Mepolizumab for Asthma, Maintenance "I have been having monthly Nucala injections for about seven years now, after previously suffering with severe asthma and bronchiectasis. I have never smoked once in my whole life. The effects of the Nucala were a wonderful relief, almost like a miracle. I was able to live a normal life, except if I caught flu or a bad cold. I do not know what has happened to cause these chest problems to become suddenly so severe in the space of one month - wheezing, coughing up every 30 minutes through the night, and breathlessness, even though I am on steroids and antibiotics. I just hope and pray that after my next Nucala injection, I will be well again."

Mepolizumab for Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis "Nucala has made a positive contribution to my life. Emergency room visits and three hospitalizations are in the past once I started Nucala every 28 days with three injections totaling 300 ml. All the other symptoms have not come back and my asthma is controlled. I am grateful for the team of doctors that prescribed Nucala."

Mepolizumab for Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis "Had great results initially. No Xopenex! Four months ago, delivery changed to pre-prepared shots packaged by the manufacturer instead of being mixed by pharmacists on-site after I arrived. Health deteriorated for four months, from 20 minutes on the treadmill to tough 5-minute walks and oxygen at night. Shot can be delivered from the hospital about 2 miles away any time from hours to days or weeks. Not sure if that is the problem. Comments?"

Mepolizumab for Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis "On Nucala ~5 years for Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA). EGPA manifests like asthma, I suspect it is more nuanced. Close enough! I have only used a month-long steroid inhaler to get a handle on a rare extreme seasonal flare-up 2x during the past ~5 years. The source of any side effects is hard to attribute because they require going off meds to narrow the true cause. That is not practical for me. Skin rashes preceded first injections by months and about 2 years of inconclusive dermatology investigations before it abated. Recurs occasionally. Rash vaguely resembles early shingles, and I can't say it's the Nucala, but it may be a component. A general malaise during autumn and winter is common (in my experience). This might be EGPA-related, boosting prednisone for 2 weeks sets things right. I am reactive to prednisone, and it has its own downside. Currently: more frequent aches/back pains this year. COVID shutdown = poor muscle tone could be exacerbating it as much as any drug."

For Hypereosinophilic Syndrome "My daughter has been on 3 shots of Nucala once a month, and it is working wonderfully. She did it as a clinical trial at her doctor's office, and now that it is approved, she receives the injections at her house, and her eosinophil numbers are perfect. She is an RN, so she has no problem with the injections, and her case is idiopathic (no known cause). The question remains as to whether they feel comfortable having a baby. Waiting for registry results."

For Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis "Hope this helps someone else: Nucala works quite well. I can’t imagine where I’d be without it. Several other conditions were tested before my diagnosis of EGPA, including aspergillosis. Eventually, a lung biopsy and the opinion of a leading EGPA specialist confirmed EGPA. Have been tested for hypereosinophilia (yes, there is a test) and was negative. OK, so it's definitely EGPA! Uncertain if any issues I have are true side effects of the drug or due to other meds and conditions. I just want to feel good and not dwell on daily ups and downs, though I think I should have sucked it up and kept a medical journal. (I made this mistake with regard to another med some years ago. Keep a journal for a few months or years when adding or changing meds, you may find it useful). Been on Nucala for 5 years or thereabouts after coming down with a vicious bout of pulmonary issues and pneumonia that were distilled down to EGPA/Eosinophilic Asthma."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "Nucala has changed my life in a positive way. I no longer get sinus infections twice a year that take months to get over. If I do get sick, it runs a normal course of 10-14 days, and I’m better. My asthma and allergies are much better controlled."

"I have been on Nucala 100mg for over 7 years. My pulmonologist took me off of it thinking I did not need it. But since then, I have had problems with my breathing so I am taking it again. My problem is being able to afford it. I wish there was a generic form on the market."

For Asthma "I have had asthma since infancy, and up until I turned 23, I only suffered from a minor attack maybe once a year. And then... my life turned upside down. I began having severe, life-threatening attacks every 4-8 weeks, resulting in long hospital stays. I was put on a number of asthma medications: Uniphillin, montelukast, prednisone, Kenalog injections, my blue reliever, Fostair, and Spiriva. I went from working full-time in a nursing home to long-term sick, and depression set in as my quality of life dwindled away with each attack. Finally, after a year of waiting, I was told I was going to be trialed on Mepo. From the first injection, I felt positive, and I am now coming up to my fourth injection and have had no attacks. I have been able to return to work, and my quality of life is slowly improving. Unfortunately, I now suffer with quite severe anxiety, which leaves me feeling breathless, but I'm hoping with time that too will ease. Still early days, but long may it continue."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I've been taking Nucala for 2 years now, and it has helped my asthma so much, and it changed my life because my asthma was so severe. However, I am thinking about asking my doctor to take me off of it because my joints in my shoulders, legs, hips, and back are paining so bad, and the tiredness is hard to bear. I just don't want my asthma to come back. I wish there wasn't a trade-off."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I'm from Argentina and have had asthma since I was 8. I started using Nucala 2 years ago. It took at least 8 to 9 months to have an effect on my body, but it was amazing. Before Nucala, I used to nebulize 6 or 7 times a day and would wake up at night at 3 am because I needed a nebulization. I even had a nebulizer with a battery to use on trips, but now I have it stored away. Nucala changed my life. It's a pen, which I press to my tummy, and after hearing one click, 20 seconds later, I hear a second click, and that's it. I use it once a month and have had no side effects."

"Mepolizumab has proven to be very effective and is a transformative life changer/enhancer for me. For many years/decades I put up with skin damage and bone risk caused by prednisolone. Since commencing mepolizumab I have been able to stop prednisolone."

For Asthma "Been diagnosed with asthma and COPD in 2007. My asthma got worse over the years, was on steroids but nothing seems to help, been hospitalized in 2017 twice. My doctor recommended trying Mepo. I started in August 2018, it took some time before I felt the difference. But I say that I have fewer problems since I got the injection, fewer infections, a bit more energy. I get my last one this month and see my doctor if I can continue with the injection. I believe that it will definitely help me to cope with my asthma and improve my lifestyle."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "Nucala makes it so difficult to get the injection that by the time you find a facility that will do it, you're so worn out you give up. And I have insurance that will cover it. Why is it that Dr. offices have to enroll in a prepay program to get the drug? If it was that great, they wouldn't need to do that. Scam."
