For Anxiety "I had a severe migraine for 2 days. I was in so much pain I had blurred vision and nausea. Tried to take my prescribed PRN migraine medicine, but I threw up. The ER nurse gave me pain meds and fluids in my IV, as well as steroids. She came back and said the doctor had ordered Benadryl and Compazine for me. I asked what it was, I have always been given Zofran. She stated it would help with the nausea. She added the syringe of Compazine to my 1000 ml bag of saline. But she did not mix it, the bag was already hanging. I do believe I got a much larger amount administered at one time because of how she added it to the hanging bag. Within 5-10 minutes, I was panicking, couldn't sit still, but I was too dizzy to stand. I tried ripping the IV out, crying at my husband that we needed to leave. I couldn't explain why I was upset or answer his questions other than I needed to go/get out. The IV needed out. The nurse came and stopped the IV. Took 30 minutes for the panic, terror, and confusion to pass."

For Anxiety "I went to the doctor's May 23rd, 2022. I was seen at the ER at the hospital. I went for head pressure, and I told them I haven’t been feeling like myself lately. So they took me back and gave me this, and they told me they were giving me a little Benadryl to take the pressure away from my head. But the whole time they gave me Benadryl and Compazine without me knowing. So 10 minutes later, the meds started kicking in really fast. I got really hot and started panicking, ready to jump out of the bed and run away. The nurse came in laughing, asking me if I felt like my skin was leaving my body. I told her yes and started crying. She was like, 'You're fine,' and put a cold napkin around my neck. I still was panicking, ready to pull my hair out. Hours later, when it was time for me to leave, I told them I felt like I was going to open the car door on the way home. So they kept me a little longer and gave me another IV to help drain the meds out of me. I still was shaky and anxious, and I couldn’t stop moving. I felt like I was losing my mind."

For Anxiety "I went into the emergency center for a migraine. I have an anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder. I was given this in an IV and they turned off the light once they left. Within five minutes, I had this horrible rush of anxiety. I immediately sat up, ran to the mirror, and started to breathe. For some reason, when I watch myself doing the breathing exercises for anxiety, it helps me believe that it's a phase and it will pass. After 10 reps, I took the IV off of the stand and ran into the bathroom. Then I ran down the hallway and told someone to get this IV out of my arm right now. The nurse asked me to go to my room. I started to rip out the IV and she immediately stopped me and came to remove it herself. I had to go outside for 20 minutes to remove my mask so that I wouldn't hyperventilate. I was curious about this experience and I wound up here. Needless to say, I'm not alone. I would never, ever get this drug again!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Compazine after surgery for nausea. It made me highly anxious, jittery, high blood pressure, pacing up and down the ward, chest pain, and suicidal ideation. Never again! Should come with a warning from nurses. My nurse actually said it would put me to sleep."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Awful drug. Was given this as part of a “drug cocktail” for vomiting that wouldn’t stop. Just a couple minutes after the nurse put it in my IV, I felt terror like never before. The worst anxiety I’ve ever felt. Couldn’t be still. Jerky movements. I felt like I was coming out of my skin. I literally wanted to rip the IV out and run. My heart rate went up and the nurse was concerned, so the doctor ended up giving me Cogentin, which helped some. It took me days to feel normal again. I now have this on my allergy list. I’m not sure why doctors resort to these “cocktails” for nausea/vomiting instead of giving Zofran. I don’t know why these types of drugs are even still on the market. I understand now why people who suffer from mental illness have a hard time staying on these medications. The side effects are awful."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Compazine, as listed by a lot of people, is an awful drug. I went into the ER with a headache and nausea and was given Benadryl and Compazine via IV in order to quell it. Immediately after the IV went in, I started to feel very anxious and have dark thoughts. All I wanted to do was jump out of the hospital bed and run out. Once I was discharged from the hospital, the side effects did not go away. I felt like I just wanted to be knocked out to help stop this feeling. I cannot even believe I was able to get sleep that night, but thankfully I did. Even though I got sleep, however, it is the next day, and I still feel restless and jittery. It is a lot better now, but I do not know how much longer it will last. DO NOT TAKE COMPAZINE!!!!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I told the ER doctors that I vomit sometimes, they say, "Ah, this medicine will do." I said no, I don't need any, I'll be fine. But still, they put it in my IV. Afterwards, it felt like a nightmare, I just wanted to run away. I never had this much anxiety in my life, it was purely awful. Never, ever take this medicine. I don't even know if I'm okay after taking this medicine, it's the worst ever. Anyone knows when I will be okay?"

