For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have PCOS and have done for nearly 20 years. Periods, lucky if I had one a year, then started to have irregular bleeds. Was sent for biopsy and scan results showed complex focal hyperplasia. Gyn put me on Provera, 3 daily. I am now entering my 5th week of really heavy bleeding and large clots, along with being depressed, tired, and ruling my life. Was talk of hysterectomy, but I'm petrified of such a major operation. Any help will be gladly appreciated."

For Amenorrhea "I have been taking Provera for 2 years or so. It has not let me down yet. I used to take 10 mg for 10 days, then my period came 3 days after, and it lasted 5 days. Now I have decided to take 10 mg for 5 days, and my period still comes 3 days after. My period only lasts for 4 days, though, which is great! The 2nd and 3rd day is heavy bleeding, but otherwise, it's definitely awesome!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm taking it for almost 2 weeks now and bleeding while taking it. Is the blood clot and cramping normal? The pain is killing me I don't know what to do! I was diagnosed with hyperplasia without atypia and multiple fibroids too."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have a fibroid, which causes heavy periods to the point I pass out and am severely anemic, needing blood transfusions. My periods were predictable and would last about a week. I would literally flood blood through my clothes. Tranexamic acid was good but didn’t reduce my bleeding enough, and you can only take it for a few days. I’ve been on Provera 10 mg twice a day since mid-June, and I’ve been feeling better. The downer is that I’m now bleeding and have a watery discharge constantly, needing nighttime pads 24 hours a day. However, I am no longer flooding through my clothes, and I’ve not lost consciousness since being on Provera. I’m still anemic, but I feel a bit more energetic, and I can now go out any day knowing it’s unlikely I’ll leak through my clothes. Another bad thing, though, is I’ve put on weight. I’m awaiting surgery to remove the beast of a fibroid, then I hope to stop the Provera. Without it for now, I’d be in A&E needing another blood transfusion."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "No, no, no. Will NEVER take again. I was prescribed Provera because I was bleeding for 3 months (brown, pink, sometimes heavy), and it wasn’t stopping. I was told it would stop it, then I would have a period after. I spotted through treatment (I was given 10 mg for 14 days), and on day 10, I got heavy bleeding and cramping, and I discontinued use on day 12 because it got so bad. Bleeding started on a Sunday, and now it is Friday. Thursday night, I passed out from the blood loss and busted my chin. I called, and they prescribed birth control pills for 1 month to see if that will help. Otherwise, the other side effects were horrible as well. Moody, retained fluid. 0/10."

For Endometriosis "I am 48 years old and have been on Provera on and off for a year. About a year ago, I had my period and it wouldn't stop, it was very heavy with large blood clots, so the doctor prescribed Provera to help stop the bleeding. It did two days after taking it. My Obgyn suggested that I have the Mirena IUD. I did so and have had spot bleeding, sometimes really heavy, since having it placed in. I had to have it removed a month after due to the fact that my body was rejecting it, and I started breaking out in rashes. That was on Sept 17, and I have been on Provera 10 mg once a day. It's been 7 days, and I am still bleeding heavily with huge clots. I contacted my OBGYN, and she said to give it a couple more days, and if it doesn't stop, I am going to call her back. I am so done with this. I have been bleeding non-stop since August 6th. I feel like I have no life, I'm attached to the toilet constantly and constantly having to shower because it smells so bad, and I feel so dirty. I hope Provera starts to help soon."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "This drug is horrible. I have PCOS, and I was spotting with some medium bleeding since May. When October came and my spotting didn't stop, my OBGYN suggested Provera (10 mg/twice a day), and at first, it stopped it for like a day. Then I started bleeding profusely, soaking through heavy-duty pads every hour, couldn't work, horrible cramps that left me in a fetal position, and I have even lost my appetite. I have headaches, and the bleeding is so bad that it wakes me up throughout the night, and I have blood clots galore every time I use the bathroom. It is a nightmare that I wish I will wake up from. I am going on my third straight week of this, and it's miserable. If anything, Provera has made my symptoms worse."

