For Birth Control "I am one of the lucky ones that has an amazing Nexplanon experience. I've had it in my arm for 2.5 years now, and I haven't had my period at all that entire time. It's super discrete in my arm. I do feel it sometimes if I cross or lay on my arms in a weird way, but any slight discomfort goes away when I shift positions and stop messing around with it. I haven't gotten pregnant, and I've probably put it to the test a time or two by this point. I haven't had any weight gain or other negative side effects, BUT I usually don't get side effects from medications. I was on the pill for 2 years and I never noticed any changes either. Overall, my positive experience is 100% worth getting a second one after this. Even if my next implant is a worse experience, I still think it's worth a shot. One pro that I considered while getting it is that I'd much rather have to get something taken out of my arm than out of my cervix if I dislike it, and I stand by that logic."

For Birth Control "UPDATE: I posted earlier this month. Got Nexplanon removed April 12, 2021 due to a year long menstrual cycle. Today April 21,2021 finally no bleeding! No lower back pain or aches! I’ve been waiting for relief and since the removal each day is getting better. My mental health as well is getting better. There is hope ladies! Light at the end of the tunnel! If you remove it your body will start adjusting itself . Just have patience with yourself and try to be positive while you go thru this process. I’ve been praying and meditating and listening to positive YouTube videos to help with my mental state while my hormones adjust. You will be ok in Jesus name."

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon for over a year now and I love it! I haven't had a single period and my cramps are gone. Along with constant migraines. I would recommend this birth control to anyone. It's so much easier than taking the pill every day."

For Birth Control "I've had the Nexplanon for about 3 months and I LOVE it. I still have my period but it only lasts about 3 days. I don't have mood swings, weight gain, etc. The only thing that happened to me was that my arm was bruised for like 4 days after I first got it implanted. Sometimes I even forget about it because it just doesn't cause me any problems. I love it so much that I talked my roommate into getting it and as far as I'm concerned, she doesn't have any problems with it either. I guess it just effects everybody's body differently."

For Birth Control "I would not recommend. Has pretty much ruined my life. My periods have been going on for weeks up to months long along with brown bloody and liquidy discharge. I’ve had horrible mental health including suicidal thoughts, worsened depression, anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I’ve had moodswings and gained around 5 lbs even on a healthy diet and exercise every day. My “youknowwhat” has had a horrible smell, I’ve tried everything from medication, figuring out my pH level, wearing cotton panties to taking showers often and still there is a very bad oder especially from my discharge and period blood. The cramps are debilitating and I couldn’t even walk. The application area has ached ever since I got it and I’ve had migraines constantly. If your body is sensitive to extreme hormonal changes, you have depression or any mental illness, or sensitive in general I would not recommend this. It has been the worst experience of my life, getting it removed soon."

"I got the nexplanon birth control in May, and it’s July and I got it out today. I didn’t feel any side effects for the first month but I remember the day that all shifted and I haven’t felt the same. Constantly depressed and have super bad anxiety. My brain has been telling me to push my parter away, when all I want to do is be around him. Cry all the time, I have no motivation. Night terrors, and I feel like there’s no happiness around me when that’s all there is. I’ve never felt like this before and can’t wait to start feeling normal again"

For Birth Control "Well let's see, I would not recommend to anyone. Why? You like being bipolar II? because that is what you get. Do you like your monthly for a month with 2 weeks of no period? Because that is what you will get. My OB/GYN lied to me. She said this was better then the pill (I was having massive mood swings as well as really bad cramps being on the pills and I would always forget to take them) and told me that this birth control method would be the way to go. I lost my health insurance so for almost 3 years I had to deal with having suicidal thoughts nearly almost everyday, being over emotional, anxiety through the roof, mood swings, period for a month with 2 weeks off (AND NO IT IS NOT SPOTTING). I currently just got my health insurance back, so in September (because that is when I can get in) I am getting this the awful thing out of my arm. It's okay because now I am going be more cognizant of what I am going to put in my body. NEVER AGAIN!!! I know people are different, but nope NEVER AGAIN!!"

