For Birth Control "Took birth control pills for 13 years and was tired of it... just wanted something I didn’t have to think about. The insertion was painful, maybe 5/10 on the pain scale. Had bad cramps for the first 12-24 hours, but they were manageable with ibuprofen, Tylenol, and a heating pad. Had a few days of slight cramping. No bleeding yet. Every once in a while, slight spotting with wiping, but nothing that requires tampons or pads. Highly recommend!"

For Birth Control "I’ve had Kyleena for about 1.5 years now, and I’m happy I got it. I’m someone who was constantly worried about missing my period but didn’t want to take oral contraceptives. I will say that the first 5 months after insertion, I spotted heavily. It was very inconvenient. I will say now that I no longer experience spotting, but my period is still irregular. For insertion, I would recommend (if your gyno doesn’t) asking for a medication to soften your cervix beforehand. I took it too late, and the insertion was one of the worst pains I’ve ever had. It’s also because I’ve never given birth. Overall, Kyleena serves its main purpose as birth control, and I would recommend it to others."

For Birth Control "I’ve had the Kyleena since April of 2018. The only problems I’ve seemed to have since then are cramping about once a month and during vigorous exercise. I’ve spotted maybe once or twice, but other than that, my periods have completely stopped. This device is EVERYTHING! I love it, so much better than Depo!"

For Birth Control "*UPDATED REVIEW* I've been on the Kyleena IUD for about two years, and it's been great to me. The insertion wasn't painful at all, and the recovery time was very minimal (probably like a day, but I got it on a Friday, so I took the whole weekend to relax). My periods are nonexistent, but sometimes I get spotting with mild cramping for a few days before it goes away. The cramping is much more tolerable than when I wasn't on any birth control at all and felt like dying whenever I was on my period. It's given me a little bit of acne on my chin, but really not anything super noticeable. I haven't had any 'accidents' unlike when I was on the pill. My partner says he does not feel it in me either, so that's a big plus too. It also hasn't messed with my emotions either, which was a big problem when I was on the shot, and it amped up my depression/anxiety, making me borderline suicidal. I have nothing but good things to say about Kyleena and plan to get it again when this one needs a replacement."

For Birth Control "So I’ve had the Kyleena for 4 months now. I am still spotting almost every day, but my periods are like my spotting. Haven’t had heavy bleeding. The insertion wasn’t painful at all either. It’s like a deep cramp for a second, and it’s gone. My biggest issue was the first two months. I had severe anxiety and panic attacks. It was truly scary. I sat in the hospital parking lot multiple times debating on going inside. If you have bad anxiety or depression, I would not get this. Other than that, I love my IUD. Hope the spotting stops soon."

For Birth Control "Insertion not painful at all!! Literally one second of discomfort. I've just had my period/spotting the past month and am hoping that goes away. Def recommend. IUDs are so the move with birth control. I wouldn't do anything else."

For Birth Control "I had my Kyleena put in today, 2 hours ago. I just wanted to let any nervous girls know that the procedure was NOT the worst pain ever. It hurt for about 20 seconds, and yeah, I had to squeeze my husband's hand hard for a second, but it was honestly nothing in the long run. I've never had children and don't plan to for 2 more years, so the insertion is the most painful it can be because I've never given birth. 10/10, would recommend. 1 minute of dizziness, a smidge of light cramping, and some light spotting afterward. All things I was told and expected to happen. It's a pretty nice price to pay for carefree birth control - go for it!"

For Birth Control "Had it in for 10 months. Spotting every month, but also infection after infection. 5 rounds of antibiotics. It was a disgusting smell, I couldn’t keep it in. My skin was amazing. It did minimize the blood and pain, but no sex drive, and when we did, the aftermath was always an infection. I shower before and after sex because I’m a little OCD, but this was out of control-4 showers a day. I was done."

For Birth Control "The only reason I'm not giving Kyleena a 10 is because of my acne. I am going into my 3rd month of having this IUD. I switched from a low-dose birth control pill. I love the IUD because I don't have to remember to take a pill every day! The first two months have been rough. I have broken out all over my face, chest, and back. Nothing will make it go away, it's so bad. The 1st month was okay, didn't have much spotting, just for about 3 days, and it was light. The second month I got my period right on time but had it for 17 days straight. Also found a cyst on my right ovary. I'm just now starting to get more energy, but I have been exhausted for the last two months. I will update again after being on it for 3 months."

For Birth Control "42 yrs old, had Kyleena inserted 6/28. Pain was not bad during insertion, but the headache and dizziness the three days after were simply horrible. Things are good now, just cramping off and on and spotting."

