"I am a 64-yr-old female. I did my first shot yesterday. Had to go to ER with very high BP, rapid heartbeats, swollen eyelids, jittery, head and neck pain, itching, red skin. It was a negative experience."

"I just got approved to use Praluent. I've had it for 4 days now. I'm too nervous to do the injection. So I've been reading all the comments that are helpful. The question I'm looking for, does anyone know the size of the needle, please, as I'm horrified of all needles, please???"

"I have had two shots getting ready for my third. Not sure if I want to take it because I've had chills, headache, nausea a lot, also aching. I'm going to get my blood test tomorrow to see if it's lowered enough for me to keep taking this, 'cause the side effects for me are horrible. Also, my blood pressure goes from being high to drastically low."

"I have only been taking this medication, Praluent, a short time, so I can't say whether it has helped reduce my cholesterol. What I don't like about this drug is that it makes me feel nauseous, and I sweat profusely, which is upsetting and embarrassing as I work part-time at a store as a dressing room attendant or a cashier."

"My total cholesterol has dropped from 268 to 125! The 'all-important' LDL (bad cholesterol) has been reduced from 184 to 50! Dramatic reductions in just 6 weeks on 150 mg every two weeks. My HbA1c is essentially the same at 6.6 (was 6.7)...not bad. Kidney, liver- all stable and okay. No side effects at all with Praluent. Statins are toxic to my system-not just side effects, but toxic."

"Been taking shots for 4 months. My eyes are very red, so I bought eye drops, did not help. Have back pain and upper thigh pain and itching. It lowered everything, but I can't take the tiredness anymore. I want to sleep all the time. This stuff is evil. Now I have to wait 100 days to get it out of my system."

"I started on Praluent 3 years ago, not long after it was first introduced in the UK. After over ten years of on and off, mostly off statins, due to their almost crippling side effects, this drug has been a godsend. My cholesterol is below recommended levels for the first time ever, for two years in a row. After having stents and one heart attack, I now feel, for the first time in years, I'm no longer waiting for another imminent episode! Side effects: a few muscle aches, but nothing like the statins, and only last a short while. Easy to take once every two weeks."

"I've been on Praluent 150 mg/ml every two weeks for approximately 6 months to lower my cholesterol. Was previously on statins, but the side effects for me got worse over time (muscle cramps, fatigue, brain fog). Praluent has worked well in getting my cholesterol numbers in the normal range, but I've experienced hoarseness, stuffy nose, some muscle cramps in lower legs and feet. I also have periods of strong and rapid heartbeat, and my blood pressure has been creeping up. I notice the symptoms more in the first few days after the injection, and they get better within 5 to 7 days. I'm intolerant to a lot of medications, and my statin intolerance got worse over time. I'm hoping the same is not true for Praluent. My cardiologist (who is the medical director of a prominent cardiology center in my city) said she is aware of the cramps, hoarseness, and nasal congestion as side effects, but not the rapid heartbeat or higher blood pressure. Yet I see a lot of similar reactions in these reviews."

"I took the first Praluent 150 injection, and on the 3rd day after, I got a terrible UTI. On day 5, I got severe body aches and muscle spasms. I’m on my second antibiotic for the UTI. I went to the doctor once and, 5 days later, ended up at the ER. I’m supposed to take my 2nd injection on Saturday, but that won’t be happening. I’m just hoping my body gets back to normal soon. The Praluent injection was worse than Crestor or Lipitor for me."

"I couldn't tolerate statins. Tried 3. Each one gave a lot of pain... liver and angina. I had to stop them. While off them for a month, my total cholesterol went from 165 to 213, LDLs went from 65 to 110. Now my total is 97 and LDLs are 24. I take Lovaza to keep my HDLs up at 45-49; they never were above 34 my whole life, no matter what I tried. I have no side effects and I feel the best in 5 years."

"Switched from Repatha to Praluent due to insurance. I injected the first of the month. Now, after 2 ER visits and a bunch of prednisone, it's finally starting to leave my body. To recap, the next day I felt like I got hit with the flu, had no energy, and felt like crap. Shortly after, my whole face, fingers, and feet blew up, and I was covered in hives from head to toe. I'm a day done with my steroids, and the hives are already coming back. Not as bad, but enough to be bothersome, especially during bedtime. If you have any sensitivity to statins, I highly suggest you stay away."

"After 15 years on statins, I could not accept living with the continuous aches and pains. After three months on Praluent, I feel fine, no noticeable side effects, no problem with injections. Cholesterol numbers reduced dramatically."

"I have stopped taking injections which were every 2 weeks. I have itching all over, tingling all over, mouth ulcers, walking problems, pains in legs. I am passing urine more often. I have stopped only 4 days ago. I told the doctor who gave this to me, and he said to stop taking it and see what happens. I have to have a second blood test (full one) next week as the first one was incorrect or had queries. I have been taking this medication for approximately 2 years now. Although it brought my cholesterol right down, I feel I can control it with diet as it's not worth the effects I am having. I have read it takes up to 100 days for it to clear the system."

