For Birth Control "I got this birth control in July 2012, and I bled for about 3 months straight, with light and heavy bleeding. Then, after that, I never got another period until now, it's getting near the end of the 3rd year, and I'm starting to spot lightly. I don't know if this is normal, and I can't find the answer anywhere. I would have to say that my fiancé and I love it, just not the prolonged bleeding in the beginning. I would recommend this birth control to anyone who may forget to take the pill."

For Birth Control "I have had the Implanon three times now. Two out of three were fantastic and got no periods. The other time I didn't stop bleeding, but they gave me some tablets to stop it. I gained a little weight, but nothing dramatic. Bonus is I never got pregnant. Got the last one out three months ago and went back on the pill, but it put me in so much pain, so I'm getting the fourth Implanon back in tomorrow. It works great for me, but everyone is different."

For Birth Control "I first had the implant inserted in June 2011. I absolutely loved it. I had no periods whatsoever, and I was always forgetting to take the pill. This contraception method I originally couldn't speak highly enough of. I had it taken out and replaced slightly early as I was going traveling, and it would have needed doing while I was away. Again, couldn't fault it, perfect for traveling, not having to worry about taking the pill. I am now entering my third year on my second implant, and I have been experiencing bleeding on and off, a mixture of heavy and light flow for anything from 2 days to 8 days, stopping for anything up to 2 days to 6 days before it starts again for nearly 2 months now, and it is killing me. I'm hoping it will balance out!"

For Birth Control "Pros: birth control, for me it controlled my period and after the first two months of irregular bleeding I didn't have my period for over a year (I have just had it removed). Cons: complete and utter loss of sexual desire and physiological responses to arousal. Absolutely awful. It made me feel so self-conscious about starting anything with my boyfriend because my body just wouldn't respond (vaginal dryness, never keen for sex). Sex always, always had to be entirely mental, which is difficult in the morning! And I felt like I was never passionate because physiologically my body just didn't want sex! I was never like this previously. Handy whilst traveling because I didn't have to remember the pill and we didn't always have condoms. But I got it removed the week after we got home from an 8-month trip because I want to want sex."

For Birth Control "I've had it for 1 year. I bled for 1 month straight, starting the day after it was inserted. My hormones were out of whack. I was irritable, moody! My face broke out in nasty pimples on my face, chest, and back. (I'm on prescribed acne medicines now) but overall no pregnancy. My moods balanced out, eventually. My cycle comes once a month, it's really light, but lasts 10-14 days."

For Birth Control "I had the Implanon for 9 months. It was awful. I experienced breakthrough bleeding between periods. It caused terrible mood swings and depressive episodes even though I was taking antidepressants. It got rid of my sex drive, and it has never really recovered 3 years later. I gained almost 10 kilograms. After I got it removed, my periods became very irregular. I get my period every 2 to 4 months now and have, as a result, developed PCOS. I am not feeling good as now I have fertility issues because of this. I would not recommend."

For Birth Control "I have had Implanon since March of 2010. I experienced a lot of pain in the first few weeks, as well as constant bleeding. I get my period for 3 weeks straight, it seems, and I have a week to a week and a half break. I kept telling myself that I would give it time; however, with all of this 'time', as it is now October, I am ready to relieve myself of Implanon. Yes, it is convenient that I do not have to take a pill or receive a shot; however, it is not worth the constant bleeding, and pains, and headaches. Everyone is different, but I have decided Implanon is not for me."

For Birth Control "OMG, the worst thing I have ever done in my life was use this birth control!!! I had it since March of 2015, and I've been bleeding ever since EVERY DAY!!!! Doc said it will take up to 6 to 7 months for my body to adjust, but JESUS... The mood swings I've got are insane... I cry for everything, feel sad, depressed..... I'm always hungry.... I've gained like 30 pounds with this.... My relationship with my boyfriend is going down since I get angry about everything and suddenly sad... I'm getting it removed finally this Friday.... Don't get this!!! It will make your body think you are pregnant, and you will have those symptoms every month... rate this a 1 cause I couldn't give a ZERO."

