For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Last September, I went to the OB-GYN for my heavy bleeding because I am tired of taking birth control and other meds. They prescribed me Provera in an attempt to prolong my 'dry time.' It seemed to work for about 2 months, and then suddenly I began having issues with even heavier bleeding, passing large clots, and shorter cycles (18-21 days). This continued until March of this year when I bled so heavily I had to be put in the hospital for an emergency D&C and had to have a blood transfusion (3 units). Now I continually have issues with hemorrhaging. The Provera made an already bad situation worse. Now it looks like I may have to pursue surgical options as a result. If you are wondering whether or not to take Provera, DON'T!!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "July 4, I get my cycle. I am on it for 9 days. At this time, I go to the doctor. She prescribes me Provera. A day or two of taking it, and the cycle is gone. A week after I finished, my cycle is back, heavier than I have ever had and has been on for 8 days. I see no signs of it leaving. I went to the doctor, all they did was prescribe me Provera again. I don't want to take it because it is to bring your period. I don't need it to be brought on. I want it to go away. How long am I going to be bleeding after taking this medicine? It is like I am peeing on myself, and it is frustrating. Please help. I have never had any issues with long heavy cycles before, so I don't know what is going on."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've had PCOS since I was a teen, very irregular periods, Dr. says I don't ovulate. High school sweetheart and I got married, and we want children. It's very difficult having PCOS. Dr. prescribed Provera to induce a period. She said it would shed the lining and would be like starting 'new.' Took 1 pill a day for 7 days. Took 3 days to start my period after the last pill. I do not recommend this pill to anyone. I've had severe bleeding for several days and large blood clots. I soak through at least 2 super plus tampons an hour. It leaks so bad through the tampon I have to also wear pads. Pads have rubbed me raw, and the heavy bleeding and constant changing of tampons have made me raw from the top of my vagina to my butthole. I'm very weak and dizzy."

