For Oral Thrush "I'm 47 years old and never even heard of oral 'thrush.' Went to see my doc today with the worst cough and horrible sore throat. Yep, he said I had this thrush, put me on Nystatin and one other antibiotic. I mainly came in here to see other comments on how quickly this stuff works. I can't get over how bad my throat hurts and just pray this medicine works."

For Oral Thrush "I am so thankful for this medication. I had such a sore mouth and tongue and difficulty swallowing, blurred vision. I took this medication on time and finished the whole round of treatment, it never came back. I had a mild headache and fatigue for a couple of days, and then it just went away. Always take it as prescribed, on time, and finish it. Also, your food may taste different during treatment, but I feel like I got a new mouth and throat after finishing this treatment. Wishing you a speedy recovery!"

For Oral Thrush "I’ve been reading that nystatin’s efficacy declines after repeated uses. I’ve had thrush a few times over the past seven years, probably due to a diet too high in carbs, being pre-diabetic, and having adrenal fatigue. Thrush is worse this time on the roof of the mouth and back of the palate; mostly red with some whitish patches. Came on fast, painful to eat, and even drink. Using liquid nystatin with prednisolone rinse together; swish around (3 minutes) or so and spit out. That helps some with the pain. I also spray (several times a day) colloidal silver on the back of the throat (get a good nanoparticle brand); while rinsing once or twice with hydrogen peroxide (3%). Taking enzymes, probiotics, and antifungals in the meantime to push back on this Candida infection. I don’t think one medication works anymore; it’s better to use a multi-approach and clean out some sugar/carbs in the diet."

For Oral Thrush "I would not take it again. I took it for 5 days for a sore tongue. I had a steady improvement, but then my sore tongue came back. I took nystatin for 5 more days and had the same improvement again. However, the sore tongue came back so strongly that the pain was literally unbearable. I swore I would stop taking nystatin. Since then, fast improvement every day. It is now my fourth day now with no meds, and my tongue is back to NORMAL!"

For Oral Thrush "I had a mouth thrush infection, which came after UTI treatment with Macrobid. That became bronchitis for 2 months, long and coughing until I was almost hospitalized. Then a sore throat for 3 months, left sided only. Various tests said nil. I have a hx of children's orphan cancer, so I am with scarred lungs. Then another round of antibiotics, Z-pack for my throat, no effect. Then another UTI and sulfa drug for 5 days, and in between, 7 days of Macrobid. I am now consulting naturopathy as I got thrush mouth sores again! Now I am on Nystatin, day 3, and start seeing improvements in my tongue. So I am hopeful."

For Oral Thrush "I've been taking Nystatin for 3 weeks and prior to this, over-the-counter medication for oral thrush following numerous prescriptions of antibiotics for UTIs. So far, there has been little improvement, if any. So, back to GP for another review. Going to try apple cider vinegar, which I've heard can be effective."

For Oral Thrush "After the use of inhaled steroids and having a dry mouth for 8 months, I used nystatin four times daily for 12 days. I was religious about keeping it in my mouth for 10 minutes on each side and then swallowed it. Occasionally, I would scrape my tongue. It worked like I hoped it would."

For Oral Thrush "Used this medication religiously as prescribed for seven days. Had to order another bottle as this fungus is persistent. My mouth feels like it's full of dry cotton every time I swish and gargle this seemingly useless medicine! It takes hours to get my mouth to feel moist again, just in time to swish and gargle again!"

For Oral Thrush "Was told to take Nystatin Oral for some oral thrush I had on my tongue and throat. 4x a day for 10 days. I got to day 3 and had a lot of tightness and pain in my chest (debating on going to the ER), also couldn't sleep at all. Pharmacist told me to stop taking it. Waiting to see now what my doctor has to say."

For Oral Thrush "I got oral thrush after I was on Amoxicillin for a dental infection and procedure. I was diagnosed and given Nystatin. I found it worked so well. I took it four times a day, 5 ml, swished, held in my mouth, swishing as long as possible, and then swallowing. I don't know why everyone is complaining. It just works on the mouth, esophagus, and stomach."

For Gastrointestinal Candidiasis "I am on liquid nystatin every 8 hours. I started Friday night. By 5 pm the next day (Saturday), my temp had increased to 103.1. I also had intestinal pain, cold extremities, chills/shakiness, intense body aches that hurt so bad that I can't pick things up with my hands. I was able to get it down with several doses of Tylenol over the night. Now Sunday woke up, no fever, felt drained but kinda okay. Then 11 am, it started again, all symptoms and fever rising. I took Tylenol, and it is less helpful than yesterday. I only took half a nystatin dose today. I am drinking so much water and broth that I pee clear. Is all this normal, or do I go to the ER?"

For Oral Thrush "Terrible stuff, awful reaction overnight, first day of using for oral thrush that came along with antibiotics taken as prescribed. Nothing is improved, in fact, my tongue, cheeks, ears are all affected, and my lips have swollen up, my face is burning. No idea what to do, as the doctor was not helpful. I know I will never use nystatin again, ever, it's awful."

For Oral Thrush "Developed oral thrush while on H. pylori treatment. The huge amount of antibiotics kills off all bacteria and can make the normal yeast that lives in your mouth get out of control. Mouth was dry, sore, fissures opened up on my tongue, the whole mouth was painful and white spots started to form. On day 3 of using nystatin, I noticed fissures are healing and moisture is returning to my mouth. Only side effects are a weird taste in my mouth. Chemical banana flavor not the best. Nystatin 2.5 ml, 3 times a day, after meals."

