For High Cholesterol "I took every medicine known to man for my cholesterol and had very bad side effects, including not being able to walk at all. I started taking simvastatin about a year ago as a last resort, and I love it. I have had no side effects, and I can actually walk with no problems."

For High Cholesterol "It was prescribed by my GP because of the high cholesterol. I started taking it last night, my first ever pill, 10mg. I started experiencing a burning chest, and I was feeling kind of funny. It wasn’t a good feeling as I was struggling to sleep too. Woke up with a burning chest since the pill is still in my system. I’m going to see a different doctor and explain the symptoms. Surely there’s something I can replace the simvastatin 10mg with. Otherwise, I’m on a serious diet to try to lower it."

For Hyperlipoproteinemia Type IIa, Elevated LDL "Age 51, have been on it at 20 mg daily for 10 years. Have had good cholesterol numbers and no side effects at all. Went off and retested - cholesterol, LDL was off the charts, so going right back on it. While off, didn't notice any changes or improvements in pain, etc. It gets an A from me."

For High Cholesterol, Familial Homozygous "Statins made me crave fatty foods, pot roast, bratwurst, butter, as well as other high-fat foods (and dark sodas like root beer-bad for kidneys). NO STATIN lowered my genetically high cholesterol, I am of half Mediterranean descent. I was on 40 mg simvastatin for about 10 years, the doctor switched me to 40 mg atorvastatin about a year ago, for about 2 weeks, but too many side effects including collapsing and massive confusion, so he switched me to 80 mg pravastatin for about 4.5 months. None lowered my cholesterol! Then I started 500 mg niacin and 1 tablespoon Metamucil late in the day, and my cholesterol went from 300 to 200 in 1 month. My doctor made me start 20 mg simvastatin again, but it never lowered anything. All statins caused me so much pain, confusion, depression, cramping hands, legs, itching plaque skin, blurred vision, hearing loss, tiredness, and more, BUT NONE LOWERED MY CHOLESTEROL. I have been statin-free for about 3 weeks, and all my side effects are going away. I have energy and happiness again."

Simvastatin for High Cholesterol "I was prescribed simvastatin and took it daily for 3 years. I have been diagnosed with a condition 'Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome' back in 2007. I have been on Nexium for that diagnosis, and due to high blood pressure, I take metoprolol and lisinopril and have been since 2013. 2015 is when I was prescribed simvastatin (Zocor) for high cholesterol. Before the Zocor, I was only having a CVS episode approximately every 2 to 3 months, and the episode would only be for 2 to 3 days. After the Zocor, I was having CVS episodes almost every month, and they were so bad I would have to go to the hospital and would need fluids. I would be in the hospital about 5 to 7 days. In 2018, I lost my job for being absent due to illness so often and lost my insurance as well. So I made a decision to only get the medicines I needed most. I stopped the Zocor, and about 3 weeks later I stopped having CVS episodes so often, they are now down to about 2 a year, and I haven't been to the hospital since."

For High Cholesterol "So I was a STEMI, and after stent insertion, I was put on Simvastatin. I have been taking it for almost 18 months. Over the last couple of months, I began developing pain in my hips, thighs, and knees, with some lower back pain. I thought perhaps it could be sciatica. I saw a cardiologist a week ago and talked about the pain. He said it is highly likely it is Simvastatin. He said to stop it for 3-5 days, go back on, and report how I felt to him. Well, day 2 off, the pain was almost gone. Day 3, pain completely gone. I asked the doctor why after all this time. It can build up in your system. So, day 3 back on Simvastatin, and pain is slowly returning to my knees and hips. He is talking about injectable Repatha (not sure if I can afford that). My cholesterol was great. Right where he wanted it to be."

Simvastatin for High Cholesterol "A common problem encountered in enteral feeding (feeding tube) is clogging the tube as a result of particles of solid medications not being ground sufficiently to pass through the small openings at the base of the tube. The worst culprit is the statin drugs, such as atorvastatin. With the use of an oral suspension such as FloLipid, an expensive trip to the emergency room and removal and replacement - along with X-ray to confirm proper placement - can be avoided. Since using FloLipid, we have had no such events. It's been a Godsend."

For High Cholesterol "I have high cholesterol and atherosclerosis and was put on statins. Unfortunately, I can't seem to tolerate any, they all make me horrendously nauseous. I switched to niacin tablets. I can't go through life feeling sick to my stomach every day. As soon as I stopped taking them, I had no more nausea. I cannot tell you how horrendous I felt on them, it was like having a permanent stomach bug, awful. I know most people don't get nausea with statins, but, well, I did, so you're lucky if you can tolerate them."

