For GERD "On omeprazole for GERD, 40 mg, and for 4 months, I thought I was going to die. I had anxiety attacks every night and could hardly breathe. Headaches, drooling, coughing, choking, and had no energy and a rotten taste in my mouth, and throat burning up, so I couldn't speak. I refuse to stay on tablets, instead, I am going to watch my diet and lose weight. Any tests I had showed clear, so it was tablet side effects making me worse. Natural products are best."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "This drug gave me some of the worst experiences of my life. I was prescribed this drug (15 mg twice a day) for mild acid reflux/gastritis symptoms. The side effects of this medicine are awful. Depression, anxiety, panic attacks, chest and back pain, shaking, burning sensation in arms and back. My vision went blurry, and I had severe brain fog. I felt like I was about to die pretty much the entire time with chest racing and strong heartbeats. I couldn't sleep and would wake up pretty much as soon as I fell asleep. I stopped taking these tablets 3 weeks ago, and still I am not right. I can feel the cloud of these tablets slowly lifting. I would not take these tablets again."

For GERD "Went to the ER 5 times for extreme abdominal pain and was prescribed this medication. I did my research and read the reviews on these pills and was already extremely skeptical but took it for two days and already was extremely shaky, anxiety was through the roof, depressive, suicidal thoughts came flooding back. I had difficulty breathing and concentrating, shaky and painful eyes, piercing headaches, and this was only after 2 days. Do NOT recommend."

For Stomach Ulcer "After 2 months of using this drug, I had symptoms of fatigue, brain fog, confusion, and loss of appetite, and I felt that I was not alone at all, along with depression, severe anxiety, and muscle spasms. This drug is awful, and its side effects can last for months, even months, even after quitting. Avoid it if you can. It ruined my life."

For GERD "I have been using this ever since I was a kid! I knew my gastritis was getting better, but on the other side, it was causing me mental illness! I got addicted to this, not knowing it's affecting me until I thought of looking at reviews online. I was blown away! I'm now suffering with severe anxiety problems, scared to go out of the house, losing a lot of things in life! I'm going to stop this evil medicine right now, hoping I could get back to my normal life soon!"

For Stomach Ulcer "I was prescribed omeprazole following treatment for a stomach ulcer, worked like a charm almost instantly with no more stomach pain, acid reflux, and indigestion, fantastic! I thought, however, as time has gone on (9 months), I feel absolutely rubbish!! My head feels 'dead' with feelings of dizziness, I get tingling sensations in my arms and legs, very lethargic, every bone in my body seems to ache, bloated stomach, nausea, and I am in an almost constant state of anxiety with mild bouts of depression and panic attacks, wish I had never taken it and waiting to speak to my doctor to come off it. It was great for my stomach at the time, but the longer I have used it, the worse my well-being has been."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "Honestly, guys, worst experience ever. Was given this pill, 20 mg daily. Took it for around 1 and a half months. Yeah, it took the pain away in my stomach. But let me tell you this: I would have that pain any day over what I have been through the last 4 weeks. I stopped the omeprazole as I was feeling much better, no pain. After stopping the meds, I have been in A&E, thinking I'm struggling to breathe. My anxiety is through the roof, constant feeling I need air in my lungs, panic attacks thinking, Am I unable to get enough air? All hospital checks came back clear. I am now on anxiety meds and depression meds. I was so confused as to what caused this, as everything in my life was going well: no worries, good job, happy family, etc. Then boom, I am still struggling nearly 5 weeks later. I can 100% put this down to omeprazole, after reading reviews, I am convinced it's this horrible tab. Never ever again will I take this med."

For Indigestion "Took this medicine for 8 days. On the third day, started to feel awful. Brain fog, high anxiety, and depression. Blurry vision and a tingly feeling in hands and feet. I have now been off of it for 5 days and feeling like I’m losing my mind. I can’t work. I’m going to check my B12 levels tomorrow to determine if I am deficient. I hope this passes or eases up soon because I can barely even sleep. I thought it was a reaction to my first vaccine (Pfizer) until a friend told me omeprazole did this to him as well. What an awful drug. I’d recommend an all-natural remedy over this any day."

Omeprazole for GERD "For starters, I have anxiety, and a lot of reviews said that they had severe anxiety while on this medication, which really worried me. I waited for a while until I was in a positive mindset to take it to avoid quitting the medication over something that wasn't real, like my normal anxiety. Eventually, I started, and by day 2, I started to notice my stomach stopped causing problems. I didn't necessarily feel good, but I stopped feeling bad, which was positive. I got really happy about this as I've been dealing with heartburn for over a year now. However, on day 5, I noticed I started waking up with decently intense anxiety, which was brand new to me. Now, when I say this, I don't want you to think I was full-blown panicking and hospitalized because I was not. I just felt very on edge and was able to push through it fine. But after time, I realized it was enough for me to give up on trying this medicine. All in all, you'll be fine to try it, and if it makes you feel bad, you will definitely know."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I was diagnosed with acid reflux and gastritis, and my doctor prescribed me omeprazole 40 mgs. This might be the worst medicine I have ever taken. It did absolutely nothing to help my problems, and it gave me the worst side effects: nausea, stomach pain, gas, very nervous, insomnia. This is the worst medicine! I thought I had IBS, and my doctor even diagnosed me, but I stopped taking this medicine and my IBS magically went away. Do not take this medicine... I would rather just take Tums."

