For Birth Control "I'm 18, never had any kids, and got Kyleena put in 10/8/18. The insertion was mostly uncomfortable. I was on my period during it. I took 2 Aleve before. Wish I hadn't been so freaked out about everything I'd read online. It is just a few sharp pains, and the entire thing was over in like 3 min. Not bad at all. Just sat up and went home! I had cramps in the middle of the night that night, but none really after that. I'm on 2 antidepressants, so I was sure to ask my doctor about the hormones, and she said it should not interfere. Sex was normal, my boyfriend and I didn't even notice it! The only annoying thing for me so far is the constant bleeding. I will check back after my ultrasound 11/5"

For Birth Control "I had my Kyleena inserted 8 months ago! It took 7 months before my bleeding calmed down. I bled almost every day from spotting to hemorrhaging, soaking through 15 pads a day before the insertion of the Kyleena. The first month was cramps, bleeding every day to no bleeding for 7 days. Month 2: cramps, bleeding off and on. I wanted this device out! Month 3, my husband is a doctor, almost took it out, but I hung in there. Month 4, bleeding but not gushing. Month 5, bleeding is now turning into spotting. I can handle spotting any day over gushing! Hang in there, my friends, month 6, my period is now normal. I bleed for 7 days, but could go out and be with friends and enjoy life. Month 7, got my life back!!! Merry Christmas to me!!! Understand, I didn’t get it for birth control, but to stop heavy periods, and it works!!!!"

For Birth Control "I have had the Kyleena for just under 5 months. The insertion process took less than 5 minutes and was slightly uncomfortable. I have not had any complications with the Kyleena other than the excessive bleeding and spotting. I usually used to have my periods for 4 days or less, now I have had non-stop bleeding for up to 20 days at a time every single month since the insertion. I know people have said that it takes about 3-6 months to get back to your normal periods, but mine is just worse. I could have a constant heavy flow for 20 days in a row without stopping. Just when I think the cycle is over, I spot for a few days, then it is time for the periods again and the 20-day cycle starts all over again. Other than the bleeding, I haven't had any problems with it. Just waiting to cross over the six-month period and see if there will be any changes with the bleeding. If they go back to normal, then I would highly recommend it, but if not, be ready to have the worst periods ever!!!"

For Birth Control "I got Kyleena inserted in the middle of April. I would describe the pain as 5/10, and it only lasted about a minute. The rest of the day, I had no cramping and only light spotting. After the fact, I bled every day until the beginning of June. Still no cramping, just spotting. Since then, I have had 2 periods. They have been my normal length (6-7 days), but have been much lighter. My first period after Kyleena (the end of June), I had very heavy cramping. This was weird for me because I normally don't get cramps at all. It wasn't a problem for my second period, though. Overall, I think it's definitely worth it. You just have to tough out the first few months!"

For Birth Control "I got the Kyleena inserted July 1, and it’s July 31. The insertion is as bad as everyone says, seriously, never experienced anything worse, but it was only for a minute. Since then, I’ve had irregular bleeding, and my period has lasted 14 days. The main reason I got on it was to help with my period. My face seems clear, and I don’t notice any changes in mood swings. I do have cramps daily, though, so I’m constantly having to take Advil. I’m going to the doctor this Friday to get it removed. It is affecting my sex life since I am always bleeding, my boyfriend and I can’t ever have sex. I should have googled more reviews on it before getting it, and I do not like the fact my OBGYN did not go into depth with me about it."

For Birth Control "I have had the Kyleena IUD for 6 weeks. The insertion is awful, but my doctor gave me a cervix softener and a Valium before. I would definitely ask for that. But when they insert it, it causes you to have a horrible cramp, and while you’re cramping, it feels like they pierce your cervix. It’s awful, it felt like I was gonna throw up. It’s been 6 weeks, and I’ve had bleeding and really strong cramping all the time. I also feel like there is a different smell. I am considering getting it taken out. I may try to stick it out for a month or two."

