For Osteoarthritis "After having a few cortisone shots and not much luck or longevity with them, my Dr. asked me to try the Synvisc-One, and I was reluctant at first, but when you have 100% bone on bone in one knee and 75% bone on bone in the other, I was willing to try anything. I had to wait also to be approved by Wellness Blue Cross Blue Shield. It was finally approved, and I had the shots in late July. I'm 49 years old and a bigger, heavier man, and I made my 15-year-old son come in to watch. It hurt like heck. My son was shocked to see me wincing in pain the entire time. It takes a little while to get it all in your knee as well. Then to my other knee, I gripped the table and said my god, nobody said they were this painful. Swelled up so bad for a week. Never helped me."

For Osteoarthritis "After reading the reviews of those who have had the Synvisc shots, I am surprised at the level of pain some are describing. My ortho doc did tell me that some people don’t react well, that their knees “blow up,” especially after the 4th or 5th time, and if that were to happen, to come right back. Maybe I am just lucky - no bad reaction, just pain free. It takes about 4 weeks for the injection to take full effect. My first shot of Synvisc One was in May 2016. It was not painful to have the shot, as my rheumatologist also used some local anesthesia with it. Within a month, I was pain free in my knee. I previously was wearing a brace on my knee. Since then, I have had the shot every 6-8 months in my left knee (from my ortho doc). I occasionally have a “little” pain if I overdo things, but it goes away once I rest for a bit. I’ve had the shot 4 times now; just a couple days ago was the last time. Only a tiny bruise at the site, and very slight swelling. That’s it. Worth it not to have pain for 6-8 months."

For Osteoarthritis "I had my first shot of Synvisc in my right knee in February 2016, as it kept clicking/popping due to OA. Found the first shot to be amazing. Was walking normally the next day. Six weeks later, decided to have my left knee done. Again, amazing, I could walk without any problems. Six to seven months later, I had both knees done at the same time. Lost some weight, rode the exercise bike, and walked a lot. This time, I had nine months of relief. Went back for a third round. Had Synvisc in my right knee and another product in my left. No problems with my left knee, but my right knee swelled up and had to be drained (twice). I had obviously built up a sensitivity to it. My right knee is back to clicking/popping every couple of steps, which is really annoying."

For Osteoarthritis "I have severe arthritis in my right knee. I had arthroscopic surgery 20 years ago, and now I am in need of a knee replacement. I have been getting cortisone injections and thought I might try Synvisc. I had the first injection Monday, September 11, and the next day I had swelling and severe pain. I have been in pain since, I can barely walk. I didn't know I had this kind of pain before I had this injection. And due to get another one Monday, but I'm not going to do it, I'm in too much pain, it's not worth it!"

For Osteoarthritis "Bottom line - I think the Synvisc One really helped the knee joint function, but the side effects for me were so bad I will never use it again. Severe osteoarthritis in both knees. Had Synvisc One injections in both knees early Dec 2017. The injections were brutally painful - and I’m not normally bothered by pain. Not sure I could bring myself to do it again. I was barely able to walk for 3 days, then developed constant, deep aching pain, swelling, and stiffness in both legs from toes to hips that did not respond to ibuprofen or lidocaine patches. Ended up having steroid injections twice to control the side effects. After the last one, I lost 6 lbs in 2 days, fluid out of my legs. Now it is mid-April 2018 and I can tell the side effects are becoming less - and the mechanical knee joint pain and instability are returning. It’s too bad that I experienced such severe side effects because I think the Synvisc was actually very effective with the joint mobility and pain."

For Osteoarthritis "The Synvisc One injections have made my knee pain a little better, but I am now having severe stiffness in my calves, foot pain, swelling, and numbness I did not have until after the shots. It is about 7 weeks post-injection. (The first 3-4 weeks were the absolute worst). I will not have them again and hope the injections will wear off in the next 4 months and my legs/feet will return to normal. I am considering seeing a different Ortho doctor and praying for a better solution!"

For Osteoarthritis "I had a pseudo-septic reaction to Synvisc. I had it injected bilaterally in my knees. One week later, I had 60cc of fluid drained from both knees and had cortisone injections bilaterally. That night, simply rolling over caused a tear due to the instability of the joints from the edema. I underwent yet another scope. This was back in 2008!"

For Osteoarthritis "It did not work for me at all. Today, after 3 months, I am actually worse than before using it. My knee is swelling, and I have a hard pain even sleeping. I don't recommend it at all."
