For Sedation "Works totally like a light out. BUT I take prescription full dose... not OTC dose. Really hard to wake the next day. Have slept through the fire alarm. And yes I have extremely severe, hospitalised (at the time) sleep problems. Whilst it works, I hate the daytime grogginess. I still run twice a day etc, but the general ‘sleepiness’ annoys me."

Phenergan (promethazine) for Opiate Adjunct "I am approximately 65 years old. Post surgery I was prescribed Oxycodone and Phenergan, and after 18 hours speech became slurred, unable to form words or express myself accurately. Turns out my youngest daughter had a similar reaction to the same drug during appendicitis crisis. "

For Nausea/Vomiting "I only take promethazine when I'm severely nauseous to the point where I can't unclench my teeth. And let me tell you right now that this pill is magical. After half an hour the nausea is completely gone. But I've never gotten sleepy with it. I've actually had no side effects."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have HG, and I've thrown up almost every hour in the hour. I was hospitalized twice before they finally gave my Promethazine. I wasn't able to keep down the oral medication but I opted finally for the suppositories, and while it takes about 30 minutes for me to feel completely better, it's truly a life saver."

For Sedation "I started taking phenergen to assist with ongoing bad allergies (to dust mite and pollen) and found it very effective for this as well as guaranteeing me a good night sleep. I only take a 10mg dose about 1 hour before bed and no later than 8pm if I want to wake early for exercise before work. I find if I take it any later I am lethargic at 0530 and take a bit to get going. I have also used the syrup for my young boys as a rare sleep aid. Both my husband (who was prescribed it when he had an allergic reaction to penicillin) and eldest 5 yo are affected by this antihistamine/sleep aid. It makes them groggy and crabby the next day. My youngest (3yo) and I have only positive effects from it."

For Sedation "I started taking this a while back to help me sleep. It works in a funny way, doesn’t help me fall asleep, but once I’m asleep - it’s hard to wake up. I take half of a 25mg pill most times, if I take the full pill, I feel quite drowsy and extremely tired the next day. Maybe it’s cause I’m quite small though. Could quite literally sleep through the day. It surely does work though."

For Sedation "Horrible: Did its job for sedation but knocked me out for 16 hours after I had already had a full nights sleep. I ended up going to the hospital because it was such an adverse effect my neighbours couldn't wake me up properly when they came to check on me, I couldn't hear them calling me. The hospital added it to my allergy list. A few days after I started having extremely strong panic attacks, I had never had them before and put it down to Phenergan. I've read other reviews mentioning increased anxiety after taking it. It doesn't work for everybody."

For Sedation "Having suffered torn cruciate ligament this couple of months, I've found phenergan to be a good sedative. I'm a bit worried about long term use, if anyone can help. I've been taking 25mg for the last 8 weeks to aide sleep. Any information would be greatly appreciated."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I am pregnant and my doctor prescribed me promethazine for the nausea. I was a little apprehensive to take it because taking any medication while pregnant can be risky I feel. Anyway my nausea was so bad one day I decided to take one and it totally wiped me out. I was exhausted, and could have slept forever. At first I didn't want to take it again, but the next day I noticed my anxiety was calmer. I have severe PTSD and anxiety and upon finding out I was pregnant I stopped taking my meds for it (klonopin). They aren't safe, but I had been miserable since stopping. I just lived in complete panic/fear. I realized when I take just 1/4 of the promethazine tab my doc prescribed me for nausea my panic attack subsides and I can function a bit more normally. I only do this when I absolutely need it, but its a relief to me knowing that if I do panic I can at least take something to calm me down that my doctor approves of and is said to be safe for pregnant women."

Phenergan (promethazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "Woke up with dizziness and terrible nausea. After 5 hours of dry heaving, went to doctor. One injection and nausea gone almost immediately. Slept for 3 hours, then ate dry bagel, chicken soup without any problems. Next day, eating normally but feel tired and a little "under the weather"."

Phenergan (promethazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I had gall bladder surgery and got narcotics for pain afterwards. No matter what pain killer I got, they made me vomit even at half the dose. Ondansetron (Zofran) helped some but not fully. Once I got my first dose of Phenergan my nausea was completely gone. It made me very sleepy but I was very happy about. This was the best anti-nausea medication that I ever had!"

Phenergan (promethazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I have had stomach problems since I was a child, and so far no doctor has been able to figure out what the problem is. The only relief I have gotten is from Phenergan (promathezine). I call it my "miracle drug". Even when already vomiting, and nauseated, if I take 25mg, in only about 15-20 minutes I am relaxed and vomiting/nausea is gone. It does knock you out for a good bit though, but if you have been up sick for awhile, this will be a much needed rest. Promethazine, you are my hero and I love you. "

For Sedation "Being an insomniac on and off (maybe once or twice a week as needed) for as long as I can remember, I find the only thing that really helps is Promethazine. It doesn't make me feel nauseous the next day like a lot of other sleeping tablets, both OTC and script. It can take a few hours to work, so I need to take it at least a couple of hours before I want to go to sleep. There is one negative - nightmares. I haven't heard from many other people who have experienced the same thing, but let me tell you, they can be horrendous - the worst kind of terror you can imagine. The weird thing is, sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't! And the half life is 12-16hrs or something, so you can be quite fatigued the next day. Overall though, in spite of all it, it's a winner for me."