For Birth Control "Prior to getting Kyleena, I had a Skyla IUD for 3 years and had no issues. I got the Kyleena one because the time duration was longer, and it was what my gyno recommended. Last month, after being on this IUD for 1.5 years, I began to feel off. My period was super light, and then I had continued heavier bleeding in the week after. I was worried and made an appointment with my gyno, and decided to take a pregnancy test just to be safe. Well, you can imagine my surprise when my test came back positive! Along with several other positive tests after that. I went to the doctor, and she was surprised as well since my IUD was fully in place and nothing appeared wrong with it. This has caused me an immense amount of stress and anxiety, and I will no longer be using an IUD due to my experience. It is a shame because I had an IUD for over 4 years, and I loved having one, but I am not risking getting pregnant again at this stage of life."

For Birth Control "I got the Kyleena coil inserted on Monday, the 17th of June. The whole process has been a nightmare, and I’m just sharing this experience as the reviews I read beforehand definitely misled me into thinking it was going to be a doddle. After insertion, I almost passed out, I threw up five times and was in severe (I honestly wanted to call an ambulance) pain until about 1 pm on Tuesday. I didn’t sleep the whole night. However, since Tuesday, I have frequently experienced severe pain with bleeding. I've had a scan to check that it is in the right position - it is. However, I have a retroverted uterus, which the doctor said could be contributing to the pain, and if in six weeks the pain hasn’t subsided, to come back and get it removed. Obviously, everyone is different, but I just wanted to share that my initial experience with this form of contraception has not been plain sailing. If I had known it would be like this, I would have never had it done as I went on it to make my period cramps better."

For Birth Control "So far, so good. Kyleena was placed on the last day of my cycle 3/8/17. Insertion wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It felt like the worst cramp of my life, decided to do gymnastics on my uterus. However, the pain lasted about 60 seconds. After that, it just felt like regular cramping. Ibuprofen was my friend for the first two days and helped with the cramps. I did have bleeding from the insertion, but it lasted only a few hours. Day 2 I spotted very lightly with minimal cramping. Days 3-5 I have spotted very lightly with minimal cramping, but also, not sure this is from Kyleena, but I do feel I have to urinate more frequently. I received Kyleena 5 days ago. (I will update this review in 30 days for sure)."

For Birth Control "Be prepared. Once you have it removed, to bleed like a Bloody Mary with worrisome clots. I had mine in for almost a year and started spotting randomly, so I had it removed, got my period right after, although I just got off before having it removed, then spotted some more, then out of nowhere started clotting heavily to where I went to the ER twice, had blood work, ultrasounds, biopsies, all of which came back normal. IT'S the stupid IUD ruining our bodies! It’s been a month and still bleeding."

For Birth Control "I had Kyleena for almost 1 year before having it removed about 1 month ago. I had no problems after my body started adjusting to it, and I normally cannot take any birth control 'cause it literally makes me crazy, fat, breaks me out, etc., but this one was working out for me UNTIL about 3 months ago. I started spotting every time after sex and just randomly. My boyfriend was always able to feel the strings, so I decided to have it removed, I was over the random bleeding and him being uncomfortable. As soon as it was removed, I started my period even though I just got off 2 days prior to having it taken out. That lasted a full week, then went to spotting that never stopped. Then I started bleeding heavily and hemorrhaging to the point I had to go to the ER 'cause I was going through 2 pads an hour with clots. Well, this has been going on for 2 weeks now, and I made 2 trips to the ER, had ultrasounds, blood work, went to my OBGYN, and everything has come back fine, we just can't figure out why I'm bleeding so bad and for so long."

For Birth Control "Tried Kyleena when I was no longer able to keep birth control pills down (would immediately vomit them up). I’ve had it for about a month now, and I hate this thing. Insertion was fine, just felt like a bad cramp. I definitely have side effects I never had on the pill, but the biggest issue is I started bleeding afterward and have not stopped even ONCE since. I was warned of spotting for 3-6 months. I was not told that I would deal with heavy bleeding every day for that time, and I’m definitely not willing to bleed for 6 months to see if it’ll eventually stop. I’m scheduling an appointment to have it removed."

