For Acne "I have been getting these painful boils under my arm since I was 15-16 years old. Now I'm 21. Like a month after I had my baby, my face broke out really, really bad. Cephalexin (Keflex) cleared it right up. I don't get boils anymore."

For Kidney Infections "This is a medication that I had a bad time with and didn't want to take again until I was told to take a probiotic with it. I had taken Bactrim for 6 days and still was sick, if not worse off than before the Bactrim. I received 3 bags of Rocephin in the hospital and every day was given a probiotic. I came home with Keflex and no side effects with a probiotic. I can tell with another week as prescribed that how I feel now is how it would have felt if I caught this sooner than I did. God bless the nurse who told me this. No yeast infection. Minimal nausea. I can still eat. The pain is finally getting better. Yes there can be nightmares which is odd. However, with a probiotic I rate this as effective as Cipro, which is great because that one has a black box warning."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Been on Keflex for a week now for folliculitis, 2 pills (500 mg each) for a week (finished the whole bottle), and my folliculitis is still the same. No real side effects for me. I’ve had folliculitis for a month now, and nothing seems to help."

For Acne "After taking doxycycline for a while, my body became resistant to it, so my dermatologist switched me to Keflex for acne. I think I had at least five bowel movements the first day. Eventually, my digestive system became somewhat regular, but then I started getting headaches on a regular basis. It cleared up my acne somewhat, but it was definitely not worth all the side effects."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I went to the ER, they said I had a UTI, so they gave me Keflex 500 mg 4 times a day for a week. I despise ANY medication because of the side effects, but I didn’t want a kidney infection as that’s way worse, so I took it. I had nausea and some mild diarrhea about an hour in, normal, right? So, a few days in, I felt like I was hit by a truck. I woke up fatigued, my anxiety was so bad, and I developed an achy back that lasted a week even after I was done taking it! I still have some mild diarrhea every day, and it’s been a week since I’ve finished the medicine. I have no clue how I pulled through and took all of it. It did indeed clear up my infection, but I still feel sick. I know it’s a turn-off reading this, and it makes you not want to take the medicine, but you HAVE TO unless you want a kidney infection, which is way worse, and you’ll be put on even more antibiotics if that happens. Just pull on through, but if you genuinely don’t feel good when taking it, talk to your doctor."

For Bacterial Infection "Hubby has a bad tooth, recently started hurting him extremely bad. Got hold of a dentist to get the tooth out. He prescribed Keflex 250 mg, for the first 3-4 doses he was to take 2 x 3 doses then 1 cap x 3/day until finished. Within 1 dose, his tooth pain went away, however, on the 2nd to 3rd dose, the nausea, vomiting, horrible stomach pain that he describes as a nasty pain which he has to make himself puke gives him short-term relief. So if he is able to tolerate the rest of the duration of the script, this will be added to his list of meds he can't take."

For Bacterial Infection "I somehow got bit by a spider on my upper thigh area a year ago. No idea what kind of spider it was except I had a really bad reaction to it, which concerned me because most times things like that don't affect me much. I ended up going to the hospital and was prescribed Keflex 500 mg 4 times/day for 10 days. I noticed improvements within a few days, and it cleared up beautifully. I had no side effects whatsoever. Today I had to go see a doctor again about another bite with similar reactions. He also prescribed Keflex 500 for the same dosage and time period. I'm hoping for the same results as last time, but thinking of checking into some probiotics due to the strength of the prescription."

For Bladder Infection "I woke up on Saturday around 3 am with a painful UTI. I was lucky to have Keflex 500 in my apartment and took one. I was peeing every 5-10 minutes with burning. I took one every six hours, and after my third dose, I started to feel better. The burning was 75% gone. I woke up on Sunday after my fourth dose without any burning, and the urgency to pee was gone. I haven't had any side effects."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I'm shocked that these people are often angry with the healthcare provider for giving this drug. Statistically, (look it up in controlled trials, if you believe in double-blind studies and science and stuff like that) it is a very safe drug. Unless you told them you were allergic, this was most likely a rational choice and you are the"

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed Keflex, and within 5 hours of taking the first dose, I developed an intense case of hives covering my upper chest and arms from elbow to elbow. The pain was intense. They took me off the Keflex, and I got better, however, I still have issues with hives from even small scratches."

For Bladder Infection "I had cystitis and was put on Macrobid for 5 days, only to find out it didn’t do a thing for the infection. My Dr. gave me an injection of Rocephin in the office and suggested Keflex for 7 days, three times a day (500 mg). The Rocephin gave me a stomach ache and diarrhea, then I took Keflex, and it made me queasy the rest of the day. The second pill I was fine and have remained side effect-free since then. I finish my course tomorrow but still feel the cramping and mild pain from a UTI, so I’m not sure this antibiotic worked either. We’ll see!"

For Bladder Infection "I took Keflex once and was fine, and then my UTI returned a month later. Doctor put me back on it, and I had the worst reaction. Vomiting, joint pain, headaches - it was awful! I won't take it again, I'll stick with Cipro or Bactrim."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was taking Bactrim for 2 days with no improvement before being prescribed Keflex QID for 7 days to take with Bactrim for an infected cut on my wrist from punching glass. As soon as I began Keflex, I started noticing improvement. It's hard to say whether the improvement or my side effects were from Keflex or Bactrim, so take this with a grain of salt. I had tachycardia, chills, nausea, indigestion, gas pain that felt like chest pain, itching on arms/legs, petechiae on my upper arms, frequent urination, and eventual yeast infection for which I had to take Diflucan. I had some symptoms together, and some separate. Most of my side effects came at night, though, so it could've been some kind of reaction between the two? The side effects definitely hit me harder in the beginning, but by my 5th day of Keflex, almost all side effects had subsided. I suggest taking with probiotics that can survive stomach acid and easily digestible food and drinking a lot of water."

For Bacterial Infection "First, my dentist prescribed amoxicillin for my tooth abscess, but when I went in for the extraction, I still had it, so he prescribed this. I lost a day's worth, they fell out of my pocket. But I took the rest, and I still feel it slightly. It had no side effects for me."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "20 yo son took Keflex generic at 7 am Friday for a gross shin wound. After 3 doses, by Saturday afternoon, he had a fever of 102.6. The hospital deemed him COVID positive via a rapid test, though son only had a fever as symptoms of anything. The staff seemed excited to tell each of me, hubby, and my parents without son’s permission. Hubby and I each tested negative on non-rapid tests this morning. We will continue Keflex until the dosage is complete, but I would not take this med or allow my son to take it again. My mother is allergic to Keflex. It makes her itch and choke. I’m very certain the Keflex is causing my son’s fever, but COVID is a payday, so we just have to deal with it. He is allergic to amoxicillin."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "This medication gave me really bad traveling gas with cold sweats and made me very nauseous on the very first pill! I might ask my doctor to replace this medication with something else. I find it very strong, especially for a mild skin infection due to a spider bite!"
