For Depression "So I’ve been taking mirtazapine for a while after being hospitalized for anxiety and depression, and it helps knock me out to sleep good and stop waking up in the middle of the night. It makes you sleep a lot, and it’s hard for me to want to get up to go to classes. It makes me feel really tired throughout the day, but it does help with anxiety and depression. I’m overweight, and I’m kinda scared it will make me gain even more. It makes me more hungry all the time."

For Anxiety "I just started this medicine two weeks ago. I'm 5'5" and 99 lbs. I was suffering from extreme anxiety. I've used one to two mg of Xanax to sleep for years. The sleep doctor I see decided to add Remeron to the Xanax, and I'm so pleased with the results in so far as anxiety and especially my appetite. I've gained 5 lbs in the first two weeks and would like to get back to about 118 lbs or so."

For Insomnia "Remeron is great for insomnia. Start with very small doses and work up. I use the dissolving tablets, they are easier to break up. It immediately stopped my anxiety. The drawbacks are increased appetite, and after prolonged periods of consumption, it can affect your blood pressure regulation, mostly noticeable when you stand up fast. It is excellent for stopping the racing thoughts. It can be difficult waking up in the beginning, but this gets better with time. It also suppressed my sex drive. All in all, it is excellent for those who have tried everything, gotten hooked, suffered withdrawals from the 'pines,' and need something for sleep."

For Depression "Remeron has helped me a great deal. It has helped me sleep, which was non-existent for such a long time, and I can finally function during the day. Whoever created Remeron needs to be congratulated because nothing - and I tried almost everything imaginable to sleep - has made me able to get some rest. My physical health has benefited from the rest a great deal. The only side effect I have gotten is hunger at night when I take it, but it is a very small price to pay that can be fought off. I have not gained any weight, but I do get hungry easily, though. I am on 45 mg, and it is wonderful, I can sleep and then get up and actually want to do things. I am on it with Cymbalta, which helps with my fibromyalgia. I highly recommend it."

For Depression "Took Remeron/mirtazapine a few years ago for about one week and gained about 15 (unwanted pounds). I just ate and slept, so I stopped after a week! Was taking it first thing in the morning at the time, but this doc said to take it at night. I need the appetite stimulation now, so I'm prescribed it again. Don't know if I could handle the ravenous, uncontrollable appetite it gives, though, and don't remember the effect on my depression as I was too consumed with eating."

For Depression "Been on 45 mgs of Remeron for 2 months, which enables me to get some sleep. Everyone is different because nothing else really worked for me. With the exception of Seroquel, but I had to be on a ridiculously high dose (600 mgs). Remeron has caused me to eat more than I usually do. I just hope that it continues to work."

For Depression "Remeron 15 mg worked so well for me! Stick with it - it takes a few weeks, but it works. The only reason I can't give it a 10 is because I'm hungry all the time and have no libido. Thank you, God, for helping me get through this time and for this medication."

For Insomnia "Really good for sleep. I don't like it as an antidepressant, however. It makes me too hungry, and when I took it for an entire month, I did not like the effects it had on me. I only use it for sleep occasionally, however, I do begin to build up a tolerance if I take it too many nights in a row."

"I had a very mixed experience with Remeron for insomnia. I’ve been on it for three years now. It’s been a godsend for my insomnia. I had tried Seroquel, Trazodone, Ambien, melatonin, Benadryl… no luck. I’m on 30 mg taken at night. Without fail, an hour after taking it, I feel INTENSELY tired, I have to fight just to stay awake - which is good. It puts me to sleep every time. No morning drowsiness either. Here’s why I’m discontinuing my Remeron: every single time, right when the Remeron sleepiness kicks in, so does an absurdly intense and uncontrollable hunger. The kind of appetite that physically can’t be ignored. It’s agonizing to try and resist it. So, I binge. Every single night, Remeron causes me to binge. I have gained a significant amount of weight over the last year (50+ pounds) due to this insatiable appetite. It was life-changing for my insomnia and helped a bit with depression too, but I must say… farewell, Remeron. Thanks for the good sleep."

For Insomnia "Remeron worked great for my insomnia and also eliminated anxiety better than any other medicine I have tried. However, it made me hungry constantly. The resulting weight gain resulted in diabetes and high blood pressure and exacerbated my sleep apnea. I had to stop taking it because of these adverse effects. Unfortunately, I've not found an acceptable alternative."

For Depression "I was prescribed this medication for insomnia and depression. It worked great for the insomnia the first six months, but then it no longer worked. I'm too sensitive to SSRIs, so I thought this would be a great match until it stopped working. Also, it makes you perpetually hungry and prone to gain weight."

For Insomnia "I have been taking Remeron for about two months now, and it doesn't help me go to sleep, but it does help me stay asleep. I have to literally force myself to get up in the morning. It does make me eat more, though, and that is the only side effect that I have noticed so far, but overall, it's been working great."

