"After reading the comments, I found it interesting that everyone has the same complaint, and so do I. The new bottle is a joke! I too have experienced it taking a while to come out, and when it does, it isn't a drop. You have to squeeze hard to get anything to come out! I already have used one bottle, which was shy of a month's supply. I find, for the money, this unacceptable. I have used various eye drop dispensers in my life, but this is ridiculous! Either go back to the vials or find a better bottle."

"I have to have Restasis. Been using this medicine for years. Recently used the multidose bottle. It does not work properly. I cannot believe this product is allowed on the market. How can Allergan do this and get away with it?"

"I have been using Restasis for 2 years, the medicine is very effective. In January 2019, I started using the multi-dose bottle. The bottle is terrible, very hard to squeeze and an unpredictable amount of medicine comes out after so much force applied! That is a waste of very expensive medicine! Ten days through the month, then the bottle stopped dispensing the medicine, even with extreme pressure applied. I took it to the pharmacy for replacement, they tried hard to dispense the medicine, and that did not work! They said that they will contact the company to replace it. After 1 week, they said the company will not replace it, and after so much squeezing, it works now!!!! Very disappointed. Will never renew this prescription for multi-dose!!!!!"

"My husband is 42 years old and has perfect (20/20) vision. He began experiencing eye trouble about two years ago. It began with a few floaters. He says he still has these floaters as well as a feeling as if there are 'shadows' being cast over his eyes/eyelids. He also complains that they burn and have a 'sand' or 'grit' feeling in them. He has been to several eye doctors, all of which have either written him off completely or diagnosed him with having severe dry eye. He tried Restasis, and they have since become worse. No relief at all. He uses the non-preservative eye drops throughout the day and others occasionally. I see quite a few people have said the same thing, the Restasis just doesn't work. The discomfort has worsened."

"The new bottles of Restasis are a disaster. I agree with the other critics that it doesn’t work. I’m beginning to get long-term pain in my thumb from trying to make it work correctly. This dosage method and the new higher price are shameful. I think I should get in touch with the Food and Drug Administration about this."

"I have never been as frustrated trying to take medication as I have been with the Restasis Multidose bottle. What an incredibly poor design. Initially, the bottle works fine, but after a few uses, it takes so long to disperse a drop that my hand cramps. So, I change hands, and the drop comes out and falls on my face, and I have to start the process again. Because the medication is so expensive, and the only medication that effectively treats dry eye, the only way to afford it is by using the company's promotional card that gives you a big discount on the Multidose bottles. If I didn't need this medication, I would never purchase anything again from Allergan."

"Copay just went up to $50 with no explanation. I can't keep using it for that much. The multidose vial has not been available at our Walgreens for almost a year, so the discount card is useless since it says 'only for multidose vial.' Scam?"

"I have been using Restasis single-use vials for years, and they have definitely helped my post-LASIK dry eyes-eye doc confirms corneas healthier, no dry patches. I was using the single-use vials, using each one twice as everyone does, with no problems. I decided I'd try the multidose vials. I'd make the same comments as others-they are hard to dispense, dispense more than you need, and will not last a month, let alone 45 days, which makes them more than twice as expensive as the vials. We will see if Allergan keeps its promise to keep making the vials, as they will obviously increase profits with the multi-use bottles."

"I haven’t been using Restasis long enough to know if it’s going to work for me, but I’m having a rough time with the applicator. I’m a veteran eye drop user, having used glaucoma medication for twenty years, and never had a problem. It’s really hard to get a drop of Restasis to emerge, and like others, I lose a lot of the medication in the process. Wish they would change applicators!"

"Love Restasis in the single dose vials! Works great for my dry eye with a pterygium (benign growth of tissue on the surface of the eye). I HATE, HATE, HATE the new multidose bottle. One required tools to use, the next gushes liquid all over at the slightest touch. Please go back to single use!!!!"

"I was prescribed Restasis along with the steroid drop by my eye doctor for severe dry eye. This medication was really rough on my eyes. It did not burn the inside of my eyes per se, but did burn around the eyelids, leaving a dark mark as if my eye is charred, swelling, redness, excessive watering, and a high mucus buildup. It still looks as if I have a black eye on my right eye. It had no benefit whatsoever, and the doctor stopped it after about 3 weeks of treatment because of the bad side effects. Just started Xiidra today. The reviews on its page are just as bad as the reviews on this page for Restasis. I'm not feeling very hopeful."

"I have my first bottle of multi-dose Restasis. The design of the bottle is awful. The drops don't come out one at a time. Usually, I get two. Also, the bottle is too soft, so you have to squeeze it so much to get the Restasis out. Give me the vials any day. I hope the bottle can be redesigned soon, there is a lot of waste of prescription, and it is very costly. Very unhappy."

"Medication is ridiculously expensive. Single vials are not suitable for senior citizens with arthritic hands. Have been using for two months. Cannot tell you how much medication has been lost. Still need to use TheraTears. After this medication is finished, will not renew."

"The worst dispensing mechanism ever! At $500 for a tiny container, every drop counts. Instead of a well-designed container that is able to allow drops to enter directly into the eye, this container has a flat end. At least 2-3 drops are lost during each administration of this product."

