Naproxen "With my first episode with gout, I went to urgent care and was given a prescription. I continued to suffer for about a week. I wondered if the drug did anything. I had my second two nights ago when I was in Taiwan, the night before my flight. I immediately popped 4 Aleve. In the morning, I took 4 more. My pain and swelling were completely relieved by the time I landed, and I've been 100% ever since with no additional medications. It was a miracle."

"I had an attack of gout yesterday. Had to crawl to the toilet. Got a relative to buy me some naprogesic, as it is called here, and 8 hours later, I am almost pain-free. It leaves everything else for dead."

"For a disabling gout flare: 500 mg, then 250 mg every 8 hrs, or if pain not cleared, then 2 x 250 mg twice or up to 3 x (i.e. 3 x doses 500 mg each) max (rarely need 3 x). Way better than colchicine, but GP reckons colchicine protects the body better than naproxen - much more research needed."

"This is really like magic for my knees, which have been swollen for days where I cannot walk and bend my legs. I went to the emergency hospital in Vancouver. Usually, I was treated by removing the fluid by aspiration, which was painful and an unhealthy treatment for gout. After waiting for a long time inside the emergency room, I was given naproxen with some water. Today, it's been only 2 days of taking the same medicine. Wow, I can walk and help now. Thank you lots."

"I've had a flare-up of gout on my big toe, which was really, really painful. For 3 days, I have taken the maximum amount of 500 mg tablets a day with no effect whatsoever. The tablets are well in date to use. I've used pills regularly for back pain for years."

"As a physician and a sufferer of gout, I can say without doubt that Naproxen works just as well as Indomethacin."

"I'm 40, and I've had about two gout attacks a year for the last 4 years. They have all been on my left big toe, although currently this one is in my left heel. When I get a flare-up, there is no stopping it. Not Indocin, naproxen, prednisone-nothing! I take Allopurinol daily. Note: I just started taking Allopurinol this year, and I felt like it was helping me. I made it to November. But here I am all over again. I'm 6ft, 245lb. I do exercise quite a bit. Have an active lifestyle. I've worked with my primary physician, podiatrist, and now I'm being referred to a rheumatologist. Hope they have some new ideas. I have Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) from work for this, but I'm on my 7th day with this, and it's not getting better. I still worry about missing work. Stressed over here!"
