Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "I was prescribed Hydromet syrup for a persistent cough while I had an upper respiratory infection. Although it seemed to take about 10 minutes to take effect, it did significantly reduce my cough. I felt only mildly sleepy for a few minutes after taking it, and I could easily use it while working. Taking it before bed, it stopped me from waking every 1/2 hour with a coughing fit. Although I have sometimes felt nauseous when taking hydrocodone (Vicodin), I did not experience any stomach upset with this syrup."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "This seems to be the only cough syrup that stops my chronic non-productive cough as it doesn't knock me out. At one time, the directions were 1-2 tsps/4 hours. I found out that 2 tsps will make me drowsy and nauseous, so I stick to 1 teaspoon."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "This medicine is very effective for a nagging cough that won't quit, but be very careful with dosage. I once took 2 teaspoons instead of my regular 1 tsp dose and felt absolutely awful - shaking, agitated, hot flashes, nervous, nauseous."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "I was taking Hydromet for pneumonia. It seemed to work quite well the first night, as I took it right before bed, and I slept very well. However, I found that while taking it during the day, I got extremely nauseous and continuously threw up until an anti-nausea prescription finally came through. I usually do fine taking pill forms of codeine, such as Vicodin, etc., but find that in taking this during the day, it causes such dizziness that you feel like you're on a horrible theme park ride. Do not recommend if you are susceptible to vomiting from being too dizzy; seems to work for others though."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "I took 2 teaspoons of this cough medicine because I have been bothered with a consistent cough due to a virus that has overtaken my family. Anyway, I fell into a twilight sleep where I could still hear the T.V. and could hear myself snore. I was having scary dreams. I couldn't urinate when I went to the bathroom. Going into the 3rd or 4th hour after taking the medicine, I woke up with nausea, dizziness, and a headache. I ended up sleeping on the bathroom floor with a pillow. That kind of reaction is not something that I want to experience again."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "This medicine worked for cough and definitely made me sleepy, but do not take more than recommended... even if you think you have a high tolerance or it hasn’t kicked in. My coughing is gone now, but I’ve been dealing with a pounding headache and feel nauseous. I learned my lesson!"

For Cough "I had a terrible cough for days with no relief. Tried Tessalon Perles with some relief, but the cough persisted. We happened to have this cough med in the bathroom, and my husband suggested I take some. I was reluctant because of being prone to nausea with pain meds. I was desperate, so I took the prescribed dose. It helped almost immediately, and I didn't cough at all for hours and slept great. Plus, no nausea. It gives your body time to rest and heal. Maybe get a prescription for an anti-nausea med to go along with it if that's a problem for you. Do yourself a favor and try it. Do a test with a half dose at first."

For Cough "I only gave this med a 5 because I have mixed feelings about it. As a cough suppressant, it worked 'good' for me. Not great, but I'm able to sleep better with less coughing. The cough is better. But the side effects have been awful for me. (I'm over 70 years old, so I may react to medicines more readily). It makes me awfully drowsy and dizzy, so I won't drive. And after my morning dose today, I started feeling nauseous and vomited (I have a cast iron stomach and never vomit unless I get the stomach flu)."

For Cough "After having no luck with the prescription Virtussin, I went to the doctor and got an Rx for hydrocodone/homatropine. I was nervous about all the nausea statements, so I had a small snack before I tried it. It did not completely stop the cough, but it certainly reduced it enough to let me grab a couple of hours of sleep. The directions call for 1 teaspoon every 4 to 6 hours. Fortunately, I did not experience any nausea. When I did wake up in the middle of the night, I usually stayed up for about 30 minutes drinking ginger ale, having a snack, and trying to cough up some of the phlegm. All in all, I am pretty happy with this drug. It is also possible that the Virtussin that I originally tried was just old."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "I had this medicine from last year for my asthma attack and continuous cough from the allergy season. I took the medicine yesterday night about 9:00 p.m. Then I tried to drink soup, but I couldn't because I was so dizzy and had nausea. I went to sleep, but I couldn't. I got up this morning feeling the same way, but anyway I went to work. One hour later, I came back home after throwing up 3 times, and I am still in bed."

For Cough "I took the recommended dosage before bed when prescribed for bronchitis to help suppress cough and allow me some rest. To my extreme disappointment and surprise, one hour later I feel blanketed in a thick, heavy fog but completely unable to sleep because I'm wide awake. For hours. I can barely lift my head off the pillow and if I do, I'm in a world of awful swirls, dizzy, and I'm trying to get my confused body to the toilet before I'm throwing up in my bed. Twenty-four hours and fifteen vomit sessions later, I'd rather have bronchitis. Never again."

For Cough "Was given this today due to week-long cough, congestion, and runny nose due to bronchitis and possible pneumonia (still awaiting X-ray results). Took 1 tsp dose at 5 pm, within 10 minutes had severe nausea and chest pain. Laid down, cold rag... symptoms disappeared suddenly within 10 minutes. Stood up, they came back. Repeated lying down/cold rag... symptoms went away. MIGHT have been because I hadn't eaten since 12:30 pm, but not sure. Only the one dose so far. Did have about 5 minutes of feeling like I was sedated, drifting/dozing off, but that went away also. Cough has virtually disappeared though. Can take Vicodin without having these side effects. Symptoms were identical to when I've had morphine without Zofran immediately following."

For Cough "It worked just OK with the first dose, after that, it didn't do much to control the cough. I also found it did nothing to help get the mucus up. I had no adverse side effects such as nausea, vomiting, or dizziness. This is with a carefully measured dose of one teaspoon. Overall, I found it to be non-effective."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "Worked well in terms of stopping my cough, but even at the lowest dose (5 ml), I got extreme nausea and vomiting and had to switch to a different hydrocodone-based syrup."

For Cough "It can cause you to be agitated, nausea, sweating profusely, and what I describe as sleep-waking. Although it helps, it does have some strange side effects that last longer than I care for."

Homatropine / hydrocodone for Cough "Was prescribed Hydromet around the time H1N1 was spreading. I had a nasty cough, brutal body aches, and fever. As soon as I took a dose, the flu symptoms reduced significantly. The cough disappeared overnight. The only problem was the intense nausea that caused vomiting. Maybe should take with food to reduce side effects. Otherwise, this syrup was a flu-buster like no other medicine."
