Morphine for Chronic Pain "Very good medication (as they go) for chronic, intractable back pain. Works well with NSAIDs to keep pain at a tolerable level, without frequent dose changing. Needs to have a breakthrough med with it. Fast-acting morphine a good choice."

For Pain "I have been given no other choice but to self-medicate! I have a spot on my brain and a cyst on my brain stem and in my spinal column, in my neck from a car wreck that gives me intense pain, as well as headaches where I feel I would be better off dead and gone than to suffer while... no doctor in Kentucky will help, to them, everyone is a junkie! Which is just WRONG... I suffer to where a grown man sits and cries! So I will do what I have to do for pain relief! It helps when a man really needs it! I know I am not the only one!"

For Pain "I have 6 bad discs with degenerative bone and disc disease. I have been on Morphine Sulfate for over 5 years. I started on Methadone, then went to Oxy's. While the morphine still helps, the dosage is 30 mg x 3 daily, plus Norco 10/325, along with muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory medicines. I live a much more productive life. The morphine is awesome!"

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I have tried several different pain meds. I had 2 discs in my neck replaced in 2008 and have a neck fusion. I also have severe and chronic pain. It's unbearable at times. I take 60 mg ER, one in the morning and one at night. It's the only thing that lets me function, and Xanax 2 mg relaxes the muscles in my neck and back. I find it works better if I take 1 and lie down for about 20 minutes to let it work better, then I'm good 'til evening. I wouldn't be able to get out of bed without them. It really takes my pain away like nothing else ever. I've been on it for about 7-8 years."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I take it for chronic back and foot pain. I had been taking OxyContin ER, but insurance isn't covering that anymore. I am not a fan of short-acting meds, trying to stay on top of pain with them. MS Contin seems to be working only slightly less effectively than the OxyContin ER. More dry mouth, less sedating though. Both seem about equal on other side effects. I'm happy with it!"

Morphine for Chronic Pain "MS Contin 200 mg x2 am/2 pm, allows me to function more than without it. I'm actually out of bed more than before I started. I don't get the highs and lows of taking short-acting pain meds around the clock. I get a steady release of pain control. Of course, I have breakthrough Dilaudid 8 mg tabs as needed. I have chronic pain, multiple lumbar spine fusions, cervical spine compression (all levels). Currently advised to get total cervical fusion, but didn't get medical approval for surgery. This medicine is a life preserver!"

Morphine for Chronic Pain "It worked great on my Hyper-Mobility Syndrome! (All of my joints are 'double-jointed') which causes chronic pain for years and gets worse with age. The only side effect I've had is constipation. With Avinza, I actually have a better quality of life!"

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I have chronic back pain for 23 years following a fall down a flight of stairs. I ruptured 3 discs and fractured various vertebral areas in my lumbar and thoracic spine. I also have chronic Lyme disease, brucellosis, and I have developed fibromyalgia and chronic regional pain syndrome in both lower extremities. I have various types of paresthesia from burning to lancing. I have been on many types of Schedule II opioid pain medications from fentanyl, morphine, hydromorphone, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and methadone. The best relief and safest medication has been the morphine sulfate extended-release 200 mg every 12 hours with 30 mg oxycodone every 4 hours for breakthrough pain. I just wish it was less expensive since I do not have insurance."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "So, I was on 30 mg of MS Contin (morphine) two times a day for 6 months. Then they took me down to two 15 mg a day, and I complained. Now they give me this Morphabond two times a day, 15 mg. I'm on day 4 and have not gotten ANY relief AT ALL from this! The only relief I get is when I get to take a breakthrough oxycodone at 8-hour intervals! This medicine is useless! I even said I didn't think it was dissolving or something. Now reading the comments, no wonder people OD on this. It's NOT because they ABUSE them, it's because they aren't getting any of the meds that they are paying for! Then when I go back to pain management and they pee test me, they will say there's nothing there. Watch, because the stuff doesn't dissolve or get absorbed!! What a waste!!!"

Morphine for Chronic Pain "After trying Percocet, OxyContin, and several other types of pain medication, my doctor prescribed me Kadian, and by far, this is the best medication I have ever used for my chronic pain from lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. I am on the low dose of 10 mg, and it has outperformed the 40 mg OxyContin I was on."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "Two scripts (different mg) Kadian (brand only), therapeutic amount by far the best long-acting narcotic I've taken (with Lyrica, Topamax, Zanaflex, etc). Struck by lightning - neurological effects; fibromyalgia; thoracic outlet syndrome; spinal stenosis in cervical, thoracic, & lumbar. 3 level lumbar decompression - power wheelchair; thoracic spinal surgery, and so much more."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I have osteoarthritis from head to toe. At a visit, my rheumatologist stated I had reached a point where I needed more help than she could provide and wanted me to go to a pain clinic. I had never heard of them. I began going there, they took several vials of blood. They wrote a script for 10 mg of oxycodone for up to 4 a day. When I returned in 30 days, after reviewing my labs, they also wanted me to take MS Contin, 15 mg morning and night. I was told I would not feel the effect for about 2 weeks. I was about to give up, but one morning I got up and realized, wow, my pain was down. Since I have pain medicine in my system 24 hours a day, plus I can take my oxycodone as needed, my pain is much more controlled. I know I will never be pain-free, but it's okay."