For Birth Control "I just wanted to post on here to combat the predominantly negative comments I have been reading about nexplanon. Of course, all our bodies are different but often people only post when they have had a negative experience. I have had it put in, no side effects and feel really ‘stable’. Quick and easy to put it. The bruising did last two weeks and looked quite bad but it didn’t hurt, just looked rather purple! There is a little bit of itching but for those of you who have had scars heal before, you will know this is just normal healing and as long as you don’t panic or read too much into it you will be fine! No periods, no hassle and absolutely no weight gain ( I have even lost weight, I do watch what I eat and ultimately you will only gain weight if you eat too many calories!). I hope this reassured some people. I’m sure it’s not for everyone but please know it is used by many people successfully too!"

For Birth Control "I’ve never written a review for any medication but I felt the need to warn other women about this birth control. I got my implant in Oct 2020 and Dec 15 I’m getting it removed. It’s been an absolutely nightmare. It doesn’t come with cramps but it’s sometimes extremely heavy and other times very light. At this point I have no idea when it’s coming as it literally comes every 2 or 3 days sometimes lasting for 2 weeks. The longest one was about 16 days which was extremely heavy. I have also been feeling depressed. I get panic attacks from the sun going down because my mood drastically declines when it gets dark. I have never experienced any of these symptoms and don’t have a history of any kind of mental health illnesses. I am afraid to be home alone due to the intrusive thoughts I’ve been having and everyone around me has noticed I haven’t been myself. Please take caution and research this method throughly before getting it implanted. Wish you all health and happiness."

For Birth Control "I got this in July. I started my regular period when I got it inserted and my period escalated to soaking through a pad every 10 minutes. I took birth control pills to fix this. I bled for 2 months straight like a normal period. Now I always am spotting, some days heavy flow. I usually always feel crampy now. I gained 10 pounds within two weeks of having this, all in my stomach. I always have migraines. I get more pimples and am ALWAYS tired. I randomly get sad and angry for no reason. Also my sex drive has been slowly but surely diminishing. I am keeping it only because it's keeping me baby free."

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon for about three years, and recently got it renewed. I've had a lot of sex, and not once did I ever get pregnant. I never gained weight while on this product, and I've eaten the same way. Really the only issue is I get anxious a lot more easily, and my period didn't completely stop, but everybody's body reacts differently. Personally, nexplanon is great for me, but it definitely isn't for everybody."

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon for 4 months. It has been effective in preventing pregnancy, and not having to take a pill is convenient. But that's where the pros end. A couple weeks after having it inserted, my mood swings were off the chart. I was snapping at everyone for the littlest things. I've never had a problem with depression in the 23 years I've been alive and have been depressed since I started this birth control. On top of that, my sex drive is GONE. I was crazy, head over heels in love with my husband up until I started this prescription. Now I can hardly stand to have him kiss me I'm so turned off. And it's not him, it's definitely the Nexplanon. Definitely getting it removed."

For Birth Control "After using the Nexplanon for almost a year (October 2019-September 2020) I can say that overall I did not have many side effect symptoms other than bleeding for weeks at a time. It was frustrating to wake up every morning and see that I was still bleeding. Not only that, but the time between my periods were only 2-3 weeks. I never had a normal period on the Nexplanon and my friend who also had the implant felt the same, she bled for a year straight while my cycle would be 24 days at the least. It was very irregular within those days as well, some days would be heavy some would be light, some days I would be bloated and have cramps, some I would have headaches and back pain. It was all very unpredictable. After having my period for 36 days straight twice in a row, I decided my frustration was unbearable. I had to take out my Nexplanon. Though it was a very effective form of birth control I could not take the periods any longer."

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon twice -- the first time was great, no issues. The second was fine until the last year of the implant's life -- I was spotting every single day for about 3-4 months. My mood spiralled into a very very dark place with intrusive thoughts quickly, and my breasts hurt constantly. I decided I was going to have the implant removed after consulting my doctor and friends, who were worried about my health. However, I was dealing with an eating disorder when the implant was inserted, and years later when it was removed, I was at a much healthier weight. They could not get it out on the first go because it had moved slightly and was under more tissue than when it was implanted. Finally, it was removed two weeks later, and I began to feel better one-two weeks after that. I think that the implant is a good option for some people, but beware that you body can change and just begin to react badly to it, especially when the implant is nearing the end of it's life."

For Birth Control "I just had this implant removed after having it in for only 3 days! The first day was not bad since I had it implanted around 6 pm. The rest of the days I had the worst anxiety. I cried for 2 days straight and even starts thinking I would be better of dead than take another second in so much anxiety and depression. Please if you already suffer from anxiety don’t get it!! It’s seems to affect some woman’s mental health than others. I didn’t want to take the risk and had it removed ASAP."

