Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "I had gotten cortisone shots in both knees for a year. Then, when it didn’t last three months, I did Zilretta for two series. Ortho recommended Supartz, and it wasn’t fully covered by insurance, and I paid $270 for my left knee. Both knees alternated as the worst, and the left has been the worst for a few weeks. They ordered three injections a week apart. Bottom line, they caused more pain than I’ve ever experienced! I had horrible pain intermittently, feeling like a knife was stabbing into my knee. I considered stopping, but I figured it would hopefully improve. The second week it got worse, and after the third one, with no improvement, I’m not increasingly worse. The horrible side effect is that I have been limping so hard that my right knee has become just as bad as the left knee, and my back, middle and lumbar, has been experiencing excruciating pain as well. It’s been about three weeks since, and if I extend my knee, it goes directly to pain level 10. I recommend NOT USING THIS MED!!!!"

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "Has not worked. Told doctor before getting last injection I was having some discomfort and more leg pain than before. He said after this last injection in a week to 10 days I should start feeling better. Well, I haven't done anything but feel better. I have severe pain in my knee and legs feel like my actual bones are hurting, charley horse light feeling going up and down legs and my feet. My legs, if you can even imagine, are worse since injections. Scared of how long these side effects are going to last."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "I had Durolane injections in both knees, January 4, 2022. I was told this would be much better and last 6-9 months. Two days later, I'm in severe pain, both knees. I'm having chills and both knees are hot to the touch. Walking is almost impossible because of the pain. I called the orthopedic doctor to tell them what is going on with me. They said to give it time. Two weeks later, I saw the primary care doctor. She said I had a severe reaction to the injections. I'm now seeing a pain specialist and having genicular nerve blocks to help control the pain. I've started physical therapy and have a new orthopedic doctor. I found out from him that within the first 4 weeks of the injections, it can be reversed with steroid injections. Too late for me, now waiting for the injections to wear off and hoping permanent damage is not done. Pain is being controlled with pain medication, nerve blocks, and physical therapy. The past 5 months have been a nightmare for me. My whole life has been changed."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "Had the first of 3 last week - 2nd injection tomorrow. The shot itself did not seem too bad - some bad pain the next 3 days - seems better today. Will update after 2nd shot. She suggested having a cortisone shot with the series of 3 - has anyone else done that? I was hoping to not do cortisone again for a while due to weight gain."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "Received Monovisc injections in the past, and they worked well. My insurance company no longer covers it and now only covers Durolane. Had both knees injected 8 weeks ago. Severe pain for 2 days after, and although the severity isn’t as bad, I still have bad knee pain. It essentially has done nothing. Very disappointed."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "I was instructed by the orthopedic doctor to get a cortisol injection first; in order to stabilize the Supartz FX, once it was approved by Medicare. Came in the next week to get the first Supartz injection. I had 1.5 days of relief with the cortisol injection. Then my osteoarthritis pain worsened. I had knelt down on my knee on a mattress and that's what caused it to begin. Took the Supartz injection and have had a constant low-grade headache, some severe abdominal pain, and almost can't walk from the knee pain. Decided to discontinue the Supartz. Not worth it to me. My knee is worse now than when I started and I never have headaches, so giving up on it. Also, I rode my bike on some hills for a half hour a few days after the first injection...I was not instructed by my doctor NOT to put pressure on the knee. That might have set it off. But what is causing the headaches and abdominal pain?"

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "I received five Supartz injections in each knee in February of 2020. By the end of April, I was immobile and sick. I believe I had an autoimmune response to the injections. My initial symptom was shortness of breath-similar to the MS hug. Over the following year, symptoms of varying degrees came and went-including: severe, widespread joint pain, shooting pain in random bones, fatigue, loss of muscle strength, stabbing pain in eyes, incontinence, inability to walk, dizziness, and sensation of frozen ground glass on my backside when sitting. I have been tested for many, many diseases due to the symptoms and have proven negative for all. In July 2021, I'm beginning to feel normal again. I now lack muscle strength from becoming inert, fatigue easily from lack of mobility, and STILL have the pain from osteoarthritis, which the injections were supposed to address."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "Received a cortisone injection that gave me about 8 months of fair relief for moderate to severe knee OA. Trying to delay surgery while I lose weight to ease recovery. The second time, he injected, and my pain became horribly crippling. The doctor was dumbfounded, perhaps you hit a nerve, maybe? I sought a different doctor and found one more personable with less ego. By the time I could get another cortisone injection, I was waiting for the pre-auth for Durolane. His cortisone injection gave me improvement and hope! I wasn't walking with a nasty limp and looked forward to getting active again to lose weight. Then, when I got the Durolane injection, it's been stabbing pain, constant stiffness, swelling, and limping again. It's been a month with no improvement. My knee was better, not great though, those weeks after the cortisone and before the Durolane. I will return at 3 months and 1 day for the cortisone again. Definitely not Durolane again in 6 months. Maybe try Synvisc's version instead since I can't have surgery until I lose more weight."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "Idea: I received Durolane injections in both hips last Thursday. The injections themselves weren't that painful, but the aftereffects have been. I've been practically crippled, cannot walk without severe pain (more so than I had before the injections). It's been 5 days. I'm praying it'll just take time. Also, my insurance company (Sunlife) did not cover this, and the injections were $600 CAD per hip... very expensive :("

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "I got a Durolane injection in both knees. When the anesthetic wore off, I endured the worst pain, like sharp knives in burning, hot knees. Very sharp pain that the Voltaren didn't help at all. I couldn't walk at all; getting up and down was excruciating. This unbearable pain lasted 2 weeks; it's been a month now, and I am still in pain. I wish I had read these reviews. The only thing left to do is double knee replacement surgery with no painkillers. The third alternative is a permanent wheelchair."

For Osteoarthritis "Had sodium hyaluronate injected in both knees on May 3, 2021. I still can't walk because of severe pain/swelling in both knees. Can't get any answers and can't get any kind of help with pain pills to get me through this. Impossible to go to the bathroom if you can't bend knees to sit down. And I only had the first series of the three injections I was supposed to have. I'm 80 years old and sorry I ever did this. Have to use a walker now. I'll never be the same. Can't understand why it affected me so badly. Think twice before taking these injections."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "Had all 3 injections outside of left knee 3 months ago. I've had severe pain on the inside of the same knee since shots. Would not do again. Pain never goes away."

Sodium hyaluronate for Osteoarthritis "Euflexxa was a waste of my time. I had 3 injections, one every week. I did have some relief from the pain, but I still have pain some days worse than others. It's been 3 months now, and I have to do something else. I had the Synvisc about 8 years ago, and that worked good till now, it's starting to hurt, so I am now in a pickle with both knees. The problem with Synvisc is that it is horrific pain going in. But it only takes a short time. I would rather endure that pain and have it help and eventually be pain-free than this Euflexxa that gives only little relief. I still have to take over-the-counter pain meds to my disappointment. But I try to take them every other day."