For Oral Thrush "I took it as a swish and spit for thrush. After a few days, I developed dry mouth and a bit of burning after I took it. Some stomach cramps also occurred. None of these side-effect symptoms were too much, and I finished a 2-week prescription."

For Oral Thrush "Wow! I actually found these comments by searching to see if Nystatin causes a horrible taste in your mouth. I was diagnosed with thrush a couple of months ago by my GP after noticing a white coating on my tongue, plus my tongue was burning and I had a terrible taste constantly. No change. Went for my yearly pap and showed my tongue to my gyno, who told me to throw the Nystatin away (I was on my refill at this time), and he prescribed Fluconazole 150 mg. Told me it was better, and it was only one pill. Made no difference. Got the refill on that, still no change. Back to GP...he told me to mix Cepacol and hydrogen peroxide and use as a mouthwash and to make an appointment with my dentist. Used that combo four to five times a day and the coating on my tongue went away, as well as the burning sensation...I thought I was cured. Went to the dentist yesterday, he said I still have it on my gums and the side of my tongue. Made an appointment with ENT...what's up with this medicine?"

For Oral Thrush "It's about day 3 for me with the 100,000 units/ml suspension, a light yellow liquid. First time taking this, and first time with the condition. Yes, it does sting some when it first comes in contact with my tongue area. Especially on the visible bump and also a milder sting on the parts not seen. Instructions on the bottle are to swish and swallow 4 times daily. I called the pharmacy back, then they said to gargle it and maybe only swish for 2 minutes. (haha, I was doing 5 whole minutes) At least it doesn't sting that long, but the bottle given is large, syringe is short! Lol, I didn't think about that until the stuff started getting lower in the bottle. I will be looking around somewhere to find a longer syringe. I don't know why it didn't come with the right size! Really? I tell you, America... I feel like it's working - ever so slowly. So far no side effects, so that's a blessing. I will try to come back to do an update later when the medicine is finished. (this bottle is supposed to last 25 days.)"

For Oral Thrush "It was prescribed to me because of oral thrush complications from the yeast infection caused by the Macrobid that was prescribed to me. Had a burning sensation in my mouth after days of using, getting my gums to feel burned, itchy mouth and eyes, feels like I'm gonna have a sore throat, also had some palpitations. Phoned the pharmacy, told them about my symptoms and was told to stop the medication. Went back to the doctor who prescribed the medication, told me I should continue and try the medication again since she thinks it kinda improved the thrush. It did somehow, but with all the side effects, I was skeptical. I'm trying it again on the 2nd day of the second attempt, let's see what happens."

For Oral Thrush "I’m on my 5th bottle of nystatin, and it hasn’t been all that great. I quit smoking and drinking just so my immune system could get better, and still no result. On top of that, I've been eating lots of food with vitamins and no sugar. And I got balanitis."

For Oral Thrush "I've never had oral thrush before, only just started on a steroid inhaler and wasn't told that I'm meant to rinse my mouth out after I use it - else it can cause oral thrush. I'll never use that inhaler again as it's not worth all of this. Was prescribed nystatin 30ml, and the dentist told me to swirl it in my mouth for 5 minutes at a time, 4 times daily. I can't keep it in my mouth for nowhere near that long as it makes me heave, the feeling of it in my mouth with all the stickiness makes me heave, the second dose was worse, especially when it says to swallow it slowly, never again. This medication just makes me heave too much, and if I keep it in my mouth for longer, I just know I'll spew up."

For Oral Thrush "I'm at my wit's end having thrush. Need to know if anyone out there that has been prescribed nystatin has suffered severe body pain from it. Every time I have to use it, my body aches so bad I cannot bear it and affects my breathing also. I have been taking it just the same for ten days and it does not even seem to be working."

For Oral Thrush "First time with oral thrush due to use of antibiotic Xifaxan for IBS. Had Nystatin with Lidocaine prescribed from compounding pharmacy. Used half of the dose to swish on one side of my mouth, then spit out. Same for the other side. No swallowing, thank goodness! This med was excellent for me. I wasn't perfect in using 4 times per day, but used often enough to get rid of thrush after 6 days. I'd definitely use it again."

For Oral Thrush "I had thrush due to antibiotics for swollen tonsils, which gave me thrush. I was healing, then I took nystatin, which feels like you're pouring acid down your throat if it's a bit red. Not sure why a doctor would give you this, especially when your throat is RAW. The roof of my mouth is now swollen and my tonsils burning. It makes you feel extremely worse. I am not taking it now, I have mouth burns and swelling. Test this stuff first on your mouth with a Q-tip before you go putting it in a raw mouth."

For Oral Thrush "I was given amoxicillin for a dental infection. On the second day, I got thrush in my throat, and one side of my tongue was sore and had little blisters. The ER gave me nystatin. On the second day, my throat got better, but my tongue is sore, and I have a metallic taste. It's the sixth day, I quit it."

For Oral Thrush "I mix the oral nystatin with baby Benadryl 10 ml to let it have a better taste and avoid nausea. My throat is so sore that I had to go back on it. My immune system is low and I have a swollen lymph node under my arm. Benign diagnosis for cancer. Three days later, this thrush infection came, so indeed my immune system is not working well. Caution: Benadryl makes you rest, drowsy."
