Omeprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I took Prilosec for a year and a half. I noticed that my whole body ached. My bones hurt, if I bumped up against a door, my arm was so sensitive. I felt like I was 90 years old. My joints ached, and my face lost any glow. My skin was dull, flat, and pale. Once I got off this, all those symptoms went away. I have bad reflux, to where I couldn't swallow or yawn. I now take apple cider vinegar each morning, and I'm fine. I take a couple teaspoons with a splash of water in a small cup when I get up, and it works! Get off Prilosec, it will age you prematurely!"

Omeprazole for GERD "Prilosec has worked for me 90 percent of the time for the past eight years. My one and only complaint is: Why does it have to be packaged like it is gold? First, a large box with three smaller boxes in that, and then the pills individually sealed in foil sheets. What a pain to get all this open and just think of the amount of waste to the landfills. I called the company, and they said they do this packaging for safety reasons. Many, many more dangerous other meds are not packaged like this. Please get those pills into a bottle."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I was taking Pantoprazole and having serious side effects. Omeprazole is so much better so far. I have to take 20 mg, 2 times daily, or I get a bad headache. I have Barrett's esophagus, and it's pretty bad. I have to watch what I eat, or I get serious upper middle chest pain. I always have trouble with medication. Sending prayers to everyone who has this. It is not fun at all."

For GERD "Have been taking the prescription of this drug for a week now after having been on rabeprazole 20mg for 4 weeks with no relief. And for the most part, the omeprazole has taken away that stuck in your throat feeling. The downside is that the nausea feeling is terrible, and I get stomach pain, something that I didn’t have with the previous PPI. Anyone else having bad nausea?"

For GERD "I was just prescribed omeprazole this week. The first day I took it, I thought it was magic. Suddenly, my terrible, nightly heartburn was completely gone. Unfortunately, the side effects are numerous, immediate, and simply not worth it! It gave me a constant headache, messed up my sleep, made me feel a constant lingering nausea, and made me feel emotional emptiness, anxiety, and sluggishness. I usually take ibuprofen for headaches, and it works very well. It would not touch the headaches caused by omeprazole. Also, my normal remedies for feeling anxiety or stress did not work at all. I have a few go-to substances that usually totally wipe it out. Neither worked. So after very little sleep for three days, a constant headache, feeling like I needed to throw up, and a major increase in anxiety along with empty and hopeless feelings, I have stopped taking the omeprazole. It is back to antacids for me and some needed diet changes. This stuff is horrible!!!"

For GERD "This medication, omeprazole, was/is awful. Do not take. I’ve been taking it daily for almost three weeks because it does help with acid reflux-at first. After a few weeks of taking it, I noticed severe night sweats, stomach pain, blurred vision, dizziness, vertigo, nausea, vomiting-the list goes on. I had to be off work for two days because I was so weak/tired from this medication I couldn’t function. I didn’t feel like eating anything or drinking anything because I was afraid I would vomit it all back up. Your head feels terrible, worst migraine I’ve ever experienced, body rash... severe fatigue. I am going to stop taking it starting tomorrow and see how it goes. When I contacted my doctor, she seemed to think it was not a big deal. This pill is miserable. Do not take this pill."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus 40 years ago. I take 20 mg of omeprazole before bedtime. I can tell when I forget a dose, I get acid reflux. I have an endoscopy every 5 years, and the Barrett's esophagus has not changed. I'm now 82 years old."

For GERD "Within 12 hours of taking this medication, I got the chills, dizziness, stomach cramps, and extreme dry mouth. Within 2 hours of taking my second dose, I experienced anxiety, swelling of the tongue, throat, and glands, continued dizziness, extreme dry mouth and thirst, frequent urination, and stomach cramps."