For Laryngopharyngeal Reflux "This medicine is worse than the acid reflux itself. I had no symptoms of GERD other than a bad cough (which I believe was asthma anyway). I was prescribed 40 mg daily for one month. The first 2 weeks were fine, however, I began to develop severe anxiety and insomnia. Worst of all, I began to feel a knot in my throat, which wouldn't allow me to eat anything for days and weeks! I lost nearly 15 pounds during the time I took this medicine. I then got a panic attack on a plane (I fly a lot and this has never happened). When I got to the urgent care later that day, my blood pressure was through the roof. This was my last straw. I stopped taking it after that. The anxiety that I developed while taking omeprazole has slowly been going away. I recommend everyone to Google omeprazole and anxiety, and you will read about thousands of people complaining about similar experiences. Please don't take this, and if you can, try a holistic approach."

For GERD "I had developed GERD a few months ago and also had my gallbladder removed. Since I started omeprazole, within 2 weeks, I started having anxiety and headaches. However, it does control the acid reflux, but it's the side effects I do not care for. When I started weaning myself from it, my anxiety and headaches started disappearing. I will be consulting with my doctor about alternatives that will not give me the same symptoms."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I was diagnosed with mild gastritis with no H. pylori. Actually, I had severe heartburn. It's all in June 2020. The doctor prescribed me esomeprazole 20 mg. On day 3 of esomeprazole, I started feeling dizziness, bloated stomach, and sharp pain in my back. Felt like my bones were breaking. After 15 days, I went to the doctor to see whether there was anything serious with the medicine. He changed the prescription to pantoprazole 40 mg for 60 days and Duspatalin. After taking pantoprazole, I started having anxiety, heartburn frequently, drowsiness, and started vomiting. But what happened was I couldn't eat, walk-nothing. I had to stop the medicine cold turkey. After that, I had a good diet. I again started with heartburn occasionally. Again, the doctor prescribed me omeprazole. Again, after two weeks, I started having anxiety, shivering, back pain, and jaw pain. Without consulting the doctor, I stopped my medicine. After 8 months, in March 2021, we can cure this naturally."

For GERD "Do not take this or any other PPI! I’m dead serious when I say this, either doctors bury their heads in the sand or they know and just don’t care what this does to some people. How in the heck does a PPI that is supposed to control stomach acid affect your head and heart? I’ve had all of these same symptoms as everyone else on here. Headaches out of nowhere, uneasiness feeling when lying down, feeling like a weight on my chest at night. When I’m about to fall asleep, something in my body shocks and I gasp for air-just craziness. I tried PAN for 30 days, and a week after it must have caused bad bacteria in my stomach because for 1.5 weeks I was bloated every day and burped nonstop… for the first time in my life. That happened on and off for 2 months, but the doctor wanted me to try it again to get rid of chronic gastritis once and for all. Four days in, all the symptoms again, but on Omeprazole this time… it was actually worse than I remember on PAN."

For GERD "Wow. I have felt horrible for the past week. Just unwell feeling, anxiety, tiredness even after restful sleep, diarrhea, shakiness, brain zapped, no appetite. I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out, but then I remembered I started taking omeprazole for my indigestion issues about 10 days ago. Looked on here, and it seems every commenter has my same exact issues. Yep, it’s decided, and I’m not taking this horrible medication anymore. Too steep of a price to pay for acid reflux relief. Rather just take Pepcid. Gah, I hope I feel better soon. This feeling is truly horrid."

For GERD "I've been on this drug for a few years now for acid reflux. I've never felt completely well since I've been on it and wondered why my life had spiraled downhill. Thought it was just an age thing, so I just kept taking it. Now reading these reviews, I know why I haven't felt well now. I always have acid reflux and feel it in my throat, so that's why I always have taken them. In the last few weeks, I have felt really rough with it. Nausea, daily aches and pains in all my bones, anxiety, which I have NEVER suffered with, sinus and filled ears, numbness and tingling in my arms, brain fog, which worried me a little as I work with dementia patients. Still, I didn't think it was omeprazole doing it. I feel sick every morning after taking it, so I didn't take one this morning and have felt completely different today, fingers crossed. I'm going to try a small amount of diluted bicarb and natural things from now on. It just goes to show how these drugs and similar can pull your life to pieces."

