"I've been on and off lansoprazole for 2 years. Mine is on repeat prescription, but I find after 2 weeks I have to stop it. My heart rate goes up, upper back aches. I restart it if symptoms come back. I'm also celiac, with histamine level issues and sulfite sensitivity. Lansoprazole has high levels of sulfites, so if I eat food that's high in them, it starts to overload the body. Once it has returned to normal, I restart and adjust my diet as best I can. Please note GERD, histamine, and sulfite issues are a common issue with celiac. The medication itself works really well for GERD."

"I had been taking esomeprazole for chronic GERD treatment but had started to notice a 'tolerance' building up. I had switched from omeprazole to esomeprazole without any drama whatsoever, so I figured I could go ahead and make the change to lansoprazole the same way. Long story short ... I could not! A couple of weeks into the medication swap, I started noticing a 'fluttery' feeling in my chest, and only then did I read that irregular heartbeat is a fairly common side effect of this PPI. Let this be a lesson to everyone as it was to me ... even OTC medications have potentially significant differences that could be potentially dangerous."

"It's okay for acid reflux that (no doctor has termed it for me) has no specific cause other than long-term dietary intake of alcohol and spicy foods and the like. Not quite the same as Rennies, where it's an instant neutralization of stomach acid, but it feels like it controls it and lasts for quite a while. Side effects to report are: it feels like, and I know this will sound odd, but the acid, instead of being neutralized, almost finds its way into my muscles, not sure about the medical name for this. The other, disturbing one is erectile dysfunction, which, just my luck, I get temporarily with just about any medication I try, even if it's in the 'very rare' category for side effects. Thought it was only in my head after trying it, but no, seems like it can happen, maybe I'll have to switch to a different one."

Lansoprazole "I took the 2nd dose of Prevacid. It caused the sudden onset of extreme nausea and vomiting 2.5 hours after taking it. Maybe I should have taken it on a full stomach. All I know is that it made me horrendously ill, necessitating a visit to a local ER for hydration and Zofran."

Lansoprazole "I've had extremely bad heartburn for several years. While I don't experience reflux, the chest pain and throat/sinus pain are all-consuming. I can no longer tolerate this pain. I've been on a diet of mostly rice, applesauce, oatmeal, lean protein, and an occasional veggie. Everything, including water, gives me heartburn all day/every day. It appears I have nutcracker esophagus or esophageal spasms. Two weeks ago, I received an esophageal Botox injection, which is meant to relax the esophagus and thus reduce spasms. I've experienced no relief. I had this same procedure six months ago and enjoyed nearly three months heartburn-free! I believe it failed this time. I tried Prevacid 15 mg OTC and experienced 25% improvement. Suggestions?"

Lansoprazole "With gastroparesis, I am unable to ingest most medications, including normal heartburn tablets. Prevacid SoluTabs are a game-changer for someone in my condition. Since my insurance stopped covering this medicine, we have not been able to find any other medication that works at all, let alone as effectively as Prevacid SoluTabs, and that includes Protonix powders. I am very grateful for the conception and creation of this medication and how much of a difference it made in my life until I couldn't acquire it anymore."

"I have been using this product, lansoprazole, for years, and it works for my GERD. Shame that now my preferred pharmacy can’t seem to get it in, and it’s frustrating. One brand they keep trying to push makes me sick, instead of helping my condition, it makes it worse. Now we have to order from another manufacturer, and I am skeptical and upset that I keep having this issue for the last year or two."

"I was put on this for two weeks along with a low FODMAP diet to help with restarting my body. I had very bad heartburn and pain in my back, but since taking it on Friday after seeing my doc, it has gone. I would try home remedies before taking any drug, and I did. I guess it was stronger than I thought. The only side effect this morning is a small amount of chesty cough. Otherwise, I am fine."

Lansoprazole "My doctor gave me a sample of Prevacid for chronic indigestion, and one pill taken at bedtime gave me the hives by the next morning. Never having had the hives, I was freaked and called the doctor immediately. I was then given Prilosec and have been 96.6% trouble-free since then, switching to Prilosec OTC, which was half the price of the prescription."