For GERD "Awful side effects. The fatigue was off the scale, severe headaches and stomach pains. I won't take them ever again. I was on them only for 2 weeks. I stopped them, and 4 days later started to feel normal. I thought my GERD was worsening, but it wasn’t, it was these pills. I would advise anyone not to take them."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I was given these as a ‘quick-fix’ solution after burning my esophagus. As a fit and active 30-year-old, I’d never actually had heartburn in my life, but I now found myself getting it whenever I ate certain foods (which I couldn’t understand) and had the feeling of a lump in my throat. This was obviously just a side effect of the drug, but it didn’t click in my head. Eventually, after an endoscopy showed gastritis, I was switched onto omeprazole. Taking these for 2 weeks changed everything. I developed a tremor, muscle twitches where I'd literally drop my phone, jolting awake just as I'm nodding off (repeatedly all night), and feelings of anxiety/depression that I never knew existed. It's been 4 months now, and I'm finally getting there. You need to taper off these drugs, doctors won't even bother telling you, but when you stop, your body creates more acid than before-hyper-secretion-which can take weeks/months to adapt to, so a lot of people get caught in a vicious cycle."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I have had GERD and Barrett's esophagus for many years and have been taking 20 mg of omeprazole every day in the morning since the drug was approved by the FDA (early 1990s?). It has changed my life by eliminating the constant pain of severe heartburn with little to no side effects (I guess I'm lucky in that respect). My ENT doc says I will need to be on this drug for the rest of my life to ward off the potential of the Barrett's turning into esophageal cancer. Not to mention the comfort I am getting and the food choices I can make that no longer bother me and trigger heartburn."

For GERD "I’ve been on this medication for 3 weeks, and it helped a lot with my acid reflux symptoms (lump in throat feeling). However, during the second week, I started noticing my mood changing and becoming more anxious/paranoid. Then, in the third week, I had muscle aches and panic attacks. I stopped taking this 2 days ago and am still feeling dizzy, anxious, and nauseous. Anxiety/Depression sufferers, beware of this medication, as it definitely heightens them. I will now look for more natural solutions to GERD, such as a healthier diet and smaller portions. This medication is not worth the side effects, in my opinion."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I was taking this medication for 10 months, and I’m now into my third week of stopping. The first week-10 days off of it, I suffered terrible rebound and severe stomach cramps. Thankfully, through dietary changes and perseverance, I can honestly say I’ve felt the best I have in a long time. Advice to anybody prescribed this medication... try and heal your condition through dietary changes and/or natural medication. This medication interferes with a natural process, and long-term side effects have severe consequences."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "Just wanted to reach back out after leaving a review last year and after a very long recovery process after taking this drug. I had all of the negative side effects that most have mentioned here, including debilitating anxiety, panic, palpitations, pins and needles, severe aches and pains that seemed to jump from one organ to another, POTS, fatigue, food sensitivities, insomnia. Went from a healthy 37-year-old mom to a shell of her old self after just 4 doses of this awful poison. My naturopath diagnosed a limbic system impairment, which explained it all. Toxin exposure, sensitivity to drugs/supplements, chemicals, mold exposure, and a host of things can set off the limbic/nervous system to go haywire, which is exactly what this drug did to me. For those still suffering, I highly recommend a DNRS program to retrain the nervous system out of the now activated fight or flight and find yourself a good naturopath to detox. I’m all good now after this terrible pill, healing is possible! - xo"

Omeprazole for Indigestion "I have taken this medication for over two decades, and it works well. Without it, I wouldn't be able to hardly eat anything. If I run out and have to wait to get my refills, it usually takes several days before any horrible symptoms come back. I try to get my meds before that happens. It really does help in making life so much better. You can eat in a normal fashion, but sensible. I try to drink plenty of water, so my meds won't be too much of a strain on my bladder and kidneys and all my organs. I know without this medicine I couldn't even drink water without suffering the consequences. It was that bad."

Omeprazole for GERD "I've been having problems for years with my stomach and GERD. I was put on Prilosec and was told that it would possibly cause an upset stomach to begin with, but to try to work through it. I took it for around 5 months, but I could not handle it anymore. I kept having stomach cramps and an upset stomach the whole time. I couldn't keep enough fluids in me to keep myself hydrated. Months later, I was prescribed it again and tried it once again. Same thing, but worse. I had bad blood work come back saying my kidneys weren't working right, and my potassium was so low I was admitted into the hospital. Since then, my kidneys are still not okay. I've been peeing blood on and off. I am pretty sure that this medicine has messed my kidneys up. Bad stuff for me."

