For Osteoarthritis "After having a few cortisone shots and not much luck or longevity with them, my Dr. asked me to try the Synvisc-One, and I was reluctant at first, but when you have 100% bone on bone in one knee and 75% bone on bone in the other, I was willing to try anything. I had to wait also to be approved by Wellness Blue Cross Blue Shield. It was finally approved, and I had the shots in late July. I'm 49 years old and a bigger, heavier man, and I made my 15-year-old son come in to watch. It hurt like heck. My son was shocked to see me wincing in pain the entire time. It takes a little while to get it all in your knee as well. Then to my other knee, I gripped the table and said my god, nobody said they were this painful. Swelled up so bad for a week. Never helped me."

For Osteoarthritis "Had one Synvisc-One injection a week ago in a knee that before the injection only hurt when walking up or down stairs. Immediately, I had a stuffed nose, swollen tongue, never had headaches, but now nausea and headaches. Worst of all, my leg and veins hurt so badly all the time that I haven't had a quality day for a week and haven't slept because of the pain because nothing helps. Tried pain rubs, creams, natural pain meds, and no relief. I avoided stairs for five years and will gladly do it again if I can get this terrible experience out of my body. I give this a one, and from the comments given, I should have never taken this in the first place. Dishonest doctor!!!"

For Osteoarthritis "Finally had my second injection of 2016 Synvisc, why did I wait for so long? Surgeon treated my right knee with Synvisc over 5 years ago during surgery, however, unsuccessfully rebuilt my right knee. Was unaware of the relief that the Synvisc drug possesses. I was in constant pain with both of my knees, right being the worst, sometimes a 10. Don't get me wrong, Synvisc did not cure the pain, it still happens from time to time, but no spikes and so far no 10's! I had double meniscus tears, ACL tear, and osteoarthritis in my right knee. Left is not too much better, but ACL intact, sometimes a 6 but not 10 like the right was. Only pain was a normal blood draw, my doctor froze the area. I sat up to watch the injection. Immediate relief, stayed off the knee as requested."

For Osteoarthritis "I had my first injection two weeks ago into my left knee. I started suffering pain immediately after the numbing used during the injection had worn off. The pain I am experiencing is much worse than what I had prior to the treatment. I am having to take anti-inflammatory painkillers just to be able to walk, whereas prior to the treatment I only used them when my knee was sore after being on my feet for a while. I have had ACL reconstructive surgery, and my knee has deteriorated over time, and this was done in an effort to delay knee replacement surgery. I will not be getting any more injections."

For Osteoarthritis "I had Synvisc put into both knees at the same time as I had arthroscopy on the left knee. Both knees felt like they had lumps of concrete in them for 6 months. They were heavy, and my movement was restricted and painful. Never, ever, ever again!!"

For Osteoarthritis "I just got the injection at 4:30. It is now 6 PM, and I cannot walk on my leg. The side of my thigh hurts. The nurse took me to my car in a wheelchair because I could not walk. She said she has never seen anyone react that way. People get the injection and walk out. Not me. I will never get that injection again. The pain afterward was horrible."

For Osteoarthritis "Following on from my previous comments, it has been three weeks since I had the injections and the right knee drained (twice). After resting and icing for two weeks, I am now back to normal. No more popping/clicking. Started walking last week and slowly built up the distance. Walked 8 km this morning and had no problems. Just needed to stretch before and after, which I should be doing anyway. Hope to get another 9 months out of it. Am willing to put up with 2-3 weeks of pain to get 9 months of relief (and a life)."

For Osteoarthritis "Chondromalacia in both knees with meniscal tears and loss of cartilage. First two weeks post-injection, my knees felt great. Third week, my knees began to hurt again with sharper pain than before. I am currently in the ER because my left leg is so stiff and painful I can't bend or straighten my left leg. Only came to the ER because the right is starting to stiffen up."

For Osteoarthritis "After suffering acute hip pain, femoral edema, shock wave therapy, MRI scans revealed loss of cartilage and some arthritis. I had a cortisone injection which worked for 2 weeks and back to 10/10 pain. I had the Synvisc-One injection which was very painful and had no effect for 4 weeks, after which every day mobility improved and pain-free movement. With regular physiotherapy, the mobility continues to improve every day after the treatment 4 months ago, and I hope the results continue. 100% recommend the product, thanks so much for my improved quality of life."

For Osteoarthritis "After years of knee problems and taking cortisone, I was recommended by a knee specialist to try Synvisc-One injections. After approximately $635 and an extremely painful injection (much more painful than cortisone), I had absolutely no relief whatsoever, just a waste of time and money. Now I am back on cortisone injections until they can come up with another alternative :("

For Osteoarthritis "On 3/24/18, I had Synvisc One in both knees at the same time. I got a bit flushed, nauseous, and like I would faint right after. Used a wheelchair to get to the car as my legs were very stiff and heavy feeling afterward. Had a spray cool numbing agent before shots, neither were very painful. Got shots on the outside of both knees, which the doctor said was usually less painful. One knee got about 90% relief the first week, the other only about 30%. Then I fell on both knees down a concrete step 14 days after injections, which didn't help my situation. I waited for 5 weeks after injections, icing frequently, mostly for the fall issues. I now had about 40% and 75% relief, so on 5/1/18, I went for an appointment, and they suggested a cortisone shot on top of the Synvisc One injection, and I had some more relief after that, even though cortisone shots had never helped me before. I got it in both knees, which hurt way more than the initial injection. But it worked. I am now about 85% and 90% relief!!! On 5/28/18."