"Okay, about 3 years back, I had taken Lansoloc around 5 pm when I just finished work. By 6:30 pm, I started to itch all over, broke out in hives, and my voice went soft. I was like whispering and talking, my heart was racing! Had to go to the ER. I couldn't figure out what caused the allergic reaction, as I did have something to eat just before the attack. I had taken Lansoloc several times before. Then one day again, when I took Lansoloc, I had a similar experience. Then I realized that I'm allergic to Lansoloc. Just last week, I took a capsule for GERD called Adco Roznal, and once again, I ended up in the ER. I started to wheeze, my BP went up, and itching uncontrollably, I had an anaphylaxis attack. It was so scary! Why am I allergic to these capsules when I used to be fine taking them? Now it no longer agrees with me."

"I was on this medication, lansoprazole, for over 20 years. It worked very well for many years, I did not have GERD symptoms. I am now 63 years old, and for the last few years, I have had trouble digesting food. I had to have my gallbladder removed a few years ago, and I believe this was due to the fact I was taking this medication. This stops acid production, and you need hydrochloric acid in your stomach to digest your food properly. I have read a great deal of information on this and have watched several YouTube videos from doctors on this. I started taking apple cider vinegar at about 2 Tbsp. in a small glass of water before each meal and weaned myself off the lansoprazole a little at a time. It took me 6 months to totally stop taking it. I kept using the ACV before every meal. I also started taking Betaine HCl to increase my acid level. I have to take 3 of the 648 mg capsules and the ACV before every meal. I am now going into my 4th month, and I can eat anything with no GERD."

"I have been taking Gaviscon for a few months now, and I’m experiencing really bad heartburn. Well, I say that it’s like a burning in the throat and chest. I keep wondering why the doctor gave me lansoprazole, so I started to take them. I feel okay. I only take them when needed, but I find if I don’t, my acid is more effective. I feel like it’s burning that bad I feel sick. I’m constantly having it, even if I eat certain foods or drink anything. Whatever I do, it’s there. I’m scared that means I'll get stomach cancer if I take it for a long period of time, so I’m going to speak to my GP to see if they can suggest something else. I wouldn’t advise this medication if you’re worried, as I have bad anxiety and depression, so it makes it ten times worse for me. I was told not to keep taking them as it can cause risks of stomach cancer by the doctor. But I will say I do take it at night, as I suffer more lately at night. Lansoprazole does work but just worries you why doctors give this."

"I've been taking these for a week and I'm supposed to do for 2 months and 3 weeks more, but there is no way I can do that. It has given me awful side effects and somehow made the reflux worse in just a week, and I'm not sticking around to find out how it's going to be in one more. I have to note that the plain omeprazole and esomeprazole I was taking before this gave me one to zero side effects. Do not take this med unless it's a last resort."

"I took it for a suspected stomach ulcer and for GERD. Apparently, after six months of taking it, it could have gotten rid of my ulcer anyway, so after the endoscopy, I had nothing found. So either it helped allow it to heal or was not there in the first place. For GERD, it worked very well and almost immediately. I do not remember the dosage because it has been many years since I took it, but it stopped all the terrible pain in the top of my stomach. The pain was very localized and flared up after eating peanuts and anything spicy. Since then, I have altered my diet to prevent the return of symptoms, but if I get it again, I know it will work. It should be taken with caution for the long term, apparently, as it can affect the absorption of calcium, but I am sure that supplementation would help. I was not taking it for long enough for it to be a concern for me."

"I might as well be taking a placebo, as this medicine does absolutely nothing for me. I still have heartburn and burny esophagus. Sodium bicarb in a little water does way more to help relieve these symptoms. Much cheaper and healthier (no harmful drugs and chemicals, and no side effects either)."

"I started on 30 mg of lansoprazole for 4 weeks; it worked very well, no more acid reflux and I could eat everything. Two days after coming off these pills, my condition became 10 times worse. I started choking at night because my throat was producing foam to protect itself from acid. I could not eat anything without getting severe burning at the center of my chest. I lost 2 stones in weight. I was put on 60 mg of it and ranitidine before bed and amitriptyline. It took 7 months to gradually reduce to 30 mg a day. However, I started getting foaming problems again. I have had to go back to 60 mg daily. The foaming has not gone away after 6 weeks. I just cannot see an end to this cycle. I would suggest if you ever go on these drugs, you take your time coming off them. Taking 15 mg less every month."

