"Taking 15 mg for a month. For me, the benefits didn't outweigh side effects. I would be so tired, didn't have the energy to do household tasks. Also had headaches, depression, felt blah, mouth sores, stomach acid, even though taking folic acid too. Both of my hands would break out in itchy blister bumps for a couple of days right after taking the dosage. Refuse to take again."

"My experience was terrible. I had a bad reaction to taking methotrexate. I couldn't eat, my mouth and my gums were covered in blisters, I was tired, I couldn't get out of bed for three days, and I lost my appetite-not good when you're type 1 diabetic. On day four, I had diarrhea, and I stopped taking it straight away."

"I started injecting methotrexate after the doctor felt the pill dosage was too low. I would inject once a week, and then I'd get nausea and fatigue to the point of incapacity. It would take 3 days to recover from the injection, for about two days of feeling a little relief from my psoriatic arthritis symptoms."

"From my personal experience, it made me much more likely to get sick, only slowed the progression of PA, and even then it still progresses. Does nothing about the pain. When considering the fact that it does nothing but slow the progression, sort of, and makes me much more likely to get sick, I would say this is not worth taking and would rather take something else, which I am now."

"I had psoriasis on my hands and feet initially started in 2018. I went for many therapies and wasted money, time, and effort. Things went worst. Hands and feet had white patches - very dirty looking and hundreds of bleeding cuts which I started tying on with bandages and gloves. Then came methotrexate - I got okay within months. Took it for 1.5 years and then phased off in 2020. In 2023, psoriasis returned in my bones - in pelvis and shoulders... acute pain that increased with whatever meds I took. All my tests are normal (in fact more than normal... no RA, ENA, ANA, etc..) so my doctor again has put me back on methotrexate along with DomDT and Folic acid. Plus, a NSAID and I'm 100% sure it would help me."

"Helped reduce psoriasis but not sure if helped with arthritis. Horrible side effects and considering if it’s worth it! Headaches, low mood, extreme fatigue lasting days, emotional, general feeling of being unwell, body aches, sore eyes, breathing differently, tighter sensation on chest, and feeling like I have less breath. Overall, I’m feeling this may not be for me!"

"I started on 15 mg, now on 20 mg, and it's been quite good! The side effects eased off after the first few weeks, and the pain was 99% gone in 3 months; the skin cleared up fully too, which is great, although the joints were my primary issue. I still get quite severe morning stiffness and swelling, but having no pain has improved my life quality so much. I wish it had been prescribed earlier. I am going through a flare now (clearly the cold winter is not agreeing with me :D), so it is not a cure; however, I wonder how bad it would be without methotrexate."

"My first med after failing to respond to NSAIDs since diagnosed with spondyloarthritis. Liver enzymes gone up a bit and some mild hair loss, but no other side effects after 8 months on it. The drug provided only partial/intermittent control of the arthritis, though."

"I started this 1 year ago via injection. Dose of 30 at first and now I'm at 50. I love this med so far. Never had psoriasis skin issues, just the bad joint pain. The first month or two were hard. No appetite, super sleepy for 2 days after the weekly injection. This goes away after a few weeks. Side effects after dosage increase suck, but after a couple weeks I'm okay and just a little sleepy for 24 hours. And as long as I don't lose a lot of hair or have any serious side effects, I will continue this medication. When you first start, the side effects for some are not great. If you stick with it for a couple months, it gets better. It absolutely made a difference in my pain."

"At first, it was absolutely horrible. Twice I went to urgent care to get tested for COVID-19 and strep throat. A week apart. I had a horrible headache, mouth sores, and blisters in my throat, top of my mouth, and tongue. I started losing my hair in clumps. I called my rheumatologist the second week I took it because, by the weekend, I had the same symptoms as the previous week. They said to lower the dose by half. Things were better, but I still have fatigue, but that could be from the disease. I still lose more hair than normal, but not nearly as bad. It has been over a year since I started it. I take two other medications to try to keep inflammation under control. I have a huge problem with being told my blood work numbers look great, but I still feel like crap and have severe pain, and that is supposed to be normal. I get no idea on what to do to improve. Just listen to your body. Should I exercise? I get a shoulder shrug. Should I avoid certain things or foods? Shoulder shrug. Use heat or a cold pack, shoulder shrug. Listen."

"I have had minor ill effects from methotrexate at this point. I get a rash on my lower legs. Not even sure if it is caused by the drug. Without methotrexate, I have trouble functioning comfortably. I have quit taking it several times because I was worried about side effects, but always end up going back. I take 4 pills on Monday, and 4 pills on Tuesday every week, that's it."

"I take it by injection once a week. I really don’t notice a lot of improvement. I still have about the same level of discomfort and aching in my hands, but don’t require nearly the amount of anti-inflammatory drugs. I have now noticed a rash that has been described under side effects, but whether it is the drug or not, I don’t know."

"Have had extreme stomach gas and discomfort to the point of not wanting to leave the house. It cured the skin condition but not sure why I am still taking it as I feel it is not helping anymore. I have been on it for 3 months."

"I have psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, and a few other issues. I have been taking methotrexate since late 1976. I think I was among the first 'platoon' after it went off protocol. I started with 27 mg weekly and stayed with it until 2001 when UNWISELY I went off it when I started Enbrel. BAD DECISION because I did not keep a log of changes to my body that Enbrel could not stop; e.g., excess bone growth around the right heel, progressive damage to the first MCP in the left hand, enhanced destruction of both TMJs, further restrictions in all vertebrae (esp neck, sacral, and sternum). I resumed methotrexate in 2005 or so but by injecting one mg subcutaneously. I have had no more rapid or painful progression in my arthritis, but then how bad can it get?"

"On methotrexate for one year. It is a love/loathe kind of relationship with this drug. I am on a two-week drug holiday and see I really need something, but only having 2-3 days out of the week feeling good is a hard sell. I take 25 mg per week via injection. Have been using Zofran for the nausea and vomiting. It works sometimes. I think I am ready to try something else."