Morphine for Pain "After reading so many people say that Kadian gave them so much relief from their chronic pain, I was willing to give it a try. I had been taking Oxycodone 30 mg 4 X's a day and felt amazing, but they are now trying to get rid of all Oxycodone and Oxycontin because it has become such an epidemic on the street. So, we had to switch to something else. She started me on Kadian 60 mg 2 X's a day with Percocet 10s every 6 hrs. The Kadian does absolutely nothing for my pain, so she increased it to 80 mg and still no relief. I have degenerative disc disease, a bulging disc, and fibromyalgia. Oxycodone was the only thing that seemed to help."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I was on a lot of pain medications but found myself on three 60 mg morphines and four 15 mg oxycodone until my doctor of 10 years moved when I was forced tapered down to 90 mgs a day of morphine. I was booted out of my pain place and tracked down my former doc, and he force tapered me down to 45 mgs a day of morphine, no breakthrough medicines. In the Midwest, we are being forced down to 45 mgs a day or 45 MME."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I have been taking Morphine Sulfate IR (MSIR) 30 mg for over twenty-eight (28) years, and it truly helps me with my breakthrough pain relief. I have tried other pain medications; however, they have never even taken the edge off of my pain."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I was prescribed 60 mg MS Contin twice a day, switching from the 50 mcg/hr fentanyl patch because of side effects problems and the fact it only works for the first two days. I was diagnosed with fairly severe osteoarthritis and degenerative disk disease last year at the age of 26. After wearing the patch for a few months, my natural pain tolerance nearly vanished. Now taking this MS Contin feels like taking aspirin or a small ER/CR hydrocodone dose."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "After trying Percocet, gabapentin, Hysingla, I tried Morphabond. It did nothing for my pain, and I was on 45 mg a day. It was less effective than Advil. I was in agony and couldn’t get out of bed by myself. Switched to Norco, and I am a different person now, almost pain-free. I’m not sure why this med didn’t help because it’s supposed to be stronger, and Norco is much lower, but for whatever reason, it didn’t work for me and was $200 a month for a year! I’m glad I switched as Norco is $6.81 a month."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I am 55 and have been on this long-acting medication for decades. It keeps my overall pain at a level but doesn't seem to conquer the severe bone pain. I have another med for breakthrough pain. I have had RSD for almost 30 years now, had endometriosis as well as fibromyalgia, DDD, spinal stenosis, post-Lyme arthritis, and adhesive arachnoiditis from the 14 years of constant epidural injections, one of which went very badly in 2007. Morphine ER saved my life. When the doctors decided to force taper me off both of my Rx opioids in 2018, due to the totally misread 2016 CDC guidelines, I simply wanted my journey to end. The pain was worse than I could ever explain, and I would only get 1 to 2 hours of sleep. I finally found a doctor in January 2020, and while, due to the overall stricter prescribing standards, my doctor could only prescribe a little bit each month until I finally got up to my dose of 60 mg, 3 times daily. This medicine is a godsend for my quality of living."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I have been diagnosed with MS for 20 years. And just recently had back surgery. I'm taking 30 mg morphine sulfate ER along with 10 mg Norco for breakthrough pain. I'm 4 weeks post-op and still having severe lower back pain, and the morphine does not seem to be touching the pain, which makes me take more breakthrough pain. Has anybody else had issues with morphine not helping?"

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I fractured C2 and C3 along with T4 and T5 in 1976. I had chronic pain, 7/10, for close to 20 years, 24/7. Finally, my doctor started me on a 'pain contract' taking MS Contin 60 mg a day, which went up to 100 mg twice a day because of my tolerance. I was at that level for about 10 years with 60 mg of Oxycodone X 2 a day. At this point in time, I have reduced the MS Contin to 45 mg once a day and 15 mg Oxycodone X 2 a day for BT pain, which works quite well for me. My level of pain has gone down from 7/10 and 8/10 to 4 and 5/10, and I have a decent quality of life again. I will most likely continue on this daily routine for a long time to keep my quality of life at these numbers."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "I had tried all the short-term meds, like hydrocodone, oxycodone, etc. Over half my back and neck, the pads in between the vertebrae are crushed or not there at all. My doctor put me on 60mg MS CONTIN 4 times in a 24-hour period, with hydrocodone as a breakthrough, short-term med. I need not say I rarely touch the hydrocodone. Sometimes I only take 2 or 3 MS CONTIN a day. MS CONTIN 60mg is the best long-term for me. Thank God for 60mg morphine, pain-free!"

For Pain "I broke my back in 2000, and I've had several compression fractures since then and now have developed osteophytes. I was in pain every day and couldn't work, so I ended up on disability. I recently started Morphine ER, and it has worked wonders. I no longer need to take 8-12 pills a day like I used to. It's been a godsend. I can get around much better and am relatively pain-free. I don't get drowsy or dizzy, in fact, I don't seem to have any side effects. My quality of life has improved significantly since I started this new medication. Thank goodness my doctor decided to try this. I will admit, after dealing with this for so long, I had lost hope it would get any better. I wish I had known about this years ago, better late than never."

Morphine for Chronic Pain "Dr. switched me to Morphine IR 15 mg every 6 hours and Morphine ET 15 mg every 12 hours. I have severe lumbar facet joint syndrome, and my left L5/S1 facet is so swollen it presses against my sciatic nerve at times. Now that I’m on Morphine IR, I have my personality back intact, and I have found some relief! I recommend a genetic test if you feel meds aren’t working. I was on Percocet, which activates the kappa receptor, which can cause dysphoria (my experience). If you must be on these types of medications, trust your body to tell you, and if all else fails - ask for a genetic test for pain. It can be a very helpful tool in avoiding meds that won’t work or give you unwanted side effects!"
