"Having had regular migraines for about 40 years and tried many different prophylactic drugs with no real improvement. I started 5 mg of amlodipine last year and have not had a headache in 8 months. It has been miraculous."

"Last summer I was in the hospital because of a stroke. To stabilize my blood pressure, my Dr. used 4 different pills, including amlodipine. I once got migraines once a month or more. I haven't had one in 11 months. I think they're gone, and I DON'T MISS THEM AT ALL. Thank you for amlodipine."

"I started suffering from persistent migraines at 45 years old. The migraines have gradually worsened over time. I am taking amitriptyline every night, and it has lessened the severity but has not prevented the migraines from developing. I was prescribed amlodipine for high blood pressure 2 months ago, and it has helped in relieving my migraines more. I’ve had only 3 migraines in the 2 months as opposed to 1 or 2 per week before taking amlodipine."

"I am a 44-year-old male. After trying lots of meds for migraine, I just started Norvasc 5 mg. I was having at least two episodes of severe attacks a week. The pain would concentrate on the occipital nerves in the base of the skull and radiate both upward and downward. I have been a migraine sufferer since childhood. Norvasc changed my life. I am 3 weeks on this medication and no migraine as yet. While the experience with this medication is great, I am wondering for how long I need to take it. I feel myself kind of addicted. No life if I am unable to take this medication."

"I suffered from migraines from about the age of 20 until this year - 2021. They were horrendous and wiped out days. I’m 72 now and was prescribed Amlodipine just by chance for high blood pressure. Well! After about two weeks, I noticed I wasn’t having the usual two or three migraines a week. I couldn’t believe it at first. As so it’s carried on. My life has changed. I feel free. I mentioned this to the doctor, and he said it was just a “coincidence.” I don’t think so. It’s fantastic."

"Migraine for most of my life, maybe every two weeks. Very predictable path. Would wake me from sleep and continue for almost exactly 18 hours. Nothing much touched it: aspirin, ibuprofen, paracetamol. Doctor prescribed amlodipine for hypertension (not for migraine) 18 months ago. I have not had one since. Occasionally, I wake with prodrome feelings, but it has not proceeded to full migraine. Completely life-changing for me."

"I was prescribed amlodipine 5mg for uncontrollable high blood pressure by my doctor. I have suffered from intense migraines since I was 14 years old, I'm now 42. Every little thing would give me a migraine. I've lost count of how many triggers I had because there were so many. I felt like I was living my life around triggers and the migraines. Honestly, I was starting to get depressed because it was playing on my mental health always having to nurse a migraine and missing out on so much because of them. If a migraine did come on, I would have to take Imitrex, but with the limited amount of pills I could get a month, it just wasn't sufficient long term because I never knew when I would get a migraine. It's been 2 weeks I've been taking amlodipine and not only has my blood pressure gone down, but I haven't had a headache since I started this medication. Not even a little bit lol. It's truly a miracle pill for me!"

"I suffered from chronic migraines for several years and was using triptans weekly for my recurring migraines. I have tried multiple medications in the past and found nothing worked until I tried amlodipine 5 mg a day. Within 2 weeks, my migraines went away, and I have not had another migraine in over 8 years now. I have not noticed any side effects from the medication."

"The first 2/3 days were very encouraging. It helped me a lot. But afterwards, I had severe side effects, chronic diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, etc. Generally feeling really crap, so that I had to stay home for a couple of days. Even a reduction in dosage didn't help much. Switched to verapamil, which works similarly, but practically without side effects for me."

"I was diagnosed with ischemic heart disease in September of 2010 when I was 38 years old after having had extensive stenting done. Amlodipine is part of my daily medication regimen. Now 50, I have not had one single migraine in 12 years - where I used to suffer almost daily with one, some lasting several days and some even a week long. The headaches would be a lot worse on overcast days and would interrupt most of my daily activities including work. If you suffer from migraine attacks, I think it would be worth it to talk to your doctor and see if it's right for you."

"Writing again, I guess amlodipine has something to do with my sleep stages. I feel some changes in the depth of night sleep. Before taking this med, I was generally having very deep and unconscious-type night sleeps and regular migraines in the base of the skull (occipital nerves) after awakening in the morning. Whenever I was very tired and feeling very sleepy before going to bed at night, I woke up in the midnight due to severe pain in the base of the skull. Whenever I suddenly awaken from deep sleep due to external interruption, I found myself a bit confused for some time. With amlodipine, I have moderate depth of sleep and don't get confused if suddenly awakened/interrupted from sleep. No migraines so far."

"Until recently (10/14/24), I had been taking amlodipine 5 mg once a day after it was determined that I was suffering from migraine headaches for many years after a two-week stay in the hospital for what was thought to be TIAs. My family physician and neurologist prescribed amlodipine 5 mg. That was almost 10 years ago. I still suffered from minor headaches from time to time, but no migraines! My family physician stopped my amlodipine due to leg swelling being a side effect. Because I’m prone to blood clots, he also ordered Doppler ultrasounds on both legs. My migraines came back within 3 days of stopping the 5 mg amlodipine. I can honestly say that amlodipine works for the preventive treatment of migraines."

"Started amlodipine, 5 mg, in the mid-1990s. Eliminated frequent migraines and clusters ever since. Maybe once a month, I get a migraine-ish headache that is treatable with one reach of Tylenol and ibuprofen. BP was never a problem and remains unremarkable even now at 71 years old."
