For Birth Control "I was terrified of getting an IUD. I had Googled everything and even watched a YouTube video. My OBGYN gave me a pill to take the night before to soften my cervix and help dilate it. I highly recommend you ask for the pill, especially if you’ve never had a baby before. It will make the procedure less painful and a lot easier. I took 4 ibuprofens before I went. I had only 2 big pinches, and the insertion itself wasn’t painful at all. It was so worth it! After it was done, I said, “Oh, that’s it?” I had some bleeding and very mild cramping for the rest of the day. I was 100% cramp and period-free the next day. It’s only been 2 days, but I’m already excited about it. I’m happy I never have to take a pill again, and I’m happy my body reacted well to Kyleena. I wanted to write a review right away because I want other women/girls to know that it’s worth it. Make sure to take pain medication beforehand and try to relax! Again, ask your doctor for that magic pill!"

For Birth Control "I got the Kyleena IUD at the end of June 2017. The procedure was pretty unbearable, and I had very bad cramping for about 6 hours after. I bled lightly to moderately for about a month straight afterward until my next period came (I could tell because I was VERY crampy and had very heavy bleeding). I currently get my period every month, and it lasts about 15 days each time. I get waves of very bad cramps the week before and throughout the period. I then go maybe a week or two if I'm lucky without bleeding. I wanted to give it a chance, but it's now been almost 6 months, and my body is clearly not adjusted. I plan to get it removed within the next month or two."

For Birth Control "I decided to get Kyleena after having horrible side effects from the Depo shot. During insertion, I was experiencing a lot of discomfort, but the pain was minimal and bearable. The procedure only took a couple of minutes. After the insertion was completed, I was nauseated and lightheaded, but I laid back and drank some juice for a couple of minutes, and I was able to get up and leave. I cramped for about a week and bled for about a week, but now I have no side effects besides light spotting every now and then. I have had Kyleena in for almost a month now, and so far zero problems. Definitely worth the discomfort!"

For Birth Control "I've been on Kyleena about 3 weeks now and have bled the whole time. I'm entering week 4 of being on my period with severe cramps. I called my OBGYN today, and it can be expected for up to 6 months. I have a follow-up appointment here in two weeks. Hopefully, the bleeding and cramps subside. Until then, I'm not very satisfied with Kyleena. I haven't gone a day without hurting. Hope it gets better!"

For Birth Control "Had it in for 10 months. Spotting every month, but also infection after infection. 5 rounds of antibiotics. It was a disgusting smell, I couldn’t keep it in. My skin was amazing. It did minimize the blood and pain, but no sex drive, and when we did, the aftermath was always an infection. I shower before and after sex because I’m a little OCD, but this was out of control-4 showers a day. I was done."

For Birth Control "I had Kyleena put in Dec of 2016. I have now had it for 1 year. The whole year has been terrible. I get my period most of the month, with the most horrifying cramps. I literally don't bleed maybe 7 days per month. It's caused me to get irritable and emotional most of the time. Plus, I get infections a lot. It's embarrassing telling my partner I'm still bleeding all the time. The worst thing is the intensity of the cramps. These aren't normal cramps. Definitely, the most pain I have felt. My doctor had convinced me to stick with it for 6 months, and I did 1 year. I'm down with Kyleena. Terrible experience."

For Birth Control "I’ve had Kyleena for about four months now, and I must say, it is a lot better from where I began. When they say 3-6 months, they mean it. The first two months were horrible. Constant bleeding and cramping, but tough it out! It was the best decision I have ever made! My bleeding is significantly less, and I don’t have to worry about children! I gave this an 8.0 because I do experience some acne, and I still cramp bad occasionally, but so worth it! Everyone has their own opinion!"

For Birth Control "My rating is only related to insertion because I just had Kyleena inserted this afternoon. I've read so many horror stories, so I was truly worried, but it ended up not being a big deal. I took 3 Advil about 45 minutes before. Things went as everyone has generally said as far as procedure. It didn't feel good, but I wouldn't say it was the worst pain ever. It actually came out right after it was placed, so she had to place a new one after the second one, but that didn't hurt as much as the first. So far, cramping hasn't been much of a problem. I have had some bleeding, but not much. Everyone's experience will be different, but know that the horror stories don't apply to everyone! Don't let these stories deter you!"

For Birth Control "I got Kyleena inserted September 2018. Insertion was painful, but manageable. I am grateful I took the day off work that day. I had the spotting/bleeding side effect for about 3 months and some increases in acne. Everything resolved within 6 months, and I was loving the ease of Kyleena. About a month ago, I began getting lower back pain. Over the weeks, I realized my period was not stopping, and I was getting sharp pelvic pain. Came to find out I had an ectopic pregnancy. During my stay at the ER to manage my ectopic pregnancy, I had my IUD taken out. They told me it was perfectly placed. This birth control risked my future fertility, my health, and could have risked my life. I never anticipated the emotional toll of losing a pregnancy I wasn’t even trying for either. I wouldn’t recommend this birth control to my worst enemy. It’s great until it nearly kills you. Not worth the risk."