For Amenorrhea "Stopped taking my BC in 2019, then didn’t have a period for 6 months, so decided to get my butt to the doctors. Prescribed me Provera, took it for 10 days, period came 3 days later, had period for 5 days, but then 7 days later I’m bleeding again. Took the pills all 2020, still continued to have two periods a month. Now it’s 2021, and I’m starting the Provera again. In 2020, I stopped taking the pills in November because I felt like it wasn’t working, but also the stress levels of my 2020 didn’t help. Not sure if the Provera helped me in the end."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm 48 years old, bleeding for 10 days. My doctor put me on Provera, then my bleeding stopped for 10 days. Then after, it makes me bleed too much, nightmare. My hemoglobin and red blood hematocrit drops. My doctor put me on Hemostan to stop my bleeding. 9 days of heavy bleeding, making me anemic. My OB changed to hormonal pills. I will really drain by using this Provera."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Started Provera once a day for 10 days after bleeding and spotting from June 24 to now August 12. My period was so heavy two weeks in a row. I’ve had abnormal periods for a few years now with heavy bleeding and large clots. Last year, I had to have iron infusions due to the loss of so much blood. Now that I’m on Provera, the blood clots are intense, huge, and I’m bleeding through everything and quickly. I just want a hysterectomy and for all bleeding to stop. I’m not hopeful about this drug, and I can tell I’m going to get anemic again at this rate of blood loss."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was bleeding before taking it, experiencing blood clots. Now taking Provera, still bleeding with some clots. This has not helped me, I've spent the whole month bleeding, and I was anemic beforehand, so you can imagine how fed up and drained I am."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm 45, and after over a month and a half of vaginal bleeding, I went to the ER. It was scaring me because I'd never had a period for that long, and I'm anemic. After the most painful ultrasound I'd ever had in my life, I was told there were no 'obvious' fibroids, the lining of my uterus was thick, but that was it. Nothing was wrong. The doctor even told me I wasn't anemic at all, and my blood count was normal! He prescribed me 10 mg of Medroxy/Provera, and I had 7 pills. Took them every day, on time, and never missed a dose. While taking them, the bleeding stopped. I was so relieved, thinking my problems were over! Right after I took the last pill, I noticed a little bit of blood. Since Monday of this week (2-7-2022), I have been subjected to the single worst period I've ever had. Bleeding so heavy, I've had it dripping down my legs. I'm afraid to go to sleep and change my thick pads and tampons every hour on the hour. I'm afraid my anemia's back, and I'm exhausted. I'm at a loss now."

