"NP is the best NDT on the market today. I have tried EVERYTHING. Was suggested this by Mayo Clinic in MN. I would give it a '10,' but it's very, very hard to get exactly right. You will have ups and downs, which technically isn't the fault of the medication. Don't increase your dosage too quickly, happened to me a few times. BE PATIENT and RESEARCH. It will take time to get back to 'normal.' Good luck and DON'T QUIT!"

"I was on Levothyroxine for years (17). I have 7 thyroid nodules, and my physician is monitoring them closely. I begged my doctor to try Armour as I was so depressed, had brain fog, and felt the worst ever. I was put on 90 grains of Armour, within 6 months, my TSH was .04. I was having tremors and a racing heart. Apparently, my body is extremely sensitive to Armour. I am now transitioning back to Synthroid/Levothyroxine and hopefully T3. Over the years, your body changes (of course) - listen to your body. Everyone is different. Good luck."

"Armour Thyroid 60 mg was okay for about 3 months, then I got edema in my feet and hands. Paresthesia in my leg and face. Horrible nerve problems with trembling, shaking hands. I was dizzy and very depressed, hair loss, weight gain, tiredness, sweating, crying, vision problems-couldn’t drive, freezing. I couldn’t function. All my hypo symptoms were worse than ever. Emergency carpal tunnel surgery. Heart palpitations, high blood pressure. I reduced and then stopped, and symptoms started to go away. Back to Synthroid and am a work in progress again. 5 endo docs and none helped me. They just look at TSH. Good luck, everyone. Stay away from Armour, and Nature Thyroid was just as bad. All my scans and blood work normal. Good luck, everyone."

"I was on Armour Thyroid as was doing okay. Not great, but certainly better than when I was on Synthroid. Then my pharmacy changed my prescription to NP Thyroid from ACE without telling me, and I have been horribly sick to my stomach, headaches, exhausted, confused, and foggy-brained. No medicine is worth this."

"New batch has a horrible, horrible cat litter smell, thicker pills, and speckles on it! Different formula for sure, especially after consuming it, my thyroid is super swollen, and I’m having body aches, something I get when I eat dairy or food I am not supposed to! This is unacceptable. I tried reaching out by phone and email to Acella and no answer! We want answers now!!!! This is harming us patients with this autoimmune disorder. If you want your money's worth, give us something worthy, please, we’re begging you, we need this medication to stay alive and in good shape for the sake of our family and jobs!"

"Been taking Nature-Throid (48.75 mg) for about 2 years now, and feel great as long as I also sleep well, manage my stress, and stay mostly on the Autoimmune Paleo diet. Have been playing around with diet and lifestyle, and if I eat certain things, I notice a rise in TSH, as well as symptoms (brain fog, low energy, and weight gain). I checked it by sticking to the AIP diet for 3 months, and my TSH went to normal range, and I felt normal. It’s not ideal, but worth it to feel good. Also, I always take meds on an empty stomach in the AM."

"A few weeks after starting Nature-Throid, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis very suddenly. I am currently researching this to see if there is any connection. I had osteoarthritis all my adult life, but now it's much more serious. If you have had this happen, or know someone who has, I would like to know."

"I have noticed a change in health within 2 weeks of a change in taste on the batch of NP Thyroid I received. It changed in October 2019. It appears a sweetener and something else were added to the pills. More fillers and less medicine. I even inquired at the pharmacy that I got it from if there was an ingredient change. They checked the computer and said no. I haven't felt well since the change."

"After 3 years of a hellish ordeal with Synthroid, I decided to quit thyroid hormone replacement. Synthroid was literally killing me. The worst I've ever felt. 6 months after stopping Synthroid, I was 'allowed' to take NDT. I took Armour for over a year, and while it worked great to suppress TSH, I still had hypo symptoms. After 15 months on Armour, I was accidentally dispensed NP Thyroid without knowing what it was. After I verified it to be an NDT, I took it. After 2 months on NP, I didn't feel perfect, but I noticed the sweating was gone and constipation resolved. After 4 months, everything was going well, the pharmacy corrected their 'mistake' and gave me Armour. Back to the constipation/sweating. I had to fight to get back NP. Five months, no excessive sweating or constipation, and I'm dreaming again (yay 4 REM) and taking fewer naps in the P.M., like I used to do as if my life depended on it. I recommend you try NP Thyroid if you have T4-to-T3 conversion issues. I wish you the best, and I hope you regain your life."

