For ADHD "I’m diagnosed with depression and ADHD. After various research, I asked my doctor if I could try modafinil, and he agreed, so I started taking it at the 100 mg dose. In the first days, this medicine felt like a miracle. I was extremely energized, focused, motivated, and happy in general. My only side effects were a lack of appetite and insomnia if I took this medicine too late. Unfortunately, this drug builds tolerance really fast, and after just 1 week, all those positive effects disappeared, and the drug didn’t have any effect anymore. I won’t advise taking this drug for long-term usage; however, if you space out your doses and take it 1-2 times a week, the effects will be much stronger and can help you go through the day, so maybe that’s the most appropriate strategy."

For Fatigue "Overall, not good. Worked great at giving me focus, but took my appetite away, and effects wore off after 5-6 hours when a headache kicked in. After about twenty uses, it made me come out in an itchy red rash in exactly the same places on face and neck, but worse each time. Threw them away after 3 episodes of this."

Modafinil for Narcolepsy "I was diagnosed with narcolepsy when I was 12 years old, but it was discovered during a sleep study in 2010 at a hospital in Denver, Colorado. I was told I had probably had the disorder my whole life. I am 18 years old now and struggle with this disorder every day. Provigil has helped quite a bit, but does have some cons. The lack of appetite will happen anytime you go off the medicine for even a period of 4 days, then go back on it. I also have built up a tolerance to the 200 mg, so it has started to wear off about 4 hours after taking it and is a very hard medicine to get the dosage upped on. Insurance companies will fight you the whole way. Also lost a substantial amount of weight when I first started the med."

Modafinil for Drowsiness "I have been on this medicine for 7 years and cannot imagine life without it. It doesn't seem to work for everyone, but is a lifesaver for me. I had a headache for 3 days when I started it and lost my appetite for a week. After that, it was fine. I can get by on 200 mg if I need to, but feel tired still most of the day (but won't fall asleep unless I want to). My usual dose is 300 mg, which keeps me alert, and I can't even take a nap if I want to."

For Fatigue "Helped me for my daily somnolence, concentration, social isolation, and depressed mood. The side effects I noticed were appetite loss and back pain. The bad thing is that I started to develop tolerance because I abused it, when it started to go off, I felt the need to take another, so I don’t recommend it for people with substance abuse. I began with 100 mg, and now I have to take 400 mg in order to feel awake, and sometimes it still doesn’t work. Please take the dose your doctor indicated you. Now I’m on a break in order to feel the same effect as I began, and I feel totally useless. So be careful."

For ADHD "I have ADHD, tried modafinil 100 mg, side effects, stomach upset, lost appetite, can't sleep at all for 2 days. Headache. Made me feel jittery, I felt all over the place, couldn't concentrate, actually. Also made me feel unsocial and in a bad mood. The only thing is, yes, you won't sleep. Gave it a try a few more times, don't like it. Sticking to Adderall, much better for ADHD!!!"

For Narcolepsy "I have taken Provigil off and on since 2000, for narcolepsy/apnea. I started with the 200 mg per day but discovered that my brain required more. Since increasing my dosage to 400 mg per day, I have fewer daytime sleep concerns. I have not experienced any appetite changes and have certainly not lost any weight. This medication allows me to function just enough to keep my job and have a somewhat normal social life. No matter what dosage I take, my brain/body will shut down at approximately 6:00 pm, and on the days I don’t take the medication, I pretty much sleep all day. I’ve made lifestyle changes, such as eating better, increased cardio, and strength training, just as a supplement to the medication and CPAP therapy."

Modafinil for Narcolepsy "I was recently diagnosed with narcolepsy and started on Provigil. I started with 100 mg in the morning and then 100 or 150 mg in the afternoon. The first few days I was a little dizzy at first, a little nauseous, lost my appetite, had a mild headache every night (ibuprofen took care of that), and tense jaw/neck muscles. It was working great, but once I started classes (i.e., inactivity), I was falling asleep sometimes before my noon dose and every day around 6 pm or 8 pm. So, my doctor upped it to 200 in the morning and 200 after noon. For all 3 days of it, I was awake, only crashing around 8 pm, but I was having problems with my memory and concentration. Just switched to Ritalin."

For Narcolepsy "I was put on Provigil at the age of 12, and it worked sometimes, but I lost insurance after hitting 18. Then I was able to get back on it at 20. Now I've been taking it for 3 years and going. 200 milligrams 1 time when I wake up, sometimes 3 due to tolerance. I do road construction and operate heavy machines like Bobcats, trucks, and rollers, but I still fall asleep when we move to the next job (not driving). I also use marijuana to help balance the shakes. It works wonders for me. You might just have to bump up the dosage. I do this at 50 mg plus until it works. Never went past 600 mg though. Only bad effect is a lot of aggression and mania, loss of appetite."

Modafinil for Narcolepsy "Over 2 months on Provigil. Still tired, can't remember words, yawn all day. Only side effect was appetite suppressant, which is all I felt. Waiting for Dr. to prescribe something else."

Modafinil for Narcolepsy "Provigil made me lose my appetite at first. I lost about 20 pounds. The energy was great for a few months, but it lost its effectiveness. It only took me four months to reach the maximum dose."

For ADHD "As a kid, I was on Ritalin, without it, I would have flunked. Once I reached my mid-20s, the famed ADHD depression kicked in, and I spent 10 years on anti-depressants. Work-wise, I 'grew out' of my concentration problems, BUT it came back recently, and I lost all focus. All I did at work was daydream for months. I code all day, and no, this is not a magic pill to motivate you, you don't feel anything. Nothing at all... BUT, I am sitting down at my desk and I'm typing. I still get distracted with the office chat, and I don't get the unrelenting hyper-focus others describe, but they are helping. My mood is more level, dopamine is dopamine, my mood is neither up nor down, or numb. I feel balanced but still like myself. I gave it 7 stars because my appetite vanishes and I get a dry mouth. When the effects subside, I grow very hungry very quickly."