For Birth Control "DONT GET NEXPLANON. It has brought me nothing but misery. I’ve experienced tremendous weight gain, acne, depression and anxiety, back and breast pain, headaches, brain fog and fatigue. It’s been extremely hard trying to find a Planned Parenthood to remove the implant during the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ve been placed on a 2 week to 1 month waiting list and haven’t been contacted for almost 4 weeks now. I’ve also talked with a friend who has it too and she’s been having the same side effects. My friend also found in her research that nexplanon hasn’t been tested on plus size women. And I’ve also noticed when speaking with other users of this drug that each person’s implant expiration are a couple years off. Mine is supposed to last for 4 years, my friends’ for 7 and I’ve heard 5 or 6 for others and we all have the exact same implant. Not enough research, super crappy side effects, and too much negligence from providers. Just take the pill."

For Birth Control "Do NOT get it!!! I got the Nexplanon inserted a year ago, and I'm getting it removed next week. It has been the worst experience, both physically and especially mentally. I gained 10 pounds and am constantly bloated, and I am someone who is a very healthy eater and regularly exercises. My skin also plummeted, and I now have painful acne. I am also bleeding CONSTANTLY!! I'll go for 3 weeks bleeding and 1 week not bleeding. Finally, my mental health has completely spiraled!! I have constant mood swings and waves of anger that have been completely ruining what are supposed to be special moments. I have zero control over my emotions and reactions, as if my brain and body are separate! I'll be telling myself I'm angry and crying over nothing, but I physically cannot get out of the terrible mood I am now somehow in. I am not myself anymore, and you are not alone if you feel this way with Nexplanon. I cannot wait to get this mood-controlling parasite of an implant out!!"

For Birth Control "I have been on Nexplanon for about 7 months now. I thought I would be fine because both my sisters have had it for years. The first month I started having panic attacks, it was so bad that at work I would run to my boss crying because I needed to go home. I was so scared for uni to start. I ended up going to the doctors they didn’t understand why. I started uni in September and I was fine for the most part. It’s now March and I have been having anxiety pains in my chest, the back of my head, the left side of my body, and shots of pain in my elbow right under where the Nexplanon was implanted. I finally started to worry about it. I’ve dealt with it for to long and I’m at the point it is just not worth it. I don’t want this to control me anymore. Just remember everyone is different. I am now getting it out this week or next week. I do recommend it because it did help me a lot. But if you are getting anxiety symptoms, don’t let it get worse. You should get it out."

For Birth Control "It's very effective against pregnancy but the side effects have been horrible for me. I got it installed in June 2014 after having my baby. In August I noticed 2 patch's of my hair gone and severely thinned out in the front of my hair. I just thought this was due to postpartum hair loss which typically happens 3-4 months after you have a baby. However it is now January 27th 2015 and the hair loss has continued and now has spread to my entire front head around the edges. Also since I have had it, I have had no desire for sex. Nothing gets me aroused at all. My sex drive is nonexistent. I am going to get it removed soon because the side effects are unbearable. I am most upset by my hair loss."

For Birth Control "Wow! If only I had known about this site beforehand! I have Nexplanon in my arm, which is overdue to be taken out. I've had it for the full 3 years. It's the first time I've tried it. I previously used oral contraceptives. I have 2 children, 8 and 16, and have just turned 37. I have suffered from mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety, most of my life, on and off. Within a few days of having this implant, I turned into a different person. I felt lower than I had ever felt in my life and felt angry and frustrated all the time. It was horrendous. My family noticed the change in me, and I just felt extremely empty inside, and my only emotion was anger. I will never take this implant again. It has even put me off trying ANY IMPLANT for that matter. Be extremely cautious. I'm surprised nobody informed me of all the negative side effects regarding mental health, even a possibility, considering I had mental health issues in the first place."

For Birth Control "This birth control appealed to me because it's estrogen free, you don't need to remember a daily pill, and it lasts for a long amount of time. I had Nexplanon inserted on 3-13-14. I got my period the next day. Today marks 7 months of constant bleeding. Having said this, I'm sure it's highly effective birth control, but for me it was more so effective because it caused me to not have sex. The first couple weeks I was a little extra emotional, but that stopped quickly. I had no other side effects. I have friends who went on this and stopped having periods all together, so I'm sure my experience was exceptional."