For Birth Control "I don't recommend this birth control to anyone. Ever since I got it in, it has been a non-stop emotional roller coaster, my mood swings are out of control. Also, no sex drive, no energy, and weight gain. But the worst part is I tend to have 2 or more periods in a month. Started my period, after 7 days, it stopped. Two days later, I am bleeding heavily again, I was on my period for another 9 days. One time, I heavily bled for 20 days straight. I'm getting this taken out."

For Birth Control "I just recently had my third Implanon inserted. I'm lucky, I have had really no side effects from it. With my last two, I had bleeding intermittently, not knowing when it would happen was probably the worst thing. I cannot attribute it to weight gain (although this did happen, but was soon resolved when I started at the gym!). I don't have mood swings or feel highly emotional, I don't get bad 'periods', they are usually light. There are so many bad experiences had by many women, and there usually aren't many good reviews put up. My sister got one, she was not so lucky with constant bleeding, so she got it out - I think she gave it 3 months. My opinion is give it a go if the doctor thinks it's a good idea, get it, you can always take it out again."

For Birth Control "Worst birth control ever. I would not recommend this birth control to anyone. I experienced non-stop bleeding to the point where it was affecting my sex life with my boyfriend. I was always depressed, horrible mood swings, I got severe nausea and got sick to my stomach on it. And the migraines were the worst. I thought the implant would be convenient due to the fact that I don't have to remember to take it every day. But I'm so glad it's out."

For Birth Control "I got Implanon implanted in November 2013. It is now April 2014. I LOVE this product. The only side effect I had was that I bled for almost 3 months straight. But now I am having periods less than once a month. It seems like it is going to stop altogether. The heavy bleeding to start is normal, your body has to sort out the new hormones. I had been on the pill for about 10 years. I switched because of the effectiveness of this product and I got tired of taking pills. I will get this product again when the 3 years are up."

For Birth Control "Worst birth control I have been on. I got it 1 and 1/2 yrs ago. The first 7 months was fine, then I started bleeding randomly. I bleed on average 25 days out of a month (most days straight was 22). Those 6 days I don't are mixed in the middle, mostly two days at a time, some even include spotting, which I don't refer to as bleeding anymore. I live with a tampon in! Had my hormones and thyroid checked to see if that was the culprit and had a transvaginal ultrasound, which showed I had a cyst on my left ovary. It definitely will keep you from getting pregnant due to the constant bleeding. I'm getting mine out at 10:20 tomorrow, and I can't wait (have thought about cutting it out myself). I don't want to wait 12 hours!"

For Birth Control "I got the implant inserted June 2015, so far it's good. Though I do get irregular bleeding throughout the month, I'm okay with it. The first two months on the implant, I noticed that I was breaking out more than usual, I was very tired and also had a very huge appetite and cravings for seafood. I did also begin to feel very nauseous and even have a loss of appetite sometimes. After the third month of the implant, the breakouts have gone away, and I have put on a few pounds, but more in my thigh and gluteal region. I'm okay with the weight gain because I can use extra pounds. I also notice a change in my hair, it is thicker than what it already is and also grows at a faster rate. So far, I have been fine with the implant."

For Birth Control "I've had mine since April 2015, it's now October 2015, and one month after having Implanon inserted, I have been bleeding ever since. Seven months of periods with only a two-week break from it! It's ridiculous! I travel for work, it's so freaking annoying to have to worry about what plane seats are going to look like! I had this inserted purely for the fact I was over period pain (my family has bad ovaries, so period pain is 1000 times worse). I was aware there would be spotting and occasionally a period, but jeez, seven months?? It's a really good method of birth control, you can't get pregnant. Why? Because you bleed too much, so sex is out of the question."

For Birth Control "This is absolutely rubbish. My sister passed away this year because she was on her period for about 95% of the time. She was admitted to the hospital for blood loss because of her periods. Unfortunately, she died after 7 days of admission."

For Birth Control "This birth control is a near traumatic experience. I have gained 30 lbs. I have had this implanted in my arm since 2013. On top of the weight issue, I have experienced constant bleeding, emotional ups and downs, and a firecracker temperament. I've set up appointments, but the timing has been poor considering I have just gotten out of the military, moved across the country, and moved into a new house. I did, however, manage to start using the NuvaRing, and it did, however, help a lot with maintaining the current weight, and with 1 1/2 hrs of gym time a day, was working to get down to a happier weight. Recently, I have run out of the NuvaRing, and even with so much time in the gym, it's like I gained 5 lbs in my sleep. Working on getting it removed."