For GERD "I had a similar experience with this drug. I’ve been on it for about a month. All the symptoms mentioned I had. My anxiety went from bad to horrendous, I was dizzy and faint and had lots of muscle cramping and weakness. My brain had gotten so bad I would be in the middle of a sentence and forget what I was saying. Deciding to come off of it, to try a more natural route of healing."

For Hiatal Hernia "If I could give this drug a 0, I absolutely would. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and GERD a little over 2 months ago when I went in for an upper endoscopy. I was prescribed 40 mg of omeprazole to take daily. I took this medication for 2 months constantly, and everything was great. My reflux was manageable, and I had no side effects. I then went on a vacation and forgot my meds, so I went about 4 days without them. Again, I was fine for those 4 days, I just took antacids to help with my reflux. It was when I got back home and started taking it again is when the side effects came on. I took it for about 2 days, and on the 3rd day, I was just standing around when I felt like I was going to pass out. My heart was beating out of my chest, and I felt like I couldn't breathe. I went to the ER, and they found nothing. I now feel constant anxiety/depression, stomach pain, nausea, muscle weakness, and sweating/chills. I'm going to wean off and eventually stop it in hopes of feeling better."

For Indigestion "I started to have an irritation at the back of my throat, which then became a bit sore. The doctor thought it could be acid reflux (which I doubt it was), so he gave me omeprazole. It worked for the first two days, but then made my throat worse, and my anxiety went through the roof. After three weeks, I went back to the doctor and was given Nexium, and not only did that work, but my anxiety went right down. When my Nexium finished, my doctor put me back on omeprazole, and again my anxiety has increased. I have stopped taking it for the last three days now, and I can now feel my anxiety coming down. Never going back to that. Will try through natural remedies instead. Would not recommend it at all."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I keep trying it because the doctor says I “need it,” but since I’ve taken it, it’s just made me feel like complete garbage. I didn’t even know I had reflux until I had the endoscopy done. Well, I had Barrett’s, even worse than regular GERD, but nonetheless. Ever since taking it, I have had dizziness, been overly anxious, brain fog, some muscle pain, and just exhausted. I had an undiagnosed autoimmune disease, so I was chalking it up to that, but I don’t think that’s the case at all. As soon as I started taking this is when I noticed. The only good thing it may have done is lowered my %EOS, but I can’t even say for sure if this is why. I don’t know, but this sure has me just stuck with what to do. I would recommend trying something different if you can and not taking this. Not to mention the long-term side effects-yuck! Scary stuff!"

For Indigestion "OMG! Reading all those reviews makes sense now, as I’ve had similar experiences by taking omeprazole only when I was getting a flare-up of a gout attack coming up, as I had to take 20 mg of it 1 hour before a meal and after a meal, colchicine, and Voltaren 100. Been doing this for the last 15-20 years, as I was diagnosed with gout nearly 30 years ago when I was 18 years old. It’s been happening lately, let's say a few years back, when taking omeprazole that I have been getting symptoms of chronic fatigue, blurred vision, extreme anxiety, panic attacks, brain fog, muscle cramps, severe insomnia, and depression. I cannot function at all, especially in the mornings when I wake up, and only start to function in the late afternoon after pushing myself to exercise, even with extreme fatigue, so that I felt better afterwards as my body would produce endorphins and serotonins. My GP prescribed me antidepressant drugs also. I still feel horrible now writing this review. :( THANK YOU to all of you for your reviews."

For Hiatal Hernia "I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia many months ago, and my physician started me on this medication. Initially, I was nauseated to the point of vomiting (dry heaving) every morning and sporadically throughout the day, but now I’m mainly just nauseated in the morning and still nauseated throughout the day, but with less intensity. This also may be due to the weight loss, which has been approximately 30 pounds in five months. I have noticed that I have had a more difficult time with anxiety. I’m not sure if there’s a correlation. However, I do know that I need to change something or potentially have surgery in the future, as the quality of life is still unmanageable even with the medication, and perhaps it is making my mental health problems worse. Overall, I do not feel this medication has been beneficial."

For Duodenal Ulcer "I’m going to give this 3 stars solely because it does help with ulcer/reflux pain. But the side effects are crazy. I’m typically not one to ever experience side effects from medication, but this one was a totally different story. I had pins and needles in my hands and feet constantly, weird sensations all over my body, headaches, dizziness, terrible anxiety, and stomach cramps. I literally have a neurologist appointment this month because I had convinced myself I had MS. I’ve been off of it for 5 days now, and today is the first day I can somewhat confidently say that I feel a little better. All of this started the day after I began omeprazole."

For Indigestion "I have been experiencing extreme anxiety, depression, confusion, nausea, and muscle spasms for a while now. I have been visiting my GP and haven't been able to find a cause. I have just found this page and now realize that omeprazole may be the cause, I never thought it could be the cause because it seemed to help so much at first. Just hope stopping, I can finally get back to normal."
