Pantoprazole for GERD "I took this medication until my HMO dropped it from their formulary. While taking it, I felt great. I took only one a day, and if I forgot to take it or forgot to refill it before running out, I could miss a day or two without the heartburn returning. My doctor subsequently put me on Prilosec, twice a day. If I miss one, heartburn returns with a vengeance. If I miss a whole day, it takes three to five days to get the heartburn under control, again."

Pantoprazole for Duodenal Ulcer "I was recently hospitalized for 4 days with a duodenal ulcer. They ran Protonix through an IV -- I was in miserable pain. Within 2 days, no problems, and I could eat again. I'm now on 40mg 2x a day, and soon decreasing to 1. It really works, with no side effects!"

Pantoprazole for GERD "Protonix totally eliminates my throat pain, hoarseness, reflux, etc. After 6 years, my insurance decided not to cover it, so for the last few months, I've been on several other medicines, and they just don't work. My doctor is trying to convince them I need the Protonix. Wish me luck."

For GERD "I take this for GERD, but it doesn't work. I am experiencing headaches, and brain fog, and can’t eat. I have no energy. I don’t walk anymore for exercise, I simply cannot continue it. I was prescribed 0.40 mg twice daily. I just can’t do this. Is it just me that reacts this way to the medication?"

Pantoprazole for GERD "I started taking Protonix a few months ago. I’m 19 and have never had any prior health issues besides bad acid reflux. I was taking Protonix for about a week and started to notice awful headaches. By week two, I was having awful dizzy spells, and I avoided going to class because I thought I was going to pass out. I thought all of these side effects were related to when I had COVID a month prior, so I overlooked it. After taking this medicine for a month, I went to the ER twice because I felt like my heart was skipping beats, I was nauseous, couldn’t catch my breath, tingling in my hands and feet, and my dizzy spells were unbearable. The doctors summed it up to panic attacks, which I knew was wrong because I’m not an anxious person. I researched Protonix online and realized a lot of other people had the same side effects. DO NOT take this medicine!!! It made me feel like I was going crazy, and for a whole month, I couldn’t do anything because of dizzy spells!"

For GERD "Prior to taking this medicine, I had IBS, which had me vomiting daily and had years of diarrhea, gas, bloating, food restrictions, abdominal pain, and swelling. Just an overall feeling of unwellness. Food coming back up my throat when I lay down. Then, after my mom was diagnosed with GERD, my doctor prescribed me this medicine, pantoprazole, it changed my life. I woke up not sick. I felt alive again. My mind was more focused. I could do my job better. My body felt healthier. But if I miss a pill, even by an hour, my gas comes back and indigestion for a day, and then it evens back out again. Take your pills on time. I also take this at 4 pm every day, or try to."

Pantoprazole for Stomach Ulcer "After a couple of days using Protonix, I felt relief in my stomach of the full feeling I would get whenever I ate. I used to feel very bloated and uncomfortable after I ate a meal. I wasn't overeating either. I had to watch what I ate, such as spices, onions, etc. Most of those symptoms have gone away."

Pantoprazole for GERD "I was recently diagnosed with GERD. Of course, this was after a trip to the hospital thinking I was having heart problems. The doc put me on Protonix, and after about 1 week it's as if my life was back to normal. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover it anymore, so I gave it a '9' instead of a '10' rating for this alone. With many generic others costing only $5 for 60 days. Anyway, I suggest that if you do try it, give it a few days to work."

Pantoprazole for Peptic Ulcer "Hospitalized in January 2012 due to a bleeding peptic ulcer, which I didn't know I had. The GI doctor said the ulcer was due not to H. pylori but entirely to NSAIDs, specifically the nightly 325 mg aspirin (combination therapy with Plavix for RCA stent, December 2010), to which I added generous doses of Advil (600-800 mg) most days, trying to combat muscle pain from simvastatin. My current combination of Livalo 2 mg and 400 mg CoQ10 has resulted in no pain. I am supposed to continue taking Protonix as long as I am taking aspirin (now only 81 mg). There have been no visible side effects after a year and a half. I do take magnesium 2-3 times a week due to concerns about Protonix lowering my magnesium levels. I also take Caltrate for the osteoporosis it may cause. Protonix is easy to take but hard to get off of, I hear."