For Birth Control "I got the Implanon on April 15th, and didn't bleed until the 10th of May, when I started spotting. I spotted for about a week, and then all hell broke loose (literally). I've been bleeding heavily for 2 months now. People are telling me it stops after 3 months, but I've read others saying they've had it for 7-12 months! I have always had problems with my ovaries, so generally that time of the month is killer. Going on the Implanon was purely to ease my periods; not getting pregnant is a bonus. I rate it a 9 on birth control. You can't have sex from all the bleeding, so you can't get pregnant."

For Birth Control "I had my first Implanon six years ago after my second child, and I didn't get my period for 2 years, weight gain, mood swings, and that was with the old Implanon. Then the second Implanon was as bad as the first: mood swings and weight gain, but I managed to lose lots of weight due to diet and exercise. I wasn't really aware that those side effects in the past were the result of the Implanon until I got the third Implanon inserted six months ago. I had weeks of heavy bleeding, zero libido, weight gain like crazy in such a short time-10 kg!!! (I eat a healthy diet and exercise). I developed acne on my chest, shoulders, and head, bloated, mood swings, excruciating lower back pain. I took out the Implanon 3 weeks ago and plan to try Mirena instead."

For Birth Control "Experienced bleeding and spotting for a month and a half, but totally worth it because now I have no periods. Though I do have mild PMS (sore breasts, bloating). Nothing a little exercise, chocolate pretzels, and wine can't take care of...my favorite birth control so far!"

For Birth Control "I have had this in for just over 3 months. The insertion was quick and painless, and the bruising afterwards was a little uncomfortable, but generally fine, and went away completely after 2 weeks. For the first 2.5 months, I had constant irregular bleeding, not heavy, but it was inconvenient as it was quite dark in color and pretty unpredictable. No cramps, which was good. Now, I'm delighted as I haven't had any bleeding at all, and it's totally settled down. Mood seems normal, and in terms of weight gain, I may have gained a couple of pounds, but it all seems to have gone to my breasts. They've gone up a whole cup size, haha! Really pleased with this birth control now that bleeding has stopped."

For Birth Control "Positives: Don't need to remember, doesn't hurt my arm, haven't gotten pregnant. Negatives: I have been bleeding very heavily every day for 4 months straight. Overall, because of the bleeding, I have not had a pleasant experience and hope to get it removed ASAP. Hopefully, an IUD will be better."

For Birth Control "My first was fine, no problems at all. My second implant, well, day-to-day headaches, feeling low, and put on 2 stone in 9 months. No energy, bleeding every 2 weeks was not what I wanted. I'd rather have my tubes tied. Please be aware, not all implants are the same. You may have a good 3 years, but the next one could be horrible."

For Birth Control "The implant is rubbish. I am only 16, so I understand that my hormones are crazy already. However, though I was told about irregular bleeding, I was not warned about the mood swings. I've felt terrible for the entire time I've had the implant. The insertion was pain-free, a little odd, but it was fine. I'm nervous to get it out, but I'm desperate. In the past month, I've been foul to my boyfriend and have taken up arguing as a new hobby. I barely speak to my family and am feeling so down and upset; I'm an emotional wreck. Anything sets me off crying and makes me so angry, then I get really low. It may work for some people, but for me, it's terrible. The bleeding is also frustrating because it's on and off, so very unpredictable. Wouldn't recommend it!!!!"

For Birth Control "I have been using Implanon birth control for 6 years and have had the sudden realization that my bar was the cause of the endless medical visits, the chronic pain, the heavy bleeding that leaves me in tears, the now formed diverticulosis in my bowels, and the mood swings that have now put me in major depression and anxiety. This bar has literally taken my will to live, I’m chronically fatigued, disconnected from the world. The extreme mental symptoms are only recent, yet have been the most intense symptoms I’ve ever felt. I've developed psychosis, derealization, OCD, and have been set on dark thoughts. I've never been one to be upset, angry, or fatigued even on bad days, yet now I need a psychologist and have multiple techniques just to get through the day. Yes, every woman is different, but over time the effects will settle in after every new bar you get in. Remember, every bar is also different, and it could be the one to make you regret ever getting it."
