For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am on day 4, feel constantly tired. Have to sleep sitting as some weird acid runs into my mouth and tastes horrible. Stomach still bloated and eating makes me sick but not eating also makes me sick. Headaches on and off. Chest pains. Constant metallic taste and loss of taste buds. Had one really crazy bout of the runs. Overall I feel worse in a different way than before I started antibiotics."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am on day 7 of a 7-day course. I felt a little lightheaded on day 1 and have experienced the metallic taste that everyone is talking about, but increased appetite when most people report the opposite. I've been very bloated too, but I can't distinguish if it's just the illness or these meds. I have not experienced any other side effects. I have eaten plain yogurt on most days and taken a good quality probiotic. I am worried if the treatment is even working because I don't feel any different or better, and I only have just 1 evening dose to go. Does it take a while to see improvements? I have not had the best diet in the last 7 days either, probably because I felt a little depressed and ate my feelings. Could a poor diet prevent the treatment from being as effective?"

Other people's experiences may NOT EVER happen to you. I didn't take it for a whole year because of these kinds of websites. Let's put this out there: I DO NOT LIVE A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. I eat fried food, I eat out a lot (hence, why I think I got the bacteria). I barely work out, and I'm considered overweight. (NOT BRAGGING, JUST BEING TRUTHFUL) And the medicine still worked for me. If you're dealing with horrific side effects, 9/10 you were probably dealing with those things one way or another without medication. For the nausea, eat 1/2 a toast before taking it. For the insomnia, don't take it right before you go to bed, 2-3 hours in advance. The metallic taste goes away after you eat."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Diagnosed with H. pylori and am put on medication, 2 antibiotics and 2 nausea acid reflux medicines. Day 1 of taking the medicine, I felt so nauseous and weak. Day 2 was headaches, feeling not myself. Then it started going downhill with side effects, the metallic taste in my mouth, nausea all the time, literally from day 1 have been feeling nauseous. The headaches slowed down by the 10th day. On Day 5, I felt like I couldn't do it anymore, I was crying because I was feeling miserable. I tried to negotiate if I could stop my medicine, but my H. pylori pain motivated me to keep pushing through. I had a constant unpleasant taste in my mouth and acid reflux, weakness, could not keep much in my stomach, and I did not dare lay on my stomach or I would throw up. Also, I noticed my stomach bloating and sometimes it spasmed, if that makes sense. Anyway, I'm on day 13, and I can't wait to be done with my medications. I thought I was the only one going through it, but I feel okay knowing my symptoms were not crazy."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I began my treatment of H. pylori 3 days ago. I was prescribed amoxicillin 2,000 mg per day, clarithromycin 1,000 mg per day, and pantoprazole 80 mg per day. Like everyone else, I find the metallic taste the worst. It keeps me up at night, so I am lacking sleep. I have the bloating, and the diarrhea started today, although it's not too bad. I am concerned that my doctor didn't prescribe lansoprazole but gave me the pantoprazole instead, it seems my other medication dosages are quite high. I take 10 pills a day. I do better with less food in my stomach. I am using an excellent protein supplement drink with added yogurt and fruit. I replace one meal a day with that. I sip on almond milk throughout the day. I am edgy and emotional and have retreated to my room to avoid annoyances beyond my door. I am trying to stay positive, knowing that I will probably feel so much better when this is all over. While I take to my bed, I visualize the antibiotics killing off these nasty little beasts. That helps too. Good luck, everyone."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I have had stomach problems for the past 6 years and was prescribed medications such as Nexium, Zantac, and Protonix, however, I saw no results. 2 weeks ago, I went to emergency for extreme stomach pain and vomiting. I was diagnosed with H. pylori and given the 14-day treatment Prevpac. The first couple of days, I had symptoms such as a metal taste in my mouth and feeling fatigued. On day 7, I started getting minor headaches. I am pleased to say I am on day 14 and just finished the pack, and I am feeling great. Make sure to drink lots of fluids and eat healthy during the treatment."