For Birth Control "I got my IUD as a result of severe migraines (with aura) worsened by my period. After trying numerous birth controls - experiencing a mini-stroke - and speaking to my gynecologist, I was quickly pulled off the pill. I had my IUD inserted 5 days ago - as well as cauterization. The inserting of the IUD was not as bad as the reviews I read. Was it uncomfortable? Absolutely. Was I going to cry or pass out? No. Brace yourself for discomfort. I bled excessively for 24 hours. Picking some heavy-duty pads prior to going in - you will be happy you bought them. There is some major cramping - and very minor spotting, but if you suffer from migraines - cramping and spotting is nothing. So far - it’s been a dream. Still very early in the process, BUT my experience has not been like many of the reviews I have read. If you are thinking about getting an IUD - and if your doctor is on the same page - do it! Don’t let other reviews spook you, worse comes to worst, you take it out!"

For Birth Control "I’m happy with my IUD because I don’t have to think about taking any pills. The only negative side is that I usually start cramping (on and off) around two weeks before my period. The cramps are accompanied by spotting. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with my decision."

For Birth Control "I've had Kyleena for a week and a half. I LOVE it. Ibuprofen (800 mg) an hour before, insert was 4/10 on the pain scale (lasted less than 1 minute), uncomfortable for an hour after, but functioning to drive home and run to the market. Took it easy the rest of the night. I've had zero cramps, zero spotting, I feel perfectly normal. I had sex 24 hours after being inserted. I did use condoms (my doc said I didn't have to, but wanted to be safe). There are good and bad reviews, I encourage you to get it for yourself. If you don't like it, removal is supposed to be easier than inserting. I love this and knowing I'm protected for 5 years against unwanted pregnancy. Good luck!"

For Birth Control "I am very hot and cold about this IUD. I was bleeding/spotting irregularly for the first six months to one year. My periods have not gotten shorter (last more than a week), but they have gotten lighter. This IUD threw my pH completely off, and it's something I have been trying to get back under control for months now. It also made it a bit harder to lose weight and made me grow some hair on my chin. Overall, I don't regret it, but it really messes your hormones up. Taking it out before the expiration date."

For Birth Control "I got my Kyleena placed in early March, and that was the worst part. Let me tell you, the pain that followed insertion for 4 days after was next to unbearable, and I had already had a child. I figured it would be a walk in the park. I suffered through those first few days with so much pain I felt sick, and my period was like something had been killed. But let me tell you what, ladies, since then I almost forget that it's there. I have had small amounts of spotting when I am due for my period and mild to medium cramps for about a day, but other than that it's been pretty great. No acne, no extreme weight gain (with Nexplanon I gained 65 lbs). I have actually lost weight with little exercise and no diet change. Ladies, it's all about what our bodies can work with. This birth control was my last option before just using condoms all the time, and so far, so good. I think the 4 days of pain is definitely worth the 99% protection for 5 years."

For Birth Control "I decided to get Kyleena after having horrible side effects from the Depo shot. During insertion, I was experiencing a lot of discomfort, but the pain was minimal and bearable. The procedure only took a couple of minutes. After the insertion was completed, I was nauseated and lightheaded, but I laid back and drank some juice for a couple of minutes, and I was able to get up and leave. I cramped for about a week and bled for about a week, but now I have no side effects besides light spotting every now and then. I have had Kyleena in for almost a month now, and so far zero problems. Definitely worth the discomfort!"

For Birth Control "It has been a year and 9 months since I got my IUD. The first few months were pretty weird with cramping and spotting, but once you get through that, it is great! I used to suffer from unbearable cramps, and now I might take one painkiller on my first day, then be fine, and my periods are super light. Didn't experience any weight gain. I highly recommend Kyleena because I don't have to remember to take medicine every day, and after the first few months, I have had noticeably easier periods."

For Birth Control "UPDATE. While my first 2 months were a bit rocky, my third month on Kyleena has been much smoother (less cramps, less spotting). My third period was super easy (5 days, with the heaviest two days filling one diva cup each, a few cramps on heavy days, but not too bad). Since then, I spotted around ovulation, but I have not had any major cramp. I am due for my 4th period soon, and I don't dread it. As I am used to 8 days of super heavy periods (filling 5-6 cups per day, sometimes once an hour), this is awesome! Not pregnant either, so everything is great!"