"The problem is finding a doctor in MD who will prescribe Armour Thyroid. Some PCPs will, however, once referred to an endocrinologist, they refuse to prescribe, at least in the state of MD. I found that with Armour Thyroid, I felt my best without any side effects."

"I switched from Synthroid to Armour last year and felt better for the first couple of months. I've had an on-again, off-again scalp itch/rash that I could not figure out for the life of me. About 6 months into Armour, I was overwhelmed by all my symptoms: fatigue, depression, low libido, joint pain, and the scalp itch/rash just would not go away. My endo let me try a 30-day supply of Tirosint, and the rash went away, and I felt so much better. Just to test my theory, I went back to Armour after the 30 days. Very quickly, I realized it was DEFINITELY the Armour, and I'm going back to Tirosint. Armour is SO much cheaper, but not worth it!"

"I was on Synthroid for about 15 years, it made my hair fall out, and I was always exhausted. I told my endocrine doc, and he told me that it wasn’t the Synthroid, it was my Hashimoto's :-( Fast forward to two years ago, I moved and got a new doctor and hairdresser. The hairdresser asked me how long I’d been on Synthroid, I told him 15 years. He said to get on a natural NP Thyroid. I did and immediately felt better, and my hair came in thick and shiny!"

"Switched from Levothyroxine to NP Thyroid in Aug 2017 and have been very happy with the response - finally feeling a bit normal and lost some weight. But this last refill, the smell and taste are AWFUL!! Like others have reported, I called Acella and got the standard answer that it can vary from batch to batch - but I’ve been on it for 2 years, and it’s never been like this! Hope they get it straightened out soon!!"

"Took Nature-Throid successfully for 3 years, 32 mcg/day. Developed Hashimoto's with a small thyroid nodule. Increased dosage by 16.25 mg 2x/week. Doctor did not do a follow-up check on serum T3 levels. Toxicity after only 6 months - weak, lung tightness - faint, developed food allergies very quickly. Scary experience which has lingering effects 1 month later. Switched to Tirosint, which has no fillers & T4 only. Working okay so far."

"Since 2017, I was doing very well on my NP thyroid. Then May 2020 hit and all changed. No more NP, so I was placed on Synthroid, then Tirosint tablet, then Tirosint SOL, and finally Armour. I hesitated at first to re-try Armour because it had caused me hives back in early 2017. But this time it didn't. Even though I started back in Sept. 2020, I have NOT been able to increase because it increases my anxiety to the point that I'm suffering attacks and chest pains. By doctor's orders, I went to see a psychiatrist and therapist, but my therapist states she's not convinced this anxiety IS mental, but leaning more towards the Armour. Now I'm on the verge of getting a DNA test done to help see if I have any exclusive sensitivities that'll tie it all down for me. Don't get me wrong, I do like this med since it has way, way less side effects, but I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing chest pains with it, or am I exclusive?"

"Loved NP Thyroid but then started feeling really ill. Migraines, fatigue, nausea, joint pain, brain fog, etc. This was my lifesaver and now just horrible. My doctor switched me to medication from a compounding pharmacy. So disappointed in Acella Pharmaceuticals for changing what was a wonderful product."

"I have been using Armour since 1997 or earlier. Feel much better on the Armour than Synthroid. Synthroid made me swell up with water, which, by the way, is a side effect. I never heard so many complaints about Armour. Most who can't tolerate Synthroid do great on Armour because it has T3 and T4 in it, versus Synthroid, which only has T4 that has to convert in your body. Most who have Hashimoto's find the T3 and T4 works for them better. Been on thyroid support groups forever. For those who can't find a doctor to prescribe the Armour, call the pharmacist and ask which doctors prescribe it. Go to them. I tell my GP I needed it renewed, and they didn't question it."

"Was on Armour Thyroid for years. I needed to increase my dose last year and was given NP Thyroid as a supplement. I became regulated by December 2019. By March 2020, I was hypo again. I went in and my doctor couldn't believe I had fallen so fast. He is struggling to let me use NDT because he believes in levothyroxine. I increased the dose, four weeks later, I was almost comatose, so I called to raise again. Only mildly better, but still hypo. I talked to the admin of a thyroid Facebook page who said to stick to Armour only! NP was reformulated in September 2019, and the company won't admit to it, but many have fallen hypo since!"

