For Nausea/Vomiting "I have been on Compazine for over 2 years, and it has been an absolute overall relief of nausea, anxiety, and nerves/nervous tension. Finding a doctor who will prescribe it without a struggle and/or reservation is a whole other issue. I've been told it carries too many side effects and isn't considered safe or for long-term use. I've been told to switch to Zofran. The upside is Zofran seems to have a fairly good rating. I never suffered side effects from the Compazine."

For Nausea/Vomiting "My wife was administered Compazine after receiving chemo to relieve nausea symptoms. Within 12 hours, she became restless, irritable, felt like her muscles were being ripped out of her body, it caused her to have a 103 fever and diarrhea, coupled with the chemo almost killed her. She ended up in the ICU unconscious and almost died. Our team of doctors told us this was a rare occurrence. From reading the other reviews and witnessing this firsthand, I would advise anyone, if offered this drug, to decline. It was truly the biggest nightmare of my wife's life. On the scale of 1-10 above, this survey asked to select how effective this medicine was. Therefore, we would give it a 0=ZERO."

For Anxiety "I was given Compazine in the hospital along with Toradol. I have been to the ER many, many times for migraines, and they wouldn't listen to me. I usually get Toradol and just a tiny bit of morphine. The doctor said no and gave me this combo. That was two years ago, and ever since, I have had to be on multiple medications from the severe side effects I had. I ran out of the hospital, complete panic-stricken, horrible thoughts, dread, doom, you name it. I am now taking several pills a day all because of one single dose of Compazine. I cannot get any lawyers that will handle my case because it's against the drug company. Awful, awful drug."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Went to the ER and was given this drug without any details. Not one time did the nurses tell me what was about to happen. I thought I was going crazy!!! I could not sit still, it was the worst experience ever!!!! Do NOT allow the medical sheep to give this to you. Matter of fact, when you go to the ER, take someone with you and ask questions, and don’t let them put anything in your IV without Googling it!!!!! This is the next day, and still not 100%."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was in and out of the ER due to migraines, and on the last day, they gave me a prescription of Compazine. The next day when I took it, I laid down to take a nap and woke up struggling to breathe. My throat was closing, and I could barely talk. I went into a full-blown panic attack and called the ambulance. They gave me three different shots of something I can't remember and rushed me to the hospital. My jaw felt locked, like I was clenching my teeth hard together by the time I got to the hospital. I was shaking uncontrollably and crying hysterically. After I was discharged, I came home and chugged some children's Benadryl and took some Xanax and felt the side effects slowly go away. I have never in my life felt so scared."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to ER for uncontrollable vomiting. I was given Compazine (don’t know the dose but was via IV push and a syringe full). Immediately, I felt anxious and panicky. When I asked the nurse if this was supposed to happen, she said if anything should make me feel more relaxed, WRONG! It’s been exactly six days, and I still feel overly anxious, strangest and most scary vivid dreams, and cannot sit still. Have to walk nearly 8 miles a day to barely be able to sleep at night. BELIEVE THE REVIEWS, I HOPE AND PRAY SOMEONE CAN SEE THESE AND PREVENT THE AWFUL SIDE EFFECTS OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING! That is definitely going to be listed as an allergy to medication in the future. I would have much rather dealt with throwing up from food poisoning than deal with these endless awful feelings. If anyone knows when I will be feeling normal again and constant panic and anxiety will go, and the awful scary dreams would stop, please PLEASE let me know or post here, I will check regularly."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Very bad side effects. Given by IV in the emergency room for severe migraine. Jaw clenching, agitation, loss of appetite, groggy, incessant urination (with a foul smell). Side effects lasted for a week after administration."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Absolute worst experience. Please read the reviews. They gave me this for a headache, heart rate went to 155. I felt like I was going to die, never in my life have I felt that level of panic. My first instinct was to rip my IV out. Became restless, skin crawling feeling like I needed to jump out of my body. It was the most uncomfortable I have ever felt. Once home, I paced back and forth for hours, I could not sit or lay down. I felt like I was losing my mind - I just wanted it to stop. I called the hospital, they suggested Benadryl, the ONLY thing that let me lay down after hours. I took a couple more the next day to be able to stop moving every second. It's been 33 hours since I was given this med, and I am still restless, cannot stop moving my legs. I don't care how much pain or how nauseous I could be or how much someone paid me, never in my life would I take this again, and I wish I had looked it up first."

