"For a year or two, my daughter and I have been using the generic, non-drowsy version of this medicine. We use it to treat allergies, both seasonal and year-round. It is not always one hundred percent effective for the worst attacks, but it is very often successful, and best of all, it does not cause drowsiness. This is very important to us."

Loratadine "Alavert is the only allergy medicine, aside from Benadryl and Dimetapp, I have taken that I found works the best for me since I was a kid. I definitely choose Alavert nowadays over any other, or I end up having to take Benadryl as well. By the way, I was born with allergies and have always had severe year-round allergies to many natural and man-made things."

"I took this medication (10 mg) for my runny nose due to COVID-19. The first hour I took it, I started feeling a severe headache and a little bit of fatigue, which lasted for about 10 hours. In the beginning, I thought it was an extra symptom from COVID, since I hadn't had such a symptom until then. The next day, I woke up and there was no headache and fatigue at all and was feeling much better overall. As I was suspicious of this medication, I decided to take it again and see for myself whether I would experience the same symptoms. Again, after an hour I took it, I started feeling headache and fatigue. So, I decided not to take it again. However, the symptom of runny nose decreased."

"Within an hour after taking this, I started to have formication/paresthesia on my nose. It has been more than 12 hours, and I’m still having a crawling sensation on my nose. I couldn’t sleep well, have a dry mouth, and have been feeling anxiety and nervousness. As I’m typing this, I’m still having the annoying sensation on my nose. I am hoping it will fade away ASAP. PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE TAKING THIS. Zyrtec did not make me have all these side effects."

Loratadine "As a child, I had severe urticaria which required Phenergan injections promptly. In my twenties, I had allergy tests and the full course of the preventative for linseed, house dust, cat hair, and certain plant leaves. That worked well mostly, but Phenergan tablets were always to hand. I am now in my 80s and still have occasional urticaria if I have been gardening and hay fever from milk products during spring and summer. I have taken Loratadine (OTC) for some years now."

"Suffer from seasonal allergies. Started loratadine - the first few days were good, then I started having heart flutters, feeling very nervous and shaky. I checked all my vitals, everything was normal. I will not be using this anymore, it's not worth it. Also, ladies, it causes dryness in the lady bits."

Loratadine "Everyone in my family has allergies. We recently moved into an old house and cleaned what needed to be cleaned, and we stopped Claritin because it was no longer helping us. Allergies were situational. That being said, the one time it genuinely helped me was when I burnt my throat from vomiting and had a sore throat at the same time, and I NEEDED a dry mouth because of excess saliva from injury. I found Claritin made everyone in my family snore too, but possibly that happened before taking it. I would say it interacts with other meds that make you drowsy, even though websites say it doesn't."

"'Loratadine has an average rating of 4.9 out of 10 from a total of 80 ratings for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. 39% of reviewers reported a positive experience, while 51% reported a negative experience.' This stuff is nasty, gave me anxiety and depression, heart palpitations... AVOID!!"

"I had swollen legs and feet from what I've since discovered was a histamine reaction due to eating two foods that are high in histamine: dark chocolate and almonds. It was suggested I take Benadryl, as this helps many people with this type of reaction. I tried Benadryl first and didn't have any lessening of the swelling. The next day, I tried Claritin 24 hour, and within hours, the swelling was gone. If you have trouble with edema when having a histamine reaction, you may want to give this a try. I should note that I have no other allergy symptoms at all, only edema. Something to do with how my mast cells don't work the way they should."

Loratadine "I have taken generic occasionally for years with good results. My spouse got me Claritin by mistake and it did dry my nose and sinuses like generic, but knocked me flat with fatigue. Not going to take the rest of the package."

Loratadine "I will never buy this product again, not because of any problem with it, but because the packaging is so difficult to deal with. Opening the tightly sealed packets often breaks the tablet or even crushes it. I understand the safety concern for secure packing, but this was way overdone. The goal is not to prevent opening, but to make it clear when it has been opened."

"I'm not sure if people leaving positive reviews are serious when they say it takes a week for the product to work. This is for people with hay fever and is meant to stop their symptoms. Why on Earth would someone suffer for an entire week waiting for a product to work? That is absolutely outrageous. Luckily, there are plenty of products that work within minutes and can actually give relief! For me, this provided no relief whatsoever. Would recommend Claritin or Citrine."
