For Fatigue "Absolutely changed my life. Started in early August. I can't describe it, there is no euphoria, no speed. I wake up, take it, and just attack the day in a steady, calculated way. I used to drink a pot of coffee a day. I haven't had a cup of coffee since I started Provigil. I had all types of medicines for my anxiety and depression, ironically, this is what works. Weird, but the by-product of being so productive each day and the feeling I set and achieve obtainable goals eliminated my anxiety and depression overnight. The first day I took it, 30 minutes after it kicked in, it was like something finally just clicked. This medicine has changed my life. I had 12 types of medicines, I tossed them all, now just Provigil and one for high blood pressure."

Modafinil for Narcolepsy "Does nothing for my narcolepsy. I stay on it because the doctor told me to, and I’m not competent enough to know that it’s not working. Also, I look like a drug seeker if I mention anything, and I don’t agree with the doctor's recommendation. It gives me some anxiety, my body feels awake, but my head feels sleepy. Does nothing for the brain fog I get with my narcolepsy. Armodafinil works better."

For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "I haven’t seen my side effect listed. I sleep poorly. If I wake up and take a Modafinil, I immediately fall back into a profound sleep for 4 hours. This is weird and definitely not the point of taking the drug. On the other hand, it’s the type of deep sleep I can’t seem to get at night."

For Depression "Have been taking modafinil now for a month to help my depression and just progressed from a starting dose of 100 mg/d to 200 mg. So far I have found it to be very good. I’m 65, and for the past couple of years, I had been very apathetic about whether or not I went to work. Small tasks in life, to say nothing of some of the less pleasurable tasks at work, seemed overwhelming, so I would simply not do them, but not anymore. Interactions with superiors are a lot smoother. My psychiatrist initially prescribed modafinil as a drug to help stop using cocaine, and it is working. When I saw him the other day, I said, where has this medicine been all my life? So far, all effects seem positive, at least for me. Used online coupons to get a month’s supply for ~$25. However, prices vary widely even with coupons by pharmacy, from the price I pay to several hundred dollars a month. Otherwise, my insurance wouldn’t cover it, even if my psychiatrist had listed an “on-label” need for it."

For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "Was prescribed Modafinil for my fatigue, concentration issues, and memory issues. I started taking 100 mg the first 2 weeks. Then I increased to 200 mg. I feel no difference at all. I am just as tired, etc., as I am without it. I drink enough. I eat well. I'm not sleep deprived. It seems like it works well for many people, not for me."

For Fatigue "Modafinil worked great for me, at first, to be alert and increase productivity, until I was out of medication and my fatigue hit me like a freight train, stopping all productivity. The headaches were avoided when I stayed hydrated and only took it in the first half of the day. It controlled my appetite and even helped with weight loss and management. It sounds pretty good at first, but after a few months, I realized I was creating a bigger problem than I had before. Please do yourself a favor and only take it if and as prescribed by your doctor and well-monitored. There are a lot of miracle drugs and nootropics available out there if you search hard enough. This is not all that hard to come by and can have more risks and long-term negative effects than benefits if not taken properly. Please be careful and don’t make problems worse for yourself or others."

For Fatigue "I was diagnosed 7 years ago with Multiple Sclerosis. I have been very tired and kind of aggravated all the time because of it. My doctor prescribed Provigil (Modafinil) for me last year. It's a miracle for me. Really! It used to take all of my energy just to get up to walk to the sink for a drink. Now I power through a day of work alert and ready for more work. I'm a cleaner, so I need energy. The surprise was with this medicine, not only helped me to be more alert, awake, and focused but I've also been in a really great mood as well. Huge plus. Because I always felt angry and cranky. I was given 200 mg, however, I find that it's a bit too much and makes my heart race, so I break it in half and it's perfect."

For Depression "I have suffered with depression for 4 years and have tried so many drugs that I have lost count. I finally found a combination of drugs that were working, but not completely. My NP then added Provigil, and my depression resolved. I am able to get a lot done without feeling tired all of the time. However, I was on 200 mg and only had mild benefits. My NP increased the dose to 400 mg, and it has helped tremendously. It has given me more hope than I have had in years."

For Depression "I have a smart psychiatrist who sees a lot of folks with chronic fatigue and is very used to using modafinil. I've struggled with depression since I was a teenager, on and off. I'm now 71. It doesn't flare up often anymore, but when it does, I begin low-dose Prozac (10 mg) and then, if that doesn't do the trick, I augment it with low-dose (100 mg) Provigil. I have even been known to cut the tablet into quarters and have gotten some relief from that. It's kind of amazing. I don't like to use it often as I have a hard time sleeping in general, and Provigil tends to exacerbate that particular issue. But intermittently, it is a lifesaver. Life is too short to be feeling horrible."

For Depression "Within days of taking Provigil with another antidepressant, I was feeling so much better. I was starting a new job and really needed to be on top of things, not sad and teary-eyed. It gave me focus, energy, and a feeling of well-being, finally! Unfortunately, my current insurance will not okay it for treatment of depression, as that was not what it was originally used for. Very disappointing because it worked so well for so many years."

Modafinil for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "I am 60 years old and had been sleeping 12 hours per night with a nap sometimes for 3 hours. Am I depressed or chronically fatigued? I have been taking Provigil and now I sleep 9 hours a night with no naps. I am now more excited about life. Side effects? An hour after I take it (one dose 200 mg in the morning) I notice an effect similar to one cup of coffee that lasts a half hour then nothing. Cost is $390 for a thirty-day supply. Insurance won't cover it. Medicare will not cover it except for Narcolepsy. This is not related to Ritalin or amphetamines and has a very low abuse potential in spite of what you may hear from college students. As more info comes in, it would not surprise me that this would be the first drug used in treating depression. Thanks."

