"This was the first AAP I was on. It worked really quickly (within a month). But it had serious side effects, worst of all being significant weight gain. I gained about 12kg on it. It also made me sleep a lot more. If it weren't for the weight gain, it's a great AAP."

"For me, it made my brain function slow down which made my issues worse. It made it harder to think and I was just mentally slower. It gave me energy but not in a good way. The energy combined with slowed brain function made me want to stop taking medication all together. I wouldn't take this ever again. I took thee pill form."

"I gained 28kg on Risperidone and needed to switch medication and start a raw food diet to lose weight. Other side effects included extreme lethargy and high prolactin, amongst others. I am now on Paliperidone (a derivative of Risperidone) and have gained weight on an increased dose. Risperidone was worse for me than a low dose of Paliperidone."

"I was on Risperidone/Risperdal for a little over a month and it made me very lethargic, made my eyes roll, increased my appetite and I gained a LOT of weight (close to 15 kg). It did make my auditory hallucinations go away and made me indifferent to the voices in my head but it was not the best fit for me."

"risperidone reduced delusional thoughts by 50%. Still had rampant hallucinations, and paranoia. At least it made me able to walk into the public. Turns you into a log though with that zombie metal heavy sedation."

"Before taking resperidone I was taking olanzapine and clopixol which never did much for my mental health and I gained so much weight I was having delusions could not control my behaviour and having paranoid thoughts all the time. Since I have been taking this medicine 2mg a day I have been feeling like a new person it's literally amazing life is now feeling great I still have a episode now and then but it's a lot more rare and not as intense I am able to handle it better in a way it has saved my life. No side affects no weight gain"

"I can't lose any weight on this medication. I hate it. This manufacturer should make a medication with a weight loss additive in it. Some poor people want to lose weight, this medication makes it impossible."

"I was 21 years old when I took Risperdal. 3 months later I had weight gain and uncontrolled full body tremor. I was in hospital then. It was an extrapyramidal side effects to me. My doctor gave me Seroquel XR and I felt myself much better, but I have side effects too."

"So I started taking the medication 2 years ago. In the beginning it helps well with hallucinations, paranoid thoughts, and delusions. But it changes your whole brain chemistry, well I always been emotionless but now I really don’t care about anything. It causes me to feel like a zombie and causes me to be tired. My sex drive is normal. It causes breast milk and weight gain but I exercise now so the 40 pounds I gained is gone. And I’m sad because I wanted to gain weight. It causes anxiety tremors and causes me to move around a lot. I am different I used to be so happy now I’m not at all. It also makes me drowsy. I think about the past a lot and feel as if life is passing me by, because of the brain fog. I am 21 and hope to get off of it by the time I’m 23. But the withdrawal effects makes me worrisome I also don’t want the psychosis to come back but I think I’m good and can control and recognize it. I miss the old me so much man. I’d give anything to go back."

" So I took risperdone to help with my psychosis when I was 14. It worked wonders with helping me with my hallucinations.I did have a bad experience with one of the side effects. I am female and my breast increased size and started making and producing breast milk. I had to stop the medication because if it and it was The only medication that I found that helped. I was only on the medication for 10 days but, it worked amazing."

"I was first prescribed Risperidone to treat me hearing things and seeing things. I have been on and off of it for years. I try to take it, but feel it causes more side effects than any good. It made me gain weight, but the wrong kinda weight. I can't really tell after all these years if it really helped or not."

"I took this for a short while in early 2017 when I was 15 for bipolar, schizophrenia and irritability. They gave it to me at school and I felt awful! It made me insanely sleepy first of all I would randomly fall asleep at the weirdest times and even when I was walking which was freaking dangerous. I gained 38 lbs and my akathisia was so terrible on this that I would hyperventilate, scream, speak gibberish, couldn’t sit still and my mind would race, they gave me Ativan to calm me down. I stopped cold turkey. 1/10"

"My conditions are schizophrenia, chronic depression, autism, anxiety, bpd, hpd, tourette’s. This medication made me extremely sick and I could not get off it for weeks due to me being too sick to go to the doctors. After me finally getting off it it took me about a month to stop feeling sick and for the other side effects to go away. Overall it was not worth it"

"I feel like I’m back to myself when taking this medication. Please note, I’ve only been taking for a week but my head does not feel as busy with static and voices, which was my main issue. It also chills me out somewhat, even on a low dosage. I seriously hope the side effects aren’t as bad as what some people are suggesting but as of now I feel back to baseline and it has done the trick."

"The drug risperidone treated my delusions and hallucinations well, however, the side effects are awful. My cognitive thoughts were impaired making it hard to read and think straight (which can be induced by schizophrenia itself), it made me VERY constipated where I'd have to take miralax almost every day to have a normal bowel movement, it caused me to have blurry vision and made it harder for my eyes to focus on something and as a male it caused me to grow breasts and lactate. I'm not fond of the side effects but the drug did work well on treating my schizophrenia."

Risperdal (risperidone) "Took this for psychotic depression. It made me unnaturally tired, like I was fighting the effects of a sleep medication all the time! I also started overeating and was constantly hungry (like with Zyprexa). I did feel less anxious, but it wasn't worth it. Wouldn't recommend based on my experience. One note if you're autistic like me - some people report being more sensitive to side effects. It was complete news to me, but makes sense with my history."

"I have been on the drug for two years. In the beginning I felt tired but after one-and-a-half years I began to feel much better. The problem with this medication is that it makes you tired and lazy, especially in the morning. The good part is that it gives good sleep and controls the mind. The beginning was very hard as I was dealing with all the hallucinations I had been experiencing since I had consumed marijuana and smelt glue from plastic packets during my teenage years. Please stay with this drug as long as the doctor tells you. And take it at the SAME TIME every day. It is very important to take it at the same time every day. Please do this."

"I took this medicine for schizuphrenia. Started with 1mg, now taking 3mg regularly for more than three months. It really helped me with the voices. I gained about 5lbs in 3 months which is probably this medicines side effect. Also, I am now suffering from a condition called morning depression. Hope I come out of it soon!"

"I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia 25yrs ago and was taking clozapine 75mg since. The only side effect was that I felt discontinuity in thoughts, laziness in mind and irritability. For the last 2 yrs I am on scizodon 1mg (resperidone) in addition to my clozapine dosage, and from the very next day all my negativity vanished, my anger disappeared, I have clarity and continuity of thought and calmness. I am a lot happy now I can say."

"Was good when the voices were loud as when they are quietened they seem to echo at first. Noticed when taking it though voices did remain very quietly then when you stop taking it they stop completely. But I have done this before and the bliss only lasts a month before they come back full blown."

"DO NOT TAKE RISPERDAL. I was prescribed 3 mg of risperdal after displaying psychotic symptoms induced by a weed addiction. I stayed on the medication for 4 months, my dose got as high as 5mg for one month. It made me feel lethargic, emotionally unavailable, and in a fog. It did not help me with any of the symptoms it was prescribed for except sleep. I kept on a strict diet and didn't gain a single pound (I actually lost some weight). But despite not gaining a pound this drug caused my face and cheeks to swell up with fat and now I look like a squirrel. The fat just won't go away. I don't recognize myself in the mirror anymore. This drug does awful unnatural things to the body. My psychiatrist told me the weight gain isn't permanent, guess he's wrong, I'm living proof that some of the fat is inescapable and permanent. Wish it wasn't in my face."
