Levocetirizine "This drug made me completely crazy. I started having bad anxiety, then anger and depression. Very bad depression. Horrible headache and fatigue. I lashed out at a coworker and got in trouble. What a disaster. Never again. Going back to Zyrtec."

Levocetirizine "Incredible results. I have recently developed horrible fall allergies with the whole - sneezing, runny/stuffy nose, watery/itchy eyes, cough, fatigue, and everything else. I would need a new tissue every 5 minutes. I took one Xyzal at 5 PM on Tuesday, and it cleared every single thing up. It didn't begin to fade until 12 AM on Wednesday. I absolutely love this little pill."

Levocetirizine "Took half a pill for my hay fever every few days, and it worked well in the beginning, but after a few times, it began to wear off too quickly, and it also made me more and more drowsy/sleepy. Knocks me out."

Levocetirizine "I have had a headache for four weeks, with no other symptoms. Had tried other allergy medicines, but they did not work. Within a matter of hours, my headache started to fade after my doctor gave me Xyzal. I didn't even think the headache was allergy-related until then. Feels so good."

Levocetirizine "Been prescribed Xyzal for years. Just recently bought it over the counter for a cheaper price. The plus with this medication is that it helps a bit with my rhinitis and eliminates my hives completely. However, I'm now reading about drowsiness side effects others have been experiencing and wonder if this has been the cause of my fatigue."

Levocetirizine "As many allergy sufferers know, I get so sick from allergies at the end of summer. So bad, you feel sick, so I usually take a Benadryl in the late evening. It helps, but does make me sleepy, so I avoid it during the day! Thought, oh, I'll try Xyzal. It would be so nice to not suffer in the day too. Whoa... me too, among those suffering heart palpitations on it! Not good! Wow... I will NOT be using it. I'm 66 and don't want to invite any trouble! Oh, it DID work to ease the allergy symptoms very nice, but not worth the risk because of how it did affect my heart."

Levocetirizine "I have been very sick with allergies. I have had breathing treatments and the like. Tried all the standard antihistamines, and they did nothing. I have only been on Xyzal about a week, and I am breathing again and feel like I am going to live. This has been great. And the sleep is not bad either."

Levocetirizine "I have tried everything for seasonal allergies and also have been on numerous antibiotics for infections. I have been taking Xyzal for about a month now, and it's the best medicine that I have ever tried. I am almost 99% allergy-free. Also, most people have said that they have had weight gain. NOT ME, I HAVE HAD WEIGHT LOSS of about 4 lbs. I always react the opposite way to medicine anyway."

Levocetirizine "I was hopeful that Xyzal would be the life-changing allergy medicine I’ve been searching for. The first dose I took at bedtime, woke up to fewer allergy symptoms, but as the day went on my mood went downhill... easily irritated, grumpy, depressed, and crying. This is so opposite of my typical mood. Took the second dose thinking it was just PMS or something, woke up dreading my day and more congested. The gloomy feeling is still there, and after reading side effects, I’m certain it’s the Xyzal. I don’t tolerate Zyrtec or Allegra either, but when you’re recovering from your third sinus infection in two months you search for the best remedy. My daughter, who has year-round allergies, took a dose at bedtime too, by morning it was as if she hadn’t taken anything. Gave her another dose (5ml), and the poor thing was exhausted at school, could barely keep her eyes open. Back to Claritin for me and Zyrtec for her. You truly have to try them all to see what works for you. This one, though, is getting tossed."

Levocetirizine "I have terrible year-round allergies. I was taking Benadryl, but it triggers migraines. So, I decided to try Xyzal. It worked great on my allergies, but the side effects are horrible! After about two weeks, I noticed heart palpitations that would get worse each day I took it. Then the chest pain, heartburn, and edema in my lower extremities started. I quit taking Xyzal and went back to Zyrtec. I should have known taking something in the same family would still cause problems. I took Zyrtec for four days. The palpitations and chest pain started up again, and I had a bronchospasm. I was gasping for breath last night. I emailed the company that produces Xyzal and asked about these side effects. I was told they have no information."

Levocetirizine "I have been taking Xyzal in combination with Singulair, and I have been feeling very fatigued and sleeping for hours. I have had to miss work because I couldn't drag myself out of bed and was hesitant to drive. I tried taking it earlier in the day, but no better results. This doesn't work for me, and the side effects are worse than the illness, but it may work for others."

Levocetirizine "I took this medication prior to going to bed. I woke up with my head spinning. I could not function at all the very next day. It felt like it gave me the worst hangover of my life. I would rather suffer with allergies than feel exhausted and dizzy."

Levocetirizine "OMG, worst ever. I stocked up using all of the $5.00 off coupons, and what a waste of money. I realize this year is a double dose of pollen, but this medicine didn't help. Gave me bad headaches, and I felt listless and tired."