Phenergan (promethazine) for Motion Sickness "My husband and I have used dramamine in the past for motion sickness while on our fishing boat. 50 mg tablet will put us to sleep within 3 hrs after taking the pill. One time I could not drive home I was falling asleep at the wheel. I went home and could not keep my eyes open. This time during our cruise we saw a pharmacist on an island stop and she gave us Phenergan and told us to take 1 15 mins. before going on a fishing charter. The pills worked wonderfully! We were out in really rough waters on a 30 ft. fishing boat for 4 hrs. Did not even get queazy at all! We were not even tired upon our return either. As a matter of fact my husband said the pill made him hungry and he ate more. Phenergan is wonderful! Throw away the dramamine!"

Phenergan (promethazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I do not know what I would do without promethazine! It helps a lot with my nausea which is very severe every day… It does not take it all away, I know… But it does help me enough I have been using this medicine for 11 years via IV centreline"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was first given this medication after being admitted to the ER with a kidney infection, it is a literal miracle. I have an intense phobia of vomiting which gives me horrible anxiety anytime I feel nauseous (which is often with acid reflux and IBS) which makes the entire situation so much worse, but promethazine is an almost instant life saver. It did make me drowsy when I first started taking it, but that has lessened as time has gone by. It does take a while to completely work (30-60 mins depending on how amped up I am from anxiety) but as soon as I take it I know it's going to help and I am able to calm down and let it go to work. I can't imagine going back to a life where I missed out on work and events because of nausea."

For Sedation "I’ve been familiar with promethazine since I was a baby (now 27). Nowadays I work 1-3 x 12 hour overnight shifts per week and suffer terrible allergies. Before going on dymista for my hayfever I would take 10-25 mg of phenergan each night (or day depending if I’m working) with a 2mg SR melatonin and tbh, after a week of continuous use the phenergan no longer sedates me (down-regulated receptors I think?). However if I take a break from it, one 10mg will knock me out in an hour. I sleep deeply and feel groggy the next day. It also helps my anxiety and the nausea I sometimes get with melatonin. However there are side effects; headaches, fatigue, and because it relaxes the muscles in sleep, mild sleep apnoea. I sometimes wake from dreams, gagging/dry retching or gasping for air. I also suffer from VCD and find I’m more susceptible to attacks when regularly taking phenergan. I read somewhere than neuroleptic drugs can do this. So now I take it if needed."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I love promethazine. It works for me every time. I prefer to take 12.5 mg as the 25 mg make me sleep for darn near 13-15 hours every time, no matter how often I take them! I usually break my 25 in half if my Dr prescribes them instead of 12.5. Have been on this medication for 3 years and hopefully my body never builds up a tolerance to it. Works so well for my crohn's symptoms."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Promethazine is a god send to me. I'm on many other medications, which get me sick every morning, feeling nauea/vomiting, dizziness, etc. Promethazine takes all that away from me, and I love it! I really recommend this drug for people who get morning sickness, or are RX'd a strong narcotic (Oxycodone, Morphine, Methadone, etc.), it helps and takes away the bad side effects of the narcotic. It's RX'd as a opiate adjunct. Works wonders."

Phenergan (promethazine) for Sedation "I have really bad insomnia. I can not get to sleep at all. I take 50 mg of phenergan. And it takes a while to work like 4 hours then I fall asleep. I have tried other meds and they work for a short time but it is slow to work so that I lay in bed for at least 4 hours till I fall asleep, but hey least it works."

Phenergan (promethazine) for Sedation "I was prescribed this for my 6 yr old daughter to help her sleep. I've only been using it a couple of nights but it doesn't seem to be working. I am giving her the 3x5ml dose and giving her it at 6pm and up to now she is still not going to sleep before 11pm. Am I not giving her enough or not giving it enough time to work? Advice greatly appreciated! Thanks"

For Opiate Adjunct "After fracturing my clavicle in six places in a football scrum, I have suffered chronic pain. One of the fractures (where bone is no longer present) never repaired itself. I am currently on Oxycodone 20mg four times a day, Codeine 60mg four times a day and Lyrica (Pregabalin) 300mg twice a day. Was told by my Specialist to go to the chemist and get a box of Promethazine and take 25mg-50mg four times a day to see if it potentiated my analgesia. My goodness has it been a life changer. I am almost at a pain score of 0. Also, given that it is an antihistamine, it removes the itch associated with opiate use. A solid 10/10."

For Sedation "My physician of three years thought it wise to change from Ambien 10 mg to Phenergan 25 mg for no apparent reason other than he feared Ambien dependency. Well yes I have primary insomnia per a sleep study, prescribed Ambien 10 mg and it has worked well for 19 years. Never needed to increase the dose. The Phenergan/ promethazine 12.5 mg took the face off my head. Yes I slept but 20 hours later am still looking for my face, that is, I am hungover with mild cognitive impairment so as not to be able to drive. For some the side effects aren't worth the sleep. I am one of those. It's back to the Ambien 10 mg or a new doctor."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I suffer from stomach ulcers and a ton of other stomach problems, and I also have crippling anxiety and depression so I stay nauseated most of the time. It also doesn't help that I have a fear of vomiting. When my dad was still alive (he had cancer) he told me to try promethazine so when I went to the doctor I asked him about it and he told me that it would be a good medication for me. It does make me a bit drowsy but I don't mind since I have insomia anyways. This medication has made my life so much better, I don't know what I'd do without it!"

Phenergan (promethazine) for Sedation "After experiencing a severe onset of anxiety, I developed insomnia and couldn't sleep for over three weeks, remaining awake throughout the night. Additionally, I woke up with nausea and vomited for some days. I was prescribed 25mg to take before bed to help with sleep and nausea. The first time I took it, I slept for 12 hours! I felt drowsy the next morning but also refreshed and didn't wake up with nausea. The second time I took it, I slept for 8 hours and was still a little drowsy. Taking 25mg before bed definitely helps sedate me and improves my sleep throughout the night."