For Anxiety "Went to the ER for a headache that wouldn’t go away after a little over a week. Have never had migraines, but apparently that’s what the ER doctors thought I had because they gave me a migraine cocktail consisting of Compazine, diphenhydramine, and methylprednisolone. After getting the Compazine through an IV push, I genuinely thought I was having an allergic reaction. My throat felt tight, and my skin felt hot, and panic set in. But after the Benadryl kicked in, I fell asleep. I woke up with anxiety and realized the “allergic reaction” I had was actually a panic attack. I went for a CT scan afterward, and it was a scary experience being in that tight space with all the residual anxiety I had. The next day, I had insomnia and experienced depersonalization for the first time in years. Very scary, lots of blurred vision and generalized anxiety. Forty-eight hours later, and along with the anxiety, a weird side effect of excessive drooling and saliva. Great, I know. Along with a blank stare."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Someone said they were in a state of psychosis, and that really sums up how I was on this. I was given this drug in the ER, and 15 minutes later I couldn't sit still, I felt like I wanted to rip my skin off and pull my hair out. I wanted to scream and felt like I was on the edge of a complete meltdown. When I got home, I tried to take a hot shower, and I took a Vicodin hoping it would calm me, took Benadryl after hoping to just sleep. It was the worst night I've ever lived through. I kept having urges to jump out of a window or run into traffic. I was desperate for the agony to end. Now I say I'm allergic and refuse to let my children have this medication. They need to pull it."

For Psychosis "This drug should be taken off the market. Went to the ER with a tension headache and was given the migraine cocktail of Benadryl and Compazine. The nurse said it will make me feel “funny” for a few minutes, but it will go away. Within minutes, I was slurring words, could not focus, and my legs were uncontrollably shaking. I screamed for a nurse, she said it was normal. I thought I was going to die. A dose of Ativan was given, but two days later, I am still dealing with effects such as anxiety and restlessness. Never again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER after having a migraine for a week straight. The nurse came in and immediately tried to insert Compazine into my IV when I stopped her and asked what it was. She told me it was for anti-nausea, then said, “We give this for all migraines,” and inserted it into my IV before I could even say no. I was fine for 5 minutes until I walked to the bathroom and immediately knew something was wrong. I could barely remember why I had gone in there in the first place and started having extreme anxiety. I have had anxiety attacks before, but this was completely different. I started freaking out and telling the doctors that I did not feel right. I felt like I needed to crawl out of my body. I was screaming and freaking out and the doctor was not even phased and responded with, “Yeah, this happens sometimes, I’ll give you Benadryl.” The feeling didn’t go away for days. I took 4 Benadryl a day for sanity."

