"DO NOT TAKE RISPERDAL. I was prescribed 3 mg of Risperdal after displaying psychotic symptoms induced by a weed addiction. I stayed on the medication for 4 months, my dose got as high as 5 mg for one month. It made me feel lethargic, emotionally unavailable, and in a fog. It did not help me with any of the symptoms it was prescribed for except sleep. I kept on a strict diet and didn't gain a single pound (I actually lost some weight). But despite not gaining a pound, this drug caused my face and cheeks to swell up with fat, and now I look like a squirrel. The fat just won't go away. I don't recognize myself in the mirror anymore. This drug does awful unnatural things to the body. My psychiatrist told me the weight gain isn't permanent, guess he's wrong. I'm living proof that some of the fat is inescapable and permanent. Wish it wasn't in my face."

"The drug risperidone treated my delusions and hallucinations well, however, the side effects are awful. My cognitive thoughts were impaired, making it hard to read and think straight (which can be induced by schizophrenia itself). It made me VERY constipated, where I'd have to take Miralax almost every day to have a normal bowel movement. It caused me to have blurry vision and made it harder for my eyes to focus on something. As a male, it caused me to grow breasts and lactate. I'm not fond of the side effects, but the drug did work well on treating my schizophrenia."

"I can't lose any weight on this medication. I hate it. This manufacturer should make a medication with a weight loss additive in it. Some poor people want to lose weight, this medication makes it impossible."

"Had psychosis 2 months ago. Was started on Risperidone, it helped resolve delusions within a few weeks. Also prescribed lithium simultaneously. Started noticing side effects after 7 weeks on both, including mental uneasiness and restlessness. Dr. said to wean off both, so went from 2 to 1 mg Risperidone. Had bad withdrawals from 1 to .5 mg, so holding for now."

"Risperidone reduced delusional thoughts by 50%. Still had rampant hallucinations and paranoia. At least it made me able to walk into public. Turns you into a log, though, with that zombie metal heavy sedation."

"So I started taking the medication 2 years ago. In the beginning, it helps well with hallucinations, paranoid thoughts, and delusions. But it changes your whole brain chemistry. Well, I have always been emotionless, but now I really don’t care about anything. It causes me to feel like a zombie and causes me to be tired. My sex drive is normal. It causes breast milk and weight gain, but I exercise now, so the 40 pounds I gained are gone. And I’m sad because I wanted to gain weight. It causes anxiety, tremors, and causes me to move around a lot. I am different, I used to be so happy, now I’m not at all. It also makes me drowsy. I think about the past a lot and feel as if life is passing me by because of the brain fog. I am 21 and hope to get off of it by the time I’m 23. But the withdrawal effects make me worrisome. I also don’t want the psychosis to come back, but I think I’m good and can control and recognize it. I miss the old me so much, man. I’d give anything to go back."

"I was hearing voices, then I went in a hospital for nearly two weeks. I was out on forced medication, which they cannot do anything to my body without me allowing it. When I was on it, my jaw started locking open and went way farther than it should go. My jaw was sore for a couple of days. This reaction of my jaw extending lasted for what seemed like 30 minutes as I waited for the benztropine or whatever it's called, I was told it's an allergy medicine. While my jaw was getting messed up, my neck started stretching side to side as far as it could go and getting stuck there. After I was out of the hospital, I realized my neck pain came back from my car accident but a lot worse. The side of my neck began to hurt when I would breathe the most, and just living it hurt a lot. I recommend saying no to forced medication."

"Was prescribed this for schizophrenia. It took away psychotic symptoms, yes, but had horrible side effects to begin with, and I put on nearly 7 stone because of this drug. And I've had slurred, stuttered speech ever since taking it. I really want to come off this medication but fear becoming ill again for my family's sake. Been on it for nearly 3 years now. I'm on a fortnightly injection. I have also been given this drug in tablet form to treat anxiety before, didn't really do anything for me, felt no obvious change to feelings. Something like zolpidem (yes, I'm aware it's sleeping medication) really makes me feel more relaxed and at ease, that's what I want out of anti-anxiety medication. So, anxiety-wise, I think it's pretty rubbish."

"On risperidone since one and a half years. Was started on it because of my psychotic depression. I was having thoughts of becoming a monk. I feel good, my depression had gone after taking risperidone for about a few months. But my thoughts of renunciation aren’t going. My doctor currently prescribed me haloperidol, which I haven't started yet. I home read somewhere that risperidone works better on negative symptoms than positive symptoms. Now let's see how these symptoms improve after I start on haloperidol. Side effects - I was having loss of balance."