Pantoprazole for GERD "I have had GERD as long as I can remember. It wasn't quite so bad before pregnancy that I decided against medication. Since becoming pregnant, it was to the point of throwing up stomach acid a few times a day, and I could barely move. We tried a few other medications that just did not work. I have been on Protonix for 1 month, and I have not had a single bit of heartburn since the very first day I took it."

For GERD "I've had pretty bad acid reflux for years now, probably about 6 years, and I finally went to the doctor to get it checked out. He put me on this medicine, pantoprazole, and I thought it worked for the first couple of days. But now I have severe chest tightness and pain, and my symptoms got worse. I'll be calling them and seeing if they can put me on something else."

Pantoprazole for GERD "I have had GERD for years now. I started out taking Prilosec, but it started making me burp a lot, and it would just absolutely hurt. My doctor switched me to Protonix, and that has helped so much. I take 40 mg twice a day. I don't burp nearly as much, and food doesn't creep back up into my mouth like it did so much either. I also take Zantac at night, but it still had helped a lot even before then. It's been such a relief. I didn't get any side effects from it either. I take it 30 minutes before breakfast and 30 minutes before lunch."

For GERD "I was prescribed this medication like 4 years ago, and ever since taking it, I had complained about always feeling dizzy. I’ve even gone to the ER about this! Countless blood tests found nothing wrong. I felt hopeless and weak and almost like I couldn’t do life. There were about 7 months of NON-STOP migraines, like I couldn’t shake them or get rid of them. It wasn’t until I went to my doctor begging for more answers that she told me it was side effects of the medication. I’ve been off it a week and a half, and symptoms have subsided. Unbelievably, I mean I still have the heartburn attacks, but I got to find relief soon."

For GERD "I have been on pantoprazole prescribed by my primary doctor. About four weeks, 40 mg. The reason why my doctor put me on it was that the acid reflux was becoming worse by the day. In addition, I had an esophagram, and it confirmed that I had GERD. During this 4-week stretch, I feel worse by the day. On and off constipation, flatulence, sore throat, burning, insomnia, and constant hacking, coughing up white foamy phlegm that is syrupy. I know one thing that has caused this GERD to come on is tomatoes. I used to eat them in one fashion or another daily. My body rejects them and causes terrible heartburn. Now, I must make life changes in my diet. That’s not easy to do."

For Barrett's Esophagus "So what I read, this is supposed to be a 'short term' med. When my GERD acts up, I lose my voice and feel a constant lump in my throat. Nothing seems to help. I look on the web. I also have allergies/post nasal drip. Yes, even drinking water seems to make it worse. I eat a lot of bread, and I eat a lot of cottage cheese. Learned today that stuffed olives may even help - lol. I have had 2 scopes - both Barrett's, but the biopsy shows no cancer. Then I read this drug may cause stomach cancer. Started having problems again a few weeks ago with my throat - started back on drinking lots of water, allergy spray, and Pantoprazole only to have headaches, no energy, extreme gas, insomnia, and watery stools. After a week, I still have no voice/feeling weaker because of all the pooping. Also learned the med depletes Vitamin B?? I will not take it tonight or ever again - will go get Nexium, which I took in the past, and try to get my voice as well as my bowel habits back. BE VERY CAREFUL OF THIS MEDICATION."

Pantoprazole for Peptic Ulcer "Esophageal ulcer: I had problems off and on with horrible heartburn throughout my teen years until I ended up with an ulcer due to undiagnosed acid reflux and other problems. I was prescribed Protonix, and it was the only thing that worked. Since then, I have been able to use Tagamet (cimetidine) for everyday use, along with watching what I eat, but the Protonix is awesome."

