For Sedation "I'm getting prescribed promethazine for insomnia, which is caused by bad social anxiety (I get the feeling someone is watching me while I'm sleeping, and generally, when I leave my house, I get really anxious. Which sometimes leads to me not leaving my house for months, other than when I have to work, etc.) I'm taking 25-50 mg half an hour before I go to bed. It really does help me with my sleep as well, which kind of lowers the anxiety that also was caused by my lack of sleep, but it doesn't completely kill the anxiety. Just a tip from me: if you want to get rid of your anxiety, stop taking stuff like benzos or so and quit doing drugs if you currently do any. Start meditating, it really can calm you down and helps you get along with yourself! I didn't believe it until I tried it! Promethazine is good for sleeping, and that's it. Last thing I want to say: it sometimes doesn't help my insomnia as well, but that really rarely, though! I've been on this medication for almost three months now!"

For Sedation "I take Phenergan to help me sleep when I am run down or needing that extra bit of sleep. It always knocks me out within an hour and I sleep like a baby! I struggle to wake up if I take a higher dosage, but I wake up feeling refreshed and like I have slept for years! I recommend it to everyone who has trouble sleeping! I have also used it for hay fever but never really saw any remarkable change in my allergy."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I have used this medication many times for nausea. It always helps quickly and completely. The only reason it does not get a perfect score is that it knocks me out! I'll be groggy for the rest of the day even with only one dose."

Promethazine for Sedation "I got these over 4-5 months. I started with 25 mg and ended up taking 2 every evening before bed. I started getting restless legs to the point where I had to wander around in my flat for hours like a zombie, and I sometimes only got a few hours of sleep. Also, I began to get a bloody nose. Every morning I had to clean my nose with tissues, and the paper was always bloody. And the weight gain. I gained 15 kilos in that time. Right before I quit taking them, I was miserable. Almost every night I had restless legs, and I didn’t get much sleep. I have been off Phenergan since the beginning of August - I lost 7.6 kilos, my nose is just fine, and I haven’t had one second with restless legs since. I’m back to having trouble falling asleep, but I definitely prefer that to all the horrible side effects."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I was diagnosed with H. pylori, and I was throwing up and nauseated every day for an entire month. Finally, I was hospitalized, and they gave me Phenergan, and God bless the person who created this drug. Even now, when I feel the slightest bit of nausea, I take it, and it knocks me out, and I wake up feeling great."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I have chronic pancreatitis and often have persistent nausea and vomiting. I have tried Zofran and a couple of other medications for this, but none are as effective as Phenergan. Whether orally or I.V., it takes away the nausea. I have a GJ tube for enteral nutrition. Vomiting can cause the tube to twist and slide out of place, so it's imperative to keep it under control. Phenergan does that for me. It also helps with the side effects from the painkillers I must take every day (oxycodone and Dilaudid). I don't know where I would be without it. Phenergan may be old school, but it works for me better than any newer medicine."

For Sedation "I am a 53-year-old male. I hurt my leg during an accident cliff jumping in the lake, causing severe leg damage. The doctor gave me promethazine for nausea, but I found that it really helps me sleep during pain episodes from the operation. I have been taking 25 milligrams before sleeping. It's like placing a warm blanket over you, reducing anxiety and coping with pain, allowing sleep."

Promethazine for Opiate Adjunct "I am on opiate pain medication for a back injury from a car accident, and the opiates make me nauseated and vomit. My pain doctor put me on 25mg of Promethazine 3 times a day and it works wonders! It will make you a little sleepy, but once you get used to it, that feeling goes away. I've tried Tigan (Trimethobenzamide) which made the nausea worse. I also tried Zofran (Ondansetron) which I hated because it tastes nasty, and that doesn't help when you are nauseated. I would HIGHLY recommend Promethazine for ANYONE who SUFFERS from nausea due to opiates or chronic nausea!"

For Sedation "Experience on promethazine 25mg: slept undisturbed for a good 10 hours, found it super difficult to wake up, had to battle with my body to open my eyes, and all I wanted to do was carry on sleeping. Kept on falling back asleep and waking up. Felt sedated and tired all day afterwards. Experience on 12.5mg (approx) splitting the pill in half: Slept for a long time, but still had negative side effects when waking up, I was very angry at my partner who tried to wake me up as I just wanted to carry on sleeping. Felt tired during the day also, but not as bad. I find that my optimal dose is about 1/3 of the tablet - it helps me sleep, and the side effects of tiredness aren’t as bad in the morning. I do still experience agitation when woken up by someone else and would rather carry on sleeping, but it isn’t as severe, and usually after 20 mins or so I’m fully awake. The sedation/tiredness feeling during the day isn’t as prominent."

