For Psoriasis "I have an autoimmune disease and at the age of 65 developed sudden onset psoriasis on my body (arms, neck, chest, legs, ankles, scalp). Within one month of methotrexate treatment (0.05 cc once a week) the psoriasis was noticeably disappearing. I have been taking a weekly dose for six months now and have had excellent results. I am also taking folic acid and have blood testing done about every 45 days. At this point, I have had no adverse side effects and am grateful that I have relief from the psoriasis. In addition, the drug has given me moderate relief from hand and foot joint pain."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Started taking methotrexate 24th November 4 x 2.5mg weekly. Didn't feel too bad until Sat 3rd December and felt really ill. I had the flu jab as well, hopefully things will improve but I was in bed from Saturday until today, and I have a taste of metal in my mouth. I can't eat and haven't enjoyed a cup of tea. I also take the folic acid. I have lost 4 lb in weight since Saturday."

For Psoriatic Arthritis "Was on methotrexate for 5 months for Psoriatic Arthritis (PA). The drug completely cleared my skin but did not help at all with joint inflammation. Pain increased while on the drug, and x-rays showed my PA still progressed while taking the methotrexate. My fatigue significantly worsened while on this drug, to the point that I was struggling to do basic day-to-day tasks. The doctor took me off methotrexate and put me on Humira, and I feel much better in regard to pain and fatigue, although some small psoriasis patches are coming back."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 29, not knowing out of the blue I started having severe shoulder pain. Paying it no mind and hoping it would go away, then it started in my right hand. My primary care physician ran some blood work and prescribed me Meloxicam and Tramadol. The pain, swelling, and stiffness became aggressive and moved to my other shoulder, hips, both hands, and wrists within 2 years on Meloxicam. I was referred to a rheumatoid arthritis specialist and was placed on Celebrex. The pain was unbearable, it had me in tears, unable to walk, get dressed, brush my teeth, or do daily tasks. Now, these past 2 weeks, MTX has been a blessing! It's awesome, other than the weight gain."

For Psoriasis "I have been on 15mg methotrexate for one year for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. My psoriasis was mild to moderate and is a little better but I was in a lot of pain from the arthritis and this medicine has helped me so much. I would say my pain went from a 9 to a 3 on a scale of 1-10. Only side effect is stomach upset and I am considering switching to injections."

For Psoriasis "I've suffered with scalp psoriasis from being 8 years old, but I always managed with coal tar shampoos. When I was 29, I noticed plaque psoriasis forming on the trunk of my body, arms and legs, chest, and face! They grew larger, became intolerable, and so itchy. After many visits to the GP, I was eventually referred to a dermatologist. By this point, I was off work, severely ill, my skin was so bad I couldn't walk, and I would lie in the bath to help shed the layers of skin. Upon my visit to the dermatologist, he took one look and said I was critical. I was 99% covered and had erythrodermic psoriasis! I spent 11 days in the hospital, bandaged in ointments. I've been on MTX for 4 years now and can say it has helped me a lot (99%). Blood monitors done 3 monthly."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I was put on methotrexate over 3 years ago. The third week of injection, I crashed. Confusion, overall sick feeling, had to take an antidote. This medication caused irritable bowel syndrome, itching, hives, and just made me sicker. I would not recommend this medication."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Just yesterday, got diagnosed with RA, my number factor being 975. Not sure what number is considered normal. Doctor is starting me on 3 pills of methotrexate at 2.5 mg, and folic acid once a day for the rest of the week. Not a fan of taking pills. Really scared after reading some of these reviews, as my pain is not really severe, and no swelling. Apparently, I've had this for a while and never realized it."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I've been taking methotrexate for a couple of years now. In the past, every RA drug seemed to work but immediately affected my liver numbers. This doesn't affect my liver and works like a charm. The only issue I have now is my insurance pharmacy choice changed, and the new methotrexate manufacturer and those pills don't work. I've been on it for a couple of months and am slowly getting worse. Got a new refill from the new supplier today and take it tomorrow. We'll see how they do. I see my RA doctor Monday, so I can discuss this with her."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Methotrexate was given to me for my RA at 15 mg once a week by tablet. It gave me mouth ulcers, nausea, and great fatigue for one or two days. My knees swelled up more while I was on it. I see a lot of folks take it, the best thing that has helped me is eating mostly vegetables and avoiding dairy, grains, and nightshades, but everybody responds to food differently."

For Psoriasis "I watched a good friend (with psoriasis) deteriorate on this vile drug, taken in rotation, 3 months on, 1 month off for over 3 years. 1 month off? Yes, to give the liver a 'chance to recover.' Really?! His liver suffered so badly, he died within 3 years-from liver and pancreatic cancer. From the beginning of being on this drug, my friend's digestion suffered increasingly, as did his immune function. He was always in denial about the role methotrexate played in his poor health-because it did cure his hated psoriasis."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Methotrexate has helped with the pain, but no one told me that it could affect my blood glucose and pressure. I worked for 3 years to control my diabetes with diet and had just completely normalized my glucose levels. Methotrexate ruined that with the first dose. So should a person take it and add additional BP meds and have to go on diabetes meds?"