Pantoprazole for GERD "After two years of SEVERE PAIN in my stomach and esophagus, I finally decided to go to the doctor and get help. I thought all the pain was coming from an ulcer, and after two years of pain, I found out that I did not have an ulcer (yet). The doctor prescribed me Protonix. In less than two days, all the pain and acids in my stomach stopped! I finally don't have acid reflux."

For GERD "Went on this medication due to reflux that couldn’t be fixed with over-the-counter medication. It did help with the burning sensation, but in return, I got chest pains that spread to my back and neck, constant burping, coughing, cold sweats, and a whole heap of anxiety. Heading back to my doctor tomorrow to hopefully find something else that will work."

Pantoprazole for GERD "I had tried every other medicine out there, and none of them has worked for me like Protonix does. In combination with Carafate, I feel like me again. The chest pain, burping, and burning have almost completely gone away. No side effects at all. I highly recommend this medication."

Pantoprazole for GERD "My GERD mainly affected my voice and was the source of mild chest pain. I started Protonix about a week ago, and it's been a massive help already. I feel like I can finally breathe again. I've tried OTC drugs in the past, such as omeprazole and Gaviscon, but neither helped. I'm virtually symptom-free now and have experienced no side effects."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "Pantoprazole helped the burning sensation within a few days. No side effects. Having pain still, but treatment is only halfway through. Don't be afraid to take it. I'm afraid of taking anything and have a severe anxiety disorder, but this I took with ease. It beats feeling the alternative. It does work."

For Laryngopharyngeal Reflux "Was on pantoprazole 40 mg for 6 months, as per my pulmonologist, for silent reflux. My esophagus was torched when I started taking it. Has helped wonders on healing that, but I get terrible weekly stomach pains that could last hours or overnight even. Could never know when I would get the pain or what I ate that even caused it. Yesterday I did not take the pill. Could feel the acid in my chest slightly in the night. Feel like I can breathe better and have even been able to pass gas. That medicine is rubbish. Would bloat me so bad I even felt like my bladder was hanging late in the day. I did not know it was a short-term drug. I will go back to Prilosec till I see my Dr. for the follow-up appointment."

For GERD "I was just diagnosed with GERD. Was on Nexium, and it really didn’t work well. Went to a gastro, and now I am on day 7 of pantoprazole (generic for Protonix). It worked so well for the first 5 days. Day 6 and now 7, I am having pretty mild heartburn and waking up with it instantly in the morning. My symptoms have returned. I know it takes a while to work fully, but... is this normal? Why is this happening?"

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "Took pantoprazole for 2 weeks. It helped the gastritis somewhat, but the side effects were not worth it. Bloated, gassy, constipated, and just plain miserable. Everywhere I went smelled like fart. Not like normal fart, but super mega supreme farts. My couch smelled, my bed smelled, and I even heard a couple complaints in the grocery store! My butt was constantly leaking rank farts beyond my control. At first, I had to use coffee to be able to go #2, but then I wasn't able to go at all. I even tried Miralax, which normally helps with occasional constipation, but even that didn't work, just caused fluid to get stuck in my bowel. You could press on my lower abdomen and hear squelching, but I could still barely go at all! 2 days after stopping this medication, my bowels finally released. It's been about 5 days now, and I've lost about 5 lbs from pooping. I weigh just under 130 lbs, so 5 lbs of crap is a lot on my small frame. I seriously looked prego. I'm going back to Pepcid."

For Erosive Esophagitis "First day on pantoprazole 40 mg. I had an excessively achy back, legs, and feet. I chalked it up to not working for a few days and then being back on my feet. Day 2, 3, 4 started getting sciatica-like aching in the lumbar area, hips, and behind my butt. My joints ached and muscles felt spasmy. Every place that I may have arthritis in ached horribly. Felt weak and dizzy. Every weight-bearing joint from the waist down ached like never before."