For Sedation "I was prescribed promethazine for insomnia due to tinnitus. I took 25 mg doses before bed when needed. Within about 30 minutes, I felt exceptionally drowsy and in a very relaxed state. Any anxiety I was experiencing was gone. I slept solidly for about 10 hours and then would wake up feeling pretty drowsy. I also cautiously took it when I had a chest infection and an asthma flare-up. I got a great night's sleep and woke up feeling far less wheezy and with far less sputum. After six weeks of taking it nightly, it took a bit longer to make me sleepy, and I woke up after less time. Then, suddenly, I found that taking the promethazine gave me extreme bouts of sleep apnea. I repeatedly woke, choking and breathless. I immediately stopped taking the promethazine. I am now two days into withdrawal, waking up in the middle of the night, feeling sweaty and finding it hard to go back to sleep. Overall, the drug really helped me, but the apnea and the withdrawal I had were a bit unpleasant."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Every time I get sick, whichever virus I contact seems to attack my stomach. No diarrhea or anything, just constant puking. I would go to the clinic knowing what I wanted, which was promethazine, and after 3 hours and about $130, I get my promethazine prescription. My question is: Why is it a prescription drug in the first place? It's not abusive. Sure, it can make you sleepy, but so can NyQuil. My answer is the fact that it keeps clinics and a good amount of doctors in business. If people can cure themselves, what do we need to go to the doctor for? In more ways than good, our healthcare system has twice as many drawbacks as benefits for the people. Just think about it."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I love this drug. I suffer from a severe fear of vomiting, and after getting prescribed it for insomnia, I was over the moon. Not only does it help me sleep, it calms me down and stops all my anxiety nausea. :) I've been taking it a few times a week for about a year, and it's helped me out massively. Only bad point is grogginess the next day, but it's so worth it."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This med is a lifesaver. I take 25 mg when I get super nauseous, and it takes it away in 10 to 15 mins. I don't know about the making you sleepy part because it doesn't do that to me. However, it gets a 10 on the nausea factor alone."

For Nausea/Vomiting "For decades, I've dealt with nausea (with and without vomiting). At times it resembles motion sickness, occurring as a passenger in certain vehicles, but most commonly I simply experience an onset of nausea. It dates back to early childhood (now age 39). Two meds effectively treat it for me: ondansetron (Zofran) and promethazine (Phenergan). I opt for promethazine due to price and versatility. If I sense the onset of nausea, I take just 6.25 mg (thanks to bi-scored tablets) and proactively treat it. Likewise, if I'm nauseated to the point of being unable to function, I can take 12.5, 18.75, or 25 mg depending on circumstance. I have no significant side effects. It can cause drowsiness (in me) but only sedates if I lie down to sleep. I've taken 25 mg many times and gone about my day. I also find it helpful for certain allergies. It's versatile, and I love that I can tailor the dose precisely and depend on it. I've been prescribed for a decade, though only find it necessary 5-7 times a month, on average."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This medicine saved my life. I had severe nausea, couldn't keep anything down. I was at the point where I thought this pregnancy would kill me, but my doc introduced me to this medicine and it changed my life. I love it and I always keep it around."

For Sedation "I've always suffered with bad sleeping patterns and anxiety around stressful times such as exams or when I have a lot of deadlines. Taking two of these (25 mg each) knocks me out and means I don't have the bad anxiety dreams (that used to stop me from thinking straight), and now I get everything sorted the next day."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I tried this medicine a day after I vomited three times and had that nausea feeling, and the next day, I vomited once in the morning. But when I went to the medical center, they gave me the prescription for Phenergan. I fell asleep instantly for two hours and a half and woke up refreshed, and my stomach did not hurt for the rest of the day, and I didn't vomit ever since. It's the best medicine for nausea and vomiting."

Promethazine for Light Sedation "This is my magic pill. I suffer from vertigo, chronic spinal pain, sleeplessness, mild depression because of the spinal pain, and usually I get sick to my stomach with even one aspirin. I take 1/2 of one pill of this every night before bed and sleep like a baby and awake feeling rested, happy, and nausea-free. I hope the vertigo is gone too but haven't taken this long enough to know about that. I take small doses of everything because I feel the effects of any medicine very strongly. WHY hasn't a doctor offered this to me before?"

For Sedation "I suffer with depression and PTSD. My psychiatrist didn't want to prescribe Zopiclone, as he said it's addictive, but told me to try promethazine, as he said it's not addictive and I can take it every night. I found it to be very effective. I do feel quite tired in the morning, but that's a small price to pay for continuous sleep. It hasn't stopped the nightmares, but I'm getting to sleep quicker and staying asleep longer - definitely worth trying!"

Promethazine for Sedation "Phenergan is the best sedation I have seen... I find over 12.5 mg knocks me for 'six.' Most of these medications are best when used sparingly, when needed. Taking sedation every night tells me a powerful antipsychotic may be a more suitable option."

For Light Sedation "I came across this by accident, and after two tablets, all my medical ailments disappeared (anxiety, stress, and IBS-D). Off diazepam and Imodium now. Amazing, after 40 years of misery, that I can now enjoy life. Plus, no sleeping tablets now either --- result!!!"

For Sedation "I've recently tapered off Zolpidem after 28 years of use and decided to try Phenergan 25 mg as a 'substitute.' The first two nights I woke up regularly and had vivid, weird dreams. The third night it knocked me out cold. I slept like a rock, however, I felt like a zombie the next day. Although Zolpidem felt more natural and I was more refreshed the next day, I'm happy to be off sleeping tablets and will use Phenergan for a while until I can let go of that as well. I could never sleep late/in, but with Phenergan I can easily sleep past 10 am. No other side effects experienced except drowsiness, vivid dreams, and maybe muscle spasms. Great over-the-counter med for sedation."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have had severe hyperemesis throughout my entire pregnancy. I lost over 40 pounds and couldn’t even keep any water down. I tried so many different medications and combinations of medications, and nothing seemed to work. Since being on promethazine suppositories (as well as liquid Zofran and Reglan), I have been able to gain enough weight for my baby to grow, and I am able to get some sleep with it as well."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I'm going through chemo (Taxol and Carboplatin) for ovarian cancer, and Phenergan is great. I sometimes also take Zofran with it because they affect two totally different receptors, causing the nausea, and both together usually stop the ever-present nausea."
