Risperidone "I have used Risperdal several times over the last few years. Originally, I was taking it for ruminating thoughts (I call it busy head) and difficulty sleeping. It definitely helped slow down my thoughts and allowed me to sleep better. After my son was born, I was having some postpartum depression and went back on Risperdal. It helped with the kindling and agitation, but I did gain about 10-15 pounds on it. When I stopped the medication, the weight fell off. Most recently, I'm using it as an adjunct therapy to Neurontin and Trileptal for agitation and anxiety. I have emetophobia, and this has been the only thing that has allowed me to be around my phobia and not have a panic attack and an ER visit. I do not like the weight gain."

Risperidone "This medicine helps with my schizophrenia, calms me down, but that's about it. But the worst things about it are the freaking side effects! Look, I took this medicine in first grade for irritability, took it again in middle school. Now I'm 20 and started back up again a few months ago. It makes me so sleepy that I'm falling into things, I get severe panic attacks, and I'm hungry as hell, hence, why I gained 11 lbs. Oh, and I have this funny, unbearable feeling in my right leg, and it's so uncomfortable, omg! But on the other hand, it's not as bad as Latuda or Haldol, but it's worth it, I guess."

Risperidone "I got put on this medication for psychosis, delusions in December of 2017. I started at 0.5 mg and slowly raised to 3 mg. So far, this is a decent drug. I feel like the way I was before my psychotic episodes began, and it's very nice. The downside is high prolactin levels and slight weight gain (roughly 10 lbs). My doctor and I are in the process of getting off of it (currently at 2 mg), but this drug did the trick to placate delusions. I would recommend but not for long term."

Risperidone "This drug is like all antipsychotics, it's a crime! And more than that, they forgot to label one of the worst side effects of it, which is apnea (difficulty breathing). That's because they never tried one pill! Because every time they do RCTs for these types of drugs, most of the subjects leave early before continuing the studies!"

Risperidone "This drug did not react well with my body chemistry, but I didn't have any delusions on it or for 4 years afterward. I gained over 120 lbs in a year and a few months on it. I slept about 14 hours a day. It made me apathetic, not a normal trait for me. I just didn't care about things. I stopped having my period and developed a lot of symptoms of metabolic syndrome. Oh, I had major carb cravings, like for fast food pizza, that I never usually have. I didn't feel like myself. I have been diagnosed with different things but believe I have major depression with psychotic features."

"Risperidone is not worth the overall sadness it caused me. I am always fighting with my weight and struggle as I have no motivation and feel lazy and just struggle with basic stuff. I still see and hear things that are not there, and my body aches all the time."

"My brother is on this medication, and it changed his life. When he is compliant (2 mg each night), he is fully functional again. When he stops, he gradually declines until it becomes almost impossible to convince him that he needs the medication to be able to live. It's sad to see so many people focus on the side effects when those things can be controlled and treated - better to experience the minimal side effects than letting your brain get damaged by the illness."

"This medication was given to me after a stay in the hospital for first-time psychosis at the age of 39. I went off of it to go on Abilify. Huge mistake. Now, 3 years later (and almost 5 different antipsychotics), I have come back to it. I get tactile hallucinations where I feel bugs or animals on myself, and risperidone helps keep that away. Thank goodness because that can be frightening."

Risperidone "I find it helps in terms of what I wanted with the voices and all, but the side effects make me very drowsy and tired, and I can barely muster the energy to do anything in my day. My mood's been pretty low or up and down too. I find myself to still have a slight paranoia of others. Even when I first started the meds, the first few times I believed I was being poisoned, but I usually felt like everyone offering me drinks or food was trying to harm me, so not really anything new there. That part has calmed down a fair bit. I hope one day they can find a way to completely rid me of this so I don't have to rely on medications all the time, because I sometimes forget to take them or I can't find them on occasion. I'm glad I'm back on them, though, after I was initially told by the mental hospital that I'm not to have them anymore, which mucked me up. I hope I'm not forced to stop again, because this is honestly my peace."

"It does absolutely nothing to help with hearing voices. It makes you eat too much, and it's honestly making me psychotic and delusional. But who knows, it might be because I'm schizophrenic. It doesn't help at all, I don't like it. I need something stronger to help with hearing voices."

Risperidone "19 years old, using 2 ml instead of 3 1/2 ml and actually 4 ml was initially prescribed by a psychiatrist. It was because I was hearing voices and was paranoid and smoking marijuana almost every day for a period of 6 months. I got side effects: stiffness, spasms, trembling, increase in saliva, decrease in sexual ability. I have been taking now 1 pill every other day until I don't take it anymore since the doctor said that I had to take it at least for a year without smoking to find out if the problem goes away. I'm looking for another pill to control these symptoms, and I am not smoking or hearing voices anymore. Read all the comments, but I do not constipate or gain weight. Since I lowered the dose, I am more sociable, smile, and confident, but the spasms worry me since they happen like 3 or 4 times a day."

"Sandoz is great because I quit getting the weird anxiety after being on Sandoz that I had with other risperidone brands. Let me explain myself. I had a type of anxiety with other risperidone brands. At times I felt like repeating words that others said in conversations. I became a weird person. One time when I didn't say good morning to a neighbor outside next door to me, I had obsessive anxiety about this event and went to the neighbor's home to apologize. Thank goodness for Sandoz. My theory is that there's additional rubbish in other brands."