For High Cholesterol "Emergency angioplasty on June 19th - 56-year-young woman, LDL was 150. 6 weeks on Simvastatin 40 mg before bed, stopped all butter, changed to Smart Balance, 80-100 oz water daily, lost 15 lbs, LDL is 54. WOW. On other medicines, so really can't tell if any side effects are associated with Simvastatin, but great results."

For High Cholesterol "Took generic simvastatin for 10 days. Lowered my cholesterol by 60 points from 200 to 140. Had to stop taking it, though, because of muscle pain side effects. Taking Crestor now for 5 days. No side effects so far. Wish there was a generic."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I started taking Simvastatin in 2005 after an angina attack and developed very late appearing side effects. 1. Muscle weakness affecting the piriformis muscle, causing back pain from 2016. 2. Spots of dry, flaky skin on thighs and back from 2018. 3. Breathing problems in September 2019, resulting in a damaged left lung. In 2022, the lung started to ache at times. 4. Low platelet count in January 2020, resulting in bleeding and a stay in the hospital. A variety of treatments were tried, including steroids and platelet infusion, followed by 4 more occurrences of low platelet count and bleeding between April and June 2022. Stopped taking Simvastatin on June 10, 2022, back pain gone, platelet count going up, dry skin spots improving, breathing improving, and no lung pain."

For High Cholesterol "I've been on simvastatin for about a month. I have experienced foot and leg cramps, mostly at night, sleepless nights, maybe some memory issues, back and chest pain. I just spent several days in the hospital because of chest pain, which I had never experienced before. When I had upper right severe back pain (not spinal), I was also very lightheaded, and my legs stayed quite weak for over two days. I believe I'll work on my diet, stop the simvastatin, and pray that the Lord grants me the wisdom to care for my body in a reasonable manner. I'm 81 and not too shabby physically."

For Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease "I have been taking simvastatin per request of my endocrinologist for a while. I am a lifelong sufferer of psoriasis and thought for some time it had gotten worse. It got to the point where the itching, burning, skin cracking, and bleeding were so bad I would wake up at night unable to sleep. I took antihistamines, meds for the pain, and more. I altered my diet and did all I could think of to get it to stop. Other symptoms were that I had diarrhea-explosive at times-fatigue, ears filled with liquid, and more. I finally thought about looking up my meds and seeing what the side effects are. I stopped taking the simvastatin and within 2 days the rash began to heal around my neck. The goo behind my ears began to grow less. (I was having my hair stuck in goo most mornings.) I am not going to take it anymore. My fatigue is getting better. I truly believe I am allergic to this medicine. I cannot live like that. I will risk what it was supposed to help deter."

For High Cholesterol "I’m 53 and was recently started on cholesterol-lowering medication because my cholesterol numbers were increasing. Started on Lipitor first, and that lasted about 2 weeks, and it felt like I had the flu for 2 weeks straight. The doctor then started me on Simvastatin 10 mg, and I had no side effects for 2 1/2 months. However, for the past 3 weeks, I’ve had extreme fatigue and forearm muscle pain, worse in the left arm. I don’t know if side effects can show up later with this medication, but I’m beginning to wonder if that’s what’s causing it. I have gotten no relief from NSAIDs."

For High Cholesterol "I have been taking simvastatin 10 mg for high cholesterol. I haven't had any side effects yet and hope this continues. I was advised to take it every day, but if I experienced any side effects, to take one tablet every other day, as that can be as efficient as one a day and better than not taking any at all. Be cautious if you are given higher doses, as they come with more side effects."

For High Cholesterol "I was taking simvastatin 10 mg for six months, my cholesterol went up slightly. I also had a spike in fasting glucose. I don't have diabetes. I said it to my doctor, he wanted to give me 40 mg. No thanks. Get more blood work in three months, cholesterol 5.8."

For High Cholesterol "I've been using simvastatin (generic brand manufactured by Lupin) for 2 1/2 years. Taking only 10 mg/day has reduced my total cholesterol from 215 to 175. It has had no side effects that I am aware of. Of course, I'm taking a very low dose. It has not caused my joints to hurt, but I also take 100 mg of CoQ10/day, and I'm not sure how much that contributes to the lack of pain. I suggest taking the lowest dose that works for you."

For High Cholesterol "Original total cholesterol value was 237. Prescribed 10 mg of Crestor and had stomach cramps. Two weeks later, prescribed 10 mg of simvastatin. After 3 months, a recent blood test revealed a total cholesterol value of 139. No side effects and all other blood test results were at normal levels. Works for me."
