Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "Hycodan worked great for the cough, but I ended up with a rebound headache the next morning. It also made me itchy and have strange dreams. Even with all these side effects, it was worth it to have a good night's sleep."

For Cough "I have had asthma as an adult and been treated for it. I developed a chronic cough several years ago and went to almost every doctor and test only to hear, 'Don't know what is wrong with you.' So this syrup keeps me from coughing and dries up the mucus. I can sleep at night and do normal activities during the day. If I have a coughing spell, it causes me to sneeze and sometimes vomit nothing but fluid or phlegm. I only take 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon, and this is enough. I only take it if I am starting to cough when I lay down for bed. No worry about addiction for me as I take enough meds already. It works for me without side effects."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "I found this medication to be in a completely different class to other over-the-counter medicines. It knocked the cough out, and for the whole night, I slept like a baby without difficulty in waking up. Follow directions exactly, even though a teaspoon seems like a tiny amount, it is strong medication. You will not be disappointed with it."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "After coughing for almost a year and taking many OTC cough meds, my primary care physician gave me Hydromet, and my cough was under control. I was no longer coughing during church or work, and I was able to sleep without coughing. And there were no side effects."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "This medicine was used for a racking cough. It gave relief and allowed sleep. It is an important tool in the physician's medicine chest. Take only the exact prescribed dose. It is very strong. Go to bed."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "My poor son had a case of bronchitis and would cough until he actually threw up. Off to the doctor we went, and when I saw what the doctor gave him, I knew he would be better soon. As I had taken it when I was younger and remembered how well it worked."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "I kept this cough syrup even though it was five years old. Took it to stop an uncontrollable cough and boy, did it work! I was able to sleep soundly, better than ever. Woke up and did not feel like moving much. I would not take this if I had to go to work in the day. I only took one teaspoon and have done it for two nights."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "I was given this for the bad cough I have with the flu and a double ear infection. It definitely is the best cough suppressant I've ever taken. The side effects I didn't like were the intense itching all over and the drowsiness. It is something to definitely only take at night, but I was still drowsy the entire next day. I am not a light weight with medicine at all... but this one kicked my cough's butt. I wasn't told not to take my klonopin with it either, so my first dose I had already taken it, and the side effects were intensified. I couldn't sleep and had horrible nightmares. Definitely works... but be very careful with it."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "Twice I've had dry coughs that weren't helped by OTC syrups. In each case, it felt as though I had a bit of dust adhering to the wall of my throat. I went for several days without decent sleep because of all the coughing each night. I was miserable. In both cases, hydrocodone (once in pill form and once Hycodan syrup) cured the cough, and I was able to get a decent night's sleep. If you ever have bronchitis that keeps you up all night coughing, don't waste time being miserable. Go to a doctor."

For Cough "After fighting off a cold, I end up with terrible bronchitis. The type of cough that makes you vomit with bruised ribs, and you have to hold your head because of the pain. Walk-in clinics give me useless puffers that have zero impact on my cough, and how can you get better if you can't sleep? My family doctor will prescribe this to me, and it works immediately on half the dose. I'm very intolerant to any type of drug, so I take half the dose on a full stomach and lots of liquids. You need to administer it properly, but it works for me every time. Relief from my symptoms is like a gift from heaven. It's too bad that so many are trying to get this for the wrong reasons, the patients that really need it can't get it from a walk-in clinic or emerg."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "The Hydromet worked great for suppressing the cough, but after the second day of taking it, I am experiencing dizziness and slight hearing loss in my left ear. I thought I was experiencing vertigo (which has never been a condition I've dealt with) until I read the side effects for this medicine. I haven't taken the medicine in 2 days, and I'm still dizzy. I've walked into walls, fell back into my seat as I'm trying to get up."

For Cough "I had a terrible cough for days with no relief. Tried Tessalon Perles with some relief, but the cough persisted. We happened to have this cough med in the bathroom, and my husband suggested I take some. I was reluctant because of being prone to nausea with pain meds. I was desperate, so I took the prescribed dose. It helped almost immediately, and I didn't cough at all for hours and slept great. Plus, no nausea. It gives your body time to rest and heal. Maybe get a prescription for an anti-nausea med to go along with it if that's a problem for you. Do yourself a favor and try it. Do a test with a half dose at first."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "Worked well on my cough. Did not suppress it completely, which was a good thing since I was coughing up so much phlegm. Was able to rest on the medication. However, if I took it during the day, I found myself wanting to nod off, and if I would not let myself sleep, I would get a little dizzy."