Modafinil for ADHD "I've been using Provigil in combination with Wellbutrin for my adult ADD. I'm almost 50 and was just diagnosed 3 years ago. I tried the stimulants and like the way they helped my concentration and focus, but I couldn't take them because of my high blood pressure. I've also tried Strattera, which worked really well, but again I couldn't deal with the side effects (not being able to urinate can be painful). Provigil really helps slow down my racing thoughts, but it doesn't seem to help with my concentration or distractibility. I take it first thing in the morning and usually can't get to sleep until midnight or 1:00 am. Luckily, I work at home, so that's not a real problem. I'm glad to see it's worked well for some of the others who have posted comments."

Modafinil for Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome "I have taken this medicine for sleep apnea and ADHD as a replacement for Ritalin, which I became addicted to for a few years. Provigil does not affect me the same way in terms of a desire to increase the dose and it is very effective for daytime wakefulness and for keeping my focus. I have had no negative effects from this - only positive. It is very expensive and if it weren't for insurance coverage, the medicine would cost $1,500 per month if out of pocket."

For ADHD "I take a prodrug of modafinil called adrafnil but has similar effects. I feel energetic, productive, smart, and speedy. This drug works wonders for depression and has made me feel euphoric. I recommend modafinil to anyone facing concentration and depression problems. I started a new job and have A's in school."

For Depression "I had this added to my antidepressant cocktail and I have to admit, it's given me more energy and increased my mood quite a bit. I was really surprised at its effectiveness for depression and depression-related fatigue. The only drawback for me is that I often get headaches when it starts to wear off. But overall, it's a good medicine!"

For Fatigue "I've been taking this medicine for over a year, and so far it's given me some energy. I still have to drink it with coffee to get the full effects from the drug. I had MS since I was 18 and am now 34. The only thing I have so far is extreme tiredness, so modafinil helps with that. I'd say it's a pretty good medicine for tiredness and when you can't stay awake. It helps me get stuff done."

Modafinil for Narcolepsy "I took Provigil for about 7 years. When I was working, my insurance covered it. I had no idea of the price. It is a wonderful medicine but way too expensive if you have to pay for it. Without any discounts, it's approximately $1,300 per prescription. I am on Medicare now and they will not cover it, so I am no longer taking it. It was great at keeping me from sleeping all the time and helped a lot with my depression. Perhaps the price will come down someday and I can start it again. Highly recommended."

For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "This med changed my life. I have several autoimmune diseases, and I am able to work a full day without the incredible fatigue that comes over me. I am forever grateful that I had a Dr. prescribe this game changer for me. I only use this drug when I work. I don't use it on my days off."

Modafinil for Shift Work Sleep Disorder "I have been on and off Provigil a couple of times over the past few years after being diagnosed with sleep apnea. I first started with 100 mg and a CPAP machine. I soon began to feel better, but the CPAP did not last because I kept ripping it off in the night. So, I ended both. Recently, I have gone back on Provigil, taking 200 mg for shift differential disorder because of the long shifts and my inability to stay awake and falling asleep driving. What a difference. I can stay awake for my 12-hour shift and the 1-hour drive each way to work. I feel if I had not gone back on it, I most likely would have wrecked to or from work by now. The only downfall is an occasional upset stomach if I don't eat before or immediately after taking it."

Modafinil for Narcolepsy "I took Provigil along with Adderall and felt the best ever. I was alert, not on too much Adderall, so I didn't feel bad from that. Then my insurance company wouldn't cover Provigil anymore, they pushed Nuvigil, and it made me sleepier."

For Fatigue "I have used Provigil - modafinil for more than 15 years for MS fatigue. It allows me to lead a normal life. Before I started using it, I said I would be happy to just sleep for the rest of my life. My insurance paid for it at first, but then stopped. I purchase it by prescription through internet."

Modafinil for Shift Work Sleep Disorder "Started night shift work again after being on days for 14 years. A friend told me about Provigil. Asked my doctor and got the prescription. Unbelievable! No drowsiness during the night, no spike and drop like caffeine or energy drinks, and fall right to sleep when I get ready to. I'm in the trucking industry and it's great."

Modafinil for Narcolepsy "I have narcolepsy, and I am currently taking 200 mg twice daily, and it barely works. My doctor added Ritalin 20 mg twice daily, and I have been on Ritalin for previous years until I moved to TX. In 2013, I was prescribed Vyvanse 70 mg, I believe. It didn't work better than the Ritalin or Adderall I tried while in TX. My doctor then prescribed Xyrem. Needless to say, none of these drugs have provided adequate relief from daytime sleepiness. I started Provigil in January 2016, and there's no change. I took Provigil about 10 years ago, and the same results. I need serious help because I barely function."

For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "I was a very active, energetic workaholic before getting CFS. Doing heavy physical labor and paperwork for 30 to 40 hours at a time was no problem for me. Then it hit. I was devastated. I spent $4,000 on tests and went to many doctors. Finally, I was diagnosed with CFS. He was doing a clinical trial on Provigil (modafinil) and the early results were so good he wrote me a prescription for it. When I restart taking it after not using it for a while (insurance company hassles), I start with a quarter tablet (50 mg) for a few days, then half a tablet for about a week, and then a 200 mg tablet per day. At times, two tablets per day give me a slight extra boost. With this, I get up to 10-20% of my previous energy levels. It's a blessing."
