For Fatigue "I had been taking Provigil for about 5 years, then the insurance company would not pay for it any longer as it is very expensive. So, I started to take it in generic form, which is Modafinil. It did not work as well, but it was better than nothing. I continued to take the Modafinil for a couple of years and then my pharmacy switched manufacturers to Aurobindo. There was a definite difference in side effects with this company's product. It did not work, but seemed to have an opposite effect. Also, it made me feel fuzzy-headed, flu-like symptoms, headache, dizzy, all kinds of bad. I called my insurance company, and after speaking to 3 people, I had Provigil approved. I am now free of all the bad side effects of Aurobindo Modafinil. My advice, get Provigil and don't take no for an answer."

For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "I am 29 years old, female, and have chronic fatigue due to depression and rheumatoid arthritis. This drug seemed like the perfect cure, but it gave me pretty unwanted side effects, including worsening of depression, panic, dizziness, blurred vision, headaches, worsening of fatigue, dazed, would have words on the tip of my tongue sometimes that would take like 30 seconds to remember what I wanted to say, and muscle tension, extreme anger at people and myself, and increased joint pain. So the 2 hours it would actually increase my energy. All these side effects are NOT worth it."

For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome "Started taking modafinil 2-3 weeks ago to help my lack of get up and go; it has helped, I’m more active throughout the day. Past week or two when I sit up in bed in the morning I’ve had sort of dizziness or unsteadiness; one reported side effect is “feeling that everything around me is moving,” something like that. It’s mild and soon disappears, but is worrying. I decided to quit it, but the next morning the dizziness was less, quickly disappeared, so I am continuing it."

For Narcolepsy "Diagnosed with narcolepsy at 14 after Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) had me asleep in 40 seconds. My type is severe narcoleptic without cataplexy. Provigil gave me my life back so I can complete school! On it for 7+ years. I take a high dosage in the morning (after eating), sleep immediately afterward to get rid of dizziness/mental fog, wake up an hour+ later with massive energy for the day. Did well, but best results when I started doing a sport regularly along with Provigil (not as effective when I was inactive). Tips: Provigil increases alertness/energy level, not a full cure. I take 1-2 hour naps after eating/exercising/awake too long. Learned to plan sleep schedule around activities. Expensive, but getting cheaper. Initially paid $1,200 a month. Insurance covered modafinil after Adderall, Xyrem, Ritalin, Nuvigil failed and 'midday fallout' happened during first few months because my dosage was too low. Doctor increased my dosage and I began keeping a very consistent schedule, and it went away."

Modafinil for Narcolepsy "I was recently diagnosed with narcolepsy and started on Provigil. I started with 100 mg in the morning and then 100 or 150 mg in the afternoon. The first few days I was a little dizzy at first, a little nauseous, lost my appetite, had a mild headache every night (ibuprofen took care of that), and tense jaw/neck muscles. It was working great, but once I started classes (i.e., inactivity), I was falling asleep sometimes before my noon dose and every day around 6 pm or 8 pm. So, my doctor upped it to 200 in the morning and 200 after noon. For all 3 days of it, I was awake, only crashing around 8 pm, but I was having problems with my memory and concentration. Just switched to Ritalin."

For Narcolepsy "I was diagnosed with type 2 narcolepsy and prescribed 100 mg Modafinil. The first two weeks were riddled with side effects: dizzy, unbelievably dehydrated with drinking 48 oz of water daily, miserably red, dry eyes, but marginally awake for a few hours. Months later, I was up to 200 mg 2x/daily, and I found that so long as I drink at least 64 oz of water and get 90 minutes of rigorous exercise each day, I feel more like myself. Once it built up in my system and the side effects subsided, it's kind of like a small cup of coffee running in the background for seven or eight hours. So long as I get plenty of exercise before and after work and stay hydrated throughout the day, it generally gets me through most of the workday."

For Narcolepsy "Increases my energy but leaves me with a headache all day that by the time I'm off work, I am miserable. It also gives off a sluggish feeling, like being under the influence of alcohol to a certain degree... light-headed/dizziness kind of thing. Hard to focus."