For Anxiety "Had this in a 'headache cocktail' last night when I went into the ER for an intense migraine with garbled speech. NEVER again. I have never appreciated a headache more because, by comparison, it was so much better than the side effects of Compazine. It made me a crazy person in full-blown panic attack mode. I was trying to pull out the IV and run away. I felt doom and dread and mental anguish. I was yelling and just trying to figure out a way to kill myself (literally) if the mental pain and confusion didn't stop soon. Luckily, the terror didn't last long because three nurses came in and gave me more Benadryl, which counteracted or at least knocked me out. I am a bit traumatized by the experience but feel a lot better today."

For Anxiety "Went to the ER for extreme neck pain due to a strain. Was given Toradol and Compazine through IV, I reminded the nurse that I was allergic to Reglan and most likely this as well. She said she was going to give it a try for my headache. Big mistake. While getting ready for my head CT, the side effects hit. It was horrible. Extremely agitated, anxious, wanted to rip my IV out. Worst anxiety attack I’ve ever experienced. Went home and tried to sleep it off with no avail. I started hallucinating, and it wasn’t until I literally drank a huge amount of liquids to pee it out that I found relief. Never again. It’s the day after, and I’m still not 100% me. Don’t take this!"

For Anxiety "I suffered a TIA (transient ischemic attack), my biggest complaint was migraine, and I lost control of the left side of my body. The doctor in the ER gave me Compazine, and it was the worst experience of my life. I don’t think they believed I was having a TIA, but it was confirmed by a neurologist months later. As soon as the Compazine hit me, I felt like I would pull out my IV and jump out a window. I never felt this desperate before. I will never forget this experience. I’m so annoyed that doctors in the ER refused to address my mini-stroke. If you are a woman, be careful you are not dismissed as lying or having “anxiety.” I suffered a heart attack months later. There was no good reason for them to give Compazine."

For Anxiety "Like many on here, I too went to the ER for a severe migraine. I have been given Phenergan and Toradol, and that always does the trick, but this time I went to a different hospital, and they gave me Compazine and Benadryl. Within seconds, I felt anxious. I wanted to rip my IV out, and I felt severely claustrophobic. One of the worst experiences of my life. I would have rather kept the migraine than go through that again. When I got home, I still had anxiety, and it didn’t completely go away for a day or two. I’m still scared to go to a hospital after this experience, and I’m actually scared of IVs now."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This was the most awful medicine I have ever had. I thought I was going to die, my heart rate went up to 180. I couldn't be still. I tried ripping my IV out, and when I told the nurse, she laughed and said, 'Just calm down, you're fine.' It was horrible. It's been 3 days, and I'm still having panic attacks, muscle twitches all the time. This medicine has ruined my life, please do not take this."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Went to the ER twice with a severe migraine, both times given Compazine. It definitely helps with relieving the pain, but the side effects outweigh it for me. Felt like my skin was crawling, restlessness, skin rash, dry mouth, anxiety (triggered a panic attack both times), brought up a lot of bad thoughts of how I was dying. Long term, rebound headache, insomnia, loss of appetite. Also had it with Benadryl once, and that scared me."

For Nausea/Vomiting "When I had the stomach flu, I was given Compazine as a suppository so that I could eat again without vomiting. It seemed to work okay at first, but I would soon find myself fighting for my life. It started with pain and difficulty speaking, but quickly morphed into my body contorting backward involuntarily to the point where I couldn't move any of my torso, legs, arms, etc., on my own. In quick progression, I went from barely able to voice a whisper to being unable to breathe at all. I was suffocating, and if not for the swift action of EMTs and a life-saving dose of Benadryl, Compazine would have succeeded in being fatal. After the fact, I heard a doctor refer to my adverse reaction as 'Compazine lockdown.' I'm lucky to have lived through my experience taking Compazine."