For Amenorrhea "I have irregular periods and was diagnosed with PCOS, so my doctor prescribed me Provera 10 mg for ten days to induce my period. Two days before my last dose, I started spotting, then, on day three, I had heavy bleeding with clots and so much pain in my lower abdomen."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I didn't have a period for 2 months, then I got it the 3rd month. I went to the ER for a heavy period and big blood clots. The doctor put me on Provera 20 mg a day for 21 days to help stop the heavy bleeding. Well, the heavy bleeding stopped, but I still had a regular period for the whole month, never stopped, and I still have my period. So I wouldn't recommend taking Provera unless you want to have your period for over a month."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I don't like such pills that can lead someone to the ER and cause a low HB count. I have been bleeding for almost a year and went to the doctor. They prescribed 10 mg of a pill to be taken for 10 days and said it would stop the bleeding. They also mentioned that after 3 to 7 days from the last pill, there might be breakthrough bleeding. During the first 3 days, I experienced spotting, but after the 3rd day, the bleeding increased along with a few clots. I reported this to the doctor, and they advised me to increase the dose to 20 mg. However, when I switched to 20 mg per day, the situation worsened, and I started bleeding with clots the size of lemons, requiring me to change pads every 5 to 6 days. The doctor then suggested taking 40 mg if the bleeding continued to increase, but they couldn't guarantee that it would reduce the bleeding. This caused me to panic, and I was unsure whether to increase the dose. I waited for the doctor and informed them about the large clots and excessive bleeding, which was causing fatigue. They requested a blood count test, and the results showed that my RBC count had dropped to 3.12 and HB to 8.5. Any further decrease would have resulted in an anemic condition."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I missed my period for about 3 months straight, so my doctor did blood tests for every hormone in my body. They all came out normal. She put me on Provera to test if it would bring back my period. It did. It started out normal, my period went from light flow to medium flow with no cramps like I'm used to. Then it got worse. On the 5th day, instead of getting lighter, it got heavier to the point of soaking through a big postnatal period pad every 30 minutes or so, and I started to get such intense cramps that even Motrin and a heating pad don't help, and I just want to sleep until the period goes away again. I'm on my 10th day, and I'm still bleeding super heavily, passing medium to large blood clots, and I am in intense pain that even standing for a minute takes a lot out of me. I just wish I never tried to fix my period. I was so much happier when it wasn't showing up. Because this is insane! The Provera did what it was meant to ... but be careful if you are prescribed this."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am 20. I was put on Provera 5 mg for 7 days for abnormal uterine bleeding. My doctor started me off with the Ovral contraceptive, and on my 2nd week, I started spotting and I carried on for 2 weeks. He put me on Provera, and I’ve been on it for 3 days now. So far, my pains got better, but my bleeding increased, but it’s not that bad. I’m still taking the contraceptives and Provera at the same time. If anything changes, I’ll update."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I just started the medication. So far, so good. I used Provera 5 mg, took it for 10 days, but my period started earlier, exactly on the 10th day. I bled heavily for 10 days. I was so scared because I was losing too much blood, but as time goes on, it stopped. So if you are using this medication for uterine bleeding, please give it some time. I rate it 10."

"I've been taking Provera twice daily at the instruction of my GP to stop my periods - I'm a trans man, and it's a source of dysphoria for me, but I've also had painful periods for years. It prevented my period for about four to five weeks, but now I've been bleeding constantly. It's considerably less painful but totally defeats the purpose of me taking it."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am a 65-year-old woman that is postmenopausal. In the last year, I have been spotting every month. I am on a waiting list for a hysteroscopy. In the meantime, I have taken Provera for 10 days, and then I started bleeding. One week later, I started bleeding. I am on my 6th day of bleeding very heavily and cramping big time. I'm to go back on Provera next month again for 10 days. Is this a normal procedure for a 65-year-old that has already been through menopause?"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Two years ago, at 48, I already had years of perimenopausal issues, but I started getting heavy periods with cramps and huge clots, lasting over 1 week. Then, I had the worst period for 2 weeks, using tampons and pads each hour. My gyno gave me Provera 10 mg, and my period stopped after 3 days. Weirdly, I had no period after for 11 months! Then, my periods came back - some light, some heavy. This went on for 8 months; then, no periods, again. At the end of 2021, my gyno was going to do an ablation on me, but a pre-biopsy showed I have hyperplasia. To reverse this, or else need a hysterectomy, my gyno put me on Provera 10 mg, again, daily, for 3 months. The first 4 weeks were great, no period. But, I slowly started to get very heavy bleeding, cramps and big clots, and I’ve had these things now for 25 days! My gyno did another biopsy 3 days ago, which I’m waiting for the results. She also had me stop the Provera for 1 week, but my period hasn’t stopped yet. A hysterectomy is sounding better every day!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been taking Provera for 7 days, and I am absolutely miserable. I was having some irregular bleeding, and this was prescribed to “help” the bleeding. I have been profusely bleeding since the day I started this medicine. I have massive clotting and cramps all day and all night. I am on my eighth pack of pads in a week. I think this medicine is experimental due to me no longer getting a response from my doctor regarding this issue. I have stopped taking it, and I am looking for a new doctor. I have been bleeding for months!!"
