Levothyroxine "I love this brand the best. And yes, I can tell the difference between the generic brand. My short-term memory is bad. Mood, weight loss harder to get. Levoxyl works best. I'm glad my Dr. listened to me."

"I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and immediately started on Levothyroxine 50 MCG once daily. After the first pill, I became very ill with chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, confusion, trembling, etc. Couldn't reach my family doctor. I ended up in the ER, but they told me it was only the side effect of the drug and to continue to take it. I didn't! Feeling a little better after several days. It was the scariest thing that ever happened to me! I don't know what to do next. No endocrinologist in our area."

Levothyroxine "I was on Synthroid 50 mcg and generic levothyroxine 50 mcg. With both medications, I had palpitations, heat intolerance, and severe insomnia. Synthroid was worse than levothyroxine. My TSH numbers were fine, but I couldn't tolerate the insomnia. The positive thing was that I lost 30 pounds. I was switched to Tirosint 50 mcg and immediately could finally sleep. No more insomnia, no more palpitations, no more heat intolerance. I recently got my lab work back, and I have a normal TSH, but I've started getting hypothyroid-like symptoms I used to have when I was on no thyroid medication. So even though my TSH is normal and I can sleep, I am having weight gain, increased constipation, and hairline eczema. Alas, I will try another brand!"

"After three months of dedicated use, my goiter finally went away, and I could swallow freely again. I also noticed a higher metabolism, as well as a longer attention span and a better ability to focus. I did not ever see any difference in my intolerance to cold, the dryness of my skin, and barely to what I thought to be the worst Hashimoto symptom, the lethargy. I did notice if I took this medicine at night or later in the day, it made my heart race. I think this medicine affects everyone differently, and results are hindered by people having too high of expectations. For me, it was a great medicine, it didn't solve all of the problems, but as someone truly suffering from Hashimoto's, I am extremely grateful for what it has done."

Levothyroxine "I was seeing an endocrinologist who prescribed Armor thyroid. She worked with me to keep my TSH at a 1.0. She retired and I started seeing another endocrinologist. He put me on Unithroid, and I felt awful on it. I was constipated, bloated, carpal tunnel in my hands, and major brain fog. I convinced my primary care physician to prescribe Armor for me, and I feel so much better."

"Levothyroxine doesn't work with my body. It is like an independent contractor on prevailing wage. Unfortunately, health-wise, I am female, a retired, disabled vet in the VA. Women are 20% of the armed forces. This is the only hypothyroid drug the VA prescribes in all VA sources. Exceptions for medications to treat hypothyroidism are made when and where the VA treats politicians, their spouses, or their wives. Allowances are made for the politically important. The 'doctor' can get this for 'their' special patients by submission of a single-source requisition and special funding. The taxpayer gives a full healthcare ride, if requested, to the people that determine who lives and who doesn't. Males, like us females, who are hypothyroid, are treated in the same way. We could all benefit, with all medicines being available by congressional preset prices and the proper DD 214. Do I deserve a choice? Do I have to be sick? I, Judy."

Levothyroxine "This medication did help with dry skin and hair associated with Hashimoto's and perhaps did lessen my anxiety 'somewhat.' Can't be sure since I also am in menopause and use Vivelle Dot patches and Prometrium. I gained 30 lbs in about one month of starting it. My TSH is low now and Free T4 is almost optimal, but Free T3 is still too low. CONS: packed on the fat which I cannot get off, raised blood pressure, does not help with constant fatigue."

"I have been on Levo for almost a year. I feel awful. My levels are never consistent, leading the doctor to keep increasing the dose. Last time this caused severe dizzy spells that wouldn't go away. I still have bad Hashimoto's symptoms. I just had blood work done, my T3 is low, my TSH over 4. She raised the dose again even after I refused. I want to try a different medication. I am going to a different doctor in a couple of weeks. That can't come soon enough. My legs, knees, and ankles ache constantly. I'm in good shape, I exercise daily. It's so hard now that my legs hurt. I hate this medication. I've heard that the pharmaceutical companies really push this medication over other thyroid meds. This stuff is awful."

"In 2009, diagnosed subclinical hypothyroid with very small nodules! Followed blood type diet along with using fluoride-free toothpaste! By 2015, nodules were gone via ultrasound! TSH though at 11. Started Levothyroxine at 25 mcg. Making sure to take it at 9:00 pm as the thyroid peaks in the middle of the night. Also, NOT to take the medicine with food in a 4-hour window. No more coffee either as it aggravates thyroid symptoms. Doing well, making sure with this regimen my levels will not go higher or too low. August 28 is my next blood draw. I'll let you know my level."

Levothyroxine "I am 25 years old and was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s a few months ago. Taking Tirosint is the best I have felt in the 2 years of being diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I have more energy, the pill is easier to swallow (being gel), my mood has increased positively, and I can maintain weight. I will never take general levothyroxine or Synthroid again."

Levothyroxine "Tirosint gave me my life back! I was suffering for 17 years while on Synthroid. I had Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism so bad that I had to have my thyroid removed. I feel it was due to Synthroid not working. All of the poison they put in Synthroid and all other thyroid medications should be illegal! My levels were NEVER stable. I felt like I was losing my mind, and doctors would not listen to me. My new doctor put me on Tirosint because my levels were so bad that I was on my way to myxedema coma. My body was not absorbing all of the Synthroid tablets. Tirosint immediately brought me back to normal, and ALL of my crappy symptoms, stomach pain and hair loss, etc., were gone! My levels have been steady for over two years now. I honestly thought my life was going to be miserable forever! Thanks to Tirosint, I am happy again and will forever be grateful! The only issue I have is the very high cost, and now my new insurance is not wanting to approve it."