For Birth Control "I got my Kyleena about 4 months ago, and I love it! It hurt like hell to get inserted, but my boyfriend was with me and holding my hand the whole time, which really helped! I also think it’s worth mentioning that I forgot to take Advil beforehand, which is probably why it was so bad for me. My symptoms have mostly died down now, but I had decreased libido, some bloating, brown discharge (still have that), and spotting. But let me tell you, the peace of mind is incredible! I used to be constantly stressed and worried about getting pregnant, but now it’s hardly on my mind. I also want to mention that I tried birth control pills for a bit before this, and it was a horrible experience. I was depressed and had absolutely no libido and was breaking out, so I was nervous to try this because it is hormonal, but because it’s localized, it didn’t have any of those effects. This has been a great product for me, but remember, everyone’s body will react differently!"

For Birth Control "The Kyleena insertion was not painful at all. Just took a couple of ibuprofen beforehand and walked out of there feeling fine. I am now over a year on this and I'm going to take it out in two days. I have had recurring bacterial infections and yeast infections. On top of that, I have dealt with ZERO sex drive. I never gained any weight on it, in fact, I lost a lot of it, but I have had a lot of migraines. I can’t attribute my weight loss to this IUD because I was also breastfeeding during most of this time. I’ve had continuous spotting throughout the months and have to wear a panty liner every day because I never know when I will spot. Not to mention the constant discharge from infections! Not worth the worry and money spent on liners and medicine for BV."

For Birth Control "I was told I’d likely feel a pinch and two cramps, and then have slight spotting for a couple of days. The doctor was nice and walked me through everything he was doing. First, they inserted the speculum and cleaned the area. The next thing was to measure the cervix. This was supposed to be a “pinch,” but felt like someone was filleting my insides with a meat cleaver. I was screaming so much that two nurses came in (at least I think it was two; I could have been seeing double). Then, I got novocaine, and this drug helped. I didn’t really feel the insertion that much. I felt okay that night, but spent the next three days curled up in the fetal position with a heating pad. At this point, I thought my insides were slowly succumbing to a death of internal bleeding, so I went to the ER. They gave me drugs and sent me on my way after doing an internal ultrasound. I spent the next day in extreme pain. I went to work, nearly collapsing, and then got it taken out, which didn’t hurt."

For Birth Control "I will start this review with the fact that I've NEVER been on birth control, and I'm 37 years old! After a lot of research and after speaking with my close friends, I decided on Kyleena. Me being older, my options are less than I realized, and I didn't want something that would have too many hormones. So far, I'm very happy with the results. The insertion wasn't bad at all... I went on my lunch break and went right back to work. Yes, there was cramping, but nothing crazy. I've had a child, and honestly nothing can compare to that pain. The only thing I can say that was extremely annoying was the 2 weeks of constant spotting. I worried it wouldn't stop, but thankfully it did. I'm very happy with my decision and hope it only continues to be this smooth."

For Birth Control "I am 20 years old, 5'2" and weigh about 115 pounds. I got the Kyleena inserted almost a month ago. It was a super fast process. The pain is quite intense, but only lasted less than a minute. I had cramps for only a few minutes after the procedure. Make sure you eat before, otherwise you may feel faint. The only symptoms I've had since insertion are heightened emotions and spotting. My sister also got the Kyleena about a year ago because she has endometriosis, and it has REALLY helped her. I highly recommend the Kyleena IUD-just make sure you have a great doctor to put it in."

For Birth Control "I have only had the Kyleena for almost 2 months. The insertion was horrible, it felt like my insides were being pinched and twisted for 5 minutes, and I cried. I haven’t done anything sexually with someone, so I can’t say if it’s effective, but ever since I’ve had it, I’ve been on my period, and it sucks. I have to wear panty liners because I never know how it’s gonna be. One day it’s spotting like it’s the end of a period and then the next it’s full-on red blood, and then the next I don’t bleed. It’s really annoying because even if I did want to have sex, I wouldn’t, because I don't want to have sex if I'm on my period."

For Birth Control "I got the Kyleena two months ago, and it’s actually gone quite well. I used to get my period for 21 days and have 7 days off. I went for a second operation at the same time as they inserted the Kyleena, so my vagina was sore from that, but where one gets period pain (lower stomach/womb) was not sore at all. Thereafter, I was spotting every day for about one month. It was very light, and wearing a panty liner was sufficient. My skin started acting up a little bit in that first month, but now in my second month, the bleeding has stopped, and my skin has improved. I would advise that young girls get one of these as it makes life easier with not getting your period and having that inconvenience; it prevents pregnancy and it doesn’t change your diet that much. You can continue with your life after insertion, and everything is fine. I’m only 19, and I had been on the pill since I was 13 for my long periods, but this is just more effective, and you can’t forget to take it."