For Osteoarthritis "Bottom line - I think the Synvisc One really helped the knee joint function, but the side effects for me were so bad I will never use it again. Severe osteoarthritis in both knees. Had Synvisc One injections in both knees early Dec 2017. The injections were brutally painful - and I’m not normally bothered by pain. Not sure I could bring myself to do it again. I was barely able to walk for 3 days, then developed constant, deep aching pain, swelling, and stiffness in both legs from toes to hips that did not respond to ibuprofen or lidocaine patches. Ended up having steroid injections twice to control the side effects. After the last one, I lost 6 lbs in 2 days, fluid out of my legs. Now it is mid-April 2018 and I can tell the side effects are becoming less - and the mechanical knee joint pain and instability are returning. It’s too bad that I experienced such severe side effects because I think the Synvisc was actually very effective with the joint mobility and pain."

For Osteoarthritis "Consulted with the surgeon two weeks ago. After he reviewed X-rays and MRI, he thought I should wait a little longer for knee replacement (I wasn't in much pain that day, so I didn't protest). He suggested the Synvisc-One treatment (cortisone injection had only given me relief for 3 weeks). My life has been pure agony for the past two weeks. Alternating between Voltaren and Tramadol, missing work and wondering if I made a mistake. I also had pain up the side of my leg almost to my hip. Couldn't understand it until I read a review here where someone said the same thing. Anyway, this morning suddenly I feel better. I don't want to jinx it, so I'll just say that if it takes two weeks to kick in, then I can live with that."

For Osteoarthritis "I’ve had maybe 5 double injections of Synvisc One, and a few others of regular Synvisc prior. Always very painful for about a week (unable to walk for maybe 3 days, then slowly better). It usually takes a month or two for me to notice, but I get to very little knee pain and better range of movement (for about 9 months each time). Yet, this time we also did one hip... and I think it was once too much. I reacted badly to the hip injection, and 6 weeks after the injections, I am back to where I was before the injections, knee pain-wise. So I would recommend the product, it helped me a lot for many years... but it seems your body can get a tolerance (or intolerance?) to it, and it can’t be a long-term solution."

For Osteoarthritis "I received the Synvisc injection around a month ago. The day I got it was a lot of pressure discomfort. It didn't hurt while being done because the doctor did it slowly. I had it done in both knees. The doctor said that I probably should not do it both in one day, but I was determined not to come back since I lived quite a distance. This shot is $1,800 a shot, but so worth every dime. After resting the day of the injection because the pain of trying to walk was intense, the day after, I was a brand new person. I got to take a bath for the first time in 2 years. I have only had showers since getting down into a bathtub took getting on my knees, and that was impossible. I have been walking around like I have never had any knee problems, and I have been immobile for over 2 years now. This has been a godsend for me and my family. I have never felt better."

For Osteoarthritis "I had a Synvisc One injection 11 months ago. Right from the start, I could feel the difference in pain levels and could participate in normal activities again. Two months ago, I had another Synvisc injection. I’m sure the hospital employee didn’t have any idea what she was doing. She used a bigger needle, and I could feel the Synvisc going into the inside of my knee rather than the correct area. I now have more pain than I did before the injection. I’m convinced that when Synvisc doesn’t work, it’s because it isn’t administered correctly. I have no idea when I can get another injection and how I can make sure it’s injected correctly. Very frustrating!"

For Osteoarthritis "All I can say is I wish I had never let the doctor talk me into having this injection. I went in complaining mostly of lower leg pain when sitting or laying down. He convinced me the pain originated with my knee since the x-ray showed moderate arthritis. Nobody ever did anything to check my lower leg at all. I continue to have the lower leg pain I complained of initially. The pain sitting at my desk at work, driving in the car, and laying in bed has gotten so much worse … and now I have pain while walking that is affecting my mobility. This was absolutely the wrong treatment for me."

For Osteoarthritis "My Synvisc injections have been very effective for four years (8 injections). I think the variety of comments, both positive and negative, are due to the different 'levels of condition' of our knees. One of my injections was very painful, and one put me on a walker for 18 hours. But all eight of them had very positive results. I swim as physical therapy for the healthy parts of both knees."

For Osteoarthritis "10/5/21 I had my 2nd Synvisc shot, and both injections, the one to manage the pain and the Synvisc shot, were so painful I left the doctor's office in tears. The first two shots hurt also, but not as bad. I don’t think I am going back for the third lot of injections. I am supposed to get one Synvisc injection a week for 3 weeks. I had Monovisc before, but my insurance company (BCBS) won’t pay for it now and forced me to get Synvisc, which I will not do again! Monovisc didn’t hurt to get the injection and lasted well over a year."