"Like other people on these comments, the medicine contained within the packaging works great. The packaging is a marketing nightmare. First of all, I followed the directions precisely, spending a lot of money for these eye drops, I don't like wasting them. It takes too long for the drops to come out, your eye dries out worse while you're waiting for the drop to come out. Then, once the drop comes out, multiple drops come out, drops all over your face, wasting the drops and wasting my money. The clear cap does not stay on the bottle, there's no way to connect it to the bottle. They warned against infection, but there's no way to keep a cap on the bottle. If the bottle accidentally drops, tips over, or you try to pack it in your purse or luggage to go anywhere, the bottle top does not stay on. I'm calling my doctor and getting the single dose. I've never seen a container this poorly made."

"Like the others have stated, I too have used Restasis for years in the single-dose vials. Never had an issue, the product works great. I liked the idea of trying the multidose as less packaging, etc. The new bottle is horrible! I have had issues with it dispensing two drops at a time or not at all. Hard to keep your eyelid open that long when you have dry eyes! Called Restasis to complain, was on hold for 30 minutes. While on hold, came across this site. Definitely a faulty packaging problem. Hope they are able to get it fixed. Meanwhile, I will try to get my insurance to pay for the vials as these are going back. Finally."

"The new multi-dose bottles are horrid! My dry eyes due to Sjögren's was under control finally after using the vials for a few years! I am now back to the painful dry eyes, which have also exacerbated my macular degeneration! I am angry about this change that is advancing the loss of my eyesight! To my knowledge, there is no way to have the doctor increase the prescription. If anyone else has any experience like this, please let me know."

"The Restasis multi-dose bottles are impossible! What does it take to make Allergan construct a bottle that works as they claim? Not only is the bottle defective, but the product is price prohibitive for most seniors (assume they make up most of the consumers), and the so-called 'month' supply was 23 days for my first month. I’m just halfway through my second bottle. It is causing me great anxiety that is only increasing after each use... or should I say attempt!"

"In case anyone is wondering, the retail price of a three-month prescription of the multi-use bottles is $1,800.99. With insurance and the Allergan coupon, I wound up paying $152.01 out of pocket. Does the medicine work? I'm not sure because I haven't been using it long enough. I can tell you (as others have) that the bottle is a joke. I think it was purposefully designed to waste the product. It is impossible to get one drop out at a time, which means you have dollars' worth of product running down your cheek. I'm sure folks at Allergan are laughing all the way to the bank. Search YouTube for Restasis and watch the old videos that tout how their product comes in one-use vials because the product should be fresh every time you use it. Now they changed their story to say the single-use vials are wasting plastic. I'm going to ask my doctor to prescribe the single-use vials (if they still make them)."

"I just wanted to add my criticism of the multidose bottles! Ridiculous! My first bottle ($500+) lasted only 10 days. I thought I must be doing something wrong, so I tried again and managed to get a whopping 14 days' worth of expensive drops out of that bottle. I used the single-use vials before, and Restasis works well for me, but it's ridiculously expensive, especially when you get 10 days' worth of medicine out of the bottle."

"The drops work well for me, and I've been using them for a year. But this new multidose vial is horrible, and with my new insurance, it costs me $400/month out of pocket, after a 'big' savings coupon from Restasis. And the one-month vial lasted me only 16 days! I plan to call the company and tell them they owe me 1.5 months of medication since it's lasting half as long as they promise. Like everyone else has said, the vial is too hard to squeeze, and at first, too much comes out, and then you can't get a drop out. Just horrible - and at $1900 (before insurance) for what is supposed to be three months, but what is only 1.5 months, completely unacceptable. I suggest everyone here inundate the company with complaints."

"Don’t buy the multi-dose bottles. Major design flaws. You will never get a full 30 days out of it. I too called the company to complain about the design and how difficult it is to squeeze out this medication. They did nothing except take a lot number. I told them not to ever discontinue the little vials. They are easy, and you will get your money’s worth out of them. I hate their multi-dose ridiculous bottles. Dump them. This drug is way too expensive for their new bottles to give you next to nothing out of them!!"

"Almost impossible to squeeze out the multi-dose! Same problem as everyone else. I contacted Restasis, and they said they would check into this matter and get back to me, that was 2 months ago! Get the vials, don’t use the multi-dose-waste of money! Eye doctors should be aware of this awful multi-dose!"

"I’ve been using multi-dose for three months. The waste is horrible from this bottle (probably making more money for them). The cost is laughable! And why are they getting away with it! The USA needs to investigate this outrageous price! And then I have to use wetting drops as well. When I’m done with these last three months, I’m done, period. I can afford this, by the way, but I’m tired of people being used!"

"I had spent much of my time outdoors in the windy and dry plains of Co. My eyes stayed dry and painful. Eyedrops gave relief, but symptoms would return, so my doctor prescribed Restasis. It had the same results. I realized that even though I was no longer in a harsh environment, my eyes had become conditioned and addicted to Eyedrops and Restasis! I learned that it is a very common addiction, including the body's craving and withdrawals from the substance. Restasis is nothing but an unnecessary addictive drug, and the drug co. knows it. It should only be used while you have inflammation, just like any other anti-inflammatory med. Overuse of anti-inflammatories is like overuse of antibiotics. We know what happens when we do that. Effectiveness decreases."