For Birth Control "Ok, so it's been about one month since I've had Kyleena inserted. The first month was rough. I started bleeding about three days after my insertion, and I just stopped bleeding today. I also have the worst cramps of my life, to the point where I became nauseous, got backaches, and felt dizzy. I also had a lot of palpitations and skipped beats, which was very scary. I had sex about a week after my insertion, and it was not painful at all, and my partner could not feel the strings. Now I am feeling fine, I just hope that I don't bleed for a while because that first month was horrible. I had a heavy flow, then I thought it was spotting, and later on in the day it got heavy again. I went through about three large boxes of tampons. As of now, I don't know if I would recommend this medication, but I will update in about two months."

For Birth Control "I got my Kyleena IUD inserted in the very beginning of March. It was painful, but nothing excruciating! The next day, I woke up bloated as ever. I couldn’t even button my jeans without squeezing my stomach. I bled every day, some days heavier than others. Like getting my period every day. At least twice a week, I wake up to severe cramping (still, after almost 3 months). Actually, it’s 4 a.m. right now, and I can’t sleep because of cramps. The bleeding has definitely gotten lighter, I wear a tampon or a panty liner every day because I never know. My poor vagina is never free! Even when I don't bleed, I still get severe cramping. I’ve been able to have sex with my boyfriend a few times since insertion when the bleeding seems to be at bay, but working up a sex drive is a pain. I read good stories about this IUD and have coworkers tell me they love it, so I'll give it more time, but after the 5 month mark, if I’m still dealing with this, I’m done and never looking back!"

For Birth Control "Got my IUD in Jan, coming off 7 years of using Ortho Tri-Cyclen. The insertion was vile: I jolted and cursed out the doc; next was excruciating cramping: couldn't work, walk, or sleep. At 48 hr, it subsided and I just had light bleeding for 2 weeks. Now, passing the 6-month mark, I still have the following side effects: nearly daily random cramping and bleeding; irregular crampy periods, normally light, but just a week back a massive 2-week period; pain during and after vanilla sex, not even banging against the cervix; my partner getting scratched by the strings, kid you not, I’ve seen the redness and scabs. The strings didn’t soften after 6 mo and can’t be cut any shorter. I have acne all over my face, chest, and back. Ladies with hormonal acne beware; seems like a trend if you're prone! Zillion derm visits later onto retinoids: tret then tazarotene. Acne only got worse. Now taking spironolactone pills TWICE a day *facepalm*, side effects from all those treatments. Getting the IUD out. I really wanted it to work for me."

For Birth Control "I got my IUD inserted today, and overall the pain was manageable. My gynecologist prescribed me a pill to insert vaginally the night before insertion, and I took 4 ibuprofen one hour before my appointment. I had read multiple reviews about Kyleena insertion being extremely painful. This scared me because I have never had children, but in all honesty, I thought the pain was not too bad. I felt some sharp pinches, but it only took about 2 minutes until the IUD was fully inserted. I did experience some bleeding during the procedure, which is totally normal. The cramping afterward did start immediately, but 2 Midol and a heating pad made the cramping go away within an hour. So far, no complaints about Kyleena!"

For Birth Control "I got Kyleena inserted in October of 2017 after attempting to use oral birth control to reduce my very heavy and long period, along with severe menstrual cramps. I have a low pain tolerance, and the insertion was 'menstrual crampy' painful. Two days after its insertion, the majority of the cramps were gone, but I spotted for a week or two. After the spotting and cramping from insertion went away, all cramps and bleeding disappeared completely. Starting in December of 2018, I started to get some cramping and some spotting that would last about a day, but then would completely dissipate. As of June 2019, I typically get some cramping for a day or two, which is simultaneous with light enough bleeding that a liner can be worn. The bleeding lasts for 4-5 days. Overall, compared to how my periods used to be, Kyleena is a lifesaver. However, if you are looking to completely get rid of all cramping, bleeding, etc., on an IUD for a long period of time, Kyleena may not satisfy your wants."