For Birth Control "Got this IUD exactly a year ago. Insertion was fine, could barely feel it (although I did take ibuprofen before insertion). I stayed in with my friend for the rest of the day and napped and watched Netflix. I had really irregular bleeding, I spotted for three months straight, my periods went from 5 days to 10 days long. I would know whenever my period was coming because I would get one sharp cramp, however, I did not experience cramping regularly. It was the bleeding that really bothered me. Just went to a consultation with my OBGYN and we are looking to try the Mirena next. Fingers crossed it won’t be as frustrating as this one! (No hormonal acne or weight loss/gain experienced)"

For Birth Control "Had Kyleena inserted a little over 12 hours ago. I have been on Depo for about 5 years, and my cervix is small and narrow to begin with. Long story short, I passed out briefly. I had back surgery this past January, and I'd say the pain level was equal. I've never had a child, I'm 28, and I'm glad this lasts for five years because I was having actual contractions for about 5 minutes afterward. Just some light bleeding as expected so far. Had to take a prescribed muscle relaxer and Motrin so far. The heating pad is great. Only took Tylenol beforehand."

For Birth Control "I got Kyleena 8 mo ago after a failed insertion of Mirena. I've never had kids, and I apparently had a non-common shaped uterus, so the insertion lasted 20 min and was incredibly painful. I bled the entire first month and had cramps so bad I had to sit down. This lasted until month four. Now I have irregular periods that show up a week before they're supposed to. I've also had an increase in UTIs/YIs. I've been with my other half for over a year now, so it's frustrating that every time I have a period, I immediately get a YI and have to be on antibiotics for a week. I've noticed a plummet in my sex drive, but an improvement in my acne. I was on the pill for 13 yrs with no problems, and this sucks. Getting it out in a month."

For Birth Control "I had it inserted early December 2021. I basically had to sing because while I was on two pain medications, it wasn't enough and felt like I was getting stabbed down there during the insertion and nearly passed out. For the next 5 weeks, I was bleeding heavily and cramping, my hips and back were hurting all the time, including a comfortable sleeping position, so I go to sleep in pain. My libido just disappeared, and I went into a heavy severe depression with horrible mood swings and suicidal thoughts for no reason. My gyno dismissed this as 'It's just the hormones, this just takes time,' and he canceled my last appointment to see if there's anything wrong with the IUD. I just wanted to stop my heavy periods and PMDD. I didn't know it was going to be like this."

"One of my old gynecologists inserted Kyleena after a laparoscopy to remove endometriosis because I'm sensitive to progesterone (Kyleena is low dose compared to Mirena). Let me say this: this IUD was the WORST. I never had a yeast infection or BV in my entire life. During the six months I had Kyleena, I had 4 yeast infections and BV twice. I couldn't take a bath or even use a blanket without getting infections. I also had spotting/bleeding EVERY DAY. When my new gynecologist tried to take Kyleena out, a process that should have taken a few seconds, he couldn't find the strings. Why? The strings had moved up into my uterus. It took OVER AN HOUR to remove it. It was the most painful experience of my entire life. I don't even know how well it treated endometriosis. All I know is Kyleena was one of the worst things I ever put into my body. Most miserable experience of my life."

For Birth Control "I got my Kyleena IUD inserted in June of 2019. Getting it put in was the worst pain I have ever felt, and the nurse kept me in the office for an additional 30 minutes after because I nearly passed out. The pain and cramping lasted for about 3 days, but it was manageable. I consistently bled for about 4 months, but since then, I have had no bleeding or spotting. I have not experienced weight gain or changes in my mental health. The one downside I have experienced would be acne, but it is slowly going away. I had experienced awful side effects with birth control pills, so switching to an IUD has been the best!"

For Birth Control "I am very hot and cold about this IUD. I was bleeding/spotting irregularly for the first six months to one year. My periods have not gotten shorter (last more than a week), but they have gotten lighter. This IUD threw my pH completely off, and it's something I have been trying to get back under control for months now. It also made it a bit harder to lose weight and made me grow some hair on my chin. Overall, I don't regret it, but it really messes your hormones up. Taking it out before the expiration date."

For Birth Control "I just got my Kyleena put in 4 days ago, so I can’t give a review on it long term, but I wanted to post about my insertion and how my body reacted after because I hyped myself up way too much going into it. I expected it to be a 10/10 on the pain scale. I was wrong, the visit lasted maybe 10 minutes, and the only thing that was even slightly painful was when she was dilating my cervix, and she told me exactly when I was going to feel slight cramping before it even happened. After she dilated my cervix, she said, “Okay, it’s in.” And I was like, the actual IUD is in??? I felt nothing. I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty sure I have a vagina of steel because getting a Brazilian never even caused me to wince, but little things like burns and papercuts are the end of the world to me, so I can’t rate my pain tolerance. After insertion, I had light bleeding on the first day and bad cramping on the second day, but everything is back to normal now, and I haven’t noticed any weird side effects yet."