For Psychosis "The first time I was given IV Compazine, I pulled my IV out and fled the hospital! The second time, I actually called my nurse and told him how I felt, and he said he had seen it before with Compazine, and the doctor gave me IV Benadryl, which almost took the scared, antsy, panic feeling away but made me a complete zombie. I will never again be a doctor's guinea pig!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I experienced the 'restless, anxious' side effects from this medication, and it's been almost 24 hours, and I am still feeling it in my legs. My headache is gone, which is great, but my legs can't stop moving."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this for nausea and a migraine. It did not help me with either, but made me anxious, and I felt like my skin was crawling. I've never experienced anything like that. I was ready to pull the IV out myself and escape from the room if they didn't hurry up and discharge me. I've never had a response to a medicine like that before, and it was absolutely awful. Worst hour of my life."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Believe the reviews! Do not under any circumstances, when going to the ER for a migraine/headache, have them give you prochlorperazine through an IV. When it was given, I had an insanely fast heart rate, my skin was crawling, and I literally stood up, asked the nurse to remove my IV, and I paced the hospital nonstop. My wife drove me home, and I literally paced my house for almost 3 days straight as I couldn’t sit still or sleep! It’s been a month since then, and I’m still having PTSD from that incident."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This is the only medication I have ever been given in my entire life that has made me literally want to rip out my IV and run out of the ER. I was given this in the ER to curb the side effects of my lumbar puncture. I have anxiety and RLS, so in the beginning, I thought I was just experiencing a minor panic attack. I felt so restless that I had to go to the bathroom just to do something with myself. When I got back to the bed, I immediately told my gf that I wanted to leave. Was pushing the call light. And damn near left screaming. I flipped my shot on the doctor, and he said this was a common side effect. I told him I feel like I'm going to have a panic attack, and he gave me Benadryl and some kind of benzo. Absolutely horrid."

For Nausea/Vomiting "After having a migraine and horrible muscle pains for 20+ hours, I went to the ER. This medication, Compazine, was in the migraine 'cocktail' they gave me. I have never felt the way it made me feel. I couldn’t sit still, my body didn’t feel like my own. I was literally freaking out. I wanted to get out of there, I was ready to rip out my IV and run. My husband tried to help keep me calm. When the second nurse came in, she said this happens sometimes and that they should have given it at a slower rate. I do not know if that would’ve made a difference, and I am not giving it a second try. Worst medical experience I’ve had. I do not blame the Dr. or nurses, but this medication has left me traumatized."

For Anxiety "About a year ago, I went in to the ER for nausea and headaches. They gave me Compazine through my IV. Almost instantly, my heart was racing to the point I almost passed out. I was screaming for help. How does one get over the fear of taking medicine once something like this has happened to them?"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER yesterday for a migraine and was given Compazine and fell asleep, however, when I woke up, I felt off, like something wasn't right. I couldn't stay still, I just felt uneasy. It wasn't until I read the comments in this thread that I realized that the Compazine had a side effect on me. I will definitely put it on my non-medication list. I still feel weird the next day. I even called off of work. I hope this helps someone else."

For Anxiety "I’m sorry you all have gone through this, but at least I feel I am not alone! I went to the ER last night for a severe migraine, and they gave me Toradol, Compazine, and dexamethasone. The crawling out of my skin and restlessness, fidgeting constantly, was the worst! It’s been 12 hours now, and it seems slightly better. How long does it last? Hang in there, my fellow sufferers, try to remember it won’t last forever. XO."

"I went to the ER twice for a migraine and received Compazine, Toradol, and Benadryl via IV. Both times I felt like my body was not my own. I instantly felt jittery and couldn’t sit still. I wanted to jump out of my skin. All I wanted was to go home. The cocktail worked, but when I was finally released, I could barely drive home because I couldn’t sit still for more than a few seconds. I had to pull over multiple times. I called the ER when I got home because I couldn’t sleep at all. The nurse told me to take another dose of Benadryl and it should subside. It took 2 days to get back to normal. I thought it was the combination of Compazine, Toradol, and Benadryl that caused this side effect until I was admitted to Johns Hopkins for DHE treatment. They gave me Compazine before the start of the treatment, and I immediately felt crazy. All the symptoms I felt in the ER happened again. The worst medication I have ever received. Count yourself lucky if you didn’t experience this."