For Birth Control "I had the Kyleena inserted about a month ago. At first, I bled for about two days and had slight cramping after insertion. I probably went a week without bleeding but continued to have the cramping. Now it has been a month, and I got a normal period that has lasted for three weeks. I called my doctor to make sure this was normal, and she said you can have irregular bleeding for up to four months after getting the IUD due to your body getting used to the hormones. Besides that, everything else has been normal. It seems to have helped my acne, and I have noticed I'm not as emotional as I've been on other types of birth controls. I still have a great libido as of now, so besides the bleeding and cramping, it's been a good experience."

For Birth Control "I've had my IUD for about 3 weeks now. I am quite shocked to see that some people passed out/vomited from the experience, as mine was flawless, I was in and out of the doctor's office in about 5 minutes. Sure, the insertion was painful, but not unbearable. I have also never given birth, and I took ibuprofen prior to the appointment. I wasn't given anything to loosen the cervix. It felt like a sharp, extreme period cramp during the uterus measurement and another similar sharp, extreme cramp for the insertion, which each lasted about 3 seconds. As soon as the insertion was done, the sharp pain changed to a dull pain, which probably lasted for about an hour. I had some bleeding that day and some mild spotting for about 2 more days, and that's it. I get cramping on and off occasionally, but VERY mild, less than a period cramp, and it usually only lasts a few minutes. So for those reading these reviews and freaking yourself out, it's possible your experience will go just as smoothly."

For Birth Control "KYLEENA RUINED ME!! I got mine placed 5 months ago and just got it removed this week after consulting a gyn. I was on Tri Sprintec for birth control and acne treatment (I did struggle with mild/medium acne before going on it) for 6 years. I have always struggled with irregular bleeding, but the pill definitely helped maintain it; I never had a normal cycle due to other health issues, but it was not unmanageable. I decided to get the IUD for more reliable birth control. When I had it placed, I obviously experienced cramping and bleeding for a while, but after 5 months it never went away. I never had a 'period,' just constant irregular bleeding that would come and go and last for a day, a few days, or weeks at a time; as well as severely painful constant cramping despite ever having a cycle. I started breaking out about 3 weeks post-placement, and every day my acne got worse. Now in month 5, I have the most severe painful cystic acne of my life. Going back on the pill now."

For Birth Control "Today marks one full week since my insertion. I must say, I was terrified and expected the worst pain on the day of my appointment. DON'T LET THE COMMENTS PUT YOU OFF. My insertion process took less than 3 minutes, and I barely felt pain, just a 5-second cramp when the doctor was opening my cervix. I took 1000 mg Tylenol (extra strength) before going in, so I think that may have helped. I felt normal immediately after the procedure. There was some bleeding immediately after I stood up, but it stopped about 3 hours later. Since then, I have not had any bleeding/spotting/discharge since that day. I only have minimal cramping every other day. Don’t let reviews scare you off, like I almost was. Everyone’s body is different, and I just wanted to share my pleasant experience."

For Birth Control "Got the Kyleena inserted almost four months ago. Doctor recommended it because I have PCOS and I also get migraines. Since this is estrogen-free, I guess it was the best choice. Insertion wasn't terrible, it was painful. I took ibuprofen beforehand, and it didn't help at all. I agree with the comment that it feels like a knitting needle being jammed up there. I had bad cramping the day of insertion and the next day, after that, nothing. The biggest side effect is I have bled every single day. I have not had a single day since insertion that I haven't bled. Doctor said it's normal, but I don't know how much longer I can take this before I get it removed. As of right now, I don't think I would recommend this to anyone."