For Birth Control "I had it put in on August 9, 2021. It's September 27th, 2021, and I am still bleeding. No weight gain, no other side effects, just continuous bleeding. I got it to deal with my PCOS, but I'm not sure if it’s worth it anymore."

For Birth Control "I got Kyleena placed on November 1, 2018. I had terrible, very intense cramping and prolonged bleeding but was told by my GYN to wait until my six-month mark and it would get better... ALL LIES. I now get very horrible, intense cramping before my period comes, and when my period comes, it stays on for 7-11 days, and it has never done that before. This birth control is a no for me, but it may not be the same experience for everyone. Going to have it removed next week and let my body regulate itself."

For Birth Control "Insertion and the following hour or so after, I experienced the worst pain I’ve ever felt. Mind you, I have six tattoos and have been pierced in different places. The doctor said it hurts less if you’ve had kids before (if you’re wondering). Most uncomfortable side effects, but probably worth it. Heavy, heavy bleeding the first couple of weeks and has died down, but from time to time I still get excruciating cramps. The doctor prescribed me a high dose of ibuprofen, which 100% helps. Would NOT get again or go through the insertion process ever again, in fact, I’m scared to get it removed if it’s going to feel the same way."

For Birth Control "I highly recommend Kyleena for anyone who needs a form of birth control they do not need to think about. Not having to worry about taking a pill every day is a blessing, and the insertion process really was not bad at all. It was a very intense period cramp that lasted all of 30 seconds at most. After it was inserted, my pain immediately stopped. The cramps continued on and off over the next couple of days, but they were tolerable, and that was my only symptom after the procedure. I had spotting for 2 days, but then bleeding completely stopped, and I was back to normal. Of course, everyone’s body reacts differently, but I encourage everyone to not let the fear of pain stop you from considering Kyleena. I am very glad I got it."

For Birth Control "I have only had the Kyleena for almost 2 months. The insertion was horrible, it felt like my insides were being pinched and twisted for 5 minutes, and I cried. I haven’t done anything sexually with someone, so I can’t say if it’s effective, but ever since I’ve had it, I’ve been on my period, and it sucks. I have to wear panty liners because I never know how it’s gonna be. One day it’s spotting like it’s the end of a period and then the next it’s full-on red blood, and then the next I don’t bleed. It’s really annoying because even if I did want to have sex, I wouldn’t, because I don't want to have sex if I'm on my period."

For Birth Control "Insertion experience (will update over time). I took 2 extra-strength Motrin 30 min before my insertion. Was not prescribed any other medication, and my IUD was not inserted while I was on my period (I guess this varies by clinic). I have never been pregnant. I was expecting pain but just stayed completely relaxed and was pleasantly surprised that I hardly felt anything at all! Nothing more than the equivalent of a brief gas pain in my uterus and discomfort due to the speculum being in my vagina. I did notice that I was bleeding immediately after the procedure (due to period, not due to laceration), but my bleeding stopped completely after 3-4 hours. I had mild cramps for about 4 hours as well. Since then, it has been 4 days and I have not had any cramps or spotting/bleeding. I realize that it is too early to show any real effects, but I wanted to leave a positive review on here because I think that usually people with negative experiences are more inclined to comment."

For Birth Control "I had Kyleena inserted two months ago in December. I was on a couple different types of oral birth control before I decided to switch to the Kyleena. I was very nervous for the insertion, but it was really not too painful. It feels like a pap smear with two intense cramps about 10 seconds each (these cramps were no worse than really bad period cramps). I experienced some cramping the week after the insertion. Again, nothing worse than just bad period cramps. Ibuprofen usually did the trick, and I was able to carry on with my day. I would say that once I hit the two-week mark, I couldn't feel the IUD at all. No bloating, no cramping, no tenderness. My mood has been so much more stable than it was on the pill. Almost exactly a month after the insertion, I got my first period. This was like a regular period that I would have before I was on any type of birth control. Cramping, somewhat heavy bleeding, lasted six days, etc. I am so much happier on Kyleena than I was on the pill."

For Birth Control "I had the Kyleena fitted on 6th March. The insertion was fine. By the time I left the doctor's surgery, I could hardly walk. The cramps were horrendous! From that day until the second to last week in June, I did not stop bleeding. The cramps would kick in at any given minute, and I thought I would pass out with some of them. I’ve given birth pain relief-free, but I was not prepared for these cramps. Also, for the first month, I almost couldn’t leave the house. I was a hormonal wreck! Sobbing uncontrollably, it was awful. Thankfully that stopped. But the bleeding continued. From the middle of June to the start of the second week in July, no period. A little cramping, nothing major... now I’ve started what I thought was going to be my first normal period after the bleeding settled down. It’s anything but normal. I can’t move. I’m exhausted, the bleeding is so heavy. I’m really thinking about getting this thing taken out. I don’t feel like myself on it. I really see no benefits-apart from not getting pregnant."