I was given Prevpac to get rid of H. pylori, which was the underlying cause of my chronic gastritis and terrible pain and discomfort in my chest from reflux and inflammation. I just completed the 14-day Prevpac kit. This treatment definitely works, and I feel 100% better now that it's over. It takes time for it to fully kick in, though. I started feeling relief at day 5 and felt 100% better at day 10. To me, my experience wasn't as bad as some of the reviews I read prior to starting the medication. Based on suggestions I read, I took a daily probiotic, which helped a lot with the side effects, so I recommend that. The one constant symptom was the metallic taste in my mouth, especially when first waking up. But all I had to do was drink something, and it went away. I had diarrhea a couple of times, but nothing extreme. A few stomach aches/cramps as well. At the very end, I developed a little yeast infection (which can happen when taking antibiotics), but I easily got rid of it with over-the-counter meds. The side effects are very bearable. Overall, the most annoying thing for me was having to take so many pills at once and in one day and also the cost. After my insurance paid their part, I paid $75, which to me is a lot. But the packaging said before insurance it was about $750."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am on day 10 of medication, and I can identify my symptoms to most of you, but I can say that they were worse in the first 6-8 days. Metallic taste in my mouth, nausea, diarrhea (almost black stool), bloating, and lots of burping and reflux. It's interesting how doctors noticed I had H. pylori. I started with a weird shortness of breath (which is still there), but I have done so many tests, and they all came back normal: ECG, stress test, chest X-ray, heart and lungs ultrasound, abdominal ultrasound, barium meal (upper GI series), and several blood tests. They were all normal. The only problem found was H. pylori. I hope I can finish the treatment and start feeling better ASAP."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Well, let me begin by saying I never experienced heartburn or had symptoms prior to the endoscopy that found the H. Pylori, so to be perfectly honest, the treatment has been a bit brutal. The metallic taste in my mouth is so bad if I actually do sleep, it wakes me and I am extremely nauseated. Diarrhea also. Fatigue, a definite. A lot of burping now, and now I seem to be actually experiencing heartburn. The one positive I will say is I noticed the bloating I have had for several years, which honestly I thought was my stomach, is going down significantly. Also, yogurt is your friend, I find it helps with the metallic taste. I have a few more days to go, so I hope it’s worth it! Hang in there, there’s light at the end of the tunnel."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was very dubious and anxious about taking this cocktail of tablets. I always tell myself not to read reviews, but I always end up reading anyway. I've read a lot of horror stories, from allergic reactions to not being able to get out of bed. However, I've had no major side effects from this treatment. The only side effect I had was a metallic taste in the mouth. I suggest getting a pack of Polos, as it really helps. I have two days left of taking these antibiotics, and I feel completely normal. I've not had loose stools or any stomach cramps. I've not been fatigued either, the only thing is a lot of gas, but it's not been crippling like others have experienced. I suggest drinking a lot of water to flush the system and eating before taking the medication. I urge people not to feel worried about completing treatment or stop because they've read a bad review, because I can say that I'd rather have a bit of metallic taste and gas than go through the pain I was in with Helicobacter pylori."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Reading these reviews, and at least, good to know I'm not the only one who has struggled with H. Pylori. Saw multiple doctors...all brushed it off. Was finally scheduled for an upper endoscopy. Prior to the appt, felt the worst ever. Symptoms over months had progressed from stomach pain and acid reflux (managed with 40 mg Prilosec twice a day) to fatigue, burping, chest pains, liver and spleen pain, feeling confused and delirious, diarrhea. Finally, a walk-in clinic doctor ordered a stool sample test. I'm on day 3 of Prevpac and feeling better. Metallic taste in the AM but goes away. Loading up on probiotics...highly recommended. Definitely need to take with food. I'll have to retest in about a month, but hoping this works! Best of luck to everyone!!!"

