Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors

Other names: SNRIs

What are Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors?

Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (also called SNRIs) are a group of medicines that may be used in the treatment of depression, anxiety, panic disorder and some other mood disorders.

They block or delay the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, two neurotransmitters released by the presynaptic nerves. This increases the levels of these two neurotransmitters in the synapse and tends to elevate mood.
