For Birth Control "I got the implant in July 2016, right as my husband and I were getting married. Since the day I got it put in, I have been on my period. Some days it is light spotting, other days it is super heavy, but there is always something. I also have no sex drive whatsoever, have been super emotional, and have become depressive at work, not caring enough to do what I need to do. I'm constantly tired and sleep on the couch more than I do anything else."

For Birth Control "I've been on Nexplanon for about 5 years now, I'm 20. Yes, I had this method of contraception at the age of 15. I can say I am still bittersweet with this birth control. My sex drive is almost non-existent, and my mood has hit an all-time low. I never experienced any weight issues, but the fact that it exaggerated my anxiety and depression, I never want to eat or get up and be a part of the world. I've never been pregnant, so I guess it does its job, however, when my body does send the message to me that I'm not pregnant (my period), I'm bleeding for 2 weeks, sometimes more. I used to have 4-day periods and would never experience cramps. Now I feel like my uterus is being pulled out of my vagina day in and day out, and that's before the bleeding."

For Birth Control "I got the implant over a year ago when I was 16. I'm now 18 and I am getting the implant out today early because the side effects it has given me are unbearable. At first, I felt completely normal apart from some swelling on my arm, however, about 6 months in, I started to get bad side effects. From then on, I have had an extremely low mood, anxious thoughts and panic attacks, anger issues, lower sex drive, dark thoughts, uncontrollable crying, back pain and body aching, fatigue, weight gain, my skin got worse, and overall I just feel depressed and I feel there is no way out of it. My brain also has got less rational and I feel like there is a fog over my brain, my thoughts seem irrational, and I can't manage to balance positive and negative thoughts. I didn't at first put these side effects down to my implant, but then when I started reading other people's reviews, especially people who say they have never felt like this before the implant. Please do not get the implant!!"

For Birth Control "Worst birth control I have ever had. For those of you looking for a simple method, please turn the other way. After getting the Nexplanon, my sex drive was little to none, and even when I was in the mood, I could never be 'fully there.' My emotional and mental health severely deteriorated, and it began affecting my job and my personal life. I nearly lost my relationship due to the fact that I could not control my emotions and my anger. I would never wish any of this upon anyone. I also spotted continuously throughout the 1st year, nearly every other week and sometimes every day (gross brown and stringy). I couldn't stand it anymore, and I finally managed to force my gynecologist to remove it - they will literally try to convince you not to remove it or tell you appointments are months out."

For Birth Control "I felt the need to share my story with other women looking for a birth control. Please do your research and read the reviews before getting on any birth control. Nexplanon has a lot of side effects. When you get on a birth control, you know that there will be some side effects, but if it affects your mental health, then you need to re-evaluate your options. I had it for two and a half years, and it was very effective as far as keeping me from being pregnant, but I only had my period once, that was when I first got it inserted. In addition, I was having a lot of migraines, weight gain, depression, mood swings, low sex drive, and nausea. I got it removed, and I must say that I am in such a better mood now. I still barely have a period, and it has been 3 months, but my physician said it takes about 6 months for your hormones to get back to normal after removal. I am so thankful that I don’t have it anymore because I am at peace with myself and my family."

For Birth Control "The first 3 months were fine, except for constant hunger, which comes with weight gain, obviously. Around the 3-month mark, I started to bleed, which didn’t worry me because they say that you can spot for a few months, however, I’ve been bleeding for 5 months, fluctuating from spotting to sometimes 5 ultra tampons a day. As soon as I think the bleeding is slowing, it comes back extremely heavy: cramps, headaches, depression, 12-pound weight gain, no sex drive at all, which has taken a toll on my relationship. I have no desire to have sex, and I mean at all! I will definitely be taking it out ASAP!"

For Birth Control "Had Nexplanon put in a month ago, been feeling very depressed and anxious. Easily irritated with my son. The fatigue makes me unable to care for my baby properly. I can't get up in the morning, having to leave him crying. I'm going to have to have it taken out. Plus, had weight gain in belly, and dryness and no sex drive."

For Birth Control "I have had Nexplanon now for (2) cycles or 6 years. When I was 22, I had it first put in and loved that I didn’t have to worry about taking a daily pill and it was just always there. My first implant was great, minimal periods, no acne, weight gain, or libido issues. I had a second one out 3 years later, and the experience has not been the same. I have noticed increased anxiety, exhaustion, decrease in libido, and very irregular periods. Contemplating a different method as I’m coming up on my 3-year removal date. But I can say that I have not gotten pregnant, so it’s done its job in that aspect!"