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I have been on 15 mg, then 20 mg for two years. Then developed constant, explosive diarrhea, dizziness, and confusion. Judged to be allergic, and told to stop the medication immediately. The symptoms continue... How long before it gets better? I am not taking anything for RA right now after a week off methotrexate."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "So far, I have experienced great results. I double up on my folic acid the day of and after my injection, as it helps with being tired. I do experience diarrhea about 24-48 hours after taking the shot."

For Psoriasis "Sooo, I'm 26, been suffering 5 years. It started in my scalp and then spread to my ears, eyelids, elbows, knees, and little patches on my torso. Last year, to my horror, it decided to make an appearance on my penis and stayed and got worse for the whole year. At this point, I was as low as a man could be. Constantly on my mind, constantly severely depressed with it, and was annoyed with things that don't work. I was in lots of pain and self-confidence non-existent, just wishing for a life with nice skin. Three weeks ago, I was put on methotrexate. One week later, my penis was totally-and I mean totally-clear and has stayed clear."

For Psoriasis "I have been suffering with psoriasis for 4 years now, and with each year, it keeps on getting worse. The guttate psoriasis covers 80% of my body. I have tried ointments, light therapy, and now methotrexate. All treatments work for a while, but oddly enough, the psoriasis comes back with a vengeance. New spots appear. My dermatologist explained to me that it takes 3 months for methotrexate to work. It slightly cleared up my psoriasis the first month, but on the third month, my psoriasis came back even worse. I'm glad to read that this medicine has done wonders for many, but it just didn't work for me."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I've been on methotrexate for 4 months now. The rheumatoid arthritis came out of nowhere. I went to my primary care physician with my feet and my thumbs, he basically said I was getting older, to take Aleve and get comfortable shoes. Well, a month later, I could barely walk, so my primary care physician did blood work. My RA factor was 1382. It took me another month to get an appointment with a rheumatologist. The rheumatologist is going to fail me on methotrexate on the 28th of this month because my levels are not coming down as expected. I am currently on 17.5 mg of methotrexate. I take them on Friday night, and Saturdays I am exhausted. I constantly have pain in my hands, wrists, ankles, knees, and feet. I am just afraid the next medication won't work either."

For Psoriasis "I have had psoriasis for over 40 years, and although it's just on my elbows and legs, I have tried all the usual remedies (topicals, light therapy, etc.). I tried methotrexate this spring, and in a matter of weeks, my psoriasis began to clear up. My doctor has me go for blood work every month or so to make sure the methotrexate isn't affecting my liver. We have decided to back off of the methotrexate during the winter in order to give my body a break. But I'll be anxious to begin it again come spring!"

For Psoriasis "During the Christchurch earthquakes, my mother (who's had psoriasis all her life) and I broke out big time. We found a specialist and got put on this. It cleared up in a matter of 2 weeks for Mum, for me, it was 3-4 weeks. We both have had no side effects. However, now, 1 year later, after moving to Auckland, I can't find a doctor who will supply it to me. One week from being off it, and it has all come back. Just want to be a normal 20-year-old. If you have a doctor who prescribes this, don't let them go."

For Psoriasis "Started with the pill form of methotrexate at a 15 mg dosage per week. Moved to injection form and increased the dosage to 25 mg per week. Seen lots of improvement in my psoriasis. Tired the day of and the day after the injection but not concerned. Stomach a bit irritated, but a little drawback for the good benefits."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I was very ill on methotrexate for 10 weeks, nauseous, weak, pain in my chest. I was told I would get used to the side effects. After 10 weeks, I ended up in the ER vomiting blood, requiring blood transfusions. Methotrexate was very dangerous for me and has destroyed my stomach. I found minocin very helpful until I pulled out an infected root canal... Instant relief. No pains now."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "When I went to see my doctor, I couldn't even write my name. My hand hurt so badly I couldn't even hold a pen. She examined me, took blood work, and gave me a steroid shot. A week later I returned, and we discussed my options, and she recommended methotrexate. She went over the side effects, etc. I'm into my second week, and I'm happy to say no side effects. 1 injection .06 once a week, folic acid daily. I'm at 80% better and looking forward to 99%."

For Psoriasis "I was on methotrexate for 3-4 years after trying every option. I started 17.5 mg when I was 19. It cleared my psoriasis perfectly! I struggled with side effects: weakness and exhaustion, loss of appetite which led to severe weight loss, and nausea. I changed to the injections at 20 mg and found a huge difference in side effects. Still not a lot of energy, but not going through my stomach was better for the nausea and appetite, so I could get healthy. I stayed on methotrexate for as long as I could before I felt it was draining me. Now I am off it for 1 year and have bad psoriasis again. I'm wondering if it's best to go back on. Both affect you in different ways, emotionally and physically."

Methotrexate for Rheumatoid Arthritis "I've been using Otrexup for several months now, increasing from a 10 mg injection to a 20 mg. I have had severe leg cramps in my thigh muscles since beginning this drug. However, I was injecting into the same leg and then leg(s), so maybe I will try the stomach. I am also on Rituximab infusions. These drugs have turned my health around; my RA is now manageable."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I took one dose of three 2.5 mg tablets, and it almost killed me. I ran a fever, had chills, diarrhea, and couldn’t breathe well. I am now taking breathing treatments and hopefully will recover without any damage to my body."