For Erosive Esophagitis "Sorry to read how this drug omeprazole has caused many people on here problems. My nickname for this is my wonder drug. Had reflux problems most of my adult life. Got to the stage food was getting stuck in my esophagus. It was a miserable time, ending up with me being hospitalized. Got diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis and a hiatus hernia. Scarring on my esophagus from the acid reflux caused narrowing. Was put on this omeprazole. A week into it, I was eating normally. Had a procedure to fix the narrowing. Was told I'd have to be on this drug 20 mg daily for life. Long-term, it may give side effects that I've yet to experience, but whatever they are, I'm still grateful I can now eat and drink what I enjoy again. Good luck to all."

For GERD "I am so happy to know that I’m not as crazy as I thought I was. I started this medication in hopes that it would help alleviate some stomach issues I was having, it did just that and more. As the months went on, I started getting dry mouth, and I developed erythema nodosum. I continued to take this per my doctor as I was going on vacation, and she didn’t want things to change for me. Afterwards, I started to taper off, and I began to become anxious/nervous and panicky. Once I was fully off of the medication, things got worse for me. I am only just over a month off of this medication, and I’m still having a heck of a time. I have never been on any medications, and I have never dealt with anxiety like this. I haven’t wanted to leave the house, and I’m just hoping the symptoms subside soon because I can’t stand to feel like this while trying to care for my children."

Omeprazole for GERD "I had acid reflux so bad I'd wake up choking in the middle of the night. I couldn't catch my breath and almost passed out. I'll take one a day. I can eat anything and never have problems like I used to."

For Indigestion "I was advised by my GP to take omeprazole 20 mg daily. In September 2019, my anxiety heightened to the point where I was unable to live on my own, and I developed severe abdominal pain, muscle spasms, and extreme fatigue. I recently worked out that my acid levels had decreased drastically, and I dropped from 8 stone 7 to 7 stone 5. I ended up hospitalized on several occasions, and only recently I decided to stop taking omeprazole. I’ve reintroduced more acidic foods back into my diet, I’m able to drink milk again, and my stomach and mental health have improved immensely. My advice is that if you can control your stomach acid-related problems through your diet, then please use this as your first line of defense. Omeprazole just masks the symptoms and does not address the underlying issue. It’s still very early days for me, but I hope and pray that I’m finally on the road to my recovery and I can start rebuilding my life once again."

For Hiatal Hernia "I have a para-esophageal hiatus hernia. Omeprazole has been a godsend for me. It stops the stomach area under the bottom of my rib cage from hurting; it stops GERD, it also helps with irritation in my stomach. It works better than anything I have been prescribed (or bought over the counter)."

For GERD "This medication at 20 mg was enough to relieve the symptoms of GERD, but for months, I started to suffer with symptoms I've never really experienced - anxiety, major lack of concentration, brain fog, aching on days where I had done no physical training. I have come off the medication for 2 weeks and already started feeling better, and the side effects have disappeared. I have changed my diet to combat the GERD effects, although this hasn't completely solved it, I also take a good multivitamin now. The medication was not worth the side effects."

For Hiatal Hernia "I went for an endoscopy because I have trouble swallowing. I have had this condition before and have had my esophagus stretched, no problem. This time, however, I'm told I have a hiatal hernia and reflux. Mind you, other than swallowing, I have NEVER had any symptoms of reflux. No heartburn, nothing. Dr. put me on this omeprazole 20 mg. Very first day taking it, guess what... I NOW have symptoms of reflux. Throat feels like it's closing, chest tight, heartburn, and it feels like food is backed up to my throat. Not a good feeling! Is it the drug, or am I having a great attack? I took it the next day and the same thing. Day 3, I did not take it, but STILL same symptoms. Today is day 4, symptoms are fading... I'm NOT taking this anymore... I don't see anyone else here with this issue. Need to call Dr. Monday..."

Omeprazole for GERD "I've had GERD since 1999 and, in 2016, I was being tested for all sorts of GI conditions because of the symptoms I was experiencing. My GI doc at the time told me to take Prilosec every day to control nausea and acid reflux. I took it for less than a week and had to discontinue because, every time I ate, I felt like I had a brick sitting in my stomach. It felt like the food would just sit there, undigested, and it was very painful. I've done better with other PPIs."
