For Depression "I was taking mirtazapine for around a year and had I been in a better space I would have gotten off it as soon as I realized it was causing certain effects on me. Minor side effects: sluggishness, major weight gain. I was prescribed this medication due to having poor sleep, but it made me have vivid awful dreams - sleep paralysis multiple times a night. I used to sleep for 14+ hours, usually in the day due to being worried about falling asleep for the nightmares. It caused me to miss lots of university - I was so tired and drowsy I could not physically get up. I wish I had been able to understand the effect it was having on my body and stop them sooner. I was severely suicidal. I made plans almost daily, even walking to the shop I thought about walking in front of buses. It was a truly awful time in my life, made worse by a medication which did not suit me. I’m glad it has worked for some, but if anyone I knew personally were to tell me they were taking it, I would advise them not to."

For Major Depressive Disorder "30 mg dosage. What to possibly expect based on my experience. Day 1: I was extremely tired. If I let my head hit the pillow, I would experience microsleep. I felt a little dizzy at times. Be careful around stairs if you suffer from vertigo. Functionality was delayed - my mind was in a cloud and it was difficult to work or concentrate on something that required deep attention. Day 2: I felt hungover. Hypersensitive to sounds, meaning that my mind would abnormally jolt to a greater sense of attention to a noise than before. The dizziness remained but at a decreased level. Day 3: Almost normal; just slightly tired."

For Depression "I have been on Remeron for a little over 3 months for depression and anxiety. It has changed my life after years of insomnia and depression. I think I finally found what works for me. The first couple of weeks are rough though, I felt tired all the time, especially the first day, I slept 21 hours! It gets better after about 3 weeks. I am depression-free, and I sleep a whole lot better than I used to. If you are afraid of the side effects, don't worry, they will diminish after about a couple of weeks... just stick it out, it's well worth it. I have taken almost every antidepressant in the books, and Remeron is the only one that has worked for me. I think you should give it a try, it works for a lot of people!"

For Depression "Remeron is a unique medicine, since its side effects are sometimes as useful as its antidepressant effects. This medicine literally saved my life. For many years, I was around 90 pounds, and never slept. Now, I'm a healthy 120 and I sleep about 8 or 9 hours per night. It did take a long time to get to this point. When I first started taking it, I was tired all the time and very worried about the ravenous hunger! But now that I've been on it 2 years, I no longer gain weight, I'm no longer tearful and miserable, and I've honestly never been happier. God bless the people who made this drug. It literally saved my life."

For Depression "I have taken 15 mg Remeron for about 5 days so far and it already is a miracle pill for me. I am slightly underweight and had constant anxiety, but so far this medication has vastly improved my appetite and I just feel relaxed, but not in a drugged feeling way. I actually enjoy food and am no longer as picky of an eater as I was before, which is awesome. It also helps with sleep, as it certainly has a sedative effect after you take it. I was really groggy and tired the first day after I took it, but have been fine and energized every day since. I know every medication affects people differently, but if you are depressed and not worried about weight gain, give this a shot."

For Depression "I have several issues and was given Remeron along with Seroquel and Tegretol. I take it at night and I sleep now, it's pretty amazing, but I'm so tired after taking it that I can't keep my eyes open no matter what. In the 3 weeks I have been on it, I have gained 3 lbs, which is awesome for me. I hope the sleepiness dies down some as it is a bit strong for me, but overall this is a great medicine."

For Depression "I was prescribed 7.5 mg Remeron along with 50 mg of Zoloft. I've only taken two doses, and it left me in a zombie state for two days. I slept, but I slept from 11 pm to 11 am, which is obviously unrealistic. Even after I woke up, I felt out of it, as if I was on drugs almost, and was exhausted all day. I also felt like my thinking was off and like I couldn't even form a sentence, it is very terrifying. It is almost like my brain can't process what is going on in front of me, even my vision felt off. I don't plan on taking this anymore."

For Depression "At first, I took Remeron and I was knocked out for a full day. I was underweight and had panic anxiety. This really helped me. After the first day, my body seemed to adjust to Remeron and by the 3rd day, I didn't have any tired feeling at all. It definitely helped me with sleep. I am now on 30 x 2 tabs a day and have been on this for years. I am actually afraid to get off of it. It has helped me through very difficult times."

For Major Depressive Disorder "No matter how much sleep I got, I was constantly tired. I could barely function during the day. And when I was functioning, I wanted to eat everything. In 2 months, I ended up gaining 15 lbs, which definitely did not help with the depression."

"I’d actually give Remeron a 9.5/10 for insomnia and anorexia. It has been amazing for me, personally. But I’ll say this first: I can’t give it a perfect score because I take only a 1/4 tab (tabs are 7.25 mg, I believe) of it every night before bed, and it makes me a little tired the next morning after waking up. But either way, I’ll take it! With that being said, I sleep so well. Turns out anxiety (and depression) kept waking me up at night. But with Remeron, I go into a deep sleep and don’t wake up till it’s time to do so. I dream like crazy, too (good thing). Not sleeping had kept me in a vicious depressed cycle. Sleeping is extremely important and can affect your mood. Remeron takes care of both: appetite and sleep. It’s a wonder drug! Although, I do crave sweets a lot, but again, I’ll take it!"