I was nervous to start this 14-day therapy of medicines, but I toughened up and went for it. I am on my second day of Prevpac. I have some symptoms. The first day I took it, about 2 hours after, I felt tired, along with a metallic taste in my mouth. I ate right after I took it and drank plenty of water. The taste went away fairly quickly in the morning, however, in the evening, I got the same symptoms, but the metallic taste was worse. I just kept drinking water. This morning, I woke up with loose stools. Also, for some reason, I have been having an increased appetite. I guess it's a good thing considering I haven't been eating. I am a 27-year-old. Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I'm on my fourth day of using the Prevpac for H. pylori infection, which was discovered during a medical procedure (colonoscopy and endoscopy). I was experiencing stomach discomfort (throbbing alternating aches from left to right), which prompted me to have these procedures. Day one: I felt tired and experienced severe stomach pain, including bloating, but it (stomach pain) eventually subsided. Day two: minor stomach pain and little bloating. Day three: I did not experience any pain, but I had the metallic taste and felt fatigued. I have noticed that my bowels are larger (sorry for the extra information) than normal. For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I tested positive for H. pylori and presented with blood in stool samples, upper left quadrant pain. Never had symptoms of heartburn or reflux prior to being diagnosed. I was on a 7-day treatment, and I received 96% of the side effects: migraine that wouldn't go away throughout the whole course, dizziness, muscle aches and bone/joint pain, heart palpitations, burning pains throughout my abdomen, nausea, diarrhea, itchy skin, bubbly itchy rash in one small patch, pins and needles in my right hand, horrid chemically metallic taste in my mouth, loss of appetite, brain fog, confusion, weight loss, fever, chills, and sweats. It's almost been a week since finishing the treatment. My body still hurts, especially my legs, it feels as though there's no blood flow to them. Blood in the stool and the ulcer is still causing pain. Can't go through that treatment again."

The first few days were great. Felt better than I have in the last year. But on day 8, I started to feel ill. Terrible, terrible nausea, stomach ache, headache, loss of energy, can’t sleep, hate food, metallic taste... Thought of stopping treatment, but after reading other posts, I will take some probiotics, yogurt, Gravol, and hope it gets me through the next 4 days. I found if you need quick relief from the stomach pain and nausea for an hour, Gaviscon will help. Hope this works. Could not go through another course of treatment."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Been prescribed this for the second time. (First time Metronidazole, Lansoprazole, and amoxicillin with severe side effects, so I had to stop taking it, including nausea 97% of the time, abdominal cramps, loss of appetite). This is a 7-day treatment. Just finished day 1 of the medication. Took my first dose this morning, had no side effects for 4 hours. I went back to sleep and woke up with a STRONG metallic taste in my mouth that I couldn't flush out. Taken my second dose after dinner and now suffering from upper back pain on my left side. Not sure if it's a side effect from the medication. Also, my guts are moving a lot more as if there's wind trapped inside. These are side effects I can handle for 7 days, hoping I don't get severe nausea."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I had acute gastritis and went to the ER to get IV fluids. While there, they ran a test for H. pylori and it was positive. My only symptoms prior to the ER visit were frequent heartburn. I was given a prescription for Biaxin, amoxicillin, and omeprazole for 14 days. I got online and was horrified by the reviews. I delayed starting my meds. The first three days were hell on earth: nausea, fatigue, anxiety. I learned very quickly to eat with each dose. I had the metallic taste up until day 10, and then it went away. I'm wrapping up day 12, and while the treatment was tough in the beginning, it is doable. My GI is going to do an EGD in 60 days. I was also told to continue omeprazole for 2 months to heal ulcers and combat rebound reflux. Feeling better!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Be your own advocate. I have had anemia, which leaves me fatigued for a very long time. I have suffered from severe bloating, pain, belching, and flatulence. I made an appointment a few weeks ago because I was having difficulty breathing and had severe bloating. I thought it was the arthritis. The blood work showed that my iron levels were 6 micrograms per deciliter. Normal levels for women range from 26 to 170. She has been prescribing me iron supplements for three years. On this particular visit, she sent me for some blood work, and it came back positive for Helicobacter. I was so glad to have a name that had caused me so much pain over the years. Since starting the medication, I have had pretty much all the side effects, including metallic taste in my mouth, severe bloating and pain, vivid dreams, insomnia, diarrhea, and most recently, itching. I am on day 12 of 14 and am looking forward to getting this nasty bacteria out of my system. Chewing gum has helped with the metallic taste."