"After having a myocardial infarction on December 22, 2015, I was still struggling to get my numbers down. After trying just about every statin on the market, they all made my body ache and my joints so stiff I had to have help getting out of bed. I changed physicians, she tried another statin with no luck. She asked if I would be willing to try Praluent injections. Long story short, notice side effects, numbers have dropped dramatically, and I feel great, only benefit on injections three months. Thank God for this medication! Got help paying for this from the manufacturer!"

"Mine is the usual story. I got horrific muscle cramps, especially in my thighs, from taking even the smallest imaginable dose of a statin (5 mg per week). I just had to stop taking any statin. I tried diet alone to lower my numbers, and that didn't work. I fought trying an injectable for my cholesterol/cardiovascular issues for several years until I didn't have any options left. Two weeks ago, I gave myself my first Praluent injection. I'm needle-phobic, so imagine my surprise when I never even felt the tiny needle and had to check to make sure it was actually in my skin. Then yesterday, I did my second of my two monthly injections, and it was the same; over in about 5-10 seconds! This was the big hurdle for me, so if you think you can't do an injectable, try it. It's really no big deal. This drug costs me $250/month with my Blue Cross insurance. I am hoping as users go up, the price will go down. Time will tell if my cholesterol goes down."

"No injection site problems. I do develop diarrhea and have horrible muscle spasms in my lower back for the week following the injection. It has helped to lower my cholesterol as I have severe side effects with oral statins."

"I have been on Praluent for about 2 years. My lab numbers are awesome. However, 2 weeks ago, after my bimonthly injection, I developed a terrible itchy, scaly rash at the injection site. No problems with the next 2, but then same thing again (different site). Not sure what's changed."

"Injections are and have always been painless. I am going into my ninth week. Last cholesterol check my number before starting Praluent was 235. Since then, things appear much clearer, not so lightheaded as before. Blood pressure is much lower and is controlled. I am much more tired than I used to be. I also feel lethargic on the first four days following each shot. Sometimes feel faint, but again no more head fog and no more fatigue, which before Praluent was severe. If anyone is considering this drug, I would try it. I am confident that the sides of this drug are much better than the side effects of a stroke or heart attack. In closing, all good things come from the Lord Jesus, never forget that."

"I have been on this for a month. Two injections so far. I am 64 years old, I exercise frequently and have a history of cholesterol - total number under 200, however. Since taking this drug, I have been sluggish and fatigued. The fatigue comes and goes. Prior to taking this, I rode my stationary bike about 8 to 10 miles every other day. It is difficult to do what I regularly did prior to initiating this drug. Now, my exercise routine is tougher to do, and I am very fatigued after riding. PSk9 inhibitors appear to have an impact on my blood pressure response to exercise. Hypotension response appears amplified (I am going for a follow-up on this). Research I have read on the PSK9s like this says, however, that the impact is 'inconclusive' with respect to BP. However, I am more fatigued being on this drug. The first few days my cognitive abilities were impaired, but this did improve. I also had more frequent nighttime urination. I am not taking a third Praluent injection."

"I found Praluent fairly easy to use, however, I experienced very little reduction in my levels. What I did experience was inflammation of two pre-existing weaknesses in my body-both my feet and my right elbow. Neither of these things caused me great discomfort prior to Praluent, but left me almost unable to walk, and performing normal activities with my right arm was excruciatingly painful. I could no longer safely lift things like a kettle, or whipper snip, trim hedges, etc.-things I’d always easily managed. It took me a few weeks to connect the onset of this pain with Praluent, but it reduced considerably after I stopped using the product. I will always have these weaknesses in my body, but the inflammation caused by this medication is not something I am prepared to put up with for the rest of my life."

"Been taking 150 mg of Praluent for 2 months now. The first month was perfectly fine, had no problems as I inject it in my thigh areas. However, I got a big welt and itching in that area from the third injection. I changed the injection site to my other thigh for the fourth injection and had the same side effect. Showed my cardiologist when I went in for a follow-up, but they did not seem concerned as levels were down. I’m allergic to all statins and had to try something, will continue if this is all that happens. I can tolerate it with anti-itch cream. I will discontinue, though, if more side effects appear. Will see what happens in my third month. I’m 71 years old and have had 2 stents over 21 years. My high cholesterol numbers just jumped in the last year, possibly due to age as I’m a healthy eater and I exercise three times a week. Will update again in 2-3 months."

"I've been taking Praluent 75 for 2 months now and report no side effects. I take ibuprofen before the injection so I don't feel the small bee sting feeling in my leg. I am 70 years old and hope to take the injection forever to prevent another heart attack and a $55,000 bill for 2 days in the hospital. 10-10-2018. Express Scripts just sent me a letter approving my prescription."

"My family has a genetic history of high cholesterol. I've been using Praluent since it came out after the clinical trials. We arranged a cath lab examination two years after I started taking the Praluent, and everything looked normal around the heart, with no calcium buildup other than one little speck. I've never had a stroke or heart attack. My cholesterol levels are in the normal range but were high when I was younger. Statins had too many side effects, and I stopped using them. The side effects are minimal to date. I take two injections twice a month, 150 mg each."