"In 2020, I was prescribed Prevacid Fastab 30 mg after experiencing appetite loss and mild epigastric burning. These symptoms occurred daily, usually around 2-3 hours after eating, along with daily burping episodes since 2013. I just tolerated the burping as it didn't greatly affect my life, and it varied in frequency. Antacids (Tums) helped to relieve it. I had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy, with the gastroscopy showing no issues. I was diagnosed with diverticulosis and a stricture in the bowel. I was advised to increase my fiber intake, which I did. I was prescribed Prevacid Fastab 30 mg for 8 weeks, which cured everything. I returned to normal within 36 hours. I was then told to stop taking it regularly and only use it as needed. If I have a rough spell of heartburn (without regurgitation) and burping, I still take Prevacid, although I do have some concern that it may not always work as effectively as it used to. Most days, I rely on Tums. Additionally, I raised my mattress 6 inches, which has been helpful."

Lansoprazole "This medication worked great for me for a very long time, with the only downside being that the dose had to be increased every few years. I’ll preface this by saying I am a survivor of childhood cancer, and I was first put on Prevacid during chemotherapy at age 8. I took the FasTabs because I can’t swallow pills, and I will say, by a landslide, it’s the best-tasting medication I’ve ever been prescribed. Incredibly easy to use. Zero side effects for me. Only downside was insurance wouldn’t cover the FasTab, and capsules didn’t work for me. Truly a great medicine that I was on up until three weeks ago. I took the highest dose (30 mg twice a day) for I want to say the last 5-ish years, but after I experienced a severe allergic reaction to another medication, the Prevacid suddenly stopped working. I’m currently in the process of trying to find another medication or a permanent fix for my reflux, and I miss Prevacid."

"Well, there are pros and cons. The good: 1. Very effective for stopping the reflux 2. Fine for short-term use 3. No problem with the evening dose 4. Short-term use, few side effects 5. I'm less allergic to it than omeprazole Cons (for me, your mileage may vary): 1. Stomach pain kicked in late and doesn't go away 2. Extreme sudden fatigue with mild exertion 3. Morning nausea, worse if I stop the tablets, though 4. Sweating 5. Awful dry mouth, can't drive any distance without stopping to drink. We all have different experiences with these sorts of drugs. While there are very unpleasant side effects, there are great benefits. Acid reflux is worse than taking the tablets, there is no doubt about that for me. Some of us just don't react well to PPIs, I'm at peace with it. It's not the tablet's fault."

"I was feeling sick randomly, it would come on and then go again, no real reason, patterns, or dietary issues that I could find. I lived with it for about 2 months, then it started affecting my ability to actually enjoy myself for fear of constantly feeling sick. It got worse as I started with heavy, mucus-like throat, it was strange how the symptoms changed overnight, but they did seem to. My GP got me onto these tablets, and within 6 hours, I felt absolutely incredible, all of the ill feelings I'd had just vanished away. Don't get me wrong, they return occasionally - but this drug really puts them at bay. The only complaint I have is they cause really powerful headaches for me, paracetamol doesn't seem to touch the pain either. It's a trade-off I can live with, though, to be honest."

Lansoprazole "Not only is it a wonderful pill that takes away all symptoms within 24 hours, it's also just ONE pill a day. Those that suffer from severe heartburn would understand what it's like to take just one pill over 20 chewables or so daily. Though my heartburn subsided post-pregnancy and I no longer have a daily problem, I will definitely keep this in mind for next time around."

"My daughter suffers from severe GERD and is 4 years old. Recently, our insurance has her 15 mg solutabs (2x a day) running us $680/month. A specialist told us to try the OTC Prevacid. After 2 weeks, my daughter suffered shortness of breath, bellyache, and chronic hiccups. Put her back on solutabs, symptoms gone. Tried this OTC approach twice, and sure enough, it is not effective for our daughter's GERD compared to Prevacid solutabs that cost $680. My son is now on them as well, so total we spend $1020 a month on Prevacid solutabs."

Lansoprazole "I have to give this some credit because it did wonders for preventing my reflux. But the third night I was on it, I experienced some of the worst insomnia I've ever had - and I have chronic insomnia anyway - as well as cramping in my legs and an inability to keep still. The doc recommended I discontinue use, so I did. These are supposedly rare side effects, but apparently I'm that rare case. Oh well."

"I had severe reflux. Put on this 15 years ago. I hate it. It works, but I have headaches, dizziness, gas, sometimes lightheaded. Now almost 74, I do not see me ever getting off, though I have tried repeatedly and suffered greatly each time. I wish I had never started this or at least worked early on to substitute, if possible. My late husband was on omeprazole, which I tried, but it didn't work for me."

"After 30 days, developed diarrhea after every meal. Took 6 weeks before my doc took me off. Blood tests, stool tests. Too bad because it worked better than any other medication I ever took for this issue. But so relieved after realizing I could not tolerate. Awful diarrhea."