For Amenorrhea "I'm 26 years old and have always had irregular periods. Recently, I found out that I have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and was prescribed Provera. I took it twice a day for 10 days and started bleeding about 3 days after they finished. I can honestly say it was the worst period I've ever had! It was very heavy, and I felt sick and dizzy. I was so emotional, and I never get any sort of PMS usually. My period also lasted for 10 days. It stopped on Sunday, and I'm bleeding again today (Thursday). Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "My cycle has been on for over 3 months, so I went to the doctor. She prescribed Provera. The first day after starting the medication, I cramped (I'm not a cramper). The cramps stopped, but the bleeding never did. About two weeks on the pill, I started bleeding really heavily and passing too many clots, then I came to research. For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had a miscarriage at 14 weeks. I bled after that for 2 weeks and then stopped bleeding for 4 weeks. I then got my first period, which started out very light, then, 5 days later, I was bleeding so heavily and passing very large clots that I ended up going to the ER. They decided to do a D and C to stop the heavy bleeding, but I bled just as heavily after the D and C. So, after several trips to the ER, they gave me Provera. After taking one pill, my bleeding became very light and stayed that way for the last 2 days. Today, however, I did a short rowing workout (the first time I've exercised in 2 weeks), and the bleeding seemed to pick up a little bit, and a pretty big clot came out (I'm not sure if it was from before when I was bleeding heavily and it just worked its way out). I was wondering if the bleeding got worse for anyone else after exercise?"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "The first time I took Provera, it worked great for 3-4 years and made me regular. I had gone to the ER for heavy bleeding and clotting. The second time I went to the ER was earlier this year (2015) for the same reason. Provera slowed it down, passed clots, and then I spotted here and there. Just recently, mid-July, I started having heavy bleeding again, and the docs couldn't give me answers as to why, but put me on Provera again. It didn't do anything this time. It slowed it down on Day 1-Day 3 on it, and then after, and especially when I finished Provera, I was bleeding very heavily. The doc said that's to be expected and have to wait it out and just wait for my ultrasound. I'm so sick of all this bleeding and even more so not getting any answers/treatment."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "This is my 3rd time taking this medication, Provera, for problem bleeding. The first time, it worked for like 4 days. After the 4th day, I couldn’t stop bleeding and had to go back to the ER. I was put on Provera again. This time, it didn’t work at all. Actually, when I took the last pill, the next day, I couldn’t stop bleeding. I had clots the size of grapefruits. I was so lightheaded I went to the ER, and I needed a blood transfusion. For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "My experience with Provera has been a very painful situation. I am 26 and was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome at the age of 22. I never had regular periods since the age of 15. I was always on some form of birth control to regulate. I was taking the Depo-Provera shot (depo shot) for about 6 months before I decided to get off due to the excessive weight gain. The Nurse Practitioner weaned me off of the shot and decided to give me the Micronor birth control pills, which did not help as well. I have been on my cycle for 2.5 months. I cannot afford insurance, the only thing I could do was go to the emergency room. I saw the ER doctor there, where she gave me the Provera 10 mg four times a day. My bleeding has gotten heavier."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I started my period in March. It's been mostly light bleeding, but on Friday it got pretty heavy. By Tuesday I was in the ER because I was just passing softball-sized balls every single time I stood up. I went to see my OB-GYN today, and he prescribed me Provera. Prior to taking it, I was still passing huge clots and just overall felt miserable. I've barely had an appetite and just felt so tired. Within two hours of taking this pill, I could feel the difference. I had more energy, I don't feel stabbing pain in my lower back from cramps, and I don't feel like a waterfall is going to come pouring out of me when I stand up. I know this is only the first day, and I still have 13 days to go on this pill, but so far it's been amazing."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am 39 years old. My whole life, I had normal periods. Some months, the cramping was awful, but they were regular, same time every month. Then, about 2 years ago, they began coming earlier every month. I was having 1, twice a month. I saw my gyno 5 months ago (July), who did an ultrasound and said it all looked normal. I was back in October, the bleeding was getting worse. He prescribed Provera 10 mg once a day to start. When I began bleeding again, he said it would stop the bleeding, so I did as instructed and bled for 10 days straight. It stopped only to return 9 days later for another 9 days, stopped for a week, then started again the 17th of this month (November). This time, it started brown in color. It is the 30th, STILL bleeding."

For Endometrial Hyperplasia, Prophylaxis "I am a 64-year-old woman who is 15 years post-menopausal. A polyp was removed from my cervix. I had an ultrasound of the uterus with a biopsy. The biopsy came back okay, and the lining of the uterus measurement was 15. Ultrasound showed probably a polyp. I had a hysteroscopy with D&C and the removal of a polyp. The gynecologist would like to do a hysterectomy. Since my test results came back as simple hyperplasia, my insurance questioned that suggestion. I was put on Provera 10 mg for the protocol of 90 days. I repeated the ultrasound and biopsy. Ten days after taking Provera, I started spotting light bleeding. A week later, I had a heavy period with large clots. My doctor prescribed Lysteda for 5 days, blood work, then back on Provera. No thank you. I am exhausted! I am struggling with my concentration, worrying about being able to change my pads before leakage, and feeling tired and weak, with headaches and chills. I won't take Provera or Lysteda. I am done with my uterus and had all this trouble. I don't want any more drugs. Hysterectomy time!"

For Amenorrhea "I have irregular periods, and I’ve been trying to get pregnant, so my OB prescribed Provera pill to take for 10 days. Well, I took mine for 9 days and got my period 2-3 days after, which was great! But now, a week later, I am bleeding lightly, pink blood, and my OB does not know why. For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was bleeding for 10 days, and it got crazy heavy. I went to the doctor, and she prescribed 30 mg/day for 7 days, and then taper down to 20 for 7 days, then 10 for 7 days. This seems really crazy! Has anyone ever heard of this dose being prescribed?"