For Birth Control "Ugh, I wanted this to work so badly. First of all, the insertion process was painless, with minimal bruising. I had no worries that this thing was protecting me 100% without any hassle. Then the side effects started. For 2 to 3 months, I had some intermittent spotting, but no big deal! When I hit month 4, I was getting my period every 10 days (not spotting-full-blown period), with pretty harsh cramping. My sex drive decreased. I did notice some water retention as well, but I think what really got me was the breast tenderness. I could barely get a bra on in the morning, it was so painful! All these things combined just sort of sealed the deal for me. Removal was equally painless and quick. I guess I'm just one of the unfortunate group of gals here that had too many negative side effects. I genuinely think it's worth a try-I have plenty of friends that love it! My word of advice though-LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! And do NOT let the doctors bully you into keeping it."

For Birth Control "I had this implanted in March of 2017 after giving birth to my son. Since having the implant, I experienced extreme sweating and constantly feeling like my body was on fire. I was literally dripping sweat from head to toe with very little exertion. I would take a cold shower, and I would still be sweating in the shower! The only thing I could attribute this to was Nexplanon. Another side effect is having the sensation of pins and needles down my arm into my hand (still experiencing) and zero sex drive. I finally had my Nexplanon removed 2 weeks ago. Hopefully, those side effects will continue to diminish over time."

For Birth Control "As far as effectiveness, 10/10 SATISFIED. But other than that, I hate it. When I was 12, my stepmother had me get one when I started my period. Never once gained weight from it. This is my second one so far. I had it in total for about 6 years. The first one had stopped my periods, which I loved. I got it removed when I was 16 and had to get a new one in, it all went downhill from there. I have scar tissue, my arm is weak, non-stop bleeding, 3% sex drive lol, if that. I can cry over anything, which is totally not me. I hate this thing in my arm, and the thought of getting it removed again scares me. But I am going through with it. Wish me luck! Good luck to you out there. It is either a hit or miss."

For Birth Control "I have been on it for a month today. I have an appointment tomorrow to have it removed. I have been bleeding non-stop for 12 days, and today I passed 2 huge blood clots, and that's never happened to me before! Headaches, numbness, and pain in my legs, pain when urinating. My anxiety has gotten worse, my depression has returned. My acne has also gotten worse. I have awful nightmares and trouble sleeping. I get bad stomach aches. My sex drive is gone. I'm so angry about all of this, and I can't wait to have this implant out so I can start feeling better! I'm tired of being so tired and moody and fatigued. Do not get this implant. Not worth it at all!!!!!"

For Birth Control "I hate this birth control! I'm lucky enough to not have irregular bleeding or become pregnant, but I've gained 20 pounds, have mood swings, get headaches, no sex drive, and don't feel like myself!!! I'm getting it out soon, and I've only had it since the beginning of February."

For Birth Control "I chose to get Nexplanon to help with my terrible periods. My hormones have been off lately. I was getting hot flashes, and my cramps were unbearable. I thought that if my periods went away, it would be great, also not having to worry about getting pregnant. I've only been on Nexplanon for a little over two months. I've had nothing but issues from the start. The Nexplanon area was bruised and sore for weeks. Couldn't sleep on that side of my body, and if I used that arm, I would get a tingling pain feeling in it. My periods have lasted for three weeks each. It starts off light, then it's like a waterfall. I've gained weight, I'm moody, and extremely depressed. Little things set me off, and I've become super emotional. I've never been one to cry, but I can't count the times I have since I've been on this birth control. My sex drive is completely gone. I'm giving it a few more months, but I will most likely get it taken out. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon inserted 2 months after the delivery of my firstborn child. I figured it would be easier since I was obviously busy with a newborn and breastfeeding. I kept it in for 7 months before I realized enough was enough! I bled about 20 days of the month, had zero sex drive, increased depression, which I had originally associated with PPD (not the case), and it made sex super painful! Essentially turned me raw from the inside out. Didn't get pregnant though, so I guess it did its job! Easy insertion and removal process. Would NEVER recommend this."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon for a year and four months, it was highly effective contraception. However, the side effects were terrible. 1. Mood swings 2. Depression (I've suffered with depression before, and the drug just aggravated my depression more) 3. Headaches 4. Breast tenderness 5. Anxiety/panic attacks (which I've never had a problem with before until now) 6. Difficulty breathing (had a pulmonary test and a cardiologist look at my heart, and they said all was fine) 7. Chest pain/palpitations 8. Paranoia 9. HORRIBLE cramps (I've never had really bad cramps until I got the Nexplanon put in) 10. No periods for a couple of months, just spotting, no period but horrible cramps 11. Backache 12. Hungry all the time 13. No sex drive."

