For Birth Control "I have no idea now why my gynecologist recommended this to me when I have endometriosis and I wanted something to make my already awful cramps better; now they’re just ten times worse. I’ve gone to the ER twice since the insertion, less than a week ago, practically begging for them to take it out to no avail. I can’t work when my cramps get this bad and that means I can’t pay my bills. They gave me Vicodin, and it didn’t touch the pain at all; they gave me Toradol, and that didn’t work either. Now they’re giving me Percocet, but I doubt that will work. On top of this, I’m nauseous and having diarrhea constantly and am constantly bloated. I feel like I’m losing my mind, and I’m scared they won’t take it out so I’ll have to do it myself."

For Birth Control "I'm sharing my experiences with Kyleena almost two weeks after insertion. For those who had minimal pain, I envy you. My insertion was brutally painful, and I almost fainted. I spent about 40 minutes in the room trying to collect myself to take an Uber home. Once home, I had a horrible cramp that lasted a few hours and went away after. I had zero spotting for the first week, light spotting going into the second week. However, my biggest complaint with it so far is the massive cramps I've been experiencing that give me nausea and dizziness and the incredible bloating. I look like I'm about 3-4 months pregnant every day. My sex drive has completely gone down, and I feel more emotional throughout the day. I'm assuming there definitely is an adjustment period to it, but I'm hoping it's over sooner rather than later."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on Kyleena for 8 months. Insertion was painful but tolerable. Right after insertion was horrible, I nearly literally passed out and had to lay on the floor in the bathroom to gather myself. (Would have been nice if the doctor said this feeling was a possibility.) I was crampy for the day, but that was tolerable as well. What has not been tolerable is my crazy weight gain and bloating. I was 105 lbs when I got it, now 119 lbs. I look 6 months pregnant! If it weren’t for the weight gain, I would stay on it, no doubt. However, the bloated feeling and extra weight feels awful, and I’m getting it removed next week. :( So annoyed about it!!"

For Birth Control "I've had Kyleena for a year now and a couple of weeks. It didn't hurt much when I got it, more like a cramp or a pinch. I did feel a bit uncomfortable the first few days (menstrual cramping and bloating), after that, I was fine. The first 6 months, my period would last about 2 weeks, and it was heavy. The next 3 months, it lasted about 2-3 days, but I would get it twice a month, and it was light. The following 3 months, which now mark my year with it, I have not gotten my period at all. I do feel the 'symptoms,' but no flow."

For Birth Control "I am day 6 post-insertion. The day of insertion was day one of my menstrual cycle. I took 400 mg of ibuprofen about thirty minutes before my appointment. My doctor decided to inject a numbing agent into my cervix, which was a tiny pinch. The initial cramps felt like a wave of pain from my toes to my head. Side note: when I get blood drawn, I become very dizzy, lightheaded, and nauseous. So I kind of wondered could that happen with the IUD insertion. It did. I became very dizzy, and I did vomit twice. Felt pretty nauseous for the next two hours. The cramping was bad the first day, but a couple of glasses of wine and my hot water bottle made it better. I have been bleeding very lightly since. Cramping comes and goes, but has been painful at times. I am very bloated. Don't have much of an appetite either. I think that is just from the cramps though because I can get a little queasy with them. Hope this helps."

For Birth Control "Yet another update. I had a cyst that burst. I have had Kyleena since mid-October of 2017. I started developing these big cysts not long after insertion. I have not had many problems with the IUD at all. I’ve never had children, either. To put it in perspective, I’m almost 21, and I’ve never had cysts before. The pain was awful when it burst, but as fate would have it, I have another one on my right side. My symptoms are nausea, bloating, and intestinal pain due to the cysts. Be aware you can develop cysts."

For Birth Control "I get very painful ovulations and was on Depo for 7 years because estrogen raises my BP. So Kyleena was suggested to me. Haven't had a period in those 7 years, so insertion was VERY painful for me, and I was cramping, bloating, spotting for 2-3 days. I had EXTREMELY sore, heavy, tender breasts for the first 3 months. Now they only get sore 1 week from when I used to get my period. Skin was uneven for the 3 months, but now my breakouts are minimal. I hate the sore breasts, but it beats any other BC for me."

For Birth Control "Another update! My doctor prescribed me birth control to help with my cysts. So I’m better now, but I experience less bloating. I still have weird pains when I am “in the mood” in my uterus, but that’s about it."

For Birth Control "I've had the Kyleena for 10 months. It was the most convenient birth control, but that is all that I can say good about it. For 10 months, I have been in so much pain. Everyone's body is different. Kyleena did not agree with my body. Everyone told me to give it 4 months, 6 months, and at 10 months, I couldn't take the pain anymore. It was so severe that I could not walk or move. Excruciating! I also would bloat so bad that I would gain 5-7 pounds in a week. I finally got it removed today, and it was a little painful, but that went away with Advil, and I am feeling amazing. No heavy bleeding, just spotting. Downside, I am going on a low dose of BC pills. Not the most convenient, but I sure do feel better, and immediately the bloating went away. No more mood swings, and my sex drive seems to be returning."