"Remeron was the third medication I tried for new onset of anxiety and panic attacks. I had never experienced anything like this in my life, I was desperate for help. I tried Buspirone, but it didn’t really work well, and I had dizziness and ringing in my ears. I tried Prozac and had horrible side effects of panic. Lexapro made me extremely tired and caused headaches. I took at-home blood tests to see what meds would work best. Finally, I tried Remeron. I had bad dry mouth for a few weeks and at each dose increase, but it got better over time. It helped to split the dose: 15 mg in the morning and 30 at night. It has helped a lot with my anxiety and gave me my appetite and sleep back. I had to take a low dose of Ativan as needed while my Remeron dose was being titrated. So now I only take Ativan a few times a month and not every day! I am so thankful for that. I don’t like being on medications, but I knew I needed it at least until I get through this tough time in my life."

For Depression "So I’ve been taking mirtazapine for a while after being hospitalized for anxiety and depression, and it helps knock me out to sleep good and stop waking up in the middle of the night. It makes you sleep a lot, and it’s hard for me to want to get up to go to classes. It makes me feel really tired throughout the day, but it does help with anxiety and depression. I’m overweight, and I’m kinda scared it will make me gain even more. It makes me more hungry all the time."

For Depression "This Remeron has legit saved my life after suffering with BPD, GAD, PDD, PTSD. At first, it made me very sleepy and tired, but after taking it for some time, I felt tired but not to the point of passing out tired. I started at a dose of 7.5 mg Remeron and worked up to a 30 mg dose, and when I did, my mood stabilized, and I started to feel better than how I did before. I still have intense moods, but not to the degree as I used to."

For Anxiety "I was suffering extreme anxiety, weight loss, and insomnia due to a diagnosed medical condition. I tried several sleep aids and SSRIs. Nothing worked. Because of the weight loss, I was prescribed Remeron. It was a miracle for me! I slept through the night for the first time in months, relieved anxiety, and I started gaining weight. Over time, my anxiety went away, but I stayed on because I loved having an appetite (I had no appetite for years). I guess I stayed on too long. After 6 years, I decided I should get off. I was dependent. I suffered flu-like symptoms for weeks-nausea, exhaustion, gastrointestinal upset, feeling like a low-grade fever. I finally got rid of the nausea, but if I'm off for 2 weeks, the gastrointestinal upset creeps in. I now take 3.25 mg 1X a week."

For Depression "I've been on Effexor for several years and suffered severe sexual effects, so I went to the doc and he started me on Remeron. For the last three years, I've been training cardio 5-6 times a week, had lost 10 kg, and felt quite proud of my body. Now, at just over three months on Remeron, I started feeling my clothes getting tighter, am feeling fat, bloated, and lethargic. I can't train with the intensity I am used to and just want to go to bed earlier and earlier. I weighed myself the other day and, to my horror, found I'd put on 11 kg. I don't feel I've been eating much more than I used to. Of course, the realization that I've lost everything I've worked for in recent years has made me feel pretty bad, and I'm not sure I want to continue."

For Depression "I tried various antidepressants for years, including therapy and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). I also took clonazepam for anxiety. For about two years, I was a mess, extremely tired, very anxious, and miserable. Thoughts of suicide were very frequent. My psychiatrist told me to get a second opinion. Very hard to do when you feel awful, but keep on trying, hoping there will be a better cocktail around the corner. I now take Zoloft 100 mg in the morning and Remeron 30 mg before bedtime (clonazepam very seldom). It makes me very tired, and I feel strange, although there were a few times that it really helped. Zoloft and Remeron did it for me. I sleep great and feel much better. Keep alcohol at a minimum. Best of luck."

For Depression "Remeron helped me sleep right away, and I took 15 mg for 6 months. I decided to lower it to 7.5 mg because I suspected it was causing high blood pressure. I put on 20 pounds while taking this medication, but I also take lithium and losartan, and they can also cause weight gain. I was on 7.5 mg for 4 months and still slept well and had no major side effects. Then I noticed my sex drive was less, and I could not reach orgasm. When I complained about that to my psychiatrist, she offered a switch to trazodone. I decided not to switch, but rather to end my use of antidepressants. I feel the lithium I take is enough to keep me from being manic and losing sleep. I tapered to 3.75 mg for 5 days and then quit. I felt tired and had a dull headache for that week. Then, 7 days after stopping all the Remeron, I had an awful night. I sweat, I was nauseous, and I felt unwell. The strangest symptom of withdrawal was/is the vibrating in my eardrums. It's already easing up after a couple of days."

For Depression "If you have insomnia and lack of hunger, this drug may be a godsend for you. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience for me. Literally made me sleep 11+ hours, made me super groggy and tired the entire day. The drowsiness and tiredness made my daily activities and work so hard to do."

For Depression "I have been getting better sleep. Certainly feel less edgy than when I was on Zoloft. Still feel tired, but I am sure after consistent use that will go away."

For Depression "TLDR: Alleviated body panic and sleeping issues. Do not take if you already have issues managing symptoms of depression. I was prescribed this for PTSD and because my sensitivity to noise disrupted my sleep. Sudden noises produced a sort of 'fight or flight' response from my body that was typically followed by an emotional response. Remeron dials down that nervous response. I haven't woken to footsteps while on it and I have become significantly less sensitive to surprises. Beware, your body will take time to get used to this medication. For the first week, I was horribly lethargic. After that, I had issues with anger and rage-filled outbursts. Always keep in mind that drugs are just a fraction of what it takes to be mentally well. To all reading this, I love you and I'm proud of you for being here."