For Birth Control "As far as not getting pregnant, this thing works great! I've experienced some really annoying side effects too. First off, I have no rhyme or reason to my cycle, and when I have it, it's SOOO long. I've 'spotted' for 2 months straight before. Also, I have little to no sex drive. Guess that makes it easier not to get pregnant!"

For Birth Control "I got my implant in 2014 and removed in 2017. Decided not to do the entire 4 years because in the last two years I found myself extremely tired every single day, barely wanting to get out of bed except to eat. I also noticed my hair has thinned a lot (which I was in denial about at first), but when I researched more, I realized many other women had experienced this side effect, too. Additionally, I'm 23 years old and my sex drive has been non-existent for the past year. It's been almost two weeks off, and already, I feel a major difference. My energy is up again and my sex drive as well. Hopefully, my hair grows back thick, the way it used to be! Overall, this medicine isn't that bad if you can deal with the side effects."

For Birth Control "I got this implant on Nov 14 after previously having Implanon twice with no problems. I have started waking up stupidly early (no matter what time I go to bed) with terrible feelings of anxiety (despite never suffering this ever before) and am very tearful and have mood swings. For the past 12 weeks or so, I have experienced 'spotting' of brown, red, or pink nature, but only light enough to be seen when I wipe. This is more or less every day. My sex drive has also gone COMPLETELY. I am going to visit my doctor tomorrow to have the implant removed, as reading everyone else's comments today, I believe my current problems are down to this. I would not recommend."

For Birth Control "After exactly one year of having the Nexplanon implant, I finally had it removed today. This is the first and last form of birth control I will ever be on. My experience wasn't great, and I wouldn't recommend this birth control. My sex drive plummeted, I had 2-3 periods every month, I always feel tired/foggy, and I've never had a huge problem with anxiety or depression, however, about 6 months after having the implant, my mood swings were horrible, and with the combo of no sex drive and my psychotic rampages, my relationship with my husband started to go in a downward spiral. I gave the birth control a year because that is what my doctor recommended in order for it to completely regulate. At least it did what it was supposed to. I didn't get pregnant."

For Birth Control "I wanted to post because I was so afraid of the negative reviews I read before getting Nexplanon. With that being said, I highly recommend this product. The last time I posted, I stated that I was bleeding for about 9 days. The light spotting lasted for about 3 weeks. Then nothing for 3 weeks, and it started again for about 2 weeks. Since then (2 months), I have not had any spotting. Besides the trials in the beginning, I am very pleased with this product. No mood swings, no acne, no low sex drive, and no periods!"

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon in for 4ish months. I have PMDD, and I can't be on estrogen due to chronic migraines. I love it, it helps my PMDD symptoms. After the first month, I did get my period, then I had spotting for a month or two off and on. I think it is finally starting to slow down. I have noticed a small decrease in sex drive, and I'm a little more dry, which isn't too big of a deal, a little more sensitive. But also, not long after I became sexually active, I got it right in, so it's not like I have much to compare to. I have seen an increase in headaches, but that can be due to so many reasons for me: stress, wisdom teeth (have to get those out). But overall, I really like it. I was bad at remembering to take my pills before, it's long-lasting, highly effective, it's so easy. I'm coming from a place of very bad heavy periods, including the PMDD, it was like I was bipolar, I would get suicidal. This is so much better, it's helped the PMDD, and I'm not bleeding through everything. I feel like I can live my life."

For Birth Control "The only positive of Nexplanon is that you don't have to worry about it for 3 years. But the negatives definitely outweigh the positive. I bled for 2 and a half months straight when I started it, and now I constantly am wearing a liner because of random spotting and periods. Periods last more than 2 weeks, which led to other issues such as yeast infections, etc. Sex drive is at an all-time low, and I get mood swings. I also get hot flashes from it. I really don't recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon implant inserted in November of 2012, and had it recently taken out and a new one put back in. I have nothing but great things to say about it! I haven't gained weight, lost sex drive, or had a drastic change in moods/emotions. I can certainly say it affects everyone differently, just like every other birth control, but it's definitely worth a shot!"