For Birth Control "I had the Kyleena coil fitted yesterday, and it was not a very good experience for me at all. After insertion, I had very, very intense stabbing period pains all over my abdomen. I came across very dizzy and felt very, very sick and was sweating buckets due to the shock of the pain in my stomach. I've got up today, and my stomach is very bloated, which isn't normal, and I still have pain in my abdomen, but nowhere near as severe as yesterday. I don't know if this is going to work for me or if I'm going to have periods on this, but fingers crossed it works."

For Birth Control "I got this inserted about 2 weeks ago. The insertion was very painful and uncomfortable. Right after insertion, I felt dizzy and lightheaded and had to lay there for about 30 minutes. I was able to drive myself afterward. I felt fine until my next period. My period was awful, my cramps were worse than ever, and it lasted for over 8 days. I also felt nauseous and dizzy some days. Since starting Kyleena, my acne had gotten worse, I feel bloated and uncomfortable."

For Birth Control "I had to have Kyleena inserted twice. Both times, the insertion wasn’t bad. Just felt like a bad cramp, but if you take some ibuprofen before and just breathe through it, it’s fine. (I’ve never had kids before). So the first time around, I used my diva cup after the insertion, and I think it might have caused it to partially expel. So I had it removed. Let a month go by, then I got it a second time. It’s been two months since I’ve had it, and honestly...no problems really. I spot from time to time, but nothing unreasonable, which is nice since I used to get VERY heavy periods. However, I have noticed that the cramps are worse and they happen out of the blue. It’s manageable though, I just carry some Advil on me. Overall, I’m super happy with this Kyleena. I had a month of feeling bloated after getting it, but that leveled out once my body was a bit more adjusted. I definitely recommend this to others."

For Birth Control "I’ve had the Kyleena for about 3 months. The insertion of the Kyleena was not fun and pretty painful, and I have a low pain tolerance, but it’s so quick that it’s manageable. After it was in, I just felt a lot of pressure, almost a bloated feeling for a day or two, but felt fine overall and that feeling went away. My cycles were light and short before Kyleena, so after, they’ve been very light and just had some spotting for a few days after. I expect it to regulate or stop. I would definitely recommend Kyleena. Not taking pills every day is great. I wish I would have gotten it sooner!"

For Birth Control "I have had a great experience with Kyleena thus far. I will let you know, though, that the insertion will be painful. I had 800 mg ibuprofen prior to the procedure. I also requested my gyno to prescribe an anxiety medication, so I took that prior as well. It’s a good idea to have someone drive you, especially on anxiety meds. The insertion will take only a few minutes, and the few seconds of pain are totally worth it. After the procedure, I didn’t feel pain, only felt bloated. However, I still took Tylenol. So far, I have had Kyleena for a month. Before Kyleena, I was not on any form of birth control. I feel empowered to know that I don’t have to worry for the next five years. Anyway, my three friends also have IUDs, and they love them too."

For Birth Control "I just got Kyleena this morning, and the experience was just okay. I was nervous going into it, and I took 800 mg of Advil to help with the pain (doctor recommended). The insertion is very quick, but my uterus did move, so the doctor had to clamp it, which was the worst part. The insertion itself did not hurt bad, just felt like a few waves of bad period cramps. I still have a lot of cramping and bloating right now, but they do feel like a little more severe period cramps. Overall, I hope it works out."

For Birth Control "I am 23 and have never had a child. I tried Kyleena for five to six months. I will say it does its job. I never had concerns about pregnancy. It gave my husband and me peace of mind. However, I discovered I was sensitive to the progesterone in the IUD. I gained 15 pounds without a change to my diet or lifestyle (I also never gain more than five pounds, so this was alarming), and I had terrible acne on my chin. I felt bloated all the time. Towards the beginning, I experienced cramping and irregular bleeding, which passed with time. However, I still had pains when sitting in certain positions and exercising; it felt as though something was stuck in my body. Maybe this is because I hadn’t had kids? I don’t know. I had previously taken Junel Fe, and I had little to no symptoms. Overall, if you decide to go this route, pay attention to how you feel with it. Every person is different!"

For Birth Control "I've had it for almost a month. Currently on my first period with it, and it's awful. Insertion pain was 10/10. I cramped for almost a week after and bled/spotted the entire time. My period is light, but I have really bad sharp pains, and I'm bloated and feel nauseous all the time. Right now I'm on my period. Everyone is different, and maybe it takes a few cycles to get used to, but if I hurt like this all the time with this in my body, then I don't feel like it's worth having. I'm happy for all of you who have had success with this IUD, but I'm not sure it's for me."

