For Oral Thrush "I ended up with thrush after being on antibiotics, and my tongue had blisters. It felt like fiberglass on my tongue, the pain was so bad. I was prescribed Nystatin 4 times a day, started taking it on a Monday, it's now Friday of the same week, and my thrush is almost completely gone, blisters healed, and no pain. However, the banana flavor is one of the most foul things my taste buds have ever tasted, it's disgusting. It has also made me very nauseous. I thought the nausea I had from Lexapro was bad, nothing compared to this. I've lost 10 lbs from not eating because of how gross it makes me feel. Good for the thrush, but let's just say I can't wait to stop taking this."

"Was told to do an oral rinse with nystatin a few times a day for thrush. About 1-2 days in, and I have really bad diarrhea... ended up pooping in my pants about 3 days into the treatment. Thank goodness I was home. Will be calling my doctor. Not good if you have chronic intestinal/stomach problems. Also, tastes so terrible I almost vomit every time I take it. So definitely not worth it. Doesn’t even look like it’s improving anyway."

For Oral Thrush "This stuff is awful. I took three bottles, and the thrush didn’t go away. I had a terrible headache, which is caused by nystatin that irritated the brain, had a stiff neck, and was sure I was going to the hospital. I have had this for three months and am now going to see an infectious disease doctor. I urge you to not use this."

For Oral Thrush "So I was given Nystatin for oral thrush to try, as fluconazole hadn't quite nipped it in the bud. I was taking it as prescribed, I didn't think it tasted bad... like marzipan, I thought. However, my tongue kept getting worse and worse and worse. I then began being sick. I stopped the Nystatin as per GP orders, and they wanted to swab my tongue. However, one day in, it has practically cleared up!"

For Oral Thrush "I developed oral thrush after being on antibiotics and methylprednisolone for oral surgery. I was prescribed nystatin rinse and was told to rinse and spit and not swallow, which I followed. It almost immediately made me dizzy and lightheaded. My stomach was upset and gurgling. After the second time taking it, I had diarrhea three times. My surgeon couldn’t understand how I could get diarrhea and GI upset if I wasn’t swallowing… but I was. It was clear when my stool was orangey-yellow like nystatin. I was then advised to stop and try fluconazole. Currently taking that with no issues (only taken it twice) and improvement but still working on it."

For Oral Thrush "Nystatin is the worst treatment option available for oral thrush. This medication caused me to feel nauseated, gave me a severe migraine, fever, dizziness, and upset stomach. I had to stop taking it. The Daktarin Oral gel is discontinued in the UK, this was the only thing that works!!!! Three courses of Fluconazole antibiotics I’ve taken due to my intolerance to Nystatin and nothing else is working. A waste of NHS money and time. Before, you could walk in and buy Daktarin from a pharmacy and actually treat the issue. Instead, I have had to go through numerous GP and pharmacy visits and medications, each time feeling awful, and still, I can’t get rid of the oral thrush. GPs and pharmacists all seem surprised that I had such a severe reaction to this medication, however, a bit of research online suggests others are also suffering the same side effects."

For Oral Thrush "Started taking nystatin for oral thrush after developing a mild case of it from taking propranolol, which has a side effect of dry mouth/throat. After being on it for two months, I developed a mild case of oral thrush. Was taking nystatin 5 ml 4 times a day, swish and swallow. Halfway through the 3rd day, I developed what I think was an allergic reaction: facial flushing, rapid heart rate. Usually at 92-95 bpm on propranolol, but nystatin made my heart rate go to 150. Had dizziness, felt like I was about to pass out, my chest felt funny, so did my throat a little bit, and my bottom lip got numb for a few minutes and went away. Couldn't think right, and an hour later it slowly subsided. My pharmacist told me to get off of it for 24 hours to see if it’s the propranolol doing it, and if it’s not, then it was caused by the nystatin. First time ever taking it, I guess I had a late reaction. I mean it worked up until I had a reaction."

For Oral Thrush "I have been told to take nystatin to clear up oral thrush I accidentally gave myself from using a steroid-based nose spray to help with nighttime allergies. I didn’t rinse my mouth out because I didn’t know this could happen from using a nose spray. I foolishly got the nose spray from a chemist without seeing a doctor first. My question to everyone using nystatin is how long do you keep it in your mouth gurgling or swishing until swallowing? The directions on the bottle say for as long as possible, but I’m unsure what that means."

For Oral Thrush "I mix the oral nystatin with baby Benadryl 10 ml to let it have a better taste and avoid nausea. My throat is so sore that I had to go back on it. My immune system is low and I have a swollen lymph node under my arm. Benign diagnosis for cancer. Three days later, this thrush infection came, so indeed my immune system is not working well. Caution: Benadryl makes you rest, drowsy."
