For Birth Control "The Kyleena insertion was the worst pain ever, and the cramps after were debilitating. I was crying in my bed for the rest of the day until I would fall asleep. I never used to have any issues getting a Pap smear, now I become emotional due to how horrible the pain of the IUD was. I was only told to take ibuprofen. Year 1-2 was amazing. I felt I had zero side effects, and I was not getting my period, which I loved. Year 3-4 was horrible. I got my IUD out early due to weight gain and gut issues. I did get BV and a yeast infection for the first time ever on IUD, unsure if this was related. At first, I didn’t mind gaining a few pounds until 20 pounds later when I’m consistently going to the gym and eating healthy. I was unable to lose any weight. I became so bloated where I looked pregnant most of the time. I had to buy so many pairs of pants! IUD removal was pain-free. I lost weight immediately and never felt better. Six months later, my periods are still inconsistent."

For Birth Control "The procedure was super easy, quick, and essentially painless. It took about 5 minutes, and they were able to guide putting it in by ultrasound. There's a little bit of pressure, but really no pain. I cramped for about two days after, and it felt like normal period pain. I've always had long periods with cramps, and that's what it felt like. Other than that, I felt fine the day of. I was able to drive myself to and from my appointment. Since then, the only side effects I've had are spotting, which is an inconvenience, and maybe a little bit of bloating. Overall, I'm very happy with it."

For Birth Control "I got Kyleena IUD put in December 2020, and the insertion was painful, but not excruciating. However, I do have somewhat of a high pain tolerance. I had heavy bleeding for about 12 hours after, then on-and-off bleeding/spotting for about 3 months. Everything was fine for those 3 months except the irregular bleeding. After 3 months, I got painful, cystic acne around my jawline and chin. I also gained 7 lbs and can’t seem to get rid of it even though I've been active all of my life and work out almost every day and eat in a calorie deficit with healthy foods. I would also have mood swings quite often and wanted to get it removed, but I stuck it out 3 more months because I heard it takes 6 months to adjust. Finally, after 6 months, my acne has gotten better, but I still have bloating and moodiness around my period. My period is still somewhat irregular, and I still have intermittent cramping throughout my cycle. Overall, better than the pills, but still some negative aspects."

For Birth Control "I got the Kyleena IUD inserted almost 2 years ago because I wanted a longer-lasting form of birth control. I have no children. The insertion was not bad at all, and going into the appointment, I had just taken the max recommended dose of ibuprofen. It was a 3/10 on pain, 5/10 for the cramping and spotting afterwards. I kept a consistent but much lighter cycle for the first 9 months. Then it disappeared entirely, which I loved at first. However, I also experienced significant hair loss. I have gained 15+ pounds inexplicably and am bloated regularly. My hair/skin is oily like never before, such that acne has definitely worsened on my chin, neck, and chest. My derm prescribed me spironolactone for hormonal acne, but it has not helped much, and the side effects (constantly peeing, dry mouth) don’t make it worth it. My partner has also observed moodiness, bouts of depression, and very low libido. I plan to get it removed and will switch to either Yaz for my skin’s sake or the non-hormonal copper IUD."

For Birth Control "I have the Kyleena in a year, and it was suggested for me because I have PCOS. The insertion was painful, but nothing major. After it was inserted, I had diarrhea for at least 4 weeks, and I did have heavy bleeding for a week or so. I don't get periods because of PCOS, anyhow, in a year, I haven't had a period, so it didn't bring periods on or anything. I do have bad bloating, my stomach looks like I'm pregnant due to bloating. I didn't gain any weight or lose any weight either. I did develop very bad acne on my face and back, but the worst thing of all was a few months ago when I was in bed, and I got a sharp pain in my womb. It was like nothing I've ever experienced. I couldn't walk or do anything, the pain was unbelievable. I went to the hospital, turns out the coil has moved. It is due to be removed soon, but I am not pregnant, so it worked. But overall, it was probably my favorite birth control. I am planning on having another baby soon, so wish me luck."

For Birth Control "Kyleena inserted 12/4/17. Been almost an entire month. The insertion process was uncomfortable and very painful (although pain lasts for 2 seconds, the uncomfortable from cranking cervix open and swabbing everything clean). I gasped and let a single tear roll down but other than that, just cramping for the rest of the day (5/10 scale). I worked out like normal for the 3 days after and started slightly spotting. And then bam. Worst 3 weeks ever. The bleeding was so heavy and constant, I could barely keep up with changing my pads (no tampons the first month with IUD!). My cramps ranged from uncomfortable bloating with sharp pains if I used my abdominal muscles, I had literal contractions writhing in pain. I contemplated going to the ER multiple times. Sitting (the motion of rising or coming onto the chair) was so painful for my abdominal muscles that I opted to stand a lot more. Intercourse was so extremely painful, my breasts became tender and dropped a cup size. I gained some stomach pudge and lost some tone to my legs (because I couldn't work out plus holiday eating?). Horrendous breakouts on my chest and back. And then just as quickly as it all came, it's disappeared. Entering 4th week, after what I'm guessing was an early period, the blood loss is actually 'spotting' amounts, I have no pain at all (regular life, intercourse, sitting, etc.) except my lower abdominal muscles still cannot be used due to sharp pain. I hope this helps people! Stick with it! (I am 22 years old and cannot take systemic hormonal birth control pills due to side effects)."

For Birth Control "I no longer get my period, so it did the job of easing cramps. After a year, I still have a very lowered sex drive, bloating, and mild weight gain (6 lbs)."

For Birth Control "4th UPDATE: I haven’t bled any. I’ll feel a little discomfort around the time I’m supposed to start my period, and I bloat a lot, but it’s not a big deal. I’ve only spotted twice since early November for less than 30 seconds, and the blood was so light you could barely even tell. I still use two contraceptives. But I feel fine. I swear more than normal, and my face is more oily than before, but overall, it’s been great not taking birth control every day. For those who plan to take softeners before insertion, it can make you feel sick, by the way. I’ve also never had a kid, so my doc told me this was best for me."