For Birth Control "I'm 49 and have had 2 sons (now adults) by c-section and had a tubal ligation 18 years ago. I got the Kyleena for the purpose of hormonal issues. I got my insertion on July 10th. That was very scary. I took ibuprofen and Tylenol before the procedure, but I still felt the cramps. There were 3 altogether, and they got stronger as we went along. My doctor suggested a muscle relaxer afterwards, and that really helped that day and the day after. I did have some spotting and cramps for about 72 hours. Now I have bloating and gas, some acne breakouts, and leg cramps. But no more cramping thus far. I am hopeful everything will even out as the days go by."

For Birth Control "I've had Kyleena since March 19. Found the insertion process very discouraging after 3 failed attempts. I was encouraged to get local anesthetic to the area, and that didn't work. Eventually, I had to have a hysteroscopy (scope) of my uterus to have it inserted. Absolutely horrific experience. The pain was next level for me anyhow. No Valium or pain relief even provided by the hospital. I hope no other woman endures that! Post-operative, I find the Kyleena great, no major side effects, feeling far less bloated compared to the pill, some discharge noted. Periods not dissimilar from the pill but possibly last a bit longer. Overall, I am impressed. And it's nice not having to worry for 5 years!"

For Birth Control "Let me tell you. This freaking hurt. I yelled during insertion, I got dizzy and sweaty. I had terrible cramping for 4-5 days after that put me in tears multiple times. I couldn't teach my fitness classes or even work out myself. The 800 mg of ibuprofen that was prescribed did nothing to touch the pain the first few days. After that, I could manage the cramps with ibuprofen, but I'm at week two with incredible bloating and discomfort. I feel like I'm gaining weight at an alarming rate, which has never happened before. Ya'll. I work out 5-6 days a week and practice mindful eating. On a plus side, my acne is clearing up (which I believe the pill was causing up until I got the IUD). As of now, I would not recommend this to a friend. I have a follow-up appointment with my OBGYN at the end of March. Unless the bloating and weight stabilize, I am strongly considering removal."

For Birth Control "I have had the Kyleena for two months. PMS for the last two periods has been difficult. Breasts are really sensitive. My sex drive has taken quite a large dip. Also, my husband and I have had to use lube for the first time. My skin is amazing, I suffered for years from acne. No weight gain, but bloating on and off. Cramping stopped after the three-week mark. Barely any bleeding on period days."

For Birth Control "From the day it was inserted until the day it came out on its own, 2 years later, was nothing but pain and discomfort. The only good thing is the bleeding wasn’t as heavy up until 2 weeks before it came out. Constant cramps, pain in the vagina, constant spotting, smell, and bloating. I do not recommend to anyone who has fibroids."

For Birth Control "4th UPDATE: I haven’t bled any. I’ll feel a little discomfort around the time I’m supposed to start my period, and I bloat a lot, but it’s not a big deal. I’ve only spotted twice since early November for less than 30 seconds, and the blood was so light you could barely even tell. I still use two contraceptives. But I feel fine. I swear more than normal, and my face is more oily than before, but overall, it’s been great not taking birth control every day. For those who plan to take softeners before insertion, it can make you feel sick, by the way. I’ve also never had a kid, so my doc told me this was best for me."

For Birth Control "The Kyleena insertion was the worst pain ever, and the cramps after were debilitating. I was crying in my bed for the rest of the day until I would fall asleep. I never used to have any issues getting a Pap smear, now I become emotional due to how horrible the pain of the IUD was. I was only told to take ibuprofen. Year 1-2 was amazing. I felt I had zero side effects, and I was not getting my period, which I loved. Year 3-4 was horrible. I got my IUD out early due to weight gain and gut issues. I did get BV and a yeast infection for the first time ever on IUD, unsure if this was related. At first, I didn’t mind gaining a few pounds until 20 pounds later when I’m consistently going to the gym and eating healthy. I was unable to lose any weight. I became so bloated where I looked pregnant most of the time. I had to buy so many pairs of pants! IUD removal was pain-free. I lost weight immediately and never felt better. Six months later, my periods are still inconsistent."

For Birth Control "Follow-up post: I have had Kyleena for just over a month now, and I would say my experience has been more good than bad. I did have cramping a week before and during the time of my next period, with relief once my period had concluded. It was like clockwork, starting at noon and ending at three every day. I do have spotting every day still, but it can easily be managed with the thinnest pad one can buy. PMS symptoms were either slightly heightened or new since I started, such as breast tenderness and bloating, but no emotional side effects so far. My only complaint is I still have bad cramping when I exercise, specifically if any exercise involves the stomach region. I will update again after a month or so. Very content so far."