"I was on Nature-Throid for about 12 years, it was the best. I cannot take any other thyroid medicine because of fillers and other stuff they put in the medication. I am now compounding, but it is not working, my TSH is off the chart. I actually believe the FDA is the problem. They take thyroid medication off the market because they want you to take synthetic medication, which does not work. I continue to take the compounded one, but TSH is 43 and just try to function because there are no other options out there. Nature-Throid needs to come back to the market. Something is very fishy with the FDA."

"Being very sensitive to pharmaceuticals, my endocrinologist was okay with me taking Armour after being diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease. Since I started taking it, I felt so much better with my energy and general well-being. No side effects as far as I can tell. Hopefully, I can continue taking it till I die. I did gain a lot of weight, but I don't know if it's from my thyroid disease or the Armour. My TSH was 2.20 last blood test. Personally, I think it's the best thyroid medication out there."

"It has taken me a long time to get back to feeling ‘normal’ after the 2020 relapses of Nature Thyroid and NP Thyroid medication recalls. When visiting the endos, I felt helpless, and it all happened right before the pandemic began. The fact that Armour sold out to a different company doesn’t help me feel any better for thyroid patients around the world. HOWEVER, being that I have also tried Synthroid and Tirosint and experienced horrific side effects that wouldn’t subside, Armour IS the only medication left for me to trust. I have stuck it out through 11 months and have finally started to find my balance, with a dash of anti-depressant on the side, of course. Here’s to hoping everyone gets to feeling better and that the big medicine investors start showing ‘some’ sort of sympathy for thyroid patients. *crossed fingers*"

"I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 2 years ago, had been having a lot of stress in my life. I have never been fatigued, but did have weight gain, I gained 20 pounds and had a moon-sized face. I thought that it was grief (lost husband). I am also a nurse. I was put on Synthroid 75 mcg and felt worse, hair started falling out, felt like I was in a dream all of the time, no weight loss, and depression. Told my endo that I felt bad and he ignored me. That's when I started digging into what to eat (I am already a vegetarian), taking supplements, and all of this helped. I went to a family practice doctor and demanded Armour. Felt great for the first two months. I started having the fight or flight feelings. I am now hyperthyroid. Two weeks on lower dose and have lost 15 pounds."

"I started taking a very low dose back in the summer of 2014. I was walking 3 miles a day. After about 3 weeks, I could no longer walk like I used to due to the pain in my neck! I went for tests, heart, blood work, they found nothing. I took myself off Armour in January 2015. I started feeling better. I would never take this drug again."

"I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in early 2019. Since then, I was on levothyroxine. My thyroid levels were constantly showing as normal on my labs, but I always felt the symptoms of being hypothyroid. I went to an endocrinologist for the first time 2-3 months ago, and she prescribed me 90 mcg of NP Thyroid to be taken one half of a tablet daily. I noticed that the pill has a porky smell, like pig sweat? But it doesn’t bother me much, and I take it down quickly so I don’t taste it. I have since lost 10 lbs, and I feel so amazing. I feel like myself again, motivated to clean, clear-headed, calm. I really hope that I don’t ever get a bad batch because I love how I feel on NP Thyroid."

"Was put on Armour after NP Thyroid recall, they never told anyone they changed their formulation. NP Thyroid made me really sick. Even though I took my meds every morning, I ended up with a TSH of 19. I switched to Armour and was doing fine until last year in December when I started having racing heartbeat, palpitations, insomnia, cortisol spikes, vision changes, diarrhea, chest pain, tightness in my back, neck, shoulders, digestive issues, and hot flashes. Irregular periods, really bad anxiety, and even a panic attack. My TSH has been all over the place like a yo-yo. One month it's suppressed, the next it's in the 1's, then it jumps to the 3's, and then drops back down again. If my TSH is doing all that, you know my free T3 and T4 are all over the place too. One day I'd take my meds and feel fine, two days later, anxiety and complete instability. I ended up on blood pressure medications to control the racing heartbeat. My endo said a few months back that Armour had stopped working for people."