For Anxiety "I suffer from insomnia and anxiety and was prescribed this as a sleep aid in a hospital once, which is when I discovered the pill's wonderful added bonus as having a slightly noticeable anti-anxiety effect. Usually, doctors mention that when prescribing a new medicine, but this really was a great bonus. I just didn't like the weight gain, total mind/body grogginess, and increased hunger all the following day. So I appreciated the anxiety effect and the help with sleep, but those effects (when the pill is taken for a few months) slowly fade and no longer help. I pop one every so often when I need sleep now, but cannot rely on sleep medicines anymore due to such hangovers, so I am off all nighttime medicines now. But this drug wasn't too bad for a while. Just be prepared to lose your tiny figure!"

For Depression "This medicine makes me sleep too much. It's great for insomnia, but I do not need ten hours of sleep a night. That just makes me more depressed. Then I have some body zaps, and I have another medical condition that it affects. I may stop taking it. I think it has increased my appetite just a bit. I ate five pieces of toast one night and four the next morning."

For Anxiety "Was on Remeron for 3 months. It worked at first, as I noticed anxiety lessening, but after three months it has lost its efficacy. My anxiety skyrocketed, and Remeron has done nothing for it. Thank goodness I didn't have any side effects from the Remeron, aside from increased appetite. I think Remeron should be used for depression and not anxiety, so if anxiety is your major issue, I'd go with an SSRI."

For Insomnia "As a sleep aid, it is good, however, the abnormal and lucid dreams have caused some days to be clouded due to the 'feel' from the nights before. I have also experienced crazy 'sleep talking' to the point where my boyfriend can actually have full-on conversations with me while I'm sleeping and dreaming. Weight gain has been substantial due to what I call a ravenous hunger."

For Major Depressive Disorder "The first night I took it, I slept for 16 hours straight (15 mgs). When I finally forced myself to get out of bed, I had this insatiable appetite. I also walked around like a zombie, feeling groggy for the next day and a half. I took it on a Saturday night, knowing that I didn't have to be anywhere the following day (good thing). Needless to say, I stopped taking it."

For Insomnia "Woke up with very blurry vision for 3 hours. It was scary! It made me sleep well, but the appetite increase was horrific. I literally thought about food the whole day. Did not take again. I have a spinal condition and could have easily put on 20 lbs in a month on this, that is if I could find the fridge with my blurry vision. This is a common side effect of this medicine."

"I was on Remeron for anxiety and insomnia, and honestly, I wish I hadn't gone off it. The main reason my doctor took me off of it was that I was having bad nightmares, but every sleep medication I take seems to give me weird dreams. It did increase my appetite and gave me a lot more energy. I really wished I never went off this medication, maybe I would try it again. It helped me sleep and did help my anxiety."

For Depression "I started taking Remeron 15 mg nightly in April of this year for depressive symptoms of borderline personality disorder, and I don't know if it was placebo or something, but I swear within the first few days my entire perception of time changed. My days went from blurring by to slowing down, and I had the energy to do more. Shortly after I started taking Remeron, I started a nightly routine of reading, making tea, and showering, and felt so much better than I ever had before. I had gained a little weight from my appetite increasing massively, but then I started taking Strattera for inattention symptoms, and they pretty much canceled each other out since my appetite became so much smaller. My only issue with Remeron, and this is something I get with a lot of the meds I've taken, is that it started to wear off after about the fourth month of taking it. I recently had it increased to 30 mg, so I'm giving it a few weeks to kick in again. Overall, my experience has been really good with Remeron, better than any other antidepressant I've taken."

For Insomnia "Well, it works. Prescribed 7.5 mg prior to bedtime, and it will take you down-initially. Found it wasn't effective at that dose beyond a week or so and reminded me of trazodone or doxepin. Those who know are familiar with the overly sedated feeling and nothing like a natural, drowsy sleep onset. Fairly cheap, made me gain weight due to increased appetite."

For Depression "I've been on Mirtazapine for 10 months. It doesn't help to lift my mood, but it was put in place to help with my insomnia I had from my CFS. I've been on 15 mg, 30 mg, and 45 mg, none of these helped with my depression. But it did help me to sleep for 8 months on 30 mg. The only bad side effect was it made me extremely hungry, and I put on 2 stone. 15 mg was the most sedating - although that's even stopped working for me now."

For Depression "I started this for depression and insomnia, mostly the insomnia. When I first started taking this, I pretty much slept 3 days straight. I have not noticed any difference in my depression or anxiety during the day and am 15 pounds heavier. I want to stop taking this, but my doctor won't replace it with anything else to help me sleep. I am hungry constantly, I can't stop eating. It would be worth it if it helped my depression and anxiety."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Within 15 mins of taking it (at night) without fail, I became extremely hungry. Now, after three months of taking it, I can recognize it. I've gained weight because this is also used as an appetite stimulant. I don't eat now after I take it."