"I've been taking risperidone for a long time, and I say it's great. This medication puts me to sleep for 6 hours, then I fall back asleep at 2 am to 5 am. My doctor prescribed me this medication for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. She doesn't really answer my questions, though. She suggested I take this medication for a lifelong duration to help my delusions and hallucinations. I sometimes feel like someone is grabbing my hand. The last time when I was in Hawaii, I saw the scariest looking thing I ever saw and hid under my bed. Then something flew into my hand that forced me to grab, I couldn't see for myself what it was, and I'm not sure, and it was gone in about a minute. Glad it never happened again, because I don't want creepy things happening to me. Guys, eat healthy, because you know what the cost is."

"I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia 25 yrs ago and was taking clozapine 75 mg since. The only side effect was that I felt discontinuity in thoughts, laziness in mind, and irritability. For the last 2 yrs, I am on Scizodon 1 mg (risperidone) in addition to my clozapine dosage, and from the very next day, all my negativity vanished, my anger disappeared, I have clarity and continuity of thought and calmness. I am a lot happier now, I can say."

"I had really low blood pressure with risperidone. It also causes me to rock back and forth a lot. It sure does shut me up, though I get really paranoid someone wants to hurt me. I noticed it calms me down enough to go hide in the bathroom quietly without disturbing the neighbors. I block the door with my refrigerator and watch these cool movies on YouTube."

"Well, my experience with risperidone has not been quite great, in fact, it's made life lifeless. I can't really feel my emotions right. My drive for doing basic things, like taking care of myself, is gone, and so is my sex drive. I am having a lot of trouble concentrating and thinking with this crazy mind fog that won't go away. I have to pee all the time now, and my #2 work is always so hard now. It is either most of the time constipation, or sometimes a runny explosion, never just normal stools anymore. When I eat, I sometimes feel like choking, so when that happens, I have to swallow another way. My vision is getting so blurry as well. I don't like going out, and I don't like phones now, too. Talking to people became really hard, too. A lot of the time, when I try to think of anything, it all comes out foggy, or I simply can't think a single thing, before, I never had this problem. I know this is used for some people who might actually need it, but I was misdiagnosed, I think, personally. I had a 'minor manic episode,' stress-induced."

"I have been on the drug for two years. In the beginning, I felt tired, but after one and a half years, I began to feel much better. The problem with this medication is that it makes you tired and lazy, especially in the morning. The good part is that it gives good sleep and controls the mind. The beginning was very hard as I was dealing with all the hallucinations I had been experiencing since I had consumed marijuana and smelled glue from plastic packets during my teenage years. Please stay with this drug as long as the doctor tells you. And take it at the same time every day. It is very important to take it at the same time every day. Please do this."

Risperidone "I have taken Risperidone for at least 8 years for schizophrenia. When I first started taking it, I noticed it made my symptoms a lot better. However, it wasn't a cure-all, and I still heard the voices, but in a more muffled manner. The visions and visual hallucinations, like lasers floating in the air, went away, too. It also seemed like, despite being on Risperidone or any other antipsychotic, my symptoms were dependent on my external behavior. As far as side effects go, I drool pretty badly at night. It also kind of made me look at things as being pointless. It's hard to know whether it's my schizophrenia or Risperidone that is causing me problems, I've been on it so long. Overall, it was great for taking away the hallucinations, it just kind of made me a shell of my former self (or was that the schizophrenia), who knows."

"Definitely contributed to stopping an ongoing psychosis in my case. So that is good. However, the doses have a significant sedative effect that can easily change your life. Potentially, the appetite increase that lasts for the first month can also cause some problems with weight gain. The worst was the drug did contribute to temporary sterilization (zero secretion of absolutely anything during orgasm, apparently as a result of the effect on my prolactin levels, this lasted until I switched meds)."

Risperidone "From the first day of the injection, I've noticed I've been able to complete tasks that might have seemed so big in the past. I am feeling calm, living in the present and not feeling worried anymore. I've been able to take the time and get tasks done. It seems like this was the right choice of medicine."

"I started this drug 3 years ago for my paranoia and anger issues. Overall, it's good except for the weight gain. I started at 125 lb and I am 145 lb. I take 1 mg because taking 2 mg made me really tired, but going down on the dose works best in combination with Lamictal and Prozac. I've tried other medicines, but these work well together."