"I had a period of psychosis, and I started taking risperidone last March, and I haven't had any relapses. I have gained a couple of pounds, I am worried that I also feel emotionally flat. Don't know if I should try 1 mg instead of 2 mg or eventually wean off out of fear of a horrible relapse that would ruin everything. I felt anxiety increase at doses higher, up to 6 mg. Still suffer from anxiety and worry over basically everything."

Risperidone "I believe after taking this, I stopped thinking well. I took it as an injection. It caused some sort of anxiety and made me think of my past. It cleared up some parts of thinking, but after the Dr. prescribed this, I can't tell if it left permanent damage."

Risperidone "Risperdal Consta is pretty good. I've been on it for a year and two months, and I think it's much better than Invega Sustenna by far. Risperdal makes me calm, focused, and maybe even energized, but in a very in-control-of-myself way."

"I am now thinking that after 15 years of being on Risperidone, it might actually be the cause of all my weight gain. Don't get me wrong, I always had a weight problem before the pills, but thinking about it, I have gone from 120 kg to now a whopping 240 kg. There must be some hope for me, I will try a high-protein diet. It's like I always have the munchies, and my mouth always craves food. I am on 2 mg a day, if that helps."

"I was diagnosed with schizophrenia 11 years ago. Symptoms completely recovered within 2 weeks: flat emotional affect, low energy, the feeling of the brain swelling, tactile hallucinations, poor appetite, irritability, paranoia, delusions, and an overdrive in fight or flight response. Symptoms greatly improved to a functional level within 1-2 months: auditory hallucinations, visual hallucinations, cognitive impairment, and poor memory. 1 mg both as a teenager and as an adult. I have been able to function again. Also, my work and social life have recovered. I have had no negative side effects besides minor drowsiness and sedation for the first couple of days taking the medication."

"Avoid at all costs. I ended up with some brain damage, less emotion, and a lowered sex drive. Terrible medication. Don't let any doctor prescribe anything for your brain. You only have 1 brain and it's a risk doing that to begin with. It probably made my episodes worse at one point."

"I was on Risperidone for 5 weeks, the first 2 weeks were a struggle, but by the end of the month, it had really tackled my anxiety and hallucinations. It did make my paranoia really bad for a week, but apart from that, I was starting to feel okay again. I had to stop as I started to lactate, and as a 20-year-old, I found it quite distressing, so I was swapped to aripiprazole. I hope this one works as well as Risperidone did!"

"For me, it made my brain function slow down, which made my issues worse. It made it harder to think, and I was just mentally slower. It gave me energy, but not in a good way. The energy combined with slowed brain function made me want to stop taking medication altogether. I wouldn't take this ever again. I took the pill form."

"I've come to say that this medicine destroyed my life. When I had just turned 12, I was put on this medication for early onset paranoid schizophrenia. When I started the medication, I weighed 110 pounds. I loved my body and had so much confidence in that aspect.... Within 6 months on the medication, I hit 180, and at age 13, I weighed 310 pounds. I had developed an eating disorder. I'm 16 now and have lost almost 100 pounds, but am still not where I was at 12, even though I'm the same height. I honestly don't remember very much from when I was on the medication, but according to my family, my speech was slurred, I couldn't stay awake, and I often slept from 8 pm at night until 2:00 the next afternoon, only waking up to take my morning dose and go back to bed. I developed tics when I was awake, and I still rock back and forth constantly. Please, PLEASE KEEP YOUR ADOLESCENT CHILDREN OFF THIS MEDICATION."

"I was on this medication for 4 years. It does work, but the weight gain is bad. I gained 125 pounds in 4 years. The doctor never said anything. I went in and told him to switch medications. The new medication is really expensive, but I lost 40 pounds in 6 months. Do not take cheap generic drugs."

Risperidone "This was the medication. I grew painful chest feelings. I still pace all day. My libido made me feel asexual and more. It kept me just laying on the floor in anxious, depressive pain, waiting for a minute to get up. I overate on this drug, and at the time it was the only medication. I spent almost four years laying down because I didn't think another medicine I could afford would be out. I was so worried about trying Seroquel, however, due to the weight gain and diabetes thing. But since I've stopped monitoring my weight (which I believe more doctors should provide therapy for the weight gain and body image issues), and I got on Seroquel, things are better. At the time Seroquel was thought to be not as strong. We will see if it holds up, but much better medications have come out. Also, I think Risperdal prolonged a mood problem for me, that might be why I spent 3 years in bed waiting for it to improve. When they threaten the Invega shot, I get worried because forcing this med to last long."

"Risperidone has been awful for my schizophrenia. I have thought broadcasting, where other people around me can hear my thoughts. After using risperidone 1-1.5 mg, I now have telepathy, which is making my life really difficult. People can now insult me over really long distances by putting their thoughts in my brain. I have telepathy with friends and family, but they are often not nice, and I would rather not be connected with them all the time. Risperidone has made my condition worse, and I now have more than 1 Schneider First Rank Symptom of schizophrenia."