Levothyroxine "I have been on Tirosint for several years, and haven’t noticed any type of changes. I just don’t always feel great. But for those of you upset with the price, which is ridiculous. Even with insurance, Tirosint has a coupon online. Just type in Tirosint coupon. Hope this helps!! I pay $25.00 a month."

Levothyroxine "After taking Levothyroxine for 10 years, Walmart felt the need to mess with my prescription under the pretext that I wouldn’t know the difference. Without a prescription from my doctor, they changed me to Euthyrox. I suffered, for about 6 months, with several side effects similar to the ones I had when my thyroid failed originally. Thankfully, my doctor got me back on Levothyroxine, which again returned me to a high quality of life. Be on alert if Walmart makes changes under the counter without your approval."

Levothyroxine "I was started on Synthroid after being diagnosed with major depression, but I had had fainting spells before the depression. After about two years of antidepressants, I kept passing out, and my BP was 80/50 often, so low that drug store blood pressure testing stations could not get a reading. I was okay until a local lab tested me at a TSH of 68, then the next day it was 34. As a laboratory specialist, I knew that variation signified testing problems, but the doctors didn’t believe me and kept increasing the dose. Now my TSH is at the bottom end of testing, there is no lower result. My hair is falling out, my skin is terribly dry, I can’t sleep, and temperatures of 64°F still feel too hot. I am reducing my meds because I can’t stand feeling like this any longer. On the proper dose, I feel fine, but my doctor is very resistant to change, so I am doing it myself, and when my blood levels are tested again, I will see if I am correct."

Levothyroxine "I have been taking Levoxyl for the past 10 years and doing well on it. Then all of a sudden, I was having severe hyperthyroid symptoms after my dose was increased, and I was switched to Synthroid. This stuff feels like poison. It caused heaviness in my chest, felt like it was more difficult to breathe, and caused me to feel very depressed. I took it for a month and said no more. I am back on Levoxyl now, and all of those horrible symptoms went away almost immediately. I have tried several different levothyroxine brands, and it’s so difficult to find the correct one. The batches seem to be inconsistent lately as well for both Synthroid and Levoxyl. But if you’re having horrible side effects from Synthroid, please switch to a different brand. It really makes a difference."

Levothyroxine "This is the first time receiving my Levothyroxine from this particular manufacturer. Same dosage I've been on for years, but instead of blue, the pill is purple and has a strong odor that I've not noticed with the blue pills. It also has left a very metallic taste in my mouth, which doesn't subside during the day."

Levothyroxine "I have been taking thyroid medication for 36 years, and the pharmacy gave me Euthyrox, which I had never heard of. It caused dark circles, a rash, and water retention, and made my eyes feel like they were glued shut when trying to open them. I never had any of these problems with Synthroid, Levoxyl, or Alvogen brands. I am a healthy person and take care of my body. This product should be removed. I would rate it a zero if I could."

Levothyroxine "I really like Levoxyl and am bereft that it's unavailable now. It doesn't affect my weight at all. In fact, I let myself gain about 12 lbs a couple of years ago, juiced for a few days to get my eating back to normal, and then proceeded to lose all the weight and then a few more. I have absolutely no side effects. I tried Synthroid once and didn't like it. I have also been on the same dosage, 0.1 mg, all this time."

Levothyroxine "Horrible medication. As a 65-year-old with a recent diagnosis of Hashimoto's disease, I was on this drug for 2 months. The second month, things got worse. Chest pains, not sleeping, terrible muscle aches. Well, I ended up in the emergency room with chest pains, which led to a triple bypass operation! This drug should be off the market!"

"I am a 29-year-old female. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when I was 24. My entire thyroid was removed, and I have been on levothyroxine ever since (about 4 and a half years now). The medicine works great for the most part, I wouldn't be able to move or have energy for anything if I wasn't on it. I take 150 mg per day. Considering that I'm young, I started researching long-term effects. There do not seem to be any extreme, significant effects, which is great."

"I have been depressed for almost 3 years, could not get enough sleep, was no fun, slept all the time, had no interest in anything anymore, felt like I was in a cloud most of the time, had vibrations in my thyroid, have gained 40 pounds. I started to take this medicine 3 days ago, and I feel like a different person - the old me. Everyone is commenting on how different I am. My body must have been so depleted of the thyroid hormone for years, and my body was not working right. If this gets better and better, my life is going to change! I am so happy!"

Levothyroxine "I was on it for two years as I liked the idea of no fillers, etc., yet all of a sudden when I needed more, my body rejected it. I needed to go up to 50 mcg, but it felt like a real letdown. Twice I went through that and then knew my body was rejecting Tirosint. So, I went back to Synthroid, and I am fine."

"I was put on Levothyroxine about 6 months ago, then sent for further evaluation and was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. The levothyroxine has caused more inflammation. My right knee is so inflamed I wound up going for an MRI to find out why it hurt so bad. I stopped taking the levothyroxine, and my knee started feeling better within two days of stopping. I also feel less swollen overall. I don’t think this drug helps at all and in my case, just made me worse. I’m no longer taking it, it’s not worth it to be in so much pain. I’ll have to find an alternative way of dealing with my autoimmune issues."