For Cough "I usually get a persistent cough when I come down with a head cold. So, just before bed I take 5 ml (1 teaspoon) measured carefully. Fortunately, none of the stomach side effects (which seem to be more common with higher dosages). During the day I live with the cough, which I understand is somewhat necessary to clear the lungs. If I didn't take anything at all, I would never get a proper night's sleep when I needed it the most - to recover from an illness."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "I have had a chronic cough for more than five years. Ever since I started taking blood pressure medicine, which was Lisinopril. That's when it all started. Wish I had never taken it. I started coughing, and the longer I took it, the worse it got. So the doctor changed my BP meds, but I still coughed. It got so bad I would throw up. After trying about a dozen BP meds, the cough never stopped. Finally, a doctor tried Hycodan, and it worked like a charm. But you can't take it long term, so I'm also taking Gabapentin three times a day for a nerve reflex thing in my throat. Hycodan works great at night to help me sleep and not cough because Gabapentin makes my legs hurt and ache so bad. The only cough medicine I have ever taken that stops my cough. I give it a 10."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "This is the ONLY medication for cough I have ever taken that actually works. Back in the 90s, I got severe colds that left me with nagging, relentless coughs that would drag on for weeks. My doctor prescribed Hycodan for me in pill form. Within MINUTES of taking it, the cough would stop straight away, after it had been plaguing me relentlessly for days. I would only have to take it 3 times per day for about 4 days before the cold and chest 'tickle' would be gone so that the cough would not come back without the medication. Yes, it's an opioid. And now everybody is freaked out, and doctors are reluctant to prescribe it. I actually had a doctor refuse to prescribe it for me today, claiming that the 'literature doesn't support that it works.' It WORKS. It is a great cough medication."

For Cough "I only gave this med a 5 because I have mixed feelings about it. As a cough suppressant, it worked 'good' for me. Not great, but I'm able to sleep better with less coughing. The cough is better. But the side effects have been awful for me. (I'm over 70 years old, so I may react to medicines more readily). It makes me awfully drowsy and dizzy, so I won't drive. And after my morning dose today, I started feeling nauseous and vomited (I have a cast iron stomach and never vomit unless I get the stomach flu)."

For Cough "After having no luck with the prescription Virtussin, I went to the doctor and got an Rx for hydrocodone/homatropine. I was nervous about all the nausea statements, so I had a small snack before I tried it. It did not completely stop the cough, but it certainly reduced it enough to let me grab a couple of hours of sleep. The directions call for 1 teaspoon every 4 to 6 hours. Fortunately, I did not experience any nausea. When I did wake up in the middle of the night, I usually stayed up for about 30 minutes drinking ginger ale, having a snack, and trying to cough up some of the phlegm. All in all, I am pretty happy with this drug. It is also possible that the Virtussin that I originally tried was just old."

For Cough "I had been congested and coughing for five days, finally went to the doctor, and they gave me this medicine. I started taking it at 8 p.m. last night, and I have taken two doses of it now. It works immediately. My only concern is it is now 5 a.m., and I haven't been sleepy or drowsy. I have been up all night with tons of energy. This stuff is really good."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "I had this medicine from last year for my asthma attack and continuous cough from the allergy season. I took the medicine yesterday night about 9:00 p.m. Then I tried to drink soup, but I couldn't because I was so dizzy and had nausea. I went to sleep, but I couldn't. I got up this morning feeling the same way, but anyway I went to work. One hour later, I came back home after throwing up 3 times, and I am still in bed."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "This medication worked great at stopping my cough immediately. I was diagnosed with bronchitis, but I think it is now pneumonia. A strange thing happened, though. I noticed every time I took it, a few hours later I would feel like I had the flu. My skin would hurt, and I would actually get a fever, which I didn't have before."

For Cough "Stopped the cough, but really 'wired' me. Could not sleep, so hydrocodone for stopping the cough was useless for helping me to sleep-which was the purpose for the med for me. Also, mouth so dry, felt like cotton balls were in my mouth. Only took one dose of this med! Using 2 Benadryl and one Tessalon Perle helped better."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "For years, I have had a chronic cough as well as some form of arthritis, which denied me a good night of sleep. Lately, I have been taking a teaspoon of Hycodan syrup along with 2 Advil tablets before going to bed and got a restful night of sleep and woke up without pain."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "My pulmonary doctor prescribed Hydromet for severe cough from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. It has been a lifesaver. An unexpected side benefit is that the homatropine component provided me with significant relief from sinus and lung congestion, which had worsened with the lung disease. Haven't experienced any unpleasant side effects."