For Anxiety "These experiences listed for this drug are not exaggerated. Had some numbness and headache issues that caused me to visit the ER. Was given a Benadryl, Toradol, and Compazine cocktail for the headaches. After the Toradol wore off, I had the most horrid anxiety. My body would not let me calm down, and my mind wanted to calm down. It was a constant struggle for more than a day to get back to normal. I wanted to rip the IV out and run out of the hospital while I was waiting to get an MRI. It was hands down the worst experience of my life."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER the other day for the worst headache I had ever had in my whole life, and they gave me Compazine along with some other things. I immediately couldn’t breathe. I sat up coughing, feeling like I had to throw up but was unable to. My whole body felt numb, and I kept seeing spots of black. Everything was moving in slow motion. There were too many people around me. My side effects went away after about 8 hours (probably because they gave me so many fluid bags, probably like 6, that I peed three times the most I ever had in my entire life). But yeah, my heart rate hit 153, and then they tried to do an EKG on me because they thought that an otherwise healthy 18-year-old was having a heart attack. Not once during this time did my heart rate fall below 100. According to their notes, it was 124 when I left. I will not be letting someone put this in my body ever again because, while I am not having any more full-blown panic attacks, the anxiety is still high within me."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I had a migraine, had this through an IV with Benadryl, Toradol, and obviously Compazine. Within 5 minutes, I had nausea. I had a panic attack and could barely breathe. I tried to take the BP cuff off. I had anxiety and felt like I couldn't fall asleep. I fell asleep in the hospital bed after 15 minutes of pure torture and slept for 45 minutes. I woke up, barely able to breathe. I got discharged and went back home. The headache was gone, but I felt like I could barely breathe. Some depression was triggered, I wanted to die. I couldn't even take a nap, even after 45 minutes. I couldn't do anything, reading a book was awful, browsing the internet was awful. Side effects wore off after 48 hours. I had the exact same experience next time I had horrible migraines. I wish I just had the migraines."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I had a similar experience to others who have commented here. I was given Compazine via IV after waking up after my sinus surgery to help with the nausea I was experiencing after general anesthesia. Pretty quickly, I had extreme anxiety and a feeling of wanting to jump out of my own skin. I am typically a calm, quiet person, but I was yelling and trying to rip the IV out of my arm. I felt angry and jumpy, something I had never experienced before, and honestly felt like I was losing my mind. I am grateful that my mother, an ICU nurse, was with me and recognized that 'severe agitation' can be a side effect of Compazine, which helped me calm down a little and also enabled me to be discharged under my mother's care. I now tell every doctor that I have a reaction to Compazine (and have it listed as an allergy on my medical chart) so I will never be given it again. NOTE: I have experienced panic attacks in the past and am diagnosed with chronic depression and general anxiety disorder."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I’ve had this medication given twice, both for severe migraines! It was part of the migraine cocktail, and when it was pushed the first time, I had a feeling of impending doom flush over me… I felt like I couldn’t breathe and that my anxiety was out of control. The second time, I told the doctor not to give it to me, but I guess they still ordered it anyway. Ended up pushing it again, and it was way worse than the first time. I felt like I disconnected from reality, I became anxious and paced to the bathroom and back. Just the worst impending doom over my head. I told the nurse to give me more Benadryl to reverse these horrid side effects. It worked, but that same feeling lingered on to the next day. Just blurred vision, anxiety, and I was jittery. It’s now the third day, and I feel a lot better. Took 50 mg of Benadryl the night before, and I think that helped. Don’t recommend it to anyone."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Scariest medicine in the world. Was given Compazine yesterday night when I was admitted to the hospital. Doc gave it to me for nausea and anxiety. Made it worse! I had suicidal thoughts, wanted to check myself out of the hospital but couldn’t because I was losing so much blood. My legs and arms are restless even a day after. I’m so mad I was given this drug after seeing all these reviews and all the same side effects. So sad."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Was given Compazine with Benadryl in the ER for a severe migraine that was preceded by an aura and included light, sound, and smell sensitivity, as well as nausea and vomiting. I suffer from chronic migraines and have since I was a little girl (cisgender). I remember my first-grade teacher laying me under her desk and putting her coat over my eyes to help while waiting for my mom. My biological mom (who was diagnosed with a brain CCM) also has chronic migraines, as did her biological father. Once given the Compazine, I became anxious, agitated, couldn't hold still, wanted to crawl out of my skin! My then SO had to beg the nurses to call in the doctor to do something, I was about to tear out the IV drip and run! They finally gave me some Ativan, and I calmed down. Shift change happened, and my new nurse said she's seen it happen a few times before, and she doesn't like the Compazine/Benadryl for migraines."
