Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "I’m 29 years old and was active. I have knee pain that’s been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and floating debris with Hoffa fat pad impingement. I was given Durolane on 5 April 2023, it’s now the 25th of April, and I have been in constant pain with sharp, random shooting pains at rest. Before the injection, I was able to carry out my physio program, now I’m having to rest and ice it as it’s constantly in pain with slight swelling. My doctor has slapped me on endone and is telling me it’s all in my head. I'm beyond frustrated and emotional. I'm now waiting to see an orthopedic surgeon."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "I have bone-on-bone osteoarthritis in my left knee. I have, over the past five or so years, had five or six Synvisc injections. They have worked well for me, lasting for six or eight months. The injections are fairly painless, with only the sensation of fullness in my knee for a day or so, no pain. I was given my first Durolane injection three days ago. It is the most painful injection I have ever had. It hurt like anything. I am three days out and still cannot bend my knee fully. The swelling and the redness have improved, but I still have a moderate amount of discomfort. I will NEVER put myself through this again. I will stick with Synvisc, even if it means a decreased injection interval."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "Six weeks after my third injection, my right knee, which was the better of the two, is now worse. I have more pain and a lot of inflammation. My left knee is only mildly better and is still unstable. I paid a lot of money for more pain."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "I have arthritis in my right knee and have extreme pain after the injection of Durolane on 12/3/21. It is now March, and I can’t walk well at all. My knee is swollen, and the pain is unbelievable. My orthopedic MD has no answers for me, he pulled 30 cc of fluid from my knee and said there is nothing he can do! So I went to another MD, and he said I have bone on bone in my knee. I am scheduled for a total knee in June. Please research this injection before you get it. Not a good choice at all."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "This injection by a PA was incredibly painful. I thought I was going to pass out from the pain. I had to be helped out to the waiting room since I could not walk with the pain. My knee was swollen three times the size before the injection. Could not sleep in bed...had to sleep in a recliner. The doctor's office just kept saying to take a pain reliever and use ice. I suffered for six days like this, and then my original pain returned. I would never recommend this stuff to my worst enemy."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "Received a cortisone injection that gave me about 8 months of fair relief for moderate to severe knee OA. Trying to delay surgery while I lose weight to ease recovery. The second time, he injected, and my pain became horribly crippling. The doctor was dumbfounded, perhaps you hit a nerve, maybe? I sought a different doctor and found one more personable with less ego. By the time I could get another cortisone injection, I was waiting for the pre-auth for Durolane. His cortisone injection gave me improvement and hope! I wasn't walking with a nasty limp and looked forward to getting active again to lose weight. Then, when I got the Durolane injection, it's been stabbing pain, constant stiffness, swelling, and limping again. It's been a month with no improvement. My knee was better, not great though, those weeks after the cortisone and before the Durolane. I will return at 3 months and 1 day for the cortisone again. Definitely not Durolane again in 6 months. Maybe try Synvisc's version instead since I can't have surgery until I lose more weight."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "June 1 got a Durolane shot in both knees. Five days later, right foot swelled, no pain. Eighteen days later, knees were very painful, couldn't even walk! Went to doctor, said I have a blood clot in right leg. Now on a blood thinner. Will be getting a knee ablation 8/19, pray to God this helps and I can walk again."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "Seriously, the worst pain you will probably ever experience, and this is coming from someone who used to fight professionally and has had 8 different surgeries. The pain is best described as sharp nerve pain, and Panadol is needed to sleep for the first 7 days. Before getting it, I was able to walk with a slight limp, and the limp got worse over an hour of walking, not that painful though. Here's my experience so far (I was told by the doctor I will be 'slightly uncomfortable' for 48 hours)... Day 1: Got the injection in my hip and was fine until nighttime, which the pain started to kick in. Day 2-3: Extremely painful entire leg (even the knee was very swollen), unable to walk, moving leg slightly caused severe nerve pain, could not straighten leg in bed. Day 4-6: Began to slowly walk around but still painful. Day 7: Feel much better but still walk up steps one leg+step at a time, still a little painful at times. Will keep you posted. Will seek alternatives even if this drug does work."

For Osteoarthritis "I had these injections for 5 weeks. They were a little painful, I had some swelling. I thought it would work, but after the injections were over, I was still in pain. They did give me a cortisone injection after that, and it helped. But the gel shots are a waste of time. They are just stealing from Medicare."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "I am surprised to see so many negative reviews about Durolane. I had the injection in my left knee, which has early stage osteoporosis, not severe but enough to prevent me from running, a lifelong passion. I experienced only 20 seconds of pain during the injection and now, just three days later, I've had no real pain at all, minor swelling, good mobility. Still far too early to say whether it has made a difference, but I just wanted to post this to let people know I did not find the procedure too painful, unlike the experience of many others. Perhaps I have a high pain threshold or my osteo condition is not severe enough to lead to great discomfort. For now, I'll give it a 5 out of 10 as I don't yet know whether it worked, but at least it was a tolerable procedure. I did ask my surgeon to prescribe antibiotics, as she said infection can lead to long-term problems, so I thought that would be a good precaution, and she was happy to prescribe them to mitigate that remote risk."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "I had a Durolane injection one day ago. I had cartilage removal 50 years ago at 18 years old in my right knee after a car accident, so have pretty much been bone on bone since then. Over the last year, the pain has been affecting my quality of life, and I was considering a knee replacement. Unfortunately, I fractured my right ankle four months ago and was in a hard cast for two months and then two months in a walking cast. The extra stress exacerbated the pain in my knee, and I asked my orthopedic surgeon about getting a gel injection. I decided on Durolane as it was one dose. My surgeon did not advise me of any possible adverse effects. I paid $600 and had the injection. The injection went smoothly, no pain. In the middle of the night, I woke up to pain and swelling in my knee and back of my leg. I took a Tylenol and went back to sleep. This morning, I have fairly strong pain and am limping badly. I took ibuprofen and am now elevating and icing my leg. Will update pros or cons later."

For Osteoarthritis "Had sodium hyaluronate injected in both knees on May 3, 2021. I still can't walk because of severe pain/swelling in both knees. Can't get any answers and can't get any kind of help with pain pills to get me through this. Impossible to go to the bathroom if you can't bend knees to sit down. And I only had the first series of the three injections I was supposed to have. I'm 80 years old and sorry I ever did this. Have to use a walker now. I'll never be the same. Can't understand why it affected me so badly. Think twice before taking these injections."