"This has worked very well for treating my allergies. However, the side effects have hit me very hard. I normally cycle 40-60 miles on the weekends with 2 25-milers during the week. Since starting this pill, I have had an enormous loss of strength, even feel tired and groggy all day. I am not sleeping very well either. My legs have been cramping really badly while exercising and cycling, I cannot ride over 30 miles without my legs locking up. I will be asking my ENT for something different tomorrow. Be aware that the side effects don't get everyone, they just got to me. Thanks!"

Levocetirizine "I have severe sinusitis and take Allegra D and Zyrtec. I wake up every night not being able to breathe or sleep. So I figured I’d try Xyzal. It helped ease the breathing a little the first time I tried it, but I still woke up at 4:30 am, and the next day I took it, couldn't breathe, and woke at 2 am. Nose still full of mucus, sneezing like crazy. This product didn’t work for me."

Levocetirizine "Slept all day after taking it, felt groggy and horrible. Like taking 3 or 4 Benadryl at once. Will never take Xyzal again, the sedation is debilitating, it is so bad. Only took one dose. Incapacitated for the entire day. I have never had any problem with a bad reaction from a drug before. This is a bad drug!"

Levocetirizine "I took Xyzal in the evening as directed, and I was so sleepy the next morning that I could barely get out of bed. During the day, the effects didn't wear off until late in the day, so it compromised my ability to focus at work. I know that it doesn't affect everyone that way, but for me, I cannot use this product. It did reduce my allergies, but the sleepiness and brain fog it caused are intolerable unless you plan on staying in bed all day."

Levocetirizine "I found it to be about as effective as Zyrtec, but it made me extremely drowsy. I tried only a half dose each time, and could barely get out of bed the next day. It works fairly well, but for me, it's not worth the side effects."

Levocetirizine "Did the research. Xyzal appeared to be recommended for a runny nose due to a cold and/or allergies. Supposed to give 24-hour relief. This I assume means a taper into relief and a taper off toward the end of 24 hours. Both my partner and I took a pill. About an hour later, we felt some relief, which lasted for 3 hours. At that point, it simply quit working...for both of us!"

Levocetirizine "So it seems like a lot of people have had bad experiences with this medication and have taken it over the counter. I got a prescription and spoke with a doctor before taking it, so I was aware of some side effects. The first few days were bad. I did experience the additional sleepiness and some bouts of rage and depression. I spoke with the doctor again, and they mentioned to try and stay on it for a week and see if the symptoms subside, and they did. I am 3 weeks in now, and it has helped my allergies a ton, and the side effects are gone. I am feeling great."

"I have been taking levocetirizine for a few months now. It works well for my sinuses. The drowsiness is not so bad now that I have been taking it for a while. My issue is when I go a couple of days without taking it, I start to itch so badly. My legs and hands itch terribly. Other body parts start to itch badly also. Then as soon as I get a couple of doses back in me, the itching stops. Is this weird? Has anyone else experienced this kind of side effect? Any similar information would be helpful. Thank you."

"I tried other allergy medicines like Zyrtec, but none of them had any effect on my itchy eyes. Xyzal is great for me because it treated the usual hay fever symptoms, as well as the itchy eyes. Taking it at night, as recommended, seems to help reduce the drowsy side effect from bothering me in the day."

Levocetirizine "I have seasonal allergies and decided to try Xyzal, taking 1 pill at bedtime. It worked well for my allergies, but I woke up feeling groggy and fought drowsiness all day. By the afternoon, I took a 2-hour nap. It’s evening now, and I still feel wonky. I think I’ll stick to Claritin."

Levocetirizine "I have been taking Xyzal for 2 days now. I have had a constant post-nasal drip since I quit smoking about 6 months ago. Tried EVERYTHING from humidifiers to nasal rinses, Mucinex and Sudafed, steroid nose sprays, and elevating my head. I've been to the doctor multiple times with no answers, and this is the only thing that makes it not feel like a lump of gunk isn't stuck in the back of my throat. I have been so miserable coughing up nasties every night. The downsides: gives me heartburn (a lot of things do, so it's not a surprise), so I have to take Tums with it. It also makes me VERY drowsy, so I take it an hour before bed and then go to sleep."

Levocetirizine "Took this at night while waiting on an Allegra order. It was not terribly effective on my indoor/outdoor allergies. I felt marginally less wheezy at night, but my nose was stuffed and eyes itchy the next morning. On top of that, it makes me sluggish and stupid for a solid 24 hours. Forget drinking on this pill; the alcohol will go straight to your head. Granted, the label says all of this, but these itty-bitty pills aren't effective enough to be worth it."
